- Check out this incredible custom exhaust that Kinney's Muffler Shop put on my Subaru WRX STI. This is the 5th system they have put on one of my cars and as always it came out fantastic. I never thought a 4 cylinder car could sound so good. What do you think about how it sounds?

This sounds really incredible. There's a huge difference between buying an online exhaust kit, and having a specialized exhaust shop make a completely unique exhaust that is best for your car. It truly is the art of mechanical engineering.
I've been trying to tell people this for years ....but cause I drive a honda ....well ....you know how that goes

It's due to the unequal length header... get an equal length and it loses that rumble

Great work.....I had some old timer do my mid delete on my cat.....he was amazing too....best part was when his friend, a guy with a walker, who looked to be 90.....pulled up in a highlighter colored ZL1....😃

I got the Street Demon installed on my Challenger the beginning of last year from Kenny's, and it still sounds great! Kirk is awesome at what he does for custom installations. Highly recommended.

I love when an exhaust guy is able to put some tips on properly. I've seen some custom systems before that were pretty dinky looking from having one tip straight and the other one be all kinds of lop sided.
Sounds very nice! I like my exhaust to also have the low growl exhaust noises as well and a custom shop where I live does a fantastic job on my vehicles. So much rather perfer a nice tone with slight performance than a full blown straight through with more performance but is obnoxiously loud. Good review! 😎👍

Is this type of (aggressive) sound not be able to be made on other 4 cylinders like the Toyota Camry XSE?
@@fullofpeace3486 Mechanically, it cannot without special exhaust headers. The WRX is a boxer engine, while the Camry is an inline engine, and given the engine bay size on a Camry there might not be enough room to fit unequal length headers that join cylinder pairs 1/3 and 2/4 to get the Subaru rumble/burble sound, and that requires some artistry to join cylinders that are not adjacent to each other. It also depends on if the XSE comes with a turbocharger considering its a sport model, though from what I can tell the 2.5L VVT-i engine is naturally aspirated given its 200 someodd horsepower. The EJ205 firing order is 1324 which basically means left, left, right, right, so there are two pulses on one header length and then two on another header length. The unequal lengths join the pulses into a larger one at near idle speeds giving the "Subie Rumble" that we all love, so its just a matter of matching the pulses and header length ratios from the EJ205 onto the Camry's A25A-FKS, or the 2AR-FE if its not the 2017+ models.
TL;DR, special headers if they can fit on non-turbo engine, unequal length runners join cylinder pairs 1/3 and 2/4, one pair needs to loop around before joining at the collector to give the pulses the right delay for the Subaru rumble.

Woo! That boxer rumble! I have the WRX with equal length headers and a full MAPerformance turboback exhaust...and I love the way it sounds. Subaru's boxer has a nice, beefy 4-cylinder sound for sure!
Yes agreed.. something about that header design gives it a really unique sound. Very happy with the result
Unequal length header is what causes that unique sounding “boxer rumble”. Equal length sound wise just doesn’t compare ☹️

A friend bought a 70 Road Runner 440 six pack off the show room floor. That car hooked me on Mopars. No cats till 1975.
Exhaust looks so much better! For a 4 cyl it sounds really good. Better than I thought it would. Now you can zip around with pride.

Love the sound and vid. I've been trying to get into the car/modding scene. I am doing a lot of research on first couple of mods and exhaust for my 13 GS350 RWD lately. As you said, I like the lower tone, throaty sound vs higher pithed. I stay in Dallas. Been looking for a muffler shop. I'm going to be stopping by. Thanks again keep up the great content!
Same problem I'm having with local exhaust shops is they use the cheaper bending machine that shrinks down at the bends. Put a caliper on a 90 degree section and it's about .25" smaller outer diameter than the straight section, killing flow so you end up with a bunch of noise for little to no power. Mandrel or piecut is the only way to go for performance.
I'm glad I came across your video. I skipped mostly through it to listen to the exhaust sound, but then watched the part of you talking to the owner. And to my surprise the shop is here in the DFW area! I will need to go check it out soon.
Kinney's does all my work. They rock. The best quality workmanship and they will work with you to get the exhaust tuned exactly the way you want it. BTW ... That thing sounds great!!!!!!
That's insane! It sounds like my Ford Explorer I had back in high school, which had a 4.0L V6 in it. Very deep, throaty sound.

Took delivery of my Brand New Ram 1500 today at AutoNation CDJR in Fort Worth and drove it straight to Kinney’s for the muffler delete. Same color as my WRX, love it. I did the exhaust on mine myself. I have the FA20 so it has equal length headers so no burble but it is loud! I did the grimmspeed turbo back with nameless muffler deletes. When I dropped it down and did a cold start I thought what have I done! A few years later I still love the sound, kinda sounds exotic.
Kirk & his crew do excellent work, watched many of his videos. Never a birdshit weld or a sloppy looking fit.

Sounds and looks great. After I saw this I knew this was the direction I wanted to go. Since I am local I called and the guy over the phone (aside from sounding put out he had to answer questions like "When can I schedule?" and "How much?") gave me a quote for a similar setup just 3" from DP to Y and it was double the cost of a name brand system for my car. I try to support local businesses that do quality work like this place but after the attitude and price had to look at other options. Hopefully, others have had a better experience.
I miss Fort Worth. Born and raised there until I graduated high school and moved to Illinois and it’s a lot more chill here and I feel like more open country roads to race on but idk it might just be me

Hard to find a muffler shop that does good work. Got my quad tips installed and they were all crooked and after they tried many times they still couldn’t get them right. I gotta find another place to get them redone. This shop is recommended by many in the car scene too.

It looks like the aftermarket muffler replaced the stock resonator.
I would say you could get a very similar sound if you put in some unequal length headers on your car and an aggressive straight through Muffler such as a Carven R muffler where the resonator is.

I don't know if the original road runner had cats or not. The exhaust was done at the shop so it sounded nice. Perhaps the drag van needs an upgrade lol... good stuff

I haven’t even finished the video, but just seeing the Plymouth exhaust I knew they were a great shop and put quality at top!.!.! Any one notice 👀 they actually painted the welds black where they were welded- not only that they taped around the piping to have a clean crisp black line to look flawless. Cuz I believe that to be a flow master- and most come black- and once welded the welds are raw looking and usually rust after just a little while. These guys went the extra mile to not only paint the welds black to resist rust- but actually taped them before painting to have a clean line rather than random over spray. 🤷🏻♂️ I tend to notice the details

Racer x is the street demon a straight thru muffler like magnaflow? You did not turn the muffler around to see inside it.
It’s not perfectly straight through.. I actually did not turn it on purpose because the owner asked me not to.. they have a very specialized design 👍
