    • @heavyarms55

@@It_is_what_it_is00 It's true that Tsavong Lah didn't want to attack Ebaq 9 because it was Nom Anor's idea. But that's the only reason he didn't want to do it. Fact is, everything Ackbar planned out would have worked overall regardless. Corellia, which is where Lah wanted to attach, would have worked as well. Centerpoint would have trapped Lah's fleet there, and the New Republic would have been able to crush it.
The Republic had planned for a major operation, they had been training and readying their military for months. Lah's forces had become bogged down in pacification duties and patrolling conquered worlds. If Lah attacked someone other than one of the major shipyards, the New Republic would have scatters and launched counter attacks on a dozen other locations to force Lah to back off or capture one system at the expense of losing several.
Once Cal Omas was elected, the new High Council formed, Ackbar back, and the military and the Jedi started co-operating, it was only a matter of time. The Vong couldn't innovate, they were not flexible and they were literally running out of bodies to throw at the New Republic. They were becoming more and more reliant on slave soldiers and mercenaries. But the New Republic had new recruits, new ships and new allies joining the fight all the time.

He has that same Imperial overconfidence and that was his undoing. • @razgriz9146
      @razgriz9146 ปีที่แล้ว

That's disingenuous. While Borsk Fey'lya was indeed a massive buffoon that most certainly contributed to the New Republic's total collapse, the reality of the situation was that he was little more than a powerless figurehead for a completely ineffective government.
The REAL power in the New Republic was the New Republic Senate, which was an entirely corrupt, hopelessly divided and hilariously incompetent mess that effectively paralyzed the New Republic war effort with indecision, cowardice, dereliction of duty and pure self-interest.
Then you take into consideration that the New Republic was actually just a confederacy of independent star systems that more-or-less managed/governed/defended (from minor threats, mind you) themselves all while the New Republic itself merely provided blanket protection from major threats and political advice/guidance in terms of "galactic governance" (meaning that it was completely powerless and entirely impotent).
A fact that forced the New Republic Defense Fleet to remain deliberately tiny and relatively weak due to fears that it might be used as a tool of tyrannical oppression against the de-facto independent star systems that comprised the New Republic all on top of being forced to rely upon said de-facto independent star systems to provide their own planetary defense fleets for the collective defense of the New Republic in the event of an existential crisis.
All of which wound up biting the New Republic in the ass once it became crystal clear that the New Republic Defense Fleet was far too small to provide blanket protection for its territory (which it had to do out of political necessity) and that its individual members straight-up refused to do anything outside of protecting themselves (which naturally made it that much easier for the Yuuzhan Vong to divide and conquer), at that.
Then you have the New Jedi Order constantly bitching and moaning about morally questionable options (most prominently Alpha-Red) that could've effortlessly destroyed the Yuuzhan Vong with entirely negligible loss of life and collateral damage on the part of the New Republic in addition to New Republic generals and field commanders also bellyaching over morally-questionable orders (i.e firing upon refugee convoys that are obviously being used as human shields by the Yuuzhan Vong and are as good-as-dead, anyways) even when said orders would save far more lives than they could ever hope to take, as well.
The overall truth of the matter is that the New Republic as a whole quite simply wasn't built to withstand, nevermind survive, an actual crisis. Blaming any one individual (even the likes of Borsk Fey'lya) for its overall total failure as a nation couldn't possibly cloud that particular fact.

@@ulfricstormcloak6675 Sherman had morals.Think about it like this. The longer the war drags on, the more boys on both sides are going to die. The more innocents caught in the crossfire and the more cities destroyed. The fastest way may result in more deaths and destruction in a given period of time compared to if it isn't implemented, but it will reduce the overall casualties of an extended conflict.
To use a simile think of a business. It's bleeding $500 a day. To close the business entirely, it would cost $35000.
If the business loses that $500 on average, they can go up to 70 days without losing more than if they'd closed (and in economic sense, would have a chance to turn things around) But if the losses continue beyond those 70 days, they would have lost even more money than if they'd just closed and will still have to make that decision of closing or trying to drag out the losses until there's no money left.
Now think of that as people. Assume 500 soldiers on each side is dying a day. Sherman can end the war by killing 35k in a single day, which seems horrific compared to the relatively small comparative number of 500, but if he doesn't end the war, it will stretch on indefinitely, either until one side is completely wiped out, (Way more than relative 35k) or a compromise is forced and Slavery continues as part of the deal, as the south would have demanded as they were founded on " the great truth of the inferiority of the negro"

The Yuuzhan Vong War and the NJO is not only one of my absolute favorite parts of Star Wars, but one of my favorite parts of sci-fi in general. I think they were an excellent foil of the Star Wars Galaxy. They were the reverse of everything the Star Wars Galaxy stood for. Ruthless, religious, fanatical, uniform, etc. They put Galaxy into the greatest crisis itself.
A big part of the problem with your strategies in this video is that you make them with 20/20 hindsight. The New Republic didn't and couldn't have known about their resource issues, religious ideology, etc. Many of the things you propose, you suggest with all the knowledge that was collected throughout the course of the books. In Destiny's Way Admiral Ackbar points out how we knew almost nothing about the Vong at the start of the war and blames much of the NR's poor response on the total failure of the intelligence community - something the leaders of those organizations don't even TRY to deny.
I largely agree with your points about the weak response of the New Republic at the start and the unwillingness to respond with overwhelming force - but you do have to consider that large parts of the New Republic fleet was still bogged down on policing duty fixing regional issues, like the Caamas document crisis only a couple years prior.
I totally agree with your points about bringing battle droid armies online from the old CIS. But we both know that because of when these books were written, it was not really known what had happened to those droid armies. I believe we had only seen the Phantom Menace at that point. Maybe Attack of the Clones.
Another serious problem with your bioweapon that you do not address that is addressed in the books is blowback. Bioweapons, especially viruses are created by breeding the virus and releasing it into the wide. Viruses MUTATE. And viruses and bacteria etc reproduces TRILLIONS UPON TRILLIONS of times. There is no way you can promise the disease would not mutate and spread to the people of the Galaxy and leave it sterile in the end. Even the non-Jedi members of the High Council largely disagreed with the use of Alpha Red.
On a final note, I do totally agree that Borsk Fey'lya's leadership was a mess but it was a mess that wasn't entirely his fault. Leia Organa and many Rebellion era leaders basically LET it get that way. They all resigned, retired or quit by this point. As a result, the few solid leaders left in the New Republic government were left without allies. People like Treibark, Cal Omas, Elegos A'kla were left without a strong power base.
I don't mean to sound scathing. I think you make great videos and this was an interesting watch. I just don't quite agree with some of what you're saying here.
Thanks for the uploads! I can't wait for more of your Thrawn's Revenge and Awakening of the Rebellion videos on your other channel!

You are absolutely right about Alpha Red. The virus DID mutate, in fact. It was released on the world of Caluula and it adapted to each individual Vong's unique genetics, despite Chiss assurances that it would not, and began attacking other lifeforms on the world where it was deployed. Sentient and nonsentient lifeforms that were not Vong were being killed off. In the end, it was determined that Alpha Red worked TOO well, and the entire world had to be quarantined. I mean seriously, by that point, you might as well raze the whole damn planet with an orbital bombardment.
And it was not just the Jedi who protested against the use of this bioweapon. Wedge Antilles said, "Genocide is what the Emperor did. It's what the Yuuzhan Vong do. It shouldn't be what we do. If it is, I'm fighting for the wrong cause." The tactics that Eck proposed are Imperial tactics. It's hard to believe that the white-hat Good Guys who had been fighting for freedom and democracy to be brought back to the galaxy should and would turn around and destroy *their own worlds* from orbit. They wanted and needed to believe that the Vong could be dealt with, talked to, that a peace could be negotiated...and unfortunately the Vong took advantage of that belief by telling them that if the Jedi gave themselves up, the rest of the worlds would be spared.
And of course, the biggest problem was that Borsk Fey'lya was the president at the time of the invasion, and he was all about protecting his own interests instead of looking after the interests of the people. But of course, that is exactly why he was put in charge; the writers had to have an incompetent leader running things in order for this invasion to be successful. Any competent leader would have acte far sooner.

They didn't have to, actually. Some people had raised the objection that viruses, once released into an uncontrolled environment like a living world, can and often do mutate, and that is exactly what happened. The virus mutated on its own and began killing non-Vong lifeforms as well. And the way it killed the Vong tech and warriors was rather gruesome in that the warriors would continue to bleed from their mouths and eyes long after they were dead, and they eventually liquefied. (I don't remember if total liquefication happened to the non Vong lifeforms).

The Old Republic was able to act with military might once they recognized the threat the CIS posed. The Old Republic would have taken too long to fight the CIS if it wasn't for Darth Sidius requisitioning more ships and the clones behind the Senate's back.
It took the New Republic longer to react to the Vong. There was peace, so it took longer for the New Republic to reposition its fleets.
Since the Vong were a new faction, it took much longer to come up with counters to their tech than it took the Old Republic to counter CIS.
Yet the New Republic saw atrocities the Empire did and refused to emulate them. This would have removed three strategies Eck proposed. No Destroying Planets/Systems, no Making Planets inhabitable, no use of biological/chemical warfare.
Making a Droid Army costs money... not to mention supplies. This would require the New Republic to redesign factories. This takes time.

Heck, they were even awarded a special commendation by the Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance, Cal Omas, something noted to be an exceptionally rare honor for droids. If nothing else, the use of the Orange Panthacs shows that ex-CIS droid forces were at least somewhat used, just obviously not to the level they should have been. The combination of bio weapons and droid armies work amazingly well. Drop defoliators on them using hyena bombers. Bog them down in upgraded B1’s or B2’s and drop defoliators on top of them. No friendly fire and utter devastation to vong infantry and vehicles.
In addition, the vong will never use ion weaponry against the droids, their amphistaff weapons venom is useless, and we cannot forget that the droids have absolutely no fear. I believe this is the determining factor in the victory of the B2’s over the yuuzhan vong at the battle of mantessa. The vong met an enemy who no amount of psychological warfare or biological warfare would work against. The B2’s were the only thing colder, more emotionless, more genocidal, and more suicidal than the vong. They might be cut in half and have less armor but the B2’s are extremely strong and, barring plot weaponry, extremely resilient. Lost limbs or a torso may not stop a B2 meaning the vong will never quite be sure, is it really dead.
It’s like police dogs, some A-hole will take hostages, shoot at police, and resist for hours if its a person. But once a dog is loose it’s a different story. They know that the dog doesn’t care about the hostages, the gun, the law, nothing matters to that dog other than clamping it’s jaws on the fugitive and bringing him down. That’s what the vong faced at mantessa, but a horde of them, that only want to kill, with guns, and wrist rockets. Gotta watch those wrist rockets...

The battle droid thing especially makes a lot of sense. I guess the real world answer is that Ep I was just coming out when Vector Prime was released, and they didn't get those two together. Also, they wanted to show the Star Wars galaxy on the ropes, so an easy fix wouldn't have worked

Paused @ 2:54 Yup.. Why the YZV feared the Empire because the Imperial Military won't be scared to use tactics and maneuvers that the New Republic deemed "harsh" but effective against the YZV. That principle of asset denial, like scorched earth, tactics, for example, would make them scalp for supplies outside their galaxy and make the invasion x10 more difficult than it should have been.

    • @michaelramon2411
      @michaelramon2411 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hmm... You would think so, but it really depends on how the Vong's resistance to the Force and Force powers works. If Abeloth was able to get into their heads and spread among them, or control some of them, or even go all-in with her massive telekinesis, she could take them easily, but if they could resist most of that, Abeloth wouldn't have many other options except to mind-control another faction to fight them for her.

The battle droid angle is pretty spot on. Using an army of literally war machines against a society of technophobes is probably the most effective form of conventional AND psychological warfare they could have used

Here a possibility for episode 9 that'll obviously not be implemented. In TLJ, the Supremacy is hyperspace rammed by the Raddus's into two halves. Despite the immense damage caused, it was suggested that the Supremacy was still somewhat functional. And now that Palpatine is confirmed to be in the new movie it might mean that the eclipse ship is canonized. What if Palpitatine seizes control of the first order, seeing them as utterly incompetent and then merges the Supremacy and the Eclipse together into a single mighty ship with absurd capabilities. The two halves of the Supremacy would be smoothened and managed until they are of equal mass and then they sandwich the Eclipse between the two halves. It now has interdiction capabilities and a devastating superlaser combined with the 'long' range super heavy turbolasers, immense manufacturing capabilities and firepower of the Supremacy. You get to choose the name of my theoretical ship. Like I said do not expect this from the new movie at all. I'm just giving you an interesting possiblity.

Imagine if somehow (maybe due to surviving Imperial Sith Acolytes or something) Belia Darzu's technovirus was deployed against the Yuuzhan Vong. Through the Force it might be possible to direct the nanovirus to only infect the Yuuzhan Vong instead of other species, and the result would be akin to Eck's Entechment plan: their worst nighmare delivered upon them. The Jedi would never allow it, but if they didn't have a say, it might have been possible.

Yeah, ngl, I like the NJO books a lot, but they have the same problem as most science fiction does at completely misunderstanding the democracy vs. dictatorship issue and what it means in terms of defense. This whole idea that „democracies“ (really just societies with some form of formal collective decision making) are complacent and weak whereas dictatorships are well-organized, efficient and powerful, is really just a trope.
History usually shows the opposite, and it is always more complex. All other things being equal, formal republics have a much better chance of mobilizing their whole population in the face of external threats, including disgruntled elements. Whereas autocracies, especially after a few decades, are often so top-heavy and corrupt that their military just falls apart, and while the population may respond earnestly to the external threat, with even the low-level military leadership thoroughly corrupted, they can never form a cohesive force.
Excellent examples for this are France during the Franco-Prussian war (contrary to modern perception, Napoleon III was expected to win this war easily at the time) or the Russian Empire in WWI. Whereas for example both the Young USA and the French Revolutionary Government were able to defend themselves very effectively against powerful outside forces.
I think it says something profound about our society that the leading school of thought* within that society fundamentally believes collective government to be bad, even though evidence tends to be to the contrary. Or maybe they‘d just rather be running a dictatorship.
*btw, I‘m not saying that the writers of Star Wars hate democracy or are responsible for any of this, but that the people who have the most influence on collective consciousness, say by writing newspaper, movies or schoolbooks seem to be so reactionary that almost everyone becomes infected with those ideas.

Can you do the Gray Paladins from coruscant nights? They're a Jedi faction that used blasters and other weapons one was so good that she was able to send one of her own bolts straight up an enemy's blaster barrel. They also believed in using the force as little as possible so they focused on other skills like martial arts and military tactics like guerrilla warfare, urban tactics, espionage, and infiltration.
