Did anyone have any gladioli in a valentines bouquet? Maybe you've got the real thing to paint? Don't forget you can now buy the exact same brushes that I use in my videos in my Etsy store! www.etsy.com/uk/shop/deWintonPaperco
This was my first serious attempt to learn to paint with watercolour. I wanted to make a birthday card for a friend. It turned out so nice that I‘m actually gonna use it 😂 thank you so much❤
It's beautiful, your flower-themed paintings always bring a soft color, I love this gladiolus. The flower has a symbolic meaning of passionate love or noble passion. In addition, flowers also symbolize happiness, affluence, joy and strong friendship, or show self-compassion.
Thank you very much for this video! Wonderful painting and beautiful words Harriet! I love you work and your channel! You are really an inspiration for all of us! Have a nice day!
No no thank you Harriet for starting up your channel. I just got around to it during the Christmas season while making Christmas cards. It’s so relaxing to paint with watercolor. I have chronic pain as well, and often, I sit down to paint or just watch you paint - an hour goes by and I’ve noticed that I’m pain free. Plus when I watch the tutorials, I find myself smiling at the manifestation of a beautifully colored flower and your completed project. Love flowers anyway, but now…😊 Thank you
Gosh Johanna, that's amazing that the escape of watercolour - whether painting or just watching - can have such a positive effect, I'm so pleased for you.
@@deWintonPaperCo the positive effect is one we all are aware of- watercolor painting is relaxing- meditative in a sense. Chronic pain is highly associated with anxiety, so decreasing my anxiety in turn lowers the pain😊. If you’ve ever had any kind of pain from an injury you know how your body winces up and you feel anxious. Concentrating on painting, enjoy seeing blue disperse into the green on hydrangea petals for example- good medicine! Thanks again You’re the best!
Nice job, I will paint these with yellow, pink and lime green colored 'glad' blooms. I appreciate your way of painting loose but NOT too loose. I tend to paint more opaque than translucent.
Gosh, how daunting gladdies would have been without this brilliant tutorial. And thank you both for all the videos you've done. I can honestly say I've learnt more from you in the past 2 years, than in many, many years of futile and frustrated dabbling, with only sporadic and minor successes. 👍 xx
These are so beautiful !!!! Could you please do a tutorial for cherry blossoms? I have such a hard time making “open” petals like blossoms. You’re teaching me so much ☺️
cannot wait to try with my new brushes received from you :) not to long to go before my mini break... when I will have all the time in the world to paint and practice :)
I'm from western New York, farm land, Amish n lots of flower gardens. I've always called them Glads. Gladiolus is just to long... lol. Love your work.💐
Thank you! I loved this simple tutorial. I am painting 2 birthday cards for friends with August Birthdays, so I will use these techniques that you simplified for us. Well done! Very helpful and I love your voice and enthusiasm. Thanks for sharing your talents!
Thank you Harriet for this beautiful lesson...and for starting your channel when you did. You’ve inspired so many people, my self included, with your paintings, the way you talk through your process and the way you paint. Have a glorious day.😁🙏
Beautiful piece, Harriet! Gladioli are my favourite flowers, and I'm a beginner watercolourist, so this tutorial will be a great help to me. I love your painting style!
Thank you!! Your tutorials have been so helpful for those of us who turned to watercolor to get through the last couple of years. Your work is beautiful!
Absolutely stunning, thank you. I've just recently found your channel, (I'm so glad I did),I love the way you teach, calm and clear instructions for me as a complete beginner.
I was so excited to see a new post from you today. You break down the steps in a manageable way! This tutorial is great! Your work is much appreciated by me and many others. And I’m doing my best to promote you in my various social media groups when people ask for recommendations. Keep up the good work. (And I love your new “hairdo”😊)
Another amazing tutorial! I just finished painting your magnolia tutorial and can’t wait to try this one. Thank you so much for sharing your gift. I’ve only been painting since November and have found your tutorials are so helpful and easy to follow!
After looking at several reference photos, the buds began to make more sense. I still need work on my flowers. I switched to opera rose thinned way down and it worked better for translucency on both my Arches CP and Strathmore CP. I was so into this I did 3 and had to stop partway through #4. It was after midnight!!
Beautiful! Wish I could see how you painted the stems between the petals though. I always seem to have a lot of trouble with that, especially if there is any substance to the stems, like there is in this example.
@@deWintonPaperCo hi Harriet. As I'm all new to this I would like to buy some 'practice' paper but I have no idea what to look for. Very much enjoying your pro arte brushes
Hi Harriet I’d like to find out what size paper you usually using for these tutorials, so that I can get my flowers size scale to the paper. If I paint along with you and I’m making flowers the size you’re making them it doesn’t always work out
I am a total beginner. I love your tutorials. This one got me stumped though. I can't get the sort of jagged edges on the petals. I watch you start, very carefully, but simply cannot understand how you are getting the jagged edges. What am I doing wrong.??
Hello. I have recently found your dems Which are lovely, and helping me to become and artist at 82. I love it and wish I had started years ago. However , please tell me why your camera person found it necessary to keep changing to view of the painting from upright , then to sideways on. It drove me mad as just as I was focusing on a particular petal then we lost it and had to turn our head sideways. It was so frustrating, and I have never seen it on any other video I am learning from. Apart from that I love your site and watch it very often. Anita.

So good, so fine lines. Can you tell me what type of brush I need to do such lines. Is it all your brilliant skill.
You need a rigger brush. You can buy the same one I use here www.etsy.com/uk/shop/deWintonPaperco
Another beautiful composition. Can you advise what the best paper in a block is for doodling, practising petals, leaves etc for an absolute beginner
Hi Jane, I dont tend to use blocks much but to be honest, whatever paper you enjoy using as a pad, it should be available as a block too!
If I paint along with you and I’m making flowers the size you’re making them it doesn’t always work out
I used a 6x8 inch piece of paper for this
I had the exact problem; thanks for this.
how did you separate your pallet
I just pulled the two pieces apart
What brand is your Green-Gold? I live in the US and cannot find that color in Daniel Smith, Winsor-Newton. or other brands.
It is daler rowney
I am a total beginner. I love your tutorials. This one got me stumped though. I can't get the sort of jagged edges on the petals. I watch you start, very carefully, but simply cannot understand how you are getting the jagged edges. What am I doing wrong.??
It’s with lots of little brush strokes along the edge to keep it uneven to make the one petal
@@deWintonPaperCoThanks I will try that.
Why start at the bottom of stems?
Why not? Painting is largely instinctive and this is how I wanted to paint
