Those 4.3's sound like a V8 because they are literally the smallblock v8 with 2 cylinders chopped off. So it's a crossplane crank, 90 degree banks and it has uneven firing just like a V8.
Yes it shares the bore and stroke of a 350, I don't remember if the water pumps are interchangeable. No it's not an oddfire fire engine, hasn't been since the 80's. It cannot ever sound like a V8. Also they are 262 cubic inches

Probably the most V8 ish V6 I’ve heard so far on here. Have the new LV3 4.3 and want something that will give it a nice low tone. Slightly too loud of a set up for me but definitely best, deepest V6 set up I’ve heard.
I have a 96 Cheyenne 1500 with a 4.3 when I bought it from the original owner he had a 3xaust on it that was for a suburban and during the summer it rusted half off. So I cut the some bitch off and there was about a foot to 2 feet of original piping from he cat so the cat didn't get cut off. That truck was the loudest v6 I ever driven. People would tell me they could hear that little beast from a mile or two away. But wasnt ear rapping like some straight pipes can be.
That sounds amazing! Well done! I've only heard one other actually sound like a v8 and it was a v6 Ford Ranger Splash years ago. It's easy to get the idle to sound good but the rev up is always crappy.
I've got a '90 4.3 tbi with a high flow cat and a 3 inch single cat back to a 14" magnaflow and 3" tailpipe to out in front of the rear tire. It sounds super deep and throat and mean. About as close to a v8 as a v6 can get. The system increased power and mpg a fair bit too.
Matt Leonard unless you touched the headers or tuned the motor that exhaust didn't do shit to dyno numbers hate to break it to ya but bigger piping and a straight thru muffler will not give you gains in hp

I don’t have it anymore but I put a full accel ignition on it, advanced the timing a couple degrees, bumped the fuel pressure a little, got a throttle body spacer, K&n air filter, high flow cat, ported throttle body, injector pod spacer, all on top of all new engine spacers and fuel filter, spark plugs, cap and rotor, and good regular oil and filter changes. It ripped.
Sounds great at idle and when you Rev it up but the 4.3 stops sounding like that at the higher rpm under load in my experience. Post another video of it going through the gears if possible.
To my son in law Dillon: Only sounds like an 8 at idle. As soon as you crack the throttle it tells on itself right away with that high pitch cry. Just pony up the extra for the v8, it will never sound the like dads 5.0 missing 2 slugs LoL
The 4.3 is basically the same as a 5.7 v8 idles the same. Until you hit higher rpm it sounds like a v8. Once you hit above 1500ish rpms it gets the v6 drone. The 4.3 was the big block to v6 motors. Very good motor for a single cab short bed 2wd standard tranny s10
I'm thinking of doin stock headers or upgrading to headers straight 2.5" pipe true dual maybe high flow cats an sum 40 flowmatsers dump I kno the cat will help tame the raspy
Me, personally, I'd just put a turn down tip after the muffler so you don't have to deal with the glasspack sound when the engine brake kicks in after you let off the gas along with eliminating the out of place chrome hillbilly tips sticking out.
It sounds awesome and I don't think it sounds like a V8 just a very throaty and mean sounding V6 I love both V8's and 6's and always thought that V6's sound more race like. Nice job tho cool video.
A 90s 4.3 with original 40 series flowmasters sounds like a 350. Cuz it's a 350 with 2 cylinders chopped off, now the new 4.3 idk if it's a modern version of the old 4.3 or a 5.3/6.0 with 2 cylinders cut off

you can but it depends on what its on if its like a durango or dakota or jeep or something yeah. you can pretty much do what you want to with what you can afford.

Looks like your missing 2 cylinders under the hood. You could have had a real V-8 but it is what it is and sounds good at idle.
