Thanks for giving such elaborate and clear instructions! Some people are like: “just wiggle the brush like this and that” and all of a sudden they have a stunning flower and I have a blob 😅but with your instructions I can follow along and actually paint something that looks like what I want to paint! Thanks so much! I bought both your books and can’t wait to get started!
Love how you’ve done this Harriet… step by step! As this was filmed 3 years ago, could you do another one that’s current as well? Maybe a different colour? I’m definitely on a rose quest!!
After literally years of watching and reading I can finally paint a loose watercolour rose. Not until I watched your 5 top tips, all of which I was doing wrongly. Thank you so much. I have also just ordered your book. Sue Sanders
I am just picking up my paint brushes again after 10 years. I have never really learned to paint flowers and I’m really enjoying your tutorials as I am left handed also. One would think it really doesn’t matter learning from someone that is right handed, but it does! Thank you! 😊
The way you paint roses in this loose but still fairly accurate style works so beautifully. I just purchased your lovely book from Amazon and am very excited to get started. I am new to watercolor, though I have had some experience painting with acrylics. I have started out by practicing the basic strokes first, but I am getting really excited to try out some flowers and leaves:) Thank you for sharing all you have learned.
I love your clear direct teaching style. I guess loose style is hard to follow and botanical painting is too time-consuming. Your style really is what I am looking for and helps to relax and still enjoy working toward a nice painting. Thank you so much for sharing online. Great work!!
Your tutorials are all really helpful. I am unfortunately not able to take my paints to DC but when in Florida at the parents place I will be practicing this here. So while I'm still here for two days I will learn some more tomorrow
@@deWintonPaperCo I did make an attempt at this right before I left. Unfortunately TH-cam doesn’t make it possible to show a pic here It came out relatively ok for a first try. But will have to practice more when I visit Florida next
OH MY GOSH, you are the first artist that actually paints the leaves of a rose. Yours have the tiny flicks on the edges, it makes the rose look more like a rose. I've seen so many people paint a peony and the leaves are like every other flower they paint. And actually the peony leaves are different. It drives me crazy, so thank you so much for being real. I'm so glad I found you. I have just ordered your lovely book. Should be here in 2 days, can't wait.
Your tips for thickening the branches make such a difference in helping everything look more realistic and natural. As you noted, what an impact those little details make! The veining on the leaves is gorgeous - it always feels like over-veining ruins perfectly nice leaves, but they often need a little something for definition. This looks just right!
A super demo - thank you very much! I just love how you form your petals and leaves - without effort! Love following your tutorials - you do a wonderful job! xxx
I absolutely love your videos. Not only are you so talented, and informative - you seem like such a lovely person 💕 keep up the amazing work, I find your videos so relaxing and love seeing whatever you create! Xxx

Ah so pleased I've (accidently!) found you. I have your book and have started working through it during lockdown and was struggling with the rose. Your video has really helped and I think I can give it a much better go tomorrow. Thank you! Loving your videos and the book.
LOVE your art and instructions. I notice you never dab your brush on a paper towel to remove excess water or color. I struggle with how much water vs paint.
I love your tutorial. One of the best. Thank you for sharing this tutorial and your talent. You are great teacher and artist. There are so many tutorials in TH-cam but yours is the best. Explaining and camera angles. Thank you once again. I hope I can find your book. Please take care. :)
i found this one so hard to do... had to make it like 10 times ;) i struggled with the petals, the leaves and the overall composition of it all!! but in the end i am very happy with the last one! thank you so much to both of you for this tutorial!!
Ah Marie, Roses are hard but they get better with practise which is exactly what you did. I still find it a bit of a challenge each time so keep going!
I just found your AMAZING channel and I am overjoyed!!!! Thank you for making these instructional videos. I am enjoying my return to watercolor painting. Can you tell me the name of your pallet? Thanks again!
I’m so excited to try this! I struggle with stems and leaves in particular and your style of starting with those first and then going back to them later seems so much more stress free. P.S. that last pop of colour on the rose honestly blew me away. It’s so gorgeously simple but needs an expert eye to get just right - I hope I can get to that level one day
Such a lovely tutorial, thanks Harriet! This is my next project to take on! I tried painting hydrangeas by following the step by step guide in your book and I had a really nice time doing it as well. x
Hi Jace, I'm so glad you've been enjoying the book. I love the hydrangea project in there. It will be good to see how this compares with learning from the diagrams in the book.
Hi Liliana, You can use both but brands will vary in how much the two sides differ, if at all. I use both sides. the best thing is to have a go and see!
I have a question for you: I find myself working for whole sessions, just practicing making scribbles. Is it better to make random "marks," or make "things" like leaves? Sometimes my practice pages look like the work of a madman! Often I just like the feel of the paint sliding on the paper...
I was wondering about the book, you are promoting here; how come in the UK there is a Kindle version, but not in the US? I preordered your new book, & amazon says I can get it digital woop woop
What i have learned on many tutoriels is not to leave puddles on the Strokes, i would be tempted to remove as much water as possible. If not, i get water blooms. There is a lot of water on the leaves. I tend to prefer the more even colors once dried.
I love the finished look of this tutorial. What i meant by my comment is that my finished Product would have lots of blooms! I love watching every thing you paint.
Hello Harriet! My aunt is really appreciating your work and is wondering to buy your spanish book. She thanks you for your detailed explanation. We would like to kindly ask you to add automatically spanish subtitles in your videos, in case it is possible. Thank you, and Shalom!

Gorgeous + !!!!! ❤❤❤

Incredible I’m going to try thank you so much for sharing you awesome talents of painting and teaching.
Thanks so much 😊
Wonderfull !
Many thanks!
Definitely a lovely way to create a rose. This reminds me of the rose in the Beauty and the Beast :)
Ah yes, that’s a big compliment!
This is gorgeous , I’ve been wanting to try floral art , it is a lovely tutorial , Thankyou so much
Thanks so much Jen, I hope this is a helpful introduction.
Awesome thank you
No problem!
Beautiful thank you. I'd love to be able to paint this rose. I keep practicing my roses, I'll get there one day. Thanks again.
You will, it's all about practise!

I like the was you paintet Roses and leaves. Which color are the details on the leaves?
Just concentrated sap green

Great idea! yes I'll definitely do one of those
Can beige or gray water color paper be used so the flowers show up
better in the filming?
Afraid not Sharon
Beautiful ! Love your paintings ! May I ask the brand of your brushes ? Thank u !
They are called Pro Arte. Link in episode notes
I have often wondered if you can really use both sides or the paper . Is the one that comes infront the one to use only? Thank you.
Hi Liliana, You can use both but brands will vary in how much the two sides differ, if at all. I use both sides. the best thing is to have a go and see!
@@deWintonPaperCo I shall do that. I am using Arches, but sometimes cannot get it.
Have a good week.

I think it’s best to go with your gut instincts. If the paint is sliding off the paper maybe go for a rougher/cold pressed paper
@@deWintonPaperCo Thank you!
is that one slice of paper ? i wanna try to draw it like you just show . its beautiful ❤
Thanks!
Lovely, I guess I'm lost as to where the rose is placed? It looks like its hanging off the side of the vine but not attached. Is it me ?
It’s a case of imagining the stem behind it
I was wondering about the book, you are promoting here;
how come in the UK there is a Kindle version, but not in the US? I preordered your new book, & amazon says I can get it digital woop woop
Glad you’ve sorted it out!
Can you do a video making white roses
I have a few videos on white flowers in general, nothing on a white rose yet.
