My dread was realised upon viewing... at least I had time to mentally prepare. The end of the video showed us hope though so back to excited! Not to say your motor had this happen, but Ive seen a few project cars go boom from "run away boost" for whatever silly reason - Boost controller malfunction, CO2 for boost control empty, wrong decimal point, etc... and Ive always wondered if we can engineer in a "burst disk" type thing. Put a T piece on intercooler piping with a disk on it that WILL rupture and let the pressure out if it raises above a certain point, i.e. 30PSI. Yes, might be a pain to change every now and then, but easy and cheap compared to an entire engine. They use it in all sorts of critical pressure applications like pressure cylinders and reactors etc, surely it can be done here.
@@Omeshan motor definitely went boom from too much boost, but not from an overboost. It hit the targets I requested, those targets were just to aggressive for the 3 season deep junkyard stock engine to handle. Runaway boost on a gas engine sounds absurd, any halfway decent ECU will allow you to set a maximum boost level, and above that it kills fuel and spark. No fuel+spark, no combustion, no turbo spool, no boost.
@@wingman703 Ah well, heres to soon seeing all your targets met! I agree that boost safety in your ECU should be everything and all you need. Wondering if maybe they just put a big number as a target and after motor went boom, then the box of excuses came out? Anyway, we will never know, but we appreciate you. Seeing the ups and downs makes the story great. Will be awaiting the next high!
Oh no. I cant watch since i have to sleep to go SCUBA early tomorrow... but the dread will remain with me, even underwater, until i eventually get to watch the video.
Man, it sucks you had to go through all of that expense and hard work just to have the motor blow. On the other hand though, I'm stoked that you're going to give that car the built motor that it deserves.
4:36 is when the panic sets in. You dealt with it better than I would have.
5:44 Ah the joys of pushing your MX5. "Good thing it's light". Took the words outta my mouth
How did I just find this! I love your build man!

Holy shit man, that's a hell of a failure mode. Sorry dude. 😢
ALLLL THE BOOOST. Your K24 identified as a BP in this video
@@CadeMidgett BP would have blown up last episode when I started it the first time 😂
Getting shafted right at the beginning of the video is nuts
And the end, definitely a bummer, hope you get everything dialed back in

@@Doomburger7 Built motor was going to happen eventually anyway... Just wasn't planning on so soon 😆
Great videos! What was your tuning error specifically?
@@williamchandler6151 Too much boost to quickly combined with overly aggressive TC methods.
Yes but the axles survived!
@@DBatty You can thank Bronson for that!
too much "miata"...im quite scared.
