      Good news, new cinematic trailer should be showing up shortly. This week is the FF14 Fan Fest, where they'll likely tease out the next expansion. Not sure if it'll be a full trailer or a teaser, but you might enjoy it. :)

      They are really old and haven’t aged well… but you could do the trailers for 1-13. Yes it’s a lot but the early trailers don’t really do much. They don’t tell a story like the later ones do, but you get to see the foundations for which the newest stuff was built on.

      ff14 is an MMO unlike others in that above all, the story is the most important part of it, everything services it. All content goes through the story somehow. Raids have stories, dungeons are typically encountered during the story, even side stuff has a story. the reason all the fans love watching reactions is just because these trailers all hold incredible significance for us after having gone through it. Many cannot watch them without tearing up. That said, starting 14 is a very long process, since its story is above all other parts of the game, you are tasked with playing that story from its start to where it currently is including every patch release, which is a very long process. Long but depending on your love of fantasy worlds and their stories, very rewarding. Someone once called it more of an rpgmmo than an mmorpg, and I have to agree. If you are a fan of mmos and also a fan of extremely well planned out, written, and executed stories, you should consider trying it. and the entire fanbase will show up to watch you play it, so we can relive it through you. It's definitely a lot for some no doubt, but one of the very greatest stories I have ever had the privilege of experiencing, let alone being part of, as your character is always front and center as the Warrior of Light. I played WoW for over 10 years and eventually quit because the story was just thrown together just to get an expansion out it felt like, that never happens here. Either way, you got a sub from me, if you are a fan of music, you could consider reacting to some of the boss music from 14, as it is very very well done and the fanbase also loves seeing those kinds of reactions as well.

    A small detail: the same dude you saw in every trailer was a stand in for the player character. In FFXIV you can customize your character but he's meant to be a representation of you as you play through the game. That's why he changes to so many different classes.

    Fun fact, the first trailer was from the original release of the game. Due to problems with the game, the servers were shut down. The events of the second trailer were an in game event in the months leading up to the shut down. Mobs got harder, and the red moon got closer and closer. When the servers shut down, this trailer was released. Leading into the revamping of the game, which released as "A realm Reborn." which takes place five years after the events of the second trailer. So after trailer three, you get into the expansion of the base game. Each expansion trailer features the newly added "classes' or jobs added to the game at the time. The game is a very story driven MMO, Where most MMO's give you leveling experiences to get to end game. This one, gives you a story to keep you engaged with the game on your way to the end game.

    I've always loved the double meanings of some of the FFXIV expansions. For instance, Heavensward can mean toward the Heavens, as you pointed out, but it can also mean Ward of the Heavens, as in a warden who fights in the name of the gods.

    • @FirelighttheKing
      @FirelighttheKing 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      In this case, the double meaning actually comes from the 3rd possible meaning of ward: an administrative division of a local government. Thordan’s small Fanclub is called the Heavens’ Ward multiple times in game.

    26:60 That armor being intense is pretty much canon, yes... the people there wearing that style of armor, armed with spears, are called Dragoons. They are basically elite soldiers, trained in mid-air combat using aether(mana, if you will)-augmented jumps and dive attacks, specializing in fighting dragons. The reason their armor is so, pardon the pun, edgy, with lots of spikes and blades attached to it, is because they are so commited to killing dragons, if a dragon eventually swallows them during combat, they at least want to make it hurt the dragon just as much by ripping them up from the inside.

    Simple timeline, trying to keep things as generic as possible to avoid spoilers:
    Starts in a time of prosperity, but also war.
    Then big dragon comes out of the second moon, nearly wipes out all life on the continent. Important people including players 'teleported' to safety by wizard guy. Reason this isn't spoilers is because the game starts past this point now, the old version was nuked from orbit, rather literally.
    Five years later, folks have managed to rebuild their society for the most part, but things are still tough. Players show back up, they were actually transported through time.
    Keep watching brown haired guy, that's you. You do some stuff, are hailed as a hero, but as spoiler free as possible, ended up being ostracized, so you go to the Snow Kingdom and help the Snow Pope deal with the dragons.
    Then you travel the world, helping free different peoples from the bad guys with the mechs.
    And I can't even begin to explain the rest without spoilers, everything goes up to 12 real quick.

    The second trailer: The big, giant ball of fire is a fake moon called Dalamud. The ancient race of Allag killed Bahamut. His mate, Tiamat, was consumed by so much sorrow, she summoned Bahamut as a primal. Because of the circumstances and volatile emotions of the summoning, Bahamut returned as a shadow of pure hate and rage, so the Allagans managed to trap him inside of Dalamud and there he stayed, where his rage and hate festered until Garlemald let him out. This is the Battle of Cartineau. The old grandpa is Louisoix. He summoned the twelve gods of Eorzea in an attempt to re-trap Bahamut's primal, only Bahamut smashed it. Louisoix then received a vision from the gods and he became the primal known as the Phoenix. His primal was strong enough to destroy Bahamut, but at great cost. Louisoix took all the memories from those in Eorzea with the hope nobody would remember the Phoenix and summon him.

    You had a lot of great guesses! and you kind of hit the nail on the head. One of the greatest things about the game is that the lore, the characters, and the story lines are used and re-used to great effect. so you feel like it's one long story arc, which is very rewarding. think "game of thrones" rather than a monster of the week kind of storytelling.
    There's a ravenous fan-base of FF14 playthrough watchers that would eat up you, reacting and enjoying the main story quest, and associated raids/stories for each expansion. they're one long story, and it's quite chunky. something like 20-40 hours per release. 5 releases. You wouldn't need to edit the videos down, players literally just want to watch a playthrough in real time or in VOD form. i know it sounds wild, but a number of full playthrough channels have gotten a good viewership out of it. though understandably, not everyone enjoys MMO gameplay, or storytelling, or essentially reading an audio book to emotional vampires. but hey, if you try it and like it...it's not a bad hunk of content!
    If you do have any questions, myself, or really a number of people would prolly help you with answers/curation of what is suggested to experience. anyway have a great day!

    To kinda explain what he was in Shadowbringers at the end, it was a type of soldier called a Dark Knight. The job is focused around the idea that feelings have power because they focus the spirit, and taking strong emotions to refine them into released energy and attacks. The most common strong emotions felt by Dark Knights (including the newest recruits) are negative, for they manifest so readily; anger, hatred, spite, despair, the kind that cause a person to lash out. As you grow in power, you attain an understanding that the urge to protect others, your love for them, and the fear for what might happen to them or you can be harnessed.
    It is, oddly enough, the magical girl class.

    The first elf guy you see (Nyelbert) is not the same one as in the Shadowbringer and Endwalker trailers (Urianger). You also see a different catgirl in the first two (Renda-Rae) vs the last two (Y'shtola), though they both appear in the "New Beginning" trailer (Y'shtola is the one at the docks with the flower). It's always the same human guy throughout the trailers; he's the stand-in for the player character, though there's also an in-game version of him that you eventually meet. Actually, every important-looking character in those trailers shows up in the game at some point.
    Also, races:
    Elf -> Elezen
    Human -> Hyur
    Kitty -> Miqo'te
    Orc -> Roegadyn (He called them that, not me. :P )
    Halfling -> Potato... I mean, Lalafell
    Bun -> Viera
    Not really shown:
    Lizard -> Au Ra (Yes, I know Yugiri is in the Stormblood cinematic. :P)
    BIG cat -> Hrothgar

      Gotta admit, those race descriptions are pretty spot on. XD
      While it's never been confirmed or denied, I kinda doubt that the adventurers from Legacy/ARR trailers are supposed to be the same people as the characters you mentioned. Those characters are definitely based on them, but some story details in Shadowbringers seem to contradict them being the same people. At least the player stand-in doesn't seem to be exactly the same guy, based on what happened to his in-game counterpart (not to mention that we can see them interact in some trailers with in-game footage). That being said it wouldn't surprise me if the characters you mentioned are supposed to be "reflections" of those adventurers. Would be an interesting idea at the very least.

    The first half of the second trailer takes place 5 years prior to the events of A Realm Reborn (the game it is a trailer for, and also a scene that players of 1.0 got to watch the moment the servers shut down, IIRC) and the second half, starting with the moment the wizard has his "zen moment" is a cutscene that occurs right before the final boss fight of the content cycle, wherein the truth of what happened on that field is revealed to the heroes.
    The part in the third trailer where the warriors appear in the forest is where they arrived after being transported off the field by the wizard in trialer 2. 5 years after the events of that day.

    The time line in the first three trailers is: beginning, pre Garlean war. WoL (your character) has something called the echo and can get visions - he had one from the guild card, which is the first trailer (you can no longer play this game). Second trailer is the end of the original game. Full out Garlean War, and the fall of the Second Moon Dalamud (prison to Bahamut). Many died. They also remade the game from scratch, hence calling the next expansion A Realm Reborn. Third trailer is several years after the 2nd, showing how the world has changed and how your character was teleported by Louisoix (bad ass mentor wizard) to the future. All of the trailers follow the same character, Meteor Survivor, who represents your character. It's very cool to watch him mature and age in each one.

    I played from Alpha of FFXIV to 1.0 Original to the reboot that Yoshi-P successfully did in Realm Reborn, to the following expansions of Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and the latest one; Endwalker. From 1.0 Original to A Realm Reborn, they realized 1.0 was a failure and they brought in Yoshi-P to retool it completely. In the Realm Reborn trailer, you saw the red moon, Dalumud, and the summoning of Bahamut, that big ass dragon. That was the ending of 1.0. For a while at the end of 1.0, you saw the red moon in the sky and knew there was something coming. Then the original 1.0 legacy players saw that Realm Reborn trailer on 0 day, when the old servers where being taken offline and A Realm Reborn was being created and implemented. It's been a fun ride throughout the whole game and we're currently chugging along through the patches. Between each expansion are 2 yrs of patches, where they add new content every quarter until the new expansion drops. It's been a crazy 10 years since the reboot of Realm Reborn and have been loving it. Unique feature, after you hit your first 30 levels on your character, you can pick up and add new jobs just on your one character. Shadowbringers demonstrated that brilliantly during the trailer and the fight with the light creature. If you want to pick up playing, stick with it, make it through Realm Reborn and it starts progressing faster after that and won't be such a slog. We recently had a new patch and am having fun playing through the content.

    A lot of your guesses were spot on. Though the elf man from the very first trailer is NOT the oracle one in future trailers. The one in the first trailer is the full body garbed black mage from the early on party with the small healer. I think the last we see him in trailers in the A Realm Reborn one.
    Also the white hair'd cat women (Miqo'te race) is def not evil.
    ALSO also, the white haired Elezen oracle is in his mid to late 30s (the characters you see repeated throughout these all have canonical ages.)

    • @swaswj414
      @swaswj414 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Regarding age, it's actually hard to pin down simple ages, because most of them were only given official ages as of the start of ARR, and they're not the ages you'd guess: Urianger (the tall, white-haired elezen in black robes who features in the Shadowbringers and Endwalker trailers) was officially 29 as of the start of ARR. Time passage from then to the present time is unclear (intentionally, the devs want to keep it ambiguous), but definitely not late 30s. The events of all the expansions may have occurred within a year or two in-universe.
      Thancred, the white-haired hume with the revolver-sword, is actually older than him by 3 years, being 32 at the start of ARR.
      The oldest member of the main Scions group is actually the lalafell (halfling), Papalymo, who was 42 at the start of ARR.
      As of the start of ARR, it's stated that Y'shtola (the white-haired catgirl) claims to be 23... but you meet her younger sister who is 26, and certain statements about past events suggest she's closer to Thancred's age. Everyone's just too afraid to bring it up with her.

      @@swaswj414 Time doesn't pass at all in game unless it is specifically stated to have passed. It's running on cartoon logic where you just don't think about or question it. So all of the characters are still the same age as when we met them, meaning the twins are forever 16 unless a time skip occurs. As for Y'shtola, it's not so much that she lies about her age, but that she stopped aging at 23 (the Realm Reborn Ultimania guide makes mention of that once she started her training with Matoya as a child that "The hands of time forever stopped on twenty and three" when she emerged). So physically she is 23. Biologically there's no telling.

    And to give context to the 'old Wizard' killing the dragon. That 'biggest spell glyph ever' was in fact the biggest glyph ever. The man's staff was special and collected all the ambient energy to use for the spell. But when the spell failed the magic that was now concentrated, but now loose, spread over the world. It then listened to the prayers of everyone. To be saved, for the world to rise from these ashes. To be reborn. When the old wizard collected the magic once more with his staff and jumped to attack the dragon he became those prayers. And rose as the Mighty Phoenix.

    So 14 is like a melting pot where they include all elements from each Final Fantasy, while also giving it its own unique story. Where we start in 14 definitely has medieval vibes, but it evolves beautifully from there

    Heh, GW said "This man is just having the worst day.", that could be a tagline for the FFXIV campaign along with "And then it got worse" and "These guys just can't catch a break."
    In the first cinematic, the group is just starting out on their adventuring life, and the player insert character is having/being granted a vision of the group sometime later when they've become very experienced and are killing a Malboro, a traditional high-level Final Fantasy monster that is dangerous not only because it has lots of HP and high damage attacks, but that its breath attack applies every status effect possible. The dragon army we see is led by the largest one that sinks the giant red battleship, Midgardsormyr. Dragons in FFXIV are effectively space aliens because Midgardsormyn fled from his homeworld with the last 7 eggs and flew across the void of space for an almost untold amount of time, until finally arriving on Eorzea having expended nearly all of his energy, the version of him that sinks the ship in 3 blasts in the emaciated, drained nearly corpse form that he assumed toward the end of his flight. You fight a...memory of his original self later, it's kinda terrifying and one of the most mechanic-heavy non-Savage raids in the game. Finally, before the vision ends, the entities that emerge from the column of light are the Primals, also called EIkons by the Garlean Empire(the people who built the ship), they are chaotic incredibly destructive personifications of the various elemental forces such as fire, earth, wind and so forth, they play an essential role in the campaign in the future both in 1.0 and A Realm Reborn(2.0) and beyond.
    The next cinematic is called "The Flame of Truth" and it's out of sequence. The original 1.0 finale cinematic stops when Louisouix is killed as the screen fades to white. As others have said, this was what played when the 1.0 servers shut down after a world event last weeks building up to the battle that takes place in the cinematic. "The Flames of Truth" is part of a raid series where the Warrior of Light, being immune to the Primal's mind control, is drafted to enter Bahamut's final resting place and determine if it's possible to actually finish him off or not. You discover Louisouix or the being that used to be Louisouix reborn as the Primal of Rebirth, Phoenix standing guard over the pieces of Bahamut being reassembled by the still functioning prison that was inside Dalamud(the red moon from the beginning) you have to fight him because while the goddess Hydaelin's Gift grants you immunity to the Primal's mind control, apparently other Primals are not immune. The actual next cinematic is called "Answers" and reprises the finale from 1.0 and includes the segment where the player standin and his party arrive in a green and verdant world some years after the climatic battle and they all ride off on chocobos, the dude in the black armor is the Primal, Odin and his steed Sleipneir, and the monster in the snow is called Behemoth, another traditional FF boss creature. GW is right when he says it felt full of hope and possibility, YoshiP and his team had done the impossible and resurrected a game that was dead when it launched and transformed it into one of the greatest MMOs of all time and in the top 3 Final Fantasy games ever.
    As we go into Heavensward which, more than the other expansions, is a direct continuation of the story coming out of A Realm Reborn, the Sultana is dead, her bodyguard(the huge black guy) is literally disarmed while attempting to stop the people who are conducting the coup and imprisoned, and the Scions(the WOL and their friends) have been framed for the Sultana's death and have to flee for their lives during which the Scions all sacrifice themselves in one way or another to buy time for the Warrior of LIght to escape the Three Kingdoms of Eorzea to the frozen northern Kingdom of Ishgard, itself in turmoil as their thousand year long war with the dragons is coming to a head.
    The Stormblood expansion continues the story, but it's a bit lighter. The coup in Thanalan has been resolved, the Scion's reputation has been restored and the Garlean Empire has started to move again. However, there is less political intrigue and the story is a little bit more back to adventuring, at least for a while.
    Shadowbringers brings the overall meta story into total focus and informs the players of the actual stakes involves. They fight not for Kings and Kingdoms against rabid elementals and imposing empries from across the ocean, but they have been battling gods whose only goal is to destroy not just your world, but all worlds in their mad quest to reclaim something that is lost forever. It actually mostly takes place on the First, one of the 13 mirror worlds of your own Prime, which has become imbalanced toward the Light.
    And as we come finally to the Endwalker, it's important to understand that this expansion represents a conclusion to the saga that has been playing out since "A Realm Reborn" and as such, it recalls visually and musically, each expansion while also setting the stage for what is to come. Something you don't notice on the first viewing, but the character of Urianger is the narrator, and when they released Heavensward they had to change all the voice actors for...reasons, but during the portion of the Endwaker trailer that represents A Realm Reborn, they are using the original Urianger VA, Gideon Emory, and then when they switch to the Heavensward segment and onward, they use the current VA, Timothy Watson.

    This is a spoiler free mention on the trailers and how certain aspects reflect in the game.
    The first trailer was for the version of the game when it was unplayable with performance issues and bad game systems and they ended its service for a short while with the world ending event you see in the first part of the second trailer.
    (Check out Speakers of the Realm short episodic documentary series called The Fall and Rise of Final Fantasy XIV to know more on how bad it really was then check out NoClip's Final Fantasy XIV documentary as well to know how bad things were behind the development and how it was brought back from the brink.)
    The Flames of Truth and A Realm Reborn trailers was for the newer version of the game and they kept in the world ending event in the games story as cannon and throughout the story you will learn more of that event and how it happened, this works so players who played the first version of the game remembers the events while new players who never experienced that part of the game will learn about it as they progress more into the world and lore.
    (like i promised about keeping it spoiler free, you know it happened, you seen it happen but didn't know how or why it happened)
    Something you would have noticed from the trailers is the protagonist changed roles from Archer (which is Bard but original version did not have a Job class system which is their upgrade), Warrior, Dragoon, Monk, Samurai and during the Shadowbringers trailer the protagonist changed into them in chronological order of appearance before becoming Dark Knight, this is also cannon to the games mechanics as you can play all classes as one character without needing to make new characters to try out new classes.

    Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but the guys jumping in the spiky armor in the Heavensward trailer are called 'Dragoons'. Elite dragon-killers who basically use gravity to kill dragons because their scales are just so tough, they leap high in the air and then drop ontop of their enemies. The armor being spiky has a practical reason, for when they get killed and eaten... if that does happen, the spiky bits of their armor is supposed to rip and tear itself through the innards of the dragon dumb enough to try and eat a dragoon. Like the worst and most painful dump in your life.

    Honestly, your guesses weren't bad at all! These trailers were created with the expectation that players would understand the context due to the sprawling Main Story of the game. That said, I hope some of this basic-level context helps:
    1) The first trailer was from FFXIV 1.0, literally the very beginning and a way to try to draw people to the game. It drew heavily upon visuals from the last Final Fantasy MMO to try to transition the player base to the new game.
    2) The second trailer came as the game was doing Very Poorly. Subs were down. The game had LOTS of problems. This was an attempt to rally the player base to try and continue, but also mirrored an "End of the world" style feel.
    3) Realm Reborn was after the devs decided to basically rework the game from (almost) scratch and start over. Hence the more upbeat feel post-teleportation from the mentor who sacrificed himself against Bahamut (the Dragon from the previous trailer). This was literally the game attempting to be reborn (and it succeeded)!
    4-7) These are the following expansions after the Realm Reborn reset, and yeah you can see the overall increase in quality over time, especially the jump with Shadowbringers.
    There's a LOT of the same characters recurring. The "guy" we see through every trailer is a stand-in for the Player character. The group who tried to create the giant confinement spell on Bahamut are actually the same group who show up later. The Elf, the Catgirl and a few others are literally in the second trailer and pop up throughout others. The guy with the gunblade (a class called Gunbreaker, which is one of my favorites), is the guy who was praying at that temple in the third trailer, and is also one of the group from the 2nd. They are recurring NPCs who you work with throughout the game. And no, the Catgirl doesn't turn Evil. She's just tired of bureaucrats ignoring the world literally coming to an end.
    One detail you probably missed - and understandably so on a first viewing - but the music from Endwalker is its own song, but mixed with reprises of the music from the previous trailers. Which, for a music lover like me, is SO awesome.
    I hope that helps!

    ff14 another thing contains references from past ff games. one being that crystal tower you see is from final fantasy 3. the song played in the shadowbringer trailer in that settlement around the tower is Eternal Winds, a well known song from ff3. many versions of that song exist from the original snes track, the orchestrated one used in the op cinematic of the remake for nintendo ds then ff14 versions of iconic track.

    For context in the original trailers.
    The first one you saw was the 1.0 trailer. Nothing special.
    The second trailer you saw was actually the termination of the game for 1.0. At the end of it announces to stay tuned for Realm Reborn, which would be 2.0
    The third trailer, the part where the old wizard sacrificed himself, wasn't actually part of any of the trailers but rather a cutscene you'd get in the raid series Coils of Bahamut, where you investigate the aftermath of that fight and find out why Bahamut just straight up disappeared and the fate of that old man. Spoiler warning, the dragon survived, so we had to finish the job before he completely recovered.
    The fourth trailer is the official announcement trailer for Realm Reborn.
    Each trailer after that is for their respective expansion trailers.
    The main character you see in each trailer represents our characters in 14. At the start, he's an archer. Then in Realm Reborn, he's a warrior. In Heavensward, a dragoon. Stormblood, a monk and samurai. Shadowbringers with Dark Knight, and Endwalker with Paladin. The last two heavily references a big plot point in FF4.
    Archer is just about what you'd expect. In Realm Reborn, they can become a bard which supports their party with musically empowering effects, using their bow like a harp.
    Warriors uses the primal rage to fight. There is a special training to harness this power. Those found wanting are controlled by their rage, becoming a rabid animal that needs to be put down, commanding colonies of animals to attack civilization. This tank is known for being too angry to die, and is heavily memed on being the best healer in the game.
    Dragoons, the one with the sick armor, are elite lancers tasked to do one thing, and one thing very well: kill dragons. Their signature ability involves them jumping high into the air, and falling down on their foes with great impact. For these guys, it's victory or valhalla. Fun fact: their armor is designed so that in the event they DO get killed by the dragon, they'll kill the dragon on the way out. The tankiest DPS job in the game, this class is extremely effective and simple on what they can do. The challenging bit of their job is that ALL their jump attacks are telegraphed, meaning they are VERY prone to dying: whether it'd be messing up mechanics or yeeting yourself off the platform. This job has an identity of being a floor tank with how easy it is to get yourself killed... In 11, another MMO before this one. This dragoon inherited the floor tanking meme, although Square took steps in making them easier to use.
    Monk is a fisticuffs class. They forgo weapons in favor of speed while keeping the same sort of attack power. For every sword strike, they trade in 3 equally powerful punches. The monk is a near extinct class due to a tyrant of the dark side of the 7 chakras wiping out the light side of 7 chakras in his bid of power, royally fucking over both sides of the school. A monk's training is only complete when they unlock all chakras within their bodies. This job has an extremely high skill ceiling where their power output can rival a Black Mage, but only if you can keep up with the upkeep.
    Samurai is one of the new classes added into the game. They top the damage charts, but provide no party ultility whatsoever. An extremely selfish class. They are a melee casting class, where while slow all their strikes are very devastating. Other than that, it's self explanatory what a samurai is.
    Dark Knight was actually a class added in Heavensward. It's a job thought to have gone extinct over it's heretical practices, harnessing your dark side to command a terrible power. The only thing keeping them from completely turning is the love they hold in their hearts, the entire reason why they'd picked up such a dangerous fighting style to begin with. Even in death, a Dark Knight will continue to fight for what they value most. The only thing scarier than a Dark Knight with purpose is one without a purpose. This tank offers the greatest DPS and damage mitigation.
    A Paladin is your typical magical tank that can heal their allies. Originally an elite guard, you'd become a freelancing Paladin offering your shield and holy powers to whomever you deem fit to protect. The best supporting tank where their protection means they can take the hit intended for their allies, or to spawn in a holy wall to shield your entire party from impending doom. A complete 180 from Dark Knights. The dark knights wield a dark and terrible power to combat all foes to beyond the last breath, while a Paladin commands holy power and inspires their allies to keep fighting.

    The 'magic' cards as you called them at the beginning are pretty much job offers, called Guildleves. They represent jobs people need you to do. In this case, it was get rid of that marbol (The big ugly plant critter). Sure, it's a bit over the top for a job application, but part of that is because of an ability your character and others have called the Echo.

    As a FFXIV player, I didn't know anything about FF prior to playing XIV. I had played SWTOR and I started FF not long after Heavensward came out, but as someone new to multiplayer games and a game that wasn't from Bioware I was confused with the setup so I didn't play long. I did return in 2019 and started a new character, who is nearly caught up to current content, I just have the newest 8 man raid to do and I'll be all caught up.
    FF has a great free trial, which I wish they had when I first started, but you can play A Realm Reborn and Heavensward (up to lvl 60) for free. So, you can level all the classes to 60, do the MSQ to 60, side content, do the crafting & gathering jobs to 60. There are more things to do I'm sure, but those are the main highlights. Anyway, that's just in case anyone was interested. Make sure to go directly to Square Enix's site to signup and download the trial, I highly suggest not going through Steam. Anyway, loved the reaction!

    As for playing the game - try the free trial. It has its restrictions (mostly thanks to the RMTs), but it's pretty darn generous. There's a level cap, a gil (currency) cap, you cannot trade with/buy and sell other players, and you cannot join a Free Company (guild) nor use Retainers (banks). You do, however, have access to every class/job available and you can level all of them on a single character.
    That being said, it has no time limit, and includes both the base game (A Realm Reborn) and the first expansion (Heavensward). Once the next major patch hits this Fall, it will also include Stormblood. Even as it is now, that's hundreds of hours of playtime if you just sit back and enjoy the ride. Please consider giving it a shot!

    The beholder looking enemy is a type of staple monster(enemy that appears in most of the games) known as a Malboro. They are a menace, known for having breathe that can cause multiple status issues simultaneously on your entire active party. That can hit pretty hard, too. And the afflictions can even cause you to lose literal control, like the entire party being berserked and blinded.
