Actually there are TWO realm reborn trailers.
This one dont include part that describbe what happened with dragon.
Basically Old man teleport everyone who was on that battlefield a little bit in the future, and then he died goddes of this world give him last chance to use his life for one last strike against dragon.
Dragon died (almost) but his ultima spell still scorched half of the world. And then people who got teleported came back already after this catastrophe.

The war and dragon destroying everything was the cinematic played at the final moments of Final Fantasy 14 version 1.0 as they took the game offline forever. There is a very good documentary about the almost failure of Final Fantasy 14 and it's rebirth under a new manager, Naoki Yoshida ( also known as Yoshi P) and music composer Masayoshi Soken. The dragon, Bahamut, literally destroyed the 1.0 game, and after a massive crunch by the team they redid the game entirely as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, or Final Fantasy 14 patch 2.0. The mage at the end basically cast time magic to save everyone from the destruction.

      1)ARR
      2)HW
      3)StB
      4)ShB
      5)EW
You can't really count 1.0 as an expansion since that was the base game, so that'd only count up to 5 total. Also, the reason nobody considers ARR an expansion is because there's no access to what came before. That said, imo ARR is more like a _sequel_ to 1.0 than an _expansion_ seeing as it replaces it as the new base game.

The initial cinematic with the dragon is how they ended 1.0, as a failed game, they decided to reboot the entire game, and used the Final Fantasy staple Bahamut to do so. There is the missing part of what happens during the calamity behind the first raid tier, called Flames of Truth. 2.0 picks back up after the calamity once things have been rebuilt a bit to be as spoiler free as possible. There is an amazing NoClip documentary on the story behind the realities of rebooting the game.

This game is something else. It is, by FAR, the best story I have ever experienced in any game EVER. There is no comparison. Not with other Final Fantasy games, not with Mass Effect, not with Bioshock, not with anything. Even if you aren't into MMO's, you should play this game for the story alone. I literally cannot praise it enough. It's even more impressive that it's an MMO, and MMO's aren't known for having great stories or storytelling. I got my friend into this game when I got into and we played it together a lot as well, and he has never played a Final Fantasy game or even cared to try one before that, and he has the exact same opinions as me about this game.

The only problem with this is getting through ARR. I quit ARR at 4 different occasions before I reached level 50 near the release of endwalker. The story in ARR is not good enough to get through the absolutely horrendous gameplay that is levels 1 to 50.

The thign about playing this, somewhat casually, is the time needed to invest in it. The story is hundreds of hours long, and you know anyone who starts it would spend just as long on side content. Just have to prepare him for "if you're gonna start, aim to be in it for the long haul"

I played FFXIV up until Stormblood years ago. After seeing this trailer a few months ago, I just had to play it again and started over from the beginning. The visuals, the music, the emotion, the community, even the developers... it's so good. You have to look up the story about how this cutscene leads from the old, not well received game into A Realm Reborn. That alone is so incredibly well done. You also have to keep in mind that this is 10 years old at this point. And this song is fantastic, too.
I'm now in the final patch of Endwalker, and the story is so fantastic. I keep watching reactions to the story (particularly Shadowbringers), because it's so good. I'm actually thinking about finishing the game again with my old character.
If you have the time, play this game. It's an MMO, but 90% of it can be played as a single player as well, and the story will get you invested more than any other game. I have cried so much playing this!

@@GOTGames It may be both hard and easy to get into. Easy cause it does a lot of handholding, it's great for someone just starting to play an MMORPG as it really eases you into the gameplay. Hard if you expect it to start out as epic and exciting as the trailer you just watched. Don't get me wrong - it does definitely get to that level of epicness and excitment as you proceed further into the story. However it does have a slow start and if you get easily bored, you may drop it before you reach the really good parts. It really pays off though with one of the best, maybe even -the- best, story experience a game can offer.

There's a extended version which shows the result of the mage/dragon battle. It was a cinematic that played during one of the final raids (endgame content) for the 2.0 version of the game. Short explanation is the mage used time magic to send the warriors of light (player characters represented by those warriors) to the future, his magic also ends up wiping peoples memories. If you were in the game during the final 1.0 moments then when you start 2.0 you warp in like they did at the end of the trailer whereas everyone else who wasn't has a standard opening scene.

I’m sure others have explained it but this trailer really sets the scene very well. That dragon was supposed to end the world. The elf mage (named Louisoix) teleported those warriors from the battle, to 5 years into the future. Somehow the dragon didn’t destroy the world and no one really knows why. No one can even remember clearly the names or faces of the warriors of light (the group that got teleported to the future). All they know is Louisoix and the warriors of light stopped the world from getting destroyed. The first part of the game (before the first expansion) is finding out how Louisoix and the warriors of light saved everyone.
The reason the warriors that got teleported didn't seem upset, is because they can tell they're in the same place but the battle is long since over. They're overjoyed that the world is still there and seems to be healing.

The story of FF14 is just one EPIC event after another. Every single expansion begins with a bang and ends with a bang that leaves you so hyped for more!
The character arcs, and the story progression are the best of any game I've played before IMO.
I hope to see you react to the rest of the FF14 trailers.
Each expansion has its own trailer, the one you watched was for A Realm Reborn aka FF14 2.0 and sets the stage for where the story picks up for new players.
I just love how you start out as a nobody adventurer, and end 7.0 as a hero the entire world knows as the "Warrior of Light", savior of the planet!
If you do ever decide to check out the game, keep in mind that the game is MASSIVE, with all the expansions currently out just going through the main story alone is probably ~150 hours or so if you speed through it ignoring any side quests. Once you add all the side quests there's easily 1,000 hours of game content in there. And while not every side quest is of the same quality of storytelling as the main story line, there are quite a few side stories that have long lasting pay-offs as well and are in their own way amazing, emotional, funny, thrilling, or all of the above.
Oh, and what happened in the video is not entirely clear because you're supposed to piece it together during the game story. But basically Luoisoix, the old guy with the staff sent everyone away and remained behind alone to battle the dragon. He essentially pulled a Gandalf/Balrog "you shall not pass" thing. No one knows what happened, the dragon (Bahamut) disappeared from the battlefield, as did Luoisoix, all they were able to find was the broken pieces of his staff (Tupsimati - yes, the staff is a named item). Then the story picks up 5 years later, as the world moves on from the Calamity (as they came to call it), there is a strange hole in everyone's memory of the events that transpired on that day. No one can recall the faces or names of the heroes who fought against Bahamut. And while there's still widespread destruction, the rebuilding is well underway but there are still many scars left on the world. Entire regions of the world had the climate permanently shift as a consequence, mountains were leveled or new mountains thrust out where there were none before, that sort of thing. Previously fertile lands, in some places, became frozen tundra.
I hope this gives you a little bit of a clarification.

I have very vivid memories of seeing this cinematic for the first time and crying.
Knowing what it means; having all the context after years of playing this game... It never fails to get me emotional. Both the ingame lore and the real world circumstances.
For some context you need to know that when FFXIV originally came out, it had issues. A lot of them. To the point where no matter how good the story was, it was barely playable. So the dev team made a choice to end the game as it was and remake it completely new. The first half of this trailer was seen for the first time when the original servers shut down; playing the cinnematic before everyone was kicked off. It was the culmination of everything everyone in the world had fought for.
The second half of this cinematic came together with the re-launch of the overhauled game and was "A Realm Reborn".
As for your question on whether the game is just as epic: Yes. 100% yes. It starts of slow; as it builds the world and the characters and the story but the further you go the more amazing it gets. It's not all cgi cutscenes the entire time to this level, but in terms of how it feels? Yes.

The 1.0 version of the game was received quite poorly and the game almost fell apart before Naoki Yoshida stepped in and took over the project, won back the trust of FF and MMO fans alike, and turned it into the most profitable FF game ever made. This storyline played out in game, where the Eorzean Alliance and the Garlean Empire were battling at Carteneau, and you could see Dalamud (big red moon that breaks open in this cinematic to release Bahamut) in the sky when playing, while this song "Answers" was playing quietly on loop in the background. The devs incorporated the closure of the 1.x servers into the story, and had it so as soon as the servers went down, this cinematic played for everyone. There's footage of all this in-game stuff on youtube that is really cool to watch, if you search "ffxiv last moments of eorzea", you'll find it and can skim through it on your own time.
As for what happened with the teleporting shenanigans, the "king wizard" dude (Louisoix) teleported the group 5 years into the future, which is when the 2.0 storyline begins, after the world has begun to heal from the destruction brought about by Bahamut, which is shown in the second half of this cinematic. As for how the world wasn't completely destroyed, there's another version of this cinematic called "Flames of Truth" with an extra bit at the end (about 5:30 into the video to skip the parts you've already seen) showing how Louisoix stopped Bahamut, which players got to see after defeating the first raid series of the 2.x game, "The Binding Coils of Bahamut".

Basically, this is two cinematics spliced together. The first one is the cutscene displayed as the original game's servers were taken offline for good. Basically, the old man (his name is Louisoix) teleports the heroes away before facing his and the realm's imminent doom. The second cinematic was added for the 2.0 trailer and shows the heroes arriving five years in the future. They find the land has mysteriously recovered somehow, though no one can recall how exactly it happened (the truth is revealed during the 2.0 endgame raid series, The Coils of Bahamut - see the "Flames of Truth" cinematic for spoilers). Its inhabitants are still recovering from the calamity five years prior, while struggling with constant threat from elemental monsters called primals, as well as the invading forces of the Garlean empire. Not to mention the shadowy faction which orchestrated the whole calamity in the background. Thus begins A Realm Reborn.

What happened in between those two trailers is explained in-game; despite how it looks, it's not a plothole. to help explain some of the confusion that happened when we cut to happy scenes.
There are a couple of version of this cinematic that are mostly identical, this one is the trailer for FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. It shows the entirety of the cinematic (the version called "End of an Era") that played when the 1.0 version of the FFXIV ended and they started preparing to relaunch as A Realm Rebborn. This version, A New Beginning, shows all of the End of an Era cinematic then continues by following the characters that were teleported, hence the happy bit that teases some of the new things that make up A Realm Reborn.
The last version of the trailer is call "Flames of Truth" and yet again shows all of the End of an Era cinematic but then continues to show the mage's experience after he teleports the other characters away.

1:20 you don't have to to understand 14. Each FF game is a story in itself, they rarely connect, reference maybe.
So to put this into perspective for you on this vid, it happens after the original FF14 1.0 came to an end. That is right it ended, the original game was such a flop that people were fired, they killed it, burned it to the ground literally, and remade it from scratch and that is how you get the current game. Yoshi-P pulled a genius move and actually included it into the story too. So This trailer first played the day the servers went down on 1.0, there was that "moon" in the distance that slowly got closer and then anyone who was on the server the day of shutdown, got this trailer as it closed for the final time. Shortly after 2.0 A Realm Reborn came out and this is our introduction as well, followed by the second part as a reintroduction, that starts around the 9 min mark in your vid. After that you have Heavensward 3.0 (free to play up to this point btw), Stormblood 4.0, Shadowbringers 5.0, and Endwalker 6.0 current expansion, also the last in this story line supposedly.
Game turns 10 years this year, give it a shot man.
PS: If you dont know which class you want to start, check out JoCat's vids on 14 roles, they are funny and educational. or I can just narrow it down for you.
DPS - your job is do damage lots of it - Lancer, Pugilist, Rogue (technically not a starter but you can pick them up early in Limsa) are your up close and beat you in face dps classes, lancer and pugilist have more skills that are based on your orientation to the enemy aka from back or side to do bonus. Archer and thurmaturge are the ranged and magical starters, and summoner which starts as arcanist but splits into two classes so I will list the advanced you get at 30 instead of the base for that one, just know arcanist is little odd because it levels 2 classes at once. These are available but you can not start as these so consider them later if you want: Samurai, Reaper, Machinist, Dancer, Red Mage
Healer - your job is keep the party alive... and do some damage as able - Conjurer or Scholar (the other arcanist split class) basically do you like pure big healing or do you like more mitigation through shields. Astrologian and Sage are available later and are also heal vs shield heals for preference with some more steps, lot of people love sage btw.
Tanks - your job is turn on the tank stance and make everything more angry at you by doing damage - Gladiator or Maurader, sword and shield or axe smash you in face style. Both are pretty comparable early, later they differentiate a lot though, if you like more utility gladiator will become paladin and has some holy magics, maurader will become warrior aka AXE REALLY SMASH YOU IN FACE NOW! Dark Knight and Gunbreaker are not usable in early game but are there later, both are more dps style of tanks honestly, can be fun, harder to play.

"Answers" is basically the Theme Song to the entirety of the game, from ARR 2.0 all the way up to Endwalker 6.0. It is played many, MANY times in the game in various different forms, a lot of times it's just the melody without lyrics, or sometimes the lyrics are sung in a haunting way, quiet with lots of echoes (especially during the "Halloween" event called The Rising). Anybody aspiring to play XIV should look up the lyrics and learn them, they are very powerful lyrics, and have deep philosophical meaning in them, and the song just fits the whole game and all of its expansions at once, *AND* each expansion individually.

The short version, without spoiling anything, is that after attempting to seal the dragon away, the old wizard guy teleports those characters (who represent the players of the original version of the game) 5 years into the future, at a time when the realm of Eorzea is still rebuilding and recovering from the events shown here, and nobody in Eorzea really knows what happened after the events you see in the first half of this trailer, or even why they don't remember. The current version of the game starts off here, 5 years after this Calamity.
To find out what actually happened, you'd have to play the level 50 Coils of Bahamut raid questline in FFXIV.

It's still the same realm that the battle took place in. The place of the battle was scarred beyond recognition, signaling the end of one era, and the beginning of the next. I'd go into more detail but the information is voluminous. Note that the dragon (Bahamut) actually destroyed a portion of the seafront city, called "Limsa Lominsa." The land, Eorzea, seems to go through a continuous cycle of destruction and rebirth like this.

Ok here's the rundown. Final Fantasy 14 is a Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game "MMORPG." The first Expansion is what we call Final Fantasy 1.0 it came out back in 2010. The director at the time and the programmers pretty much made it SUCK as a game, but many die-hard fans pushed through and kept playing. The company "Square Enix" that hold the rights to the Final Fantasy franchise was losing a crap ton of money and so fired the director and hired another one by the name of Naoki Yoshida. This man revamped the whole game and saved it by redoing pretty much the whole game in terms of programming new things into it. Such as better movement, better character animations, fights, story elements ect. So the cinematic you saw is how Square Enix introduced all the Final Fantasy 1.0 players to not only a new expansion of the game, but to Final Fantasy 2.0 also called it "A Realm Reborn," which was pretty much Square Enix stating *"Hey we fixed the game, it's awesome, fans check us out, give our game another shot and see how much better it is. Oh and give us your money."*
As for the whole fight in the cinematic you need to know a few key things. One of them is in this games lore/history there are things called an *"Astral"* era and an *"Umbral"* era. When that era's civilizations are peaceful and developing that particular era of history is called its *Astral era*, but when things get chaotic and civilizations begin to war with each other as well as collapsing that era is coming to an end, aka its *Umbral* era where afterwards and new era will eventually begin.
In the game there have been 6 eras and the battle you saw was at the 6th eras Umbral state. In 1.0 there are nations of various species who can wield *Magic* and they are coming under siege by a Nation of people who cannot use magic but are capable of harnessing it and using it via means of technology. What needs to be noted is that in Final Fantasy 1.0 there are two moons (A white one which we don't know the name of, and a red one called *Dalamud*) A super bad dude discovered a secret of the red moon Dalamud and tries to pretty much crash it into the planet but unbeknownst to them it houses a dragon named Bahamut.
In the game you customize a character via species/gender/height/name/ect... Though all players who play the story will be referred to as the "Warrior of Light." The Warrior of Light solves problems and fights all manner of bad guys, monsters, and even pseudo-gods called *Primals*. Primals are the manifestation of any large organization or species God and given manifest by collecting a bunch of magic and making it have a physical body. The bad side is that anyone without a specific blessing will get enthralled by that God/Primal and driven to worship them with all the being.
Imagine you're just minding your business and then a Primal shows up, it uses it power to dominate your mind and next thing you know your crazily worshipping it so much you forget to sleep, eat, and take care of yourself until you ultimately die from worshipping too much.
Also what's worse is that all the life on the planet needs a steady flow of magic to survive, but a Primal just sucks it into its body continuously, making its surrounding a wasteland and threatening the life of the planet. The Warrior of Light along with other players fight these Primals in Boss Raids to *"Save the Day"* as it were.
Now Bahamut is a Primal that was summoned back in the 3rd era as a Divine Protector/God I guess to protect the Dragon Species from a super advanced group of people called the Allagans. The 3rd era came to a close eventually but not before the Allagans successfully imprisoned Bahamut into the red moon Dalamud, where again you watched it being unleashed.
As for the old looking elf man, he sends all those people to 2 years into the future I think? Where the world is safe again to continue there lives as Adventurers and The Warrior of Light.
God that was a lot, know clue if you'll read this or even understand it, but nevertheless try watching the cutscene of what happened to the old elf man after he teleported everyone to the future. There's a cinematic video of that on youtube somewhere. Also try watching all the other cinematic trailers for the other Expansions like *Final Fantasy 3.0 Heavensward*, *Final Fantasy 4.0 Stormblood*, *Final Fantasy 5.0 Shadowbringer*, and my favorite *Final Fantasy Endwalker.* Well have fun.

I'm sure someone else has explained this already but it's definitely important for the flow of events-- Oh, and none of the Final Fantasy series of games are directly related to another story-wise, FFXIV just has a ton of references that don't really need to have context.
So, the dragon was defeated, and at the time of this cinematic's release, nobody knew 100% why or how. If you plan on playing the game I won't spoil it since it's something explained in-game. Louisoix (the older man who tried to seal Bahamut (the dragon)) ended up sending the 5 main characters away... 5 years into the future, after the defeat of Bahamut, where the world is still healing from the devastation. That's the reason for the title A Realm Reborn, as much of the campaign consists of helping people displaced by the calamity and making a name for your character in the process.
I would definitely love to see you react to more of the game's music though! A ton of the soundtrack varies extremely in style and genre, and there's almost something for everyone!

That said, even though it's more grounded you still get to feel like a badass.

You should definitely give Final Fantasy XIV a try. The opening of the game explains everything that happens in the cinematic. You can also play for free up to level 60, which covers A Realm Reborn and the first expansion Heavensward. I also recommend you check out the No Clip documentary on Final Fantasy XIV for the amazing behind-the-scenes story of how the game bombed at launch and had to be remade from the ground up.

    More FF14! Yes!
FF14 is honestly my favorite RPG game, it is incredible! I've been playing it for 2 years now, and it is so good!
Never fails to either make me laugh, be in awe of the writing, or feel punched in the gut in the emotional scenes.

I'm with you. Finished 4.0 on my first character and started a new one cause I wasn't ready for ShB. Trying FF14 was probably the best decision I've made in years.

@@ladeao1552 Hahaha, but the Post-ShB patch content is so good! 😄
I'm on 6.1 myself, and I can say that the road from 4.0 to 6.0 is absolutely incredible. Just beat 6.0, and I had to soak everything in.
5.0 and 6.0 had me obsessed! Emotional, and on a high, but obsessed too! 😆

@@DXDragon38 On a slow burn with my main character, doing alot of everything I have access to as I unlock it so I don't forget it later. Just finished 3.0 so I'll make it there in the next year or two at current pace 😆

@@ladeao1552 Make sure you do all the Normal Raids, Alliance Raids, and as many Lvl 70 Job Quests as you can before you start Endwalker!
Trust me, it will only make your experience so much better.
A few Bozja or Eureka quests too if you want a little bit more dialogue options. Not needed though.
Oh, and I highly recommend you unlock a Job for each job category and raise them to 90, just to do the 5.0 and 6.0 Role Quests.
They are each separate from the MSQ, but when you do all of them they combine to tell an amazing story when paired with each expansion.
They even unlock some very interesting Lore Quests (marked Yellow for some of them)

Ff14 was one of the few games to ever make me weep like a child.
