I own a Boxters Spyder. Last week I raced a 911GTS on a track. I kept up with the 911 the whole race. I was faster on corners but he was faster on straights. He was really mad cause he thought he was going to beat me easily. So much for a chics car huh?
I drive the Boxster Spyder, it's the best car ever I have driven in. Period. It's a mid-engine drivers car. PDK woth sportschrono, is even faster than the manual (maybe a little bit less fun, but shifting dubble clutch is very fast. Spyders are not mega-power plants, but O my, they are so much fun to drive. It's a thrill!
@sammyhtb They are both factory Porsches, but are currently not in production; this is why they are no longer on the website. They will likely both be re-released in the new 991 chassis in a couple years time.
The R8 anyday if I want a purer sport car, I won't go with a spyder like the boxer it would be a Caymen R or if we want to be more objectif at the price of the Audi R8 Spyder it would be the GT3/ GT3 RS
@adamkawwaff Yes the Boxster actually a better driver's car, as it got one of the best steering and brakes in the industry from Porsche. Despite the R8's sweet and fine handling, people buys R8 because of it's looks. If they want a proper car for driving enjoyment and involvement, they'd got the Boxster.
I did some research and the R8 was designed for the everyday driver supercar. Look up more on it you will see the whole design was for a comfortable supercar you can drive everyday all day.
Bender unit gets it.. I have a Boxster spyder.. It's an awesome car.. Not a "chicks" car.. It's much harder to drive than my Gtr or evo was.. But more rewarding.. Still.. I'd give it up for a v10 manual R8 coupe :)
Wow, track layout and conditions plus the addition of a passenger I figured would favor the Audi. I do like those Boxster Spyder's but it's hard to justify getting one second-hand with the new Boxster on the horizon.
Well, I own a Boxster Spyder now for two months. It is an amazing car, astonishing good. The open roadster combined with the engine - induction - noice, the 6 pack and screeming sportexhaust is absolutly a class of its own. I drive the PDK (which is faster than the manual) and Sportschrono+. As you might know the Boxster Spyder is faster on this EVO track than the Cayman R. That says enough how good this Boxster is.

I think this comparison had much more potential and was fun - but it was killed by the non-fun presenters. Chris Harris would have made it to a killer vid.
How? The Boxster Spyder isn't a super lightweight, it weighs 80kg less than the Boxster S (Spyder = 2811 lbs). Sure it's more focused than the R8 but the R8 has more power and larger tires along with 4wd, you'd think it has the advantage. It's a fair test and you cant just dismiss the results because they're different cars, that's the point of comparison tests! And with my previous comment, the GT2 is also a dedicated track car so since you want an apples to apples comparison, thats it!
If he drove the R8 as hard as he did with the Boxter then the results would ha e been different. We didn't hear the tires once when he was in the R8. In the Boxter, he drove it as if he stole it. R8 all around better car. R8 is also considered a super car with their 540hp V10 from Lamborghini.

The gate shifter is so nice! Only thing is if the guy had of drove both cars just as hard there would have been a very different outcome. I own an R8 and i eat Porsches. Except 911 will get me everytime. But I also have to 4.2 V8 420hp. The V10 Audi R8 uses comes from a Lamborghini Gallardo pushing almost 550hp.
+Prius It does matter, cause the smaller 6cyl engine in the Boxster has more trouble handling extra weight than a v8, since another person means a higher percentage of torque/weight ratio in the small car
+Oscar Arzaluz yeah, because the R8 is not way heavier than the Boxter in any condition nor does it have to carry and deal with a power robbing 4WD system *facepalm*.

If they he would have drove it faster then his grandfather the V8 would have smoked the Boxter. I have a V8 R8 and my wife has a Porsche Caymen S. Mine beats hers on the track or heads up drag race. Need more consistent driver for true results! The V10 540hp R8 is bad to the bone! I have drove one once and you can definitely tell that V10 if from Lamborghini. It has the same exact tone as my buddies Gallardo.
The boxster spyder doesn't have an automatic roof, or door pulls for that matter, AC is an option as well... Saying that it is "more focused" is a complete understatement. It's not a fair test because one car is designed to be a luxury daily driver that has some supercar qualities, the other a track toy. You wouldn't compare this car and an RS5, because like the R8 their completely different. Ya I agree, GT2 vs V10 GT is a totally fair fight, agreed.
How is that apples to apples? The R8 GT is well over 500hp! If you want to go that far we can compare the GT2 against your R8 GT and then see what happens..

100% agreed!! I have the 4.2L R8 and my wife had a Porsche Caymen S and i stomp her on the road course and heads up drag race every time. People don't realize R8 is actually considered a supercar. Just a very affordable one. V8 pushing 430hp to the wheels and doesn't weigh anything! You can get the V10 with 540hp. Same engine the Lamborghini Gallardo has in it. Some people are so stupid when it comes to cars. And when anyone says something they become an animal. I'm glad not to be the only one who feels that way. You can pick a nice used R8 up online for anywhere between 50 and 70k.
I just rented one of these porsche boxster spyders. IMO it beats anything I ever drove including the Gallardo. Its just an amzing car that can run with supercars for a fraction of the price. Granted the top sucks but you dont buy a boxster spyder for its easy to install top.

@@grandbaycrawford9982 Regardless of what you think was faster, did you not pick up on the fact that both of them were having so much fun driving the white one, whilst the Audi didn't generate any emotion whatsoever. Audi are not exactly known for making drivers cars and I can say with confidence, as I now actually own the Spyder in this video (RF10 KKP), that it really is a barrel of laughs and such a rewarding car to drive.

@vix121 I imagine a tesla roadster sport could match or beat them and a wrightspeed x1 would beat them a lot on that track. and that's nothing compared to what's possible with electric drive. both have 30-40kg motors. they could easily have twice the acceleration

Dedicated track car vs. dedicated track car, this comparison is effectively an ariel atom vs. normal supercar, you should compare two completely different cars, used for completely different purposes, that's the point I'm making...
R8 sounds better, Boxster is faster around a track. R8 better interior, Boxster hasn't got door handles. Tough choice, to tell you the truth i prefer a 911s to both of these cars.

I for one am not surprised in the least, ooooh a AWD car w/ aircon, power folding roof and EVERYDAY usability is slower on a tight course than a track spec stripped out completely impractical car that doesn't even have an electric roof. If you wanted to do apples to apples than have a V10 GT vs this, they're the exact same type of car, except again the audi has actual practicality...

My stock 420hp V8 Audi R8 will beat my wife's stock Porsche Caymen S when we put them on the road course or drag strip. She has yet to win. Yes Audi is more expensive. They are considered a supercar. Porsche is a soccer mom, teenage boy or Dr going back and forth to work type of car. Just facts buddy no offense intended.

Put a 3.8 911S motor in and you got a 981 Spyder. Which is in my garage.

I currently have a Lotus Elise with the Sport Pack but I still want the Boxster Spyder.

The Boxster Spyder is so damn beautiful. If I owned one I would probably put a couch in the garage and sleep there and stare at it all the time.

Audi makes their 4.2 v8 420hp also a v10. The v10 comes from a Lamborghini Gallardo 540hp. Look it up if you don't believe me.
