How Tom Cruise Pulled Off 12 'Mission: Impossible' Stunts | Movies Insider | Insider

  • Tom Cruise famously does nearly all of his own stunts throughout the "Mission: Impossible" series and is constantly finding ways to elevate them to new levels. In "Mission: Impossible 2" (2000), he free-solo climbed on camera, a stunt which was originally supposed to be done by a professional climber.
    In "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" (2011), Cruise climbed on the side of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is the world’s tallest building. For the action scenes in "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" (2015), he clung to the side of an airplane flying 1,000 feet in the air and then trained alongside co-star Rebecca Ferguson to hold his breath underwater for an extended period of time. In "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" (2018), he performed a HALO jump on camera from 25,000 feet in the air, trained 16 hours a day to fly a helicopter, and then rode a motorcycle at up to 100 mph in Paris.
    In the latest installment, "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" (2023), Cruise’s stunts involve a motorbike jump off a mountain, a one-handed car chase while handcuffed to actress Hayley Atwell, intense fight choreography in Venice’s narrow alleyways, and a fight scene on top of a moving train.
    “Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One”, is now playing in theatres everywhere.

    It's actually crazy how a young Tom in MI 1 was part of a big CG finale but the older Tom would literally do it fr. The man's nuts & I love him for that.

    Even after watching Oppenheimer, Dead Reckoning Part 1 is still my favourite film of this year so far

    • @Crushenator500
      @Crushenator500 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I liked Dead Reckoning WAY more than Oppenheimer, that movie honestly bored me outside of a few great scenes. It's a shame Nolan took all the Imax screens for his movie, like 99% of it was just guys in suits talking in a room. Mission Impossible is a much more impressive Imax spectacle movie.

    • @irrumnaaz
      @irrumnaaz ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yea, same even after Oppenheimer which was good, I prefer MI. Honestly it's killin me that it's flunkin a lil now at the box office because of the damn Barbieheimer event.

    • @maimoneattia
      @maimoneattia 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@irrumnaazagreed. Oppenheimer and Barbie are good films but I really want MI 7 to succeed at the box office and it's a shame it's having to struggle because of the marketing hype for the other 2 movies. Maybe if they keep MI 7 in theaters another month that will help? Of all the big movies released this summer it's the most exciting and most cinematic.

    • @irrumnaaz
      @irrumnaaz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@maimoneattia I hope they do keep it in for a while. There are less screenings for the film as well which really irritates me. The movie hasn't made the average too because of how much they spent on the film, due to covid. I'll be damned if I'm going to let it sink, going in for a third watch of the film and I really hope it picks up.

    Tom really is unique in the way he does all his own stunts. The only other actor I can think of that does everything himself is Steven Segal. He only ever uses a stuntman in those rare an super dangerous scenes where he has to jump through a wall on fire, fight an actual bear, run, walk up stairs, walk down stairs, stand up, or talk

    When I was 13 My father worked on Quadraphenia & took
    me to work with him most days while being made.
    I vividly remember as they rehearsed & shot for the scooter
    scene that shows Phil Daniels riding off the cliff at Beachy Head.
    My dad built the bike 'ramp' that propelled the bike off the cliff edge
    since the bike wasn't actually being ridden. Daniels had to jump
    off the bike beforehand.
    It almost ended in disaster after the helicopter filming was missed
    by bike by just a few feet.
    With all the extra tech & safety measures in place today, Buster Keaton
    was likely one of the last & greatest true actor stuntmen (who is actually
    a hero of & studied by Jackie Chan!)

    The one paragliding at 5:40 they were prepping to film while I was on holiday at the Lake District, precisely in Buttermere. That's Buttermere lake. I was kinda annoyed of the helicopter going up and down the hill across my hotel for the whole duration of my holiday xD. with 2 guys paragliding. The next week a colleague of mine went and hiked up that hill and met Tom doing the stunt himself. I guess I was there while they were prepping the choreography and stuff.

    Visual effects are good enough that some of these scenes could be done while looking decent without all this physical work to make the real deal. Going the extra mile like this is being a real stickler for details.

    Something doesn't add up. In the movie, the fight sequence on top of the train looks completely fake. I didn't spot a single shot that looked like they were actually on a moving train. Every shot looked like a CG background or some kind of CGI touch up. Same goes for the bike jump stunt. It just doesn't look real due to CGI touchup and editing. The behind the scenes footage of the bike jump looks far more impressive than what's in the actual movie. The Burj Khalifa stunt in Ghost Protocol and the stunt where he's on the side of the plane in Rogue Nation have FAR more impact than the stunts in Fallout and Dead Reckoning. They are much more grounded in their editing and overall presentation.

      The parachute stunt in The Spy Who Loved Me was more impressive and done with a lot less prep. It also didn't involve a massive ramp (there was a plywood one built by the stuntman himself), computer modeling (he threw toilet paper rolls over the side to gauge the wind), or any CGI. Just skiing off a mountain, and they got it in one take.

    Insider can ask Tom Cruise about this! European states, in defiance of the sanctions regime, accepted many rich Russians connected with the Kremlin, gave them citizenship and allowed them to settle in European states without restrictions on movement and bank transfers. The US has the right to fine such European states a lot of money, because the EU and Britain did not even prohibit these Russians with European citizenship from leaving European states due to the sanctions regime! It is time for the Biden administration and other ruling American Democrats to think about this for the benefit of the American economy. The United States must not forget the interests of the American economy and the American military lobby! For example, after the annexation of Western Ukraine to Poland, the US can forever receive additional income if the Polish Ukrainians will forever fight for independence. The US may not formally support the Ukrainian rebels in Poland, the CIA or the Soros Foundation may secretly support the Ukrainian Insurgent Army there! Moreover, the United States may designate armed Ukrainian rebel groups as terrorist organizations in order to formally dissociate itself from involvement in supporting the rebellious Ukrainians. If Ukrainian rebels sometimes destroy Polish warehouses with purchased American weapons and ammunition - then Poland will have to additionally (more) buy these American military goods! (Furthermore, if the new Ukrainian terrorists occasionally destroy American weapons depots in other EU states, this will further increase the sale of American weapons to European states!) But the CIA or the Soros Foundation should take care of the possibility of Ukrainian terrorists to successfully steal American weapons and ammunition from Polish depots in order to continue the insurgent struggle "against the Polish occupiers." (Ukrainian Insurgent Army in Poland must have secret reinforcements of Ukrainian volunteers from all over the world!) The interests of the American economy are more important than the interests of Poland! There will be opportunities for starting a conflict between Ukrainians and Poles in Poland if Poland occupies at least a small piece of Western Ukraine. Western Ukrainians have more than a hundred years of experience in the national liberation struggle, partisan banditry and terrorist attacks against Poland! This experience should serve American economic interests. (The more ferocious and intense the confrontation between Poles and Ukrainians in Poland, the more benefits will be received by the American media, banks and arms exporters!) The Europeans should support the US with money, because it is the most powerful ally of the Europeans! It is time for the EU and Britain to legally confiscate all treasures, real estate, company shares and bank deposits of foreign criminals who arrived in their states from the former Soviet republics. Those criminals have a lot of property in Europe (purchased with illegal proceeds) that can be sold - so the Europeans will get a lot of money to support the US! Why would Europeans keep the property of incoming killers, thieves, bandits, bribe takers, swindlers, gang leaders, illegal drug dealers, slave traders, illegal arms dealers and other criminals for European taxpayers' money? Moreover, the Europeans no longer need the traitors of the USSR and their descendants, so it's time to confiscate all the wealth of those fugitive scoundrels too! Criminals can live modestly and work for normal wages for employers like the working class. US interests for Europe must be above the interests of crime! The USA is the Supreme World Hegemon, the Master, the Master, the Judge and the Teacher of All Mankind. Therefore, it is necessary to support the great American producer Ken Cockin, who makes a great movie! All this will not spoil relations between the West and Russia. By the way, the recent Islamic protest march in Moscow refutes the information about Putin's dictatorship in Russia! You saw that the local police did not interfere with this march, so the Muslims have no claims against the administration of Moscow and the Kremlin for "obstructing the opposition rally." The Muslims of Russia are calm and loyal to Vladimir Putin and his loyal United Russia party! In addition to this, Poland must legalize same-sex marriage, otherwise it turns out that the insidious Poland silently protests against the liberalism and globalism of the US and the EU - that is, against the global domination of the West. American Republicans don't even think that Poland has mined the world domination of the West, because the Republican Party is also conservative and short-sighted! Moreover, the Republicans do not want to audit the activities of Elon Musk over the past five years. Americans, Vote Democrat! Moreover, it is time for Great America to investigate the impact of Arab rain-producing experiments on fire droughts in Greece and Turkey. Arab weather experiments stopped rain from preventing wildfires in Turkey and Greece? (If the American Nation is worried about climate change.) Will Israel assist in this investigation? By the way, Poland and the Austro-Hungarian Empire created the Ukrainians as a bandit and terrorist tribe - from the Talerhof concentration camp to the terrorist organizations of Petlyura, Bandera and Shukhevych! (Americans have a right to know this story of the forced conversion of Russian-loyal Rusyns into Ukrainian Russophobes.) With fake history and anti-humane radical nationalist values. (Look how savagely Ukrainians treat prisoners!) But in order to more successfully supply the Ukrainian terrorist organizations and the mafia, they must levy a forced “Ukrainian national struggle tax” from the Ukrainian diasporas of NATO, EU and AUCUS! Ukrainians have successfully forgotten that they are Rusyns and consider themselves mythical Ukrainians. Despite the declared freedom of speech in the NATO and EU states, even the leading media are embarrassed to conduct historical investigations on this topic and there are no truth-seeking human rights movements to de-Ukrainize the fooled Rusyns there! Hollywood doesn't make movies about it. With the Sword of Truth, I fight against Lies! Therefore, know that Moscow is still safe and you can visit this city. Hotels, theaters, nightclubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, apartment buildings, elite clubs for the richest people, government buildings, metro stations, bus stops, carousels, cinemas, warehouses, bridges, stock exchanges, banks, party offices, airports , insurance companies, real estate companies, television companies, newspaper editorial offices, hospitals, pharmacies, massage parlors, fountains, shops, repair shops, military commissariats, mobile communication towers, parking lots, advertising street structures and agencies, beauty salons, universities, football and other sports stadiums, embassies, traffic lights, cemeteries, security services, police stations, railway stations, statues, hookahs, power line transformers, parks, luxury mansions on Rublevsky Highway and not only there, public toilets, temples of various religions, markets, casinos, garages in security day and night, and you can visit them! Ukrainian combat drones are not a serious threat to Moscow and foreign tourists there. Moreover, Russia has forgiven large debts to African states, although there are many poor people in Russia! Russia's poorer half don't resent this, because the Kremlin will soon cut interest rates on bank loans significantly so that everyone in Russia can profitably borrow a lot of money for development. But Japan doesn't fund the American economy enough! It's time for American companies to sell 100 percent of their imported raw materials to Japanese companies so that more money flows into the US economy. Ask Tom Cruise to interest his fans!
