@@randomhuman97 I think the problem is that yes, stuntmen has been doing insane things for years, but nothing, NOTHING on the scale tom cruise has done, hanging off a plane, doing a HALO jump(something only SPECIAL FORCES personnel can do, not just some stuntment) like hell, HES IN A JET, AN FA18, PULLING DAMN Gs, THROWING HIMSELF OFF A CLIFF ON A MOTORCYCLE. also, seriously this guy's running quota per movie is just wrong. like seriously, he is throwing a train off a cliff for the new mission impossible, and he was HANGING OFF A HELICOPTER, THEN FLYING A HELICOPTER DOING THINGS ONLY HEAVILY EXPERIENCED HELICOPTER PILOTS CAN DO. and yes yes you might say he can do that because he has money and hes very safe because of his teams upon teams of safety personnel, and that's true to an extent, doesn't mean it doesn't still take extreme balls to do these god tier stunts, like Henry cavill said during a interview on the graham norton show, "You know your safe because of all of the safety personnel and they're very amazing and triple check everything, but its still a few hundred feet below" like, many stuntment often fall from a building or turn a motorcycle a few degrees what its supposed to go, maybe even drive a car once in awhile doing some mild turning, but they usually are some pretty deadly stunts, but usually still need to have a LOT of cgi to make it into the finished product(in tom's stunts, usually the only thing that is cgi is maybe explosions(some explosions are real) bullets flying through the air, and removing safety wires or safety ramps), and there are already many measures that are tried and true to make sure stuntment won't die doing these dangerous stunts, unlike's tom's stunts which are so out of the ordinary there has never been a way to safely full proof protect someone doing those types of stunts. in conclusion, yes, I have a huge amount of respect for all stuntmen out there, they have some balls to do what they do, and they are amazing. But cruise is literally on a whole nother level just because what he does is beyond what ANYONE else in the film industry has done in the past 50-60 years(before cgi was a thing and everyone had to do it for real, and even then tom had done better than that) which is why people do say, including me, that he gives him his all, and scarily, nearly his life for a lot of his movies for nothing but entertainment.
I think it's more for the sake of self satisfaction and we get to watch

_Top Gun: Maverick_ was an absolute masterpiece, it MUST be seen on a big screen, IMAX preferably. It was just awesome if you're into military aviation.
I just watched it for the second time and it is so worth it. Such a good movie and he made the right calls in making the actors go up in the F18’s to get their genuine reaction on film.

I'm sorry. I missed the IMAX version sadly, but it's going to be on Paramount+ and Blu-Ray at least, but the downside of that is the IMAX 6-Track audio heard only in IMAX theaters. I had to wait to see it on Father's Day because my father loved the first one, but he didn't want me to see it right then to spoil it for him. I would have seen it right then and hinted that it's REALLY great.

@@randomhuman97 For one, it’s VERY rare for a huge movie star to do their own stunts (specifically dangerous ones). When Tom does the stunts in these movies we all see that it’s him and not some other guy his size doing the stunts.
There’s a lot of trust and preparation that goes into what Tom does that I don’t think you understand fully. Dude got hurt badly filming a scene, so anything can happen.

Tom Cruise is the 21st century's 'Jackie Chan', I must say. He pushed the boundaries of stunt performances by an actor, what Jackie Chan set a benchmark for himself in the 80's and 90's.
Tom cruise 10 times better than jackie chan. The stunts that tom did were next level than what jackie did. I can assure you jackie wouldn't dare to do the stunts that tom did. Too dangerous even for jackie
@@razikroos8854 well Jackie Chan never had the budget to fly jets for instance or a hyper professional crew available on demand. He had to do it with limited resources. You may have a look at his stunts and all his injuries. Jackie Chan risked a lot and never backed down regarding doing dangerous stunts.

Tom's Burj Khalifa Stunt: while is indeed a impressive stunt, Tom did wear a special harness attached to strategic points in the building.
Now compare this to Jackie's Skyscraper Slide Stunt, where Jackie slided down the Willemswerf building in Rotterdam it's said that he did this stunt 3 times with and without the help of a safety line, in one of these times he nearly fell, i mean i think Jackie stunt was alot more dangerous.
Tom's Hanging Onto a Plane Stunt: while it was really dangerous, at the same time, there was plenty of planning and practice involved in order to minimize the risks. Tom was in a full body harness and he’s cabled and wired to the plane through its door. Inside the aircraft was an aluminum truss that was carefully bolted to the plane, which held the wires that went through the door, which held Tom and The team were also very careful about cleaning the runway so there were no rocks. And the plane took it off in certain weather conditions.
Now compare this to Jackie's Hanging Onto a Helicopter Ladder Stunt. This stunt sees Chan leaping from the roof of a six-story building and onto the rungs of a rope ladder. Chan is then dragged through the city as the chopper tries to shake him off - behind the scenes, he was likely dangling for over 45 minutes WITHOUT a safety harness, this stunt is like on a whole other level crazyness.
Tom's Hanging And Falling Off a Helicopter: This one was risky and required alot of skill on Tom's part and props to him for that However, Tom again was using a safety line to reduce the danger of this stunt, if you compare that to Jackie's Snowboarding Onto a Helicopter stunt, during this stunt Jackie snowboarded towards the edge of a cliff where he leaped and clinged to the ski of a helicopter, the helicopter rised up just in time for him to leap from the precipice and cling onto the runners underneath the chopper. A few inches up or down would have spelled disaster.
I mean have you see the pattern here most of the time Tom has more safety measures and intense preparation to do his stunts, where Jackie does not. and not even couting other Jackie Chan stunts like : Crawilng Over Hot Coals, Slinding a Electrified Pole and falling to the ground without any padding or mats to land on, or Falling Off a Clock Tower, where dropped at leat 3 stories from a clock tower, fell through two awnings and landed on his head.
Don't get me wrong Tom Cruise is a legit badass but Jackie Chan is just on a whole other level.

I somehow knew that climbing Burj Khalifa would be #1. Every time I see that scene I'm on the verge of a heart attack. Thinking that if I did this I'd have to be hanging and something happens and I'm falling makes me sweat like crazy. That and the rock climb on MI2. Maybe it's just my fear of heights.
Note that the bike chase from Knight and Day was so iconic a scene, that the Indian Heist/Action Movie Dhoom 2 re-used and modified the scene for their own use. No Bulls though.
Tom Cruise will always deserve a place in movie history for his willingness to put himself in danger for audience entertainment.

6:20 some of the scenes they do in both top gun movies are really underrated for how difficult they are. At one point, Tom's flying 20 feet above the desert. You have to understand that if on the day of that scene being filmed, your hands are slightly shaky, you could be flying into the ground at basically mach 1 before you even realize your mistake

I'm surprised they do not let him use real bullets on the cast as they wear bullet proof gear. Apparently he used real guns without bullets. It is amazing how far he goes with the stunts. I thought it was impressive with what the stuntmen in Friday the 13th did such as being buried in the mud and even losing a finger by a cast member. One actress nearly died in cold water as a stuntman saved her. Cruise and Jackie Chan are on a different level. They have better stuff nowadays to do stunts but they are still fairly crazy.

Its worth noting that Tom Cruise opts for using practical effects instead of CGI. And he does his own stunts. Not many A list actors do that.
For me it’s the following:
The Burj Khalifa climb (Mission: IMPOSSIBLE- Ghost Protocol).
Free hand climbing (Mission: IMPOSSIBLE).
Motorcycle chase (Knight and Day).
making him seem as tall if not taller than the people around him was the biggest stunt of all in my opinion.
Why you got to rag on his height something he can't change..yes he's shorter like a number of other male actors. He's out here living his best life enjoying the job he does.. Didn't realise we all have to be 6ft tall.. When you get a top 20 of any thing then you can talk..
