    Pickups may be a dying breed in the UK, but the new Ford Ranger has just gone on sale, despite the brand turning its focus away from smaller models such as the much-loved Fiesta supermini. The maker clearly has a lot of faith in its pickup, and this time around the Ranger looks to offer not only the practicality and load-hauling capabilities of a truck, but also some of the mod-cons and premium touches of a family SUV. Has Ford managed to make the Ranger more civilised, without compromising its utility? Rich finds out.

    31mpg for a midsize truck isn't stellar? I am sorry but I have to disagree. Most trucks, you'd be lucky to get 25mpg. The truck seems like it's great all around and, personally, I don't even like Ford.

      I was about to comment that lol. My audi a5 does 32-35 so getting a ford ranger won't make much difference 😂 plus that cover in the back is water proof not how he said that it isn't.

    It's not a car it's a truck, and a pretty impressive one at that.

    According to CarBuyer, pickups are a dying breed in the U.K. but with sales of around 30k a year and the outgoing Ford Ranger consistently in the top 5 commercial vehicle sellers I can’t agree. Many have left the market for various reasons, which is a shame, but pickups are hardly on their way out - proven by this JV between VW and Ford… I suspect the pickup market will ‘pickup’ further…

      I really want one personally but they're just in the price range of not expensive but not cheap. Its a whole lot of functionality which is why I get the pricing but with today's cost of living its just not viable for me to get one.

    I was considering upgrading to an Everest SUV. However, there are just too may things it cant do that a ute (aussie here) can. I've ended up ordering the Ranger Platinum, which is even better spec'd than the wildtrack.

    I currently have the wildtrak prior to the face lift and I can say it’s been perfect for not only site work but for going away with family, all the bags and other items that you take away all sit perfectly in the back, yes the roller shutter isn’t 100% waterproof but what do you expect for something that slides and has to roll. I don’t know how something can be too premium inside, I think it looks amazing with the screen and the leather, it makes it easier to clean.

    Okay, The point of a pickup truck is obviously I work vehicle and or off-road vehicle but I think, like SUVs, most people use them for going around the city or the highway.
    I love an Everest because it's basically a Ford Ranger in SUV form.

    Mitsubishi pulled its cars including the l200 pick up out the UK market but Nissan,isusu,volkswagon and Toyota still sell their pick ups here,the ranger has a bad reputation for being unreliable,but all suffer from dpf and adblue issues and egr problems

    • @pliosaw
      @pliosaw 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nissan Navara also left, Isuzu's new truck is currently best seller and most popular right now. Only thing holding new
      Ranger back are the cheaper XL and XLT varients which are cheaper and more "constructiony" haven't landed yet over here and when they do, should get the sales up. There is talk of the F150 lightening potentially coming over in the near future and the Silverado EV could come to the UK with the return of a full electric GM Europe return. The new Wildtrak's price also doesn't actually seem worth it as it would be the same price to buy a Used 2016-2020 F150 for the same price after all the costs of getting it here which is bigger and tougher, but will cost a bit more to fuel up and insure.

    not mentioning the size of the bed on a picjuip review is pretty poor

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The bed is tiny (60"). Anything under 6.5 feet is very limiting. With the crew cabs you have to go to a HD pickup (F250+) to get an 8 foot bed.

    Leather finish is a disadvantage. You want something you can wipe down and chuck a cover on when it's beyond repair.

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends what you are using it for. Leather is nice in a tow vehicle, and it isn't that tough to replace the leather on the seats when it wears (Katzkins, Cover Craft etc). If you don't want leather, the XL and XLT are cloth.

      You won't find many vehicles that are sold in North America that don't have a screen. The US and Canadian regulators added a rear view camera requirement in 2018.

    The fact that Ford would continue with a niche car like this and cancel the Fiesta makes me p*ss; cars for the USA drives manufacturing!! Also, apologising for all the clichés is still lazy journalism.

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ford was averaging around 100,000 Fiestas sold each year in the UK. That isn't enough to make it worthwhile given that the profit margin is not that great on a Fiesta. Once sales started dropping in Europe (more options due to countries being LHD) the Fiesta was doomed.
