      But I think it b was brilliant you have something that isn't part of the cosmic force because they are outside your cosmos a different dimension it would make more sense than outside space that's only issue i had and once you introduce multiple dimension things can get cheesy in forget the explanation why they where not seen in force

    I like the Vong because they were a new and interesting threat. Before that it was mostly just Imperial Remnant vs New Republic over and over again and that got stale after a while. That's why I was disappointed by the Sequel Trilogy because they basically did the same things.

      The Sequel Trilogy was far worse than even that. The ST didn't have a Jedi order and blew countless opportunities. It didn't have any unique imperial units. It had a horrid and pointless plot. Their enemies were 1 dimensional and it blew the chance of having a new group of dark Jedi to fight the hedi order (like hundreds of Jedi vs hundreds of sith, it would still be smaller scale than Old Republic battles with thousands of each).
      The ST was basically a crappy version of the Old Empire vs Rebels.

    I like the Yuuzhan Vong for a few reasons. They actually make Star “Wars” live up to its name. They are one of the very few arcs that bring the Imperials and New Republic to work together. There is a a heavy focus on Space combat which I absolutely love, especially with the focus on obscenely large ships. And they show more of the Chiss and what they are all about. The Vong are a good, new and fresh twist to Star Wars.

      This is how I would make the Vong in canon.
      1. They have superior durability to humans
      2. They have thicker armor than New Republic troops (they can take 1-5 shots before going down in the body, but 1 headshot will take them out; they can tank indirect strikes but direct ones stop them)
      3. They have superior strength
      4. They have superior stamina to humans
      5. They use melee blades that can either fire energy laser beams or fire yellow energy bolts (range of 900 meters But, without zoom)
      6. Vong warriors can see twice as far as humans
      7. They have elite troops with wings attached to their armor plus their blades that can fire powerful energy blasts
      8. The Vong could have deadly hounds with a speed of 60 mph plus sharp claws and teeth
      9. Vong have organic vehicles with powerful yellow blasts
      10. Have Vong warriors with Black armor, another variant with brown armor, leaders with red armor plus flame grenades and a fire blast ability, leaders with blue armor and a power electric blast ability, a Vong leader with silver armor plus the ability to turn invisible, and a Vong leader gold armor plus the ability to blind enemies with flares plus stun abilities. In addition to This, remakes of classic Vong leaders like the huge Vong warrior that is 8 feet tall and weights 350 pounds.
      11. Vong can be effected by the force But, aren't force sensitive
      12. Give the Vong powerful weapons that can vaporize enemies
      13. Still allow the Vong to terraform worlds
      14. Still allow Vong to destroy worlds
      15. Make the Vong as glory seekers, people who love battle, they still should be pain lovers, and instead of self mutilation they just brag about their battle scars from all the foes they defeated
      16. The Vong train from young ages since they are children to be warriors

      Fascinating concepts, my friend. Brilliant.
      I wonder if the Yuuzhan Vong will reappear in some iteration in the New "High Republic" series of story arcs.
      Reading up on the synopsis literature...
      "A Dangerous NEW threat to the Galaxy and to the Force itself [...]"
      "[...] Hyperspace anomalies and bizarre objects emerging from 'Deep Space threaten the [Old] Republic at the height of its expansion in the 'Outer Rim' [("Several centuries before the Battle of Yavin")] [...]"
      I doubt this.
      Not likely. It would be fascinating if this is the general concept though...
      The Yuuzan Vong now being relegated & introduced to the Deep past of the Star Wars historical Chronology, rather than having them become a threat immediately after the ratification of the Galactic Concordance, (as we see in the Legends EU). 👍

      You mean the EU wherein
      Luke goes what amounts to "Force Super Saiyan"
      Luke sleeps with a technically dead woman and then falls for her again when her spirit possesses his hot student
      Luke eventually reaches ludicrous levels of power that even Rey would pale at
      And that killed off characters with almost as much vitriol as the Disney Canon? That EU is what you consider canon?
      Look, I think that Disney SW is good
      I like bits and pieces of the EU canon such as the Vong and Aboleth.
      But in comparison, the EU comes off *way* more as Fanfiction than the DC does, and it does it way more often.
      I think the current sequels are fine, in fact they might even be good. And I think they can only get better if we continue to include the good parts of the EU and drop off the bad parts.

    When it comes to the Yuuzhan Vong being disconnected to the force, you can look at it in the way that the Force broke itself off from them because of their mass destruction in their own galaxy. If the Force has a Will then it is plausible it would purposefully make the decision to separate itself from them.

    I liked the Vong. They were like the Cenobites meet the Borg but in the Star Wars galaxy. I always liked the whole "Enemy Mine" situation of The Truce At Bakura with the Empire and Rebellion temporarily joining forces, and that was taken up to 11 in the New Jedi Order.

  • @colebuckon3856
    @colebuckon3856 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I liked the Yuuzhan Vong and the whole New Jedi Order series; my first real exposure to the Expanded Universe, after reading the Essential Guides of the late 90s and early 2000s, was the New Jedi Order (particularly for the back half). That said, I find it unlikely that they will ever get more attention than perhaps a TV story arc (perhaps in John Favreau’s live action show). They are way to dark for children and way too simplistic from a moral standpoint (unless we had a main character who was a Vong Force adept of some sort). I think Disney would take a hatchet to their entire identity rather than invest in a film based upon the Legends incarnations.
    However, if there WAS some sort of major time skip, I think it would be possible for them to do a film or films in the aftermath of a Vong invasion (perhaps leading to something like Legacy of the Force). That way the focus would not have to be upon the Vong directly.

    • @billclark5055
      @billclark5055 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Justin Last They can still hate their enemies. They can still love battle. They can love pain and have a lot of battle scars. Plus they could have trained to fight from birth and have deadly melee weapons. Plus heavy armor and cool new organic weapons that can hurt their enemies. Plus have energy bolts thst they can fire and have air troopers that fly with organic wings attached to their armor.
      They could still use whips in battle and they could just be added to some alternate universe video game. I would make it where they can still can be effected by the force But, can't use it and have no medicholrians in them. But the medicholrians around them can still detect them and interact with them. Vong will typically be 7 feet tall and also have sharp claws. Vong also would be great climbers and have superior stamina and durability to humans.
      They still have organic cruisers that fire energy blasts. There are Vong officers with dark red armor plus organic incarceration blast ability, dark blue armor plus electric blast abilities, silver armor plus active camo, and gold armor plus stun ability and flare. There could also be Vong warriors with light blue armor and grenades that freeze enemies on impact and carbon blasts. Stand Vong have green poison grenades and sometimes they may use a green regeneration ability.

    • @nunouno001
      @nunouno001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Then they would have won without any difficulty. The main reasons they lost (besides the good guys having the writers on their side) was because of Luke's new Jedi Order and the because the entire galaxy consisting of dozens of factions all unified together to oppose them. After Endor, Luke was pretty much the only force user and he was nowhere near the apex of his strength and wouldn't have stood a chance against the Vong. The rebellion was still a small splinter group and the empire was broken into dozens of warring factions that were bigger threats to each other; not even Thrawn or a reborn Palatine could unify them. The only way the star wars galaxy could have survived is if all factions immediately pledged loyalty to Thrawn and did everything he wanted and even that would still be a longshot.

    • @nunouno001
      @nunouno001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is an interesting story, but it just wouldn't have worked. By the time the Vong showed up the rebellion became the new republic and built up a massive military. Right after Endor the rebellion only had 1 fleet of ships that with largely outdated ships.
      The empire would have to have done all of the work. While they likely would have unified against a single threat, their moral would have been pitiful and they would have no super weapons at this time. One World Ship is capable of destroying entire fleets.
      And lastly Luke is the only force user and he is nowhere powerful enough to fight them in any way that would actually matter. Even if he found every other surviving force user at the time, he would at most a 100 people who would get slaughtered immediately without any training or experience. They were able to invade the entire galaxy and kill 300 trillion beings in like 2 years, the reapers from Mass Effect would ask these guys for tips.
      This is one of the reasons why I don't like the Vong. They're just so absurdly overpowered to the point of being FanFiction and seeing them lose just felt really lazy and dumb.

    the Vong to Star Wars were the Borg to Star Trek. They were a great story arc that showed that the fans were bored of Imperial/Rebel conflict that should had ended after ROTJ.
    Disney should had made the Sequels about the Vong War. It would have been spectacular.

  • @Masterge77
    @Masterge77 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Should the Yuuzhan Vong ever be canon again? Honestly, I don't think they should, and even if they were, they would have to be heavily altered and nerfed. The thing about the Vong was that they were an interesting concept, and a great way to change things up from the usual "Jedi vs. Sith" and "Rebels vs. Empire" formula fans were used to, but the problem was that the idea was poorly executed due to there being too many writers on board who had different ideas on how the Vong should be.
    This resulted in them being extremely overpowered and ridiculously over-the-top that they couldn't be LESS a part of the Star Wars universe, and would likely fit in more with something like Halo or Mass Effect or any other space-faring sci-fi franchise (not Star Trek though, since they already have the heavily underutilized Species 8472, which share a number of traits with the Yuuzhan Vong). So I could see why they wouldn't want to bring the Vong back, but only time will tell for sure.

      @flamesofchaos13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So then Disney should hire just ONE great writer and were good to go!
      Truth be told I believe they should bring as much of the EU as they can back into Canon...With the things that don't make sense simply being heavily modified rather then thrown out.
      But you're right from what I've seen of Mass Effect, Halo, Star Trek and Star Wars the Yuuzhan Vong as is definitely fit into Halo Lore more then anything else. They don't fit into Mass Effect in my opinion, I'm a Mass Effect Fan so in my opinion as one they don't fit because usually most if not all of the Humanoid Alien Species AREN'T Evil for no reason and because Mass Effect already has the Reapers to take the place of an Advanced Alien to Aliens Society of Galactic-Scale Genocides.

    • @Masterge77
      @Masterge77 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well... they can kind of fit into the Halo universe, but not by much since The Covenant and The Flood fill in that role, and both have some aspects of the Vong in them to some extent. The Yuuzhan Vong were a race of hostile aliens that destroyed planets, used organic technology and was pretty much a death cult.
      To compare the Vong to what was in Halo, The Covenant was an intergalactic religious order that occasionally destroyed a planet every once in a while, but they weren't a death cult, especially since they were completely unaware that the Halo Array was a galaxy destroying superweapon that would have destroyed them, instead thinking the Halo Array would make them transcend to a higher existence. As for The Flood, they were basically like an organic version of The Borg, but FAR worse and infinitely more destructive, with it being implied that they've wiped out entire galaxies.
      It's implied that the Yuuzhan Vong somehow wiped out all life in their entire galaxy, and caused 365 TRILLION casualties when in the Star Wars galaxy alone, which not even the Empire could do in the scale of a few months like the Vong did. Compare that to The Flood, which function more like an alien version of the Black Plague, but sentient, and far more destructive as just a single Flood spore can destroy an entire planet within just a few weeks. That's the reason The Flood works in the context of the Halo universe, while the Vong don't work since the Vong are ridiculous and over-the-top and don't even fit the context of the Star Wars universe, whileas Halo is known for doing over-the-top things like what the Vong did in their arc, and it's explicitly stated that the Halo Array was created to destroy The Flood, something the Death Star could never do, or any superweapon in Star Wars for that matter.

    • @flamesofchaos13
      @flamesofchaos13 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Masterge77
      Well except there's Two things you're missing in Halo Lore...
      1. The Covenant are EXACTLY a Death Cult....Their an Fanatical Religion that dictates what Lives and more importantly what Dies under their Regime, Also the very Leadership of the Regime did in fact know about the Halo's real purpose but simply chose to ignore it because they were in fact a Death Cult believing death will bring them "enlightenment".
      2. That there's actually five different Entities/Factions that want Humanity's very extinction which are the Covenant, the Flood, the Forerunners, Cortana and the various other A.I. constructs, an MAYBE the Banished....So in Halo Lore the precedent has been set that it's okay to have multiple Genocidal Factions in Universe. So whats one more to add to the list?
      But yes you're indeed right to say Halo already has Factions similar to the Yuuzhan Vong, But isn't that why they'd make such a more perfect fit in Halo rather then the others?
      Also like I said they don't fit into Mass Effect because all of the Humanoid Species in the Universe are never just a Death Cult or completely Evil, While those that aren't....The Collectors were Mind-Controlled Drones so their Slaves, The Reapers are not Humanoid and are Machines not People they don't even try to be anything else, The Geth we see later on were justified in their "Attacks" against their Creators (Self-Defense) and also that the enemy Geth you fight earlier on were/are a Splinter Faction of Extremists NOT the actual Species as a Whole.
      So in comparison the Yuuzhan Vong just don't fit the tone of a Mass Effect Species and Villain because their not a Complex Morally Grey Humanoid Villain but instead just an Evil Cult of Dicks.
      The only things close to the Yuuzhan Vong in Mass Effect are the Reapers and Cerberus, But the two closest things are completely different to the Yuuzhan Vong because the former are just Machines doing what they think is right to save the Galaxy at large, While the latter is actually the complete opposite Morality of the Yuuzhan Vong instead depicting a Morally Grey Villain who's arguably really a Good Guy doing Bad Things for all the Right Reasons.
      So the Two Major Mass Effect Villains are well very different from just a Death Cult because those Factions actually have underlining Good Causes unlike the Yuuzhan Vong.

    The Vong hold a weird place in my mind. On one hand they are the catalyst for the decline of the post ROTJ EU (IMO). But on the other they were an idea with potential that went unexplored. If they were to return it could be great opportunity to "fix" the greatest mistake in legends Canon. Take what worked about them, (Highly Religious but without the 9/11 influence, biotechnology but don't make OP as hell, being technophobes but have fun with it also add Galaxy residents being phobic about the Vong tech, "It's gross and weird". Extragalactic origins but have it stream lined.) Drop what didn't (Pain obsessed that's right out, Warrior/Conqueror race hell no they killed everything in their Galaxy and caused their homeworld to abandon them and not one of them put 2 and 2 together, Population in the billions no they made the journey across dark space they aren't all making it.) You know actually try.

    To think that the Yuuzhan Vong were supposed to appear in one of the canceled Clone Wars episodes in sort of an X-Files style. I can't imagine Disney bringing the Yuuzhan Vong back into canon. Not only was this episode planned before the Disney acquisition, but it also doesn't really fit the new canon, even with the time gap between Return and Awakens.

    Great discussion. Think you're right that the vong are more sci-fi and less space opera. The name stands out best to other star wars names imo.
    Maybe in a world where star wars leaned more into it's pulp roots and less on classical / mythic storytelling

    I feel like a Vong Lite would've been cool. Post Og Trilogy Vong who come from some corner of the galaxy. Originally a force sensitive species that turned hostile after CIS fudged their junk up or something along those lines, and are springing a vengeful invasion years later after building thesmelves up. But that still falls into that whole "superpower in the boonies" shtick

    Really enjoyed the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, it was something new and not just another Imperial faction. I loved the way it essentially trashed the New Republic and thus made you question if Palpatine and Thrawn were right. I also liked the death of Chewbacca, not a character I particularly liked, and worked well in a story telling aspect in regards to Han, Leia and their kids lives splitting as the galaxy split around them. But they shouldn't be brought back into Canon because they would be watered down.

      I want them back but I want them to be changed to make them more realistic and a bit less brutal. They also should just have creepy looking melee blades instead of actual snakes. They could also get laser beams that they vaporize people with, use their sharp claws, super strength, have dangerous hounds, have more realistic vehicles, still have flying beasts, and have poison weapons. I think they should even have deadly assassins with active camo and either some plasma weapons (That fire yellow or orange shots) or deadly projectile weapons.

    Congratulations on the baby, dude! I actually have one more book in the Old Republic era and have started reading Heir to the Empire, but after I am done with the Thrawn Trilogy I will begin reading Vector Prime. After hearing so much about the Vong, they seem pretty interesting and dark. Since Disney owns Star Wars, they want everything to be kid friendly, so the grittines that the Vong carries would be stripped away. In all honestly, it would be a surprise that they would return to canon, but their disconnect from the Force as a whole is what makes them so demonic and other worldly, so they would probably be changed into powerful dark side users.
    Oh well, just my thoughts, keep up the good work on the channel!

  • @Wittle_Boyo

    No. Otherwise the canon fans will show off their double standard again. If it was legends EU, then it’s shit. The new canon however is apparently not shit and more sensical to them.
    Keep them separate forever. I don’t want anymore legends material in canon because I want new material that doesn’t feel derived.

    I honestly think that this will eventually happen maybe 20-30 years down the road with Episodes 10, 11 and 12 after the events of the Skywalker saga and once they run out of ideas for Disney+ shows. It's either this or an Old Republic Trilogy which will be set way before the Prequel Trilogy.

    A species being cut off from the force seems extremely plausible to me. The Exile was cut off from the force because she witnessed and basically caused the tragedy that is Mandalore. One planet. The Yuzon literally destroyed their entire galaxy, with powers they got from thier sentient planet, that became disgusted with them and was also destroyed. Then instead of trying to atone like the exile, or knowing how to feed off the galaxy like Nilous, or actually that not being an option since they went thru dead space for thousands of years, with nothing to feed on, or planets with ancient holocrons to teach them... Instead they adopted a religion of pain. Makes perfect sense the force was just looking at them and said, nope.
