    My evening skincare routine is basically the same as I’ve previously demonstrated. I decided to make this “update” video, however, since I’ve been using a few different products in place of my typical staples as I’m simply trying to use up some sample-sized products. When I’m finished using the samples of Retin-A Microsphere 0.08%, I shall resume maintenance treatment with my usual [generic] Atralin Tretinoin Gel 0.05%.

      Yeah I started when I was 23-24.
      Just make sure to use a high UVA (not just UVB) protection when you go outside and avoid the sun.
      Would also recommend a good moisturizer or occlusive. You can apply after 30 mins of applying retin-a

      @@elizabethsmith9624 oh no, dear.. Although i don't know Jennifer personally, i can assure you that she's definitely not having any kind of injection on her face. retin-A is a game changer girl!
      I already used retin-A/tretinoin 0,025% for 7-8 months-ish, gradually build up tolerance till now I'm using them 5 times/week on top of moisturizer. I used them for acne treatment at start, but let me tell you it changes my overall skin for good!
      I used to have acne all over my face, but now they all cleared up except on both of my cheeks (can't give up sugar n sleeping sideways yet), but my forehead, nose, chin, jaw, all clear!
      I'm 30 and already have crows feet at the side of my eyes before, but the GOOD SIDE EFFECTS from using tretinoin is that my crows feet was smoother, my pores seems smaller (coz i no longer deal w black/whitehead anymore), my complexion seems brighter, and i just only use it for 7 months!
      No wonder jennifer looks younger than me when she's been using retin-A for 15 YEARS!! 👍🏻
      Thank you jennifer for this routine, i use pure baby liquid soap since it works better on me than cetaphil (fungal acne free). ceraVe broke me out before, but then i realize i suppose to use them frugally in my humid country, since they moisturize like fountain of youth! 😅

      @@elizabethsmith9624 you just sound like someone who isn't familiar with tretinoin OR Botox and fillers. if you were more familiar with all of them then you would be able to see more clearly that Jennifer is very obviously a tretinoin patient. There are subtle visible differences in the way the skin appears depending on which treatments have been used and Jennifer's skin does not exhibit the subtle signs of Botox and fillers but she does exhibit collagen stimulation and high paced cell turnover due to tretinoin irritation.

    Hello Jennifer, one important advice for you and everyone: be cautious on rubbing your eyes in general (it can cause serious damages) but also to wash your hands before passing on the eye area. It may have not caused you any harm but it is dangerous if it penetrates into the eyes.

      Google User Try applying it on top of a fragrance free body cream such as the cerave moisturizing cream that comes in a tub container! I know dr dray a certified dermatologist that’s here on youtube suggests this method to cut down on the irritation that retin-a’s/retinols can cause on the skin. You can even do this on your face if it happens there also...just layer your moisturizer, let it dry down a bit, then apply retin-a! It won’t defect or block the retin-a from doing its job so don’t worry about that! 🙂

    • @mave143
      @mave143 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kivs3007 you DONT want to use the CeraVe in the tub! It contains petroleum, which actually does affect how well you absorb the retin a. Dr. Dray uses the CeraVe PM moisturizer under her retin a.

  • @Es3iya
    @Es3iya 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    My way is a bit different, i put tretinoin on top of moisturizer. I also use about half or max 2/3 amount that you use ( you use a big pea size lol :) ) It still works, as i still peel a bit occasionally, but very minimally with no discomfort, and my skin is still super soft and smooth (texture wise). I also apply only every other day (0.05). I do it as my skin is so thin (north european caucasian) that putting tretinoin first just oversensitizes it.
    Strangely i can put the whole peasize amount on the back of my hands with zero irritation. also 1/3 of peasize on my neck with no irritation as well :)
    Thank you for sharing your routine! We are all so different, i bet your skin is hella strong after 16 years of using it.

      @@blue3374 try to talk with your dermatologist about it, putting first a good moisturizer (like cerave moisturizing cream) and then after it has dried nicely, a pea-size of tretinoin will still work very well. Some dermatologist (like Dr. Dray on youtube) actually use tretinoin that way. It's better to use it that way than not at all :)

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Sometimes I do that. It depends on how my skin is feeling. I didn't mean to use the giant pea-sized amount lol but when you prick the foil top of this type of sample tube, a globule spurts out uncontrollably and I did not want to waste it, so on my skin it went.

    I love tretinoin (which was why I ran into you channel, but found so many other things to relate to later), if you allow me to give you some tips from dozens of scientific papers I've read on the subject: it is ok to use it on the eye area, it's a myth that it's not supposed to be used there, in fact in one article that I read the researchers said it should be applied in this area especially since it is the area which most responds to it (say goodbye crow's feet)... Other myth is that it's not supposed to be used in the summer, tretinoin is not phototoxic and it would be a especially good thing to use it (along with sunscreen of course) in the summer because it not only fix the past sun damage of the skin, it also PREVENTS new demage to occur, ie. it prevents the cell and molecular detrimental cascade that happens when the sun rays hits the skin... But I agree, after so many years it's not necessary to use it everday, I worked my way up to 0.1% after a couple of years (which was also found to prevent new damage better than the lower concentrations, though with more side effects), and now I think my skin has finally acclimated to it... Your skin is gorgeous, congratulations, I wonder if you ever suffered from acne or any other skin issues.

    Hey Jennifer! I just wanted to thank you, because you've completely changed my skin for the better. For years i've struggled with skincare, i was using so many brands and my skin would always be oily, yet really dry and damaged from the exfoliators that i'd use.. i had the occasional breakouts of pimples and stuff... it was a mess XD I started using the same cleanser and moisutizer as you, and i started with the Obagi 360 Retinol cream that you once recommended. I'm starting with this and will in the future ask for a perscription for a retinoid after my skin gets used to it. Anyway, thank you SO MUCH again for all the information. Also i'm using castor oil on my lashes and eyebrows since a few weeks, and i'm already noticing a difference. Not so much the length yet, but they just look more healthy. I do have some irritations from the Retinol cream (i do also use the obagi sunscreen that you have... i feel like a total stalker lmao) but that's normal right? I found a gentle cleanser that I use to get all the sunscreen and makeup off, it's the Simple Water Boost Micellar Gel Wash. I cleanse with it twice if I wear heavy makeup. The gentle cream cleansers like Cetaphil don't remove the mineral sunscreen well enough for me.

      I don't wear makeup, however if I have applied a water resistant sunscreen I use the Garnier Micellar Water prior to the Cetaphil. For everyday, Cetaphil is all I use.

    Hi Jennifer,
    Thank you so much for your videos! Your beautiful skin and natural beauty is an inspiration! I have been using tretinoin on and off, because my skin always eventually gets super sensitized and starts burning everytime I use any products. I realize this is the phase I need to push through in order to see results. I am going to start back on with a 0.05% tretinoin cream - would you say I should start 2-3 x a week? After how many weeks should I shift to every other day / every day usage?

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I suggest discussing it with your PHCP (or prescribing physician) so that together you may first assess your skin and lifestyle to determine whether you'd be a suitable candidate for using the drug (because not everyone's skin can tolerate it). From there, he or she will be able to guide you along the best possible course of treatment for your specific needs and goals.

      I started .05 tretinoin by using it just once a week for the first month ( moisturizer underneath and over top of it.) The next month I went to twice a week, third month 3 times a week and then increases according to how many side effects you are having. My only issue was occasional flakiness, particularly on my chin and mouth area. Patience really pays off with this product!

      If your skin cannot tolerate it, then you can discontinue usage until your skin calms down and try again (since you're not using prescription strength and only using an over-the-counter retinol, not a tretinoin product). Everyone's skin is different, and some people can't even tolerate OTC retinol.

    Have you tried tretinoin cream instead of the gel? If so, how did they compare for you?

    Question about the castor oil you use. Does it have more of an oil consistency, or more of a sticky consistency? The one I have is the Heritage Store Palma Christi Castor Oil, which is of the sticky variety. I've been doing castor oil since you posted the curling my eyelashes video. I think it's making a difference, but obviously it'll take time!
    Also, love all of your skincare stuff; its great to see actual long term use of products that we're told have benefits. I've been using Retin-A Micro (0.04%) on an off since the end of 2015, and became super consistent with it in the beginning of 2018 onward. I get so many compliments on my skin, even when there isn't even a speck of makeup on. I now also have no problem putting it on 6 nights a week (I reserve the 7th night for a acid treatment- the DCL Penta Peel is my holy grail)- I can put it around my mouth or the nasal labial folds with zero irritation. Obviously you have to build tolerance and see how your skin is doing, so I don't always have an active on every night. Good luck to everyone on their skincare journey!

    I do not know how you can use the castor oil on your eyes so liberally... I find that it really stings terribly both my eyes and my skin and I have to wash it off eventually as I cannot bear it. Is your oil diluted in a carrier oil or is it straight? I now apply to my lashes extremely minimally, but I still wake up with bloodshot eyes.
