wow ff xiv, what a game literally had one of the worst launches and was thought to be a trashy game, but fast forward today, with a bit of revision and care, it's one of the best multiplayer rpgs out there
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Fun fact: Flames of Truth depict the final events of FFXIV 1.0. This version of FFXIV was so bad that the devs decided to restart the game from scratch, and they make this reset canon by bringing out this huge dragon that literally destroys the world.
The best missable moment in all these is that the Shadowbringers trailer actually has flashback footage _from the trailer for 1.0_ calling back to the fact that despite being gone forever, despite its colossal failures, _1.0 still matters._
Let's not forget the fact that in that trailer, the WoL shuffles through all of his jobs he has shown in trailers prior, including starting out as archer, as he did back in the 1.0 trailer.
Also a nice detail is the fact there are no arrows in the quiver. I think that was supposed to be a reference to the whole 1.0 debacle. It was so bad it never got far and the Archer having no arrows was sybolic
The composer of the game soundtrack, Masayoshi Soken, was battling cancer while composing the music for the new expansion. He was in hospital for several months and only told two people about it, all of his other coworkers didn't know. And he kept writing music even in the months he was in the hospital 😭 He revealed this on stage at fanfest 2021 (where the team shows fans new things about the game) and the whole crew cried on stage, this team truly is amazing and I am feeling honored to be a tiny part of this even if I'm just a player ❤️ Lets hope Soken gets well soon
Soken isn't the only composer though, Uematsu composed some of the best songs in this game including Answers, Dragonsong, Fragments of Forever, Twilight over Thanalan and of course almost every song from previous FF game that are remixed into XIV.
You expressed interest in the tattoos some of the characters have. Those characters are part of a group of scholars from Sharlayan, the big white city from the Endwalker trailer with the big library. The tattoo indicates that they've completed the equivalent of a Doctorate degree, and had their thesis accepted by the city's academic council.
The twins graduated high-school/Batchelor degrees but haven't submitted doctoral-level thesis papers on their specific schools of study, and don't seem to have specifically determined what they'd focus on anyways
I always get a lil emotional from the 1st video, when the "old man" smiles, as he's not doing this for himself, but for his grandkids. They are in-game.
It also makes me teary knowing him and his grandchildren are Sharlayan, the city state that refuses to get involved with the fighting against the empire, and yet all 3 believe the realm is worth saving and willing to give up their lives. ;_; And then he sees the prayers of the people of Eorzea
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames what's wild is the original trailer for that doesn't show you anything after him teleporting everyone away. Your characters just appear in a forest five years later and no one remembers who you are. You have to go through a long optional raid to find out the truth at the end of a realm reborn
Major rules of the Final Fantasy saga, even with each game being a standalone title: 1) If the villain is a pretty dude with androgynous features, he's the most dangerous living being alive. 2) If a scene have a soundtrack with lyrics, get your Klennex cuz tears. Of joy or sadness or rage. Tears. 3) Be nice with small characters. They can be the most friendly person or an unadulterated agent of chaos
- Flames of Truth: This is actually not the trailer but a reward for people who have completed an in-game raid which ties up the results of what happened between 1.0 and 2.0 (A realm reborn). The actual trailer stops at the fade-to-white and then shows the land 5 years in the future where things pick back up. The heroes reappear there after Louisoix (the old man) sends them away from death. In Flames of Truth we see that all the magic energy (Aether) he collected and the prayers of hope of everyone basically transformed him in the physical embodiement of the 'god' Phoenix and he destroyed the summoned entity (Primal) Bahamut. Who was trapped in that moon for a few thousand years so rightfully angry. - Heavensward: Sees 'us' (the highlander human is 'us') after a betrayal has us accused of treason and the murder of the Sultana of a major city (the cup part). We flee to Ishgard where we are enmeshed in the thousand-year war between the Ishgardians and the Dragons. The trek through the snow represents the exile, and we also see our representation change his job from Warrior to Dragoon. The latter also being a bit of the showcase job of the expansion. - Stormblood: This one has us travel Eastwards. Assisting two rebellions to free themselves from the rule of the Garlean Empire (the people that we were fighting in the first cinematic). We start in Ala Mhigo where our Warrior of Light is seen as a Monk, and then later we go to the Far East where we see him as a Samurai. We eventually have to fight and defeat the crown-prince of the empire ( He is that tall fellow with the long blonde hair) - Shadowbringer: Has us come to the aid of a completely different dimension. Apparently something very bad happens to 'us' in the future, as we see the stumbling Warrior of Light as an Archer (his very very first class at 1.0) reminiscing about his life and the path he followed. It's also telling that in the battle against the monster he goes from Archer through all the other jobs he's had in the other trailers until we land on Dark Knight; The showcase job of this expansion. We have to 'unmake our future' and 'become what we were meant to be'... Save this world and through it save our own... not as the Warrior of Light, but The Warrior fo Darkness. - Endwalker: This is full-circle... Going to be the End of the overarching plot of the Real badguys behind all these other expansions. Funny detail is the callback to an older Final Fantasy title where we also go to the moon. One of the main characters Cecil goes from Dark Knight to Paladin in that one and here we have our Warrior of Light self be a Paladin for this last expansion... Well... latest... Still, you might want to look for the actual game trailer for 1.0 and 2.0. Flames of Truth is just a little off.
Ah okay. We have heard we missed the trailer for 1.0 so we will check that one out and thanks for giving us more in-depth info on the trailers we watched 😃
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames yeah not trying to sound negative but without knowing the story and context these trailers/cinematics won't make much sense, I'd recommend at least reading about the 1.0 ending and transition to A Realm Reborn as the story behind it is actually badass (basically 1.0 sucked so much the devs decided to kill the game and remaked it from scratch and incorporated it into the lore, the apocalyptic cinematic with the big dragon actually played to the OG players who stayed until the servers shut down, god I wish I was there)
As one who was there at the 1.0 shutdown it was a awesome way to end the game and the haunting music played the entire time before they actually shut it down, square did a fantastic job of revamping the game
Imma be real watching people who never played FFXIV react to the trailers and making their own small theories are super refreshing. If you guys ever do have the chance to play the game I 100% recommend it. It's a bit of a time dump, but a worth it time dump indeed.
We heard it can be a grind but free to play for first several levels in the game so that’s a bonus. We generally don’t do mmo but we may give it a shot 🤔🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It's free to play up until the end of Heavensward (up to where you'd transition to Stormblood), so you basically get base game and first expansion for free as a whole. The "grind" people speak of is most likely the early levels of the game (1-50),which start slow as the game has loose threads to tie from the failed first launch into the new version, as well as getting new players familiar with the world and how things work, as well as establishing new threads that carry on, some all the way to Endwalker (current expansion). You also naturally start as a fresh-faced adventurer recently arrived to the land, and slowly work your way up building your reputation as the story hurls ever increasing challenges your way, as fantasy stories are wont to do. If you're just curious about the story there won't be much typical mmo grinding, as the story quests give enough experience to carry you through to the end without having to engage in side-stuff you're not interested in. But definitely a story worth getting into!
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Honestly you can just play through the story and ignore the MMO part, except for when you have to do certain group content as part of the story (at which point you just enter a queue to join a group, once the group has formed you enter the dungeon/raid, do it, then exit and leave the group). This is what I personally do, I don't have the motivation to play MMO content now that I'm old. But it is a big time commitment. I wasn't speedrunning, took my time and did do some side-content along the way (most notably playing in the casino/arcade to get a special event mount) but I think I was at about 250 hours playtime when I finished the entire game (all expansions up to and including the latest). It is available on either playstation or PC, but it is solely online so you do need to be connected to the internet to play, and once you get past Heavensward you need to be paying a monthly subscription fee to access the servers. If you do decide you want to go on this journey, you will love it, but as a couple of other people have said playing through ARR (levels 1-50) and then doing the required level 50 stuff before you can start Heavensward is the grindiest, slowest-feeling part of the game. A lot of people either quit or take breaks during that part. I personally stopped playing twice during 1-50 for a few weeks each time as I got bored/fed up, but once I started Heavensward I barely did anything else in my free time up until I finished the entire game, it was that captivating. Super cool to watch you guys react to all these.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who had that "they're going to bang" reaction to the Stormblood cinematic. And yeah, the main character is the same dude every time. This game allows players to change their class or "job" at will, and they are considered canonical; the player character really can "do it all". He is a stand in for *you*.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames they do not, however, bang. This game is actually a lot more like Star Wars: The Old Republic than World of Warcraft in how the game plays, heavily voiced, heavily cutscene and story driven, and the Scion characters you see throughout are basically your squad, but SWTOR lets you romance them and "rendezvous" are implied with a fade to black. None of that in FF14, which is honestly a shame
A general rule for Final Fantasy is that if it's not obvious if a character is a girl then it's most likely just a pretty dude. The blond long-haired big-armored scythe-wielding one is in fact a man. I think he's like a prepetual wild-card villain called Zenos yae Galvus.
with all the shit that happens to them the WoL just seems to be more Trauma than personality at this point. Its telling from their behaviour and the increasingly abrasive response choices we get that its all taking a toll on them.
The guy with the spear is called Estinien, and he's on our side. He started out as a dragoon (Dragon hunters) and has kind of evolved into a fantasy/hobo version of batman, helping us from the shadows while also directly avoiding us at every possible turn.
Oh god, fantasy/hobo version of batman is the most accurate description of Estinien. Although, he's technically not homeless anymore, he got a new job! 😂
The final walk to the end of endwalker just had me in tears..the really did a phenomenal job wrapping up this very long and epic journey... there really hadn't been a dull moment
For us, who play this game for years… in my case 8 years plus and still going strong, the final walk was just the most bitter sweet heart wrenching experience I’ve ever had in a game! I bawled over my keyboard, screamed in excitement, laughed in utter happiness. This game gives me life and brought me through the toughest time, when I had cancer. So yeah it’s just a masterpiece.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames .There still a trailer for 1.0 on youtube somewhere I just can't remember it name. End of a Era shows more of the aftermath of Flames of Truth it just cuts out what happen to the old man's battle and show u where the teleport people went.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames as cool as that would be, it wouldnt work storywise the Trailer guy is meant to be “another version” of the Player Chara. And u actually meet them In Game
It’s a small detail but my favorite part is in the stormblood trailer. When the guy is loadin the cannon they focus briefly on a bucket of water next to him. You can see the water rippling from the force of the blows of the 2 people sparring on the statue. It’s very small but I love it. It shows how they could fight giant monsters with just their fists
I like that you picked up on the warrior of light versus the warrior of darkness part. The point was that the warrior of light is tipping the scale, he eventually gets taken to another world where the light has all but won and saves them by becoming their warrior of darkness. FFXIV is an amazing game.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames any chance you guys did start playing? I just got into it a year ago and have cried so much! 😆 Finished up Shadowbri gets and headed for Endwalker so I can be ready for Dawntrail!!
So glad to see ya'll finally do FF14. "Pretty Boy Norman Reedus". As a FF14 player, from now on anytime I see the Warrior of Light/Darkness in a trailer I can't not see that anymore. :)
Heh, it tickles me a little hearing the uninitiated call Zenos "she". He definitely does fall into that bishi archetype. The "androgynous pretty boy" is a mainstay in Japanese fiction. And very often, the more androgynous and pretty a character is, the stronger they are. Zenos is the main antagonist of the series, and is the strongest entity in the world. It's interesting to see in your summary that you managed to pick up on some of the story beats even without any context. Some of the moments didn't hit home without knowing the background (trust me when I say that the "I promise you, Minfilia" line would have blown your mind if you knew the story and who Minfilia is :D), but I'm glad you enjoyed them. I suspect other comments have answered your questions, but just to throw in: The game is played in the third person. You create your own character who can be male or female, and from a number of races (the hyur - or human - male who the movies focus on is essentially a proxy for the player character. He's a stand in for the player; but the player doesn't have to be male, or human, or look anything like him) and adventure in the continent of Eorzea (and eventually beyond). Much of the game is played solo, following the main storyline of the game and leveling up your character as you would in any other RPG and gaining skills. Monsters wander around the world and will usually attack your character if you get to close to them, and fighting takes place in real time. Your character has abilities that you activate via a hot-bar, that can be chained together to create combos that make each attack in the sequence more effective (also known as 'a rotation'). Your character can find, buy or make armour and weapons, and your character model updates to accurately portray whatever you happen to be wearing at the time (unlike most other MMOs, your character isn't fixed as one class. Your character can switch freely between any class in the game, but he or she will level them up individually. Although it is possible to reach max level in every class with enough time investment). It is also possible to enchant your armour to look like other armour (for example, making a very powerful piece of gear that you don't like the appearance of look like a less powerful piece of equipment that you thought looked cool). Meaning that no two characters are every likely to look the same and there's a lot of freedom in customizing your character's appearance. In addition to solo play, the game also has group content like dungeons - where you team up with three other players and work cooperatively to fight your way through large set piece battlefields, fighting large groups of monsters and powerful boss enemies. Many of these dungeons intersect with the main story, such that you'll have to run them to progress. Others are optional side content. There are also 'trials', which feature between 4 and 8 players, which are basically very powerful boss fights. Again, some of these occur as part of the main story, and others are side content. Some of the optional trials have multiple difficulty levels, such as 'extreme', 'savage' and 'ultimate' - these tend to be considered the endgame, and being able to defeat them is a major accomplishment that usually gives the best gear. But they require major coordination between the players. Then there are raids, which are large scale dungeons that require a total of 24 players to take on. They feature some of the most powerful enemies in the game and have their own storylines. There is lots of other content in the game that I won't go into here, since the list would be exhaustive. But that's the basics of how the game works and how it's played. Some people even just use it as a social hub, and don't partake in much content at all except building a house, buying and customizing character clothing, and hanging out with their friends playing music.
@@Its_an_Eze I'm mostly in it for the story; in any given patch, it's always the MSQ content I'm most interested in. Between patches, I spend most of my time running roulette with my friends, or building my house, and hanging around making cool G-poses.
@@seraphinaaizen6278 Nothing wrong with that 💯 funny enough I just got done redesigning my house recently. But hey if you enjoy it however ya can that's all that matters 😊
I never watched them back to back like this, but now I'm realizing that without the 2 years of story between each of the expansion releases, it seems as if the world is ALWAYS kinda ending 😂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames The world shown in the first 1.0 shutdown really is the world ending. In the game you get to meet all of those people you see in the trailer. Fighting. There were 13 worlds, duplicates if you will. In the 1.0 shutdown trailer.. the world really does end and everyone does die. The characters you meet in the game called at that point the warriors of darkness talk about it and talk about dying. Later on in Flames of Truth (the version you watched which was released almost 2 years later) explains how Bahamut was defeated in your world and how the warriors of darkness/light got teleported to your world with a 5 year time skip. But yeah.. they all died. That world ended. Literally the 1.0 world ended. In the actual game players were playing right up to the end. You actually tried to stop the fall of the moon, Dalmud (that big red sphere).. yeah Bahamut is the size of a SMALL MOON. You manage to stop it but then a badguy re-activates it and you fail, the world will end. The guy with the horns on the air-ship then challenges you all to come fight him on Cartenau because the world is going to end. Some players actually fought at Cartenau, others fought to save the Cities and made lore that is in game, the Great Gloobue Wall. Others just gathered with friends to watch the world end. Then the servers disconnected the players and everyone got to watch the cutscene of the world ending. It's pretty momentous and emotional. All of the legacy players in the game have a tattoo on their character that shows they are from another "world".
fun story: On the initial release of the game it was very TERRIBLE there were many game breaking issues where it was quite unplayable. Then they switch out the director's and the current director Naoki Yoshida decided to wipe the slate clean. So the cinematic with the Bahamuth (the dragon you witnessed) was the answer to that by destroying the whole world (servers). Then released it as a practically brand new game that is now considered one of the best MMO around.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Being there for the end is an mmo experisaince i don't think anything will ever compare to again Just watching this moon slowly getting bigger and bigger listening to the haunting echoing music across the land as you are your buddies just sit there together watching it come down. @@sirken2 Being there for the last few minutes of that era is just amazing, chilling, terrifying, yet exciting. Then they made it the focus of one of the story arcs and it's just amazing.
Ah Final Fantasy XIV. A game where you, a random nobody who works as pest controller end up being the savior and protector of multiverse in span of 2~3 years.
the flames of truth cinematic is actually an extended version of the 'a realm reborn' one- it originally ended when the screen turned white. what's really cool though is flames of truth is effectively what was the end of the 1.0 version of the game which was notoriously bad, so they effectively just destroyed the world using bahamut- the dragon. they made them trashing the old version of the game actual in game lore- known as the seventh umbral calamity. ps. the dude with the axe who appears in each trailer, changing jobs in each too, us the player character stand in
i do want to note cus it's not as obvious in the stormblood one- the guy at the start and the samurai are indeed the same person, weird time shenanigans
Gonna tag onto this, Bahamut is one of the strongest Primals (which is essentially like a minor god), and he was sealed away because of that strength. In the trailer, they are trying to reseal him but it fails. So Louisoix, the elderly elf man in the trailer, teleported everyone away at the cost of his own life.
Sweet that you guys finally got to some Final Fantasy, been looking forward to this all week! Half surprised it took you this long to get to this most legendary of franchises, considering you guys are fantasy nerds. I've loved me some Final Fantasy since I was like, 9 or 10 or so (I'm 33 now), so nice to see someone else jumping on board. You guys rock!
Some context about the trailers: The first trailer wasn't a trailer, it was the Flames of Truth which showed how the 7th Umbral Calamity happened and the ultimate fate of Louisoix Leveilleur who was trying to stop it from happening. Garlemald is pulling the red moon Dalamud from the sky to devastate Eorsea, but what they don't know is a powerful elder primal (summon being) known as Bahamut was trapped inside the moon for thousands of years. Its release causes the 7th Umbral Calamity and nearly destroys all of Eorsea. Heavenward is the story of the player fleeing to Ishgard after being falsely accused of killing the Sultana of the wealthy nation of Ul'dah (the tiny girl who drank from the cup and fell to the floor). The player gets involved in Ishgard's war against the Dragons, learns the true origins of the war, and eventually is able to broker a peace between the dragons and Ishgard. They also, over time, regroup with most of their allies who were scattered by the incident in Ul'dah. Stormblood is a war story. The three nations of Eorsea are unwillingly drawn into a war with Garlemald to free the nation of Ala Mhigo from their oppression. All seems to go well until Zenos, the son of the Emperor, shows up and kicks the Warrior of Light's ass and most of the Ala Mhigan Resistance is crushed. To draw attention away from Ala Mhigo, the Warrior of Light and a couple of allies flee to the Far Eastern nation of Doma. There they help the rebels fight back against the Imperial viceroy and reclaim their freedom. Victorious, the Warrior of Light returns to Ala Mhigo with help from Doma and frees that nation as well. Shadowbringers is a story where the 8th Umbral Calamity happens and the Warrior of Light is killed. A survivor of the apocalypse travels back in time and to another dimension called the First. The First is one of 13 alternate universes that are all reflections of the main world of the game, called The Source. The First is being flooded by an overabundance of Light and is on the verge of coming to an end. The destruction of the First will trigger the 8th Umbral Calamity on the Source, to prevent this the Warrior of Light must become the Warrior of Darkness and restore darkness to the First which hasn't seen a night sky for over 100 years. Endwalker is the finale to the story that started in FFXIV A Realm Reborn. Remember the Source and the 13 alternate universes? They used to be one world, but something went terribly wrong, and the world was shattered into the Source and 13 reflections. The main baddies, the Ascians, have been rejoining of the 13 reflections with the Source to restore their sundered world, and every time a rejoining happens a Calamity takes place. However, the Warrior of Light has defeated all of the Ascians causing the calamities. A lesser Ascian and Zenos set into motion the same apocalypse which destroyed the original world, but this time on the Source. It is up to the Warrior and Light and their allies to stop it.
Nice. Thanks for giving us more info on these trailers. Definitely helps to understand them more though we appreciated them still without knowing anything 🙃 Looks like a very fun and immersive experience 😃
I've been playing FFXIV on and off for years now but admittedly got quite lost with the story pre-shadowbringers. This has got to be among the best summaries I've read on the whole MMO's story so far. Definitely saving this. Thank you so much for the write up!
One mistake you made there, the Eorzean Nations refused to march onto war with Garlemald, until a dude, Ilberd, plans a coup, where he dresses a bunch of rebels in Eorzean uniforms and summons a destructive primal on the walls and causes untold mayhem, which starts off the war between Eorzea and Garlemald.
@@TheZorch Yeah, it was also 'unwilling' for the Garleans. Not just the Eorzean Alliance, but fuck Zenos and his XIIth Legion and fuck Valens with his VIIth Legion giving the Empire a bad rep.
I personally have never seen the trailers for these games. But holy cow they are epic! I will have to check the game out now! The opera-like music that reminds me of the Final Fantasy-esque style epic fights and journey. The over the top action combined with the flashy skills and moves, really entertaining to watch!
The song that features in Flames of Truth is called Answers and was written specifically for the game by long time Final Fantasy composer Nobou Uematsu. It was one of the last things he did for the franchise (though he did come back and write a song for FF7 Remake). So it definitely has that feel of the classic final fantasy melodies we all love. I did find it cool that the cinematic is called Flames of Truth and the song paired with it is called Answers. Probably not unintended. In the final moments of the the original iteration of Final Fantasy 14, as the countdown ticked down, everyone saw the first part of this cinematic (ending with the heroes being teleported away) before the servers went down forever. Some time later the game would be rereleased in the form it is now, vastly improved. It quite literally was A Realm Reborn. I have only once before seen a MMO do something so bold as to decimate their world in such a way. And that was a long long time ago (late 90's, early 2000's). And in that instance the newly remade world and zones were ready to go. The reset the servers and after a moment when they came back and up and everyone logged in, everything was different. Its one thing to do that with a small MMO with maybe a couple thousand players. Its a whole other thing to do it with a major franchise on a AAA title with literally nothing for the players to log on to afterwards. Square took a huge huge risk. And its fantastic to see that it is really paying off for them now.
If you enyoy the music, I'd like to suggest watching Final Fantasy XV OST - Apocalypsis Noctis (Live at Abbey Road Studios) which is a recent favourite of mine, but like Khellendross stated Nobou Uematsu is the master composer to FF as a whole... So many good songs!
@@TakezoMusashi Well for ff14 its Masayoshi Soken since 2010. He became primary composer for the title with the launch of A Realm Reborn and the expansions that followed. He is unbelievably talented and very dedicated.
@@KumagorouBeam Happy to hear! I'm new to 14 so, it's nice to hear that 14-music is epic, like the rest of the series. The FFXV composer was Yoko Shimomura, I think she did keep with the legacy of quality. Nobou had a rock-band called Black mages, who remixed the soundtrack to rock songs. And now there is The Primals, which are beloved afaik :)
The flames of truth cinematic was created to literally destroy the original Final Fantasy 14 MMO. It had failed dramatically so they wanted to reboot it. They nuked the game's world in-lore (the cinematic) and then we got the remake, A Realm Reborn
Also the A Realm Reborn shows the world after a 5 year time skip where everything seems to have been rebuilt and the characters who were sent away with magic appear in the forest
Final fantasy XIV is an MMO with an extreme dedication to the story. everything revolves around it and everything exists to service it. (this isn't necessarily a good thing but it's not bad either). while it IS an MMO it plays in a way that if it was just a single player story driven RPG it would probably feel like a complete game even like that. combat starts very slow in the game and progressively gets faster and faster as you level up and gain more tools of your trade. it also is extremely lenient for people who just wanna take it easy. catch up doesn't really feel like a "grind" so much as just doing what you want when you want. (the devs design philosophy is to take breaks and come back when you feel like it and it shows). there is also a ton of things to do to just kinda whittle the time away like the gold saucer, crafting, and sidequesting if the big raids with friends isn't your cup of tea. There WAS a free trial that included the entire base game and the first expansion with no limit on playtime, however due to the explosive success of the newest expansion, free trial registration has been put on hold until a later date as all NA servers are currently full. as someone who doesn't really like MMO's I can say that XIV doesn't really feel like an MMO in the best way. you still got your guilds and you still got your endgame raids (which if you like a challenge like me are very fun), but you can enjoy playing the game solo or with friends.
We would definitely play it solo as much as possible unless we had it running on two consoles or something so we could both play. Nice to know it Has such a heavy focus on story 😀

This game has so many things to share, a top tier community very chill, one of the best story, music content, and more. It's not rare to see people react on it or make content of it like musics, animation etc... Best game so far o/
It's always nice to see people who never played the game trying to catch what's going on by watching the trailers. For me, a veteran player of the game since day one and a Final Fantasy fan in general, it's 10 years worth of laughs, tears and joy condensed in 30 minutes of cinematics. The man who appeared in each and every cinematics is Square-Enix depiction of the player character, who is at the center of this amazing story. The hero of light trying to save the day with the help of the Scions of the seventh dawn. Endwalker is the final episode of the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga, the main story of the game so far. Patch 6.0 will bring Endwalker online and the main story will close on itself at the end of it. Since it's not the end of the MMORPG in any way, 6.1 will be the start of a whole new saga that, I hope, will last for the next ten years. A wonderful story that deserve a try.
The thing about light and dark is that in the earliest final fantasy games there was always both warriors of light and warriors of darkness and they were both on the side of good since in final fantasy light and dark are mostly seen as forces that create balance between each other and sometimes one can over power the other and the corresponding warrior of either light or dark will have to fight the overpowering side in order to save the world its pretty cool
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames nah it's fine. Enjoyed your reaction to the trailer. May this will entice you to try out the game. The free trial time is indefinite until you beat Heavensward.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Don't worry, the plot of Endwalker is basically that "she" starts the end of the world so you can have a date on the moon. I'm not even joking.

Very story driven with MMO elements. I love this game and I also like trying to unravel the mysteries of the story. There is a free trial through the first expansion heavensward, so give it a try if you want. (that's level 60).
Its a bit much without the actual gameplay , but man , FFXIV is a masterpiece, and the people behind it, the devs , are just...amazing. These cinematics make me so emotional because FFXIV is a major part of my gaming life. 15/10 would recommend playing :)
Love how you didn’t just stop at 11/10 and went full 15 😁 these trailers even not having played the game were amazing so can only imagine the feelings they elicit from those familiar with storyline 🤩
So glad yelled finally watched these awesome trailers! I dunno if you plan on playing any of these but just to clarify some things for you: In the first cinematic the dragon was sealed away not born. As stated before by someone else, the person with the scythe is infact a guy :p He is also the same guy that was wearing the flashy armor during the beginning of the shadowbringers cinematic The guy riding the dragon in the endwalker trailer is definitely a good guy The tattoo you saw on some of the characters identifies them as part of the 'Circle of Knowing' "Sharlayan neck tattoos are a sign of having completed a high degree of education and being recognized as a Sage of that discipline." And the story for this game is so massive it would difficult to explain it all without major spoilers: But if you don't mind *SPOILERS* Long story short (for the last trailer and why everything was on fire), eons ago a world fell to pieces and now the world that the game mainly takes place in is experiencing the same catastrophe and the key to it all is on the moon (or something of that nature).
We don’t mind spoilers as this might not be a game we play. At least not this version of the game. But we do enjoy the cinematics and maybe at some point will watch the in game ones if there are vids for it 🙃😎
You got so many trailers to watch! Final Fantasy series, Tales of series, Trails of Cold Steel series, Persona series is list of a few of my favourites but they are many more!
A cool easter egg I never noticed. It may have been mentioned. The Asian city you liked is Kugane. As the scene is end there are two people standing on top of a tower. Thats actually in the game. They have jump puzzles. Its a pain to get up there and then you can jump off and try to land on a light pole for an achievement.
While I would absolutely recommend FF14 to any fans of fantasy stories, as an MMO it can be a bit of a challenge to get into- after all the upcoming expansion Endwalker is going to be the finale of a storyline that has been ongoing for about 15 years. That is a lot of story and gameplay to play through. For that reason alone I probably wouldn't recommend FF14 to be the first Final Fantasy game for someone new to the series. If I was to pick a FF game for a first timer I would probably recommend Final Fantasy 10. It is a far more standard single player, heavily story driven RPG that really captures the essence of a Final Fantasy game. It was made recently enough that the graphics are still appealing to look at, and has somewhat recently had an HD remaster, which means it is available on modern consoles and PC. Something to note about the Final Fantasy series that first timers usually ask about- the stories of each numbered game are entirely self contained. So you don't have to play previous games to know what is going on. All of the characters, conflicts and even the worlds themselves are unique to their own games. The only time this isn't the case is when it is a direct sequel- for example Final Fantasy 13 developed into an entire trilogy of games, starting with Final Fantasy 13, followed by Final Fantasy 13-2 then Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns. (On a side note, the FF13 trilogy are some of my favorite FF games, but they were rather divisive among fans- there are just as many who hate them as who love them.) That said, there are a few things that all FF games have that mark them as part of the series. Most notable are similar species of monsters/animals, for example every FF game has Chocobos, which are basically big yellow chickens that you ride like horses. Furthermore, there are some characters (usually side characters) which share names of people from previous FF games while not actually being the same person. A great example of this, that "pirate guy" from the Heavensward trailer is named Cid- he shows up in most FF games in one form or another and he almost always pilots an airship, but this Cid is very different than say, FF15 Cid who was a grumpy old man with a southern accent who runs a garage (FF15 also had another character named Cindy in English releases and Cidney in the Japanese release who essentially acted as a female Cid.)
It's 10 years of story and as far as I'm concerned, even though it's not a #1 choice for a Final Fantasy beginner, it's definitely one of the best MMORPG on the market right now (beginner friendly too) and also an amazing storytelling adventure. I've got friends who had never played a Final Fantasy game before hopped into the game a couple weeks after Endwalker's teaser release and they all enjoyed playing it to the point it made them try other games from the franchise. The community is fantastic, the story is incredible, the landscapes are breathtaking, the music is phenomenal and the gameplay is on point. 10 years worth of content might be daunting for some but Square-Enix put so much stuff in place for new players that it shouldn't be a problem. People are still running low level dungeons/raids through daily roulettes, there are many FCs who do farming run for mounts, there are even party forming everywhere to do hunts and older content (Eureka for exemple). I'm not writing this comment to humiliate the OP and the rest of his comment is all good. I'm just trying to tell people who might hesitate to play this game to give it a try. Square-Enix is even giving the chance for new players to try the whole base game + first extension (heavensward) for free as a trial. A whole 60 levels worth of content, story and excitement to try on.
I'm not sure if this happens to all 14 players, but I feel a strange sense of pride and joy whenever someone reacts with amazement at the trailers. I'm here at work, smiling like a crazy person, as if they were reacting to a story I wrote. I guess this game is so fantastic at making you a part of it, that you actually feel others are reacting to YOUR epic story ❤️
Man, Flames of Truth makes me cry every time because, well...you lost. You fought, and you fought, and you fought, defeating every villain, stopping the world from being drained of life energy by Primals, and even killed the person who was summoning the moon from falling. ...But you still lost. All of that hope, all of that good, taken away from you because the initiation sequence had already started and couldn't be stopped. The false moon fell, the dragon was released, and the world was quite literally changed on a fundamental level. The Calamity you fought your ASS off to prevent, doing everything right without failure...still happened. Then the guy who was guiding your path the whole time sacrificed himself and used his power to send you 5 years into the future to try to still help the world that was on the brink of death and make it a realm reborn.
The game originally takes place in a region of the world called Eorzea which is generally what you saw on the map during some of the trailers. In Stormblood you move into Gyr Abania (the Middle East of the world so to speak, also where the the two monks were fighting on the statue's hand) and Othard (home to Doma which is kind of a pastiche to Japan and China) and Hingashi (the world's Japan and the beautiful city of Kugane that the samurai was kicking soldier butt in). Endwalker is introducing several new regions and cities into the game, the villains are hanging out in Garlemald which is the home of the Empire. Old Sharlayan is the beautiful watery city.
@@DayleDiamond no its not. G'raha and Matoya were not circle members. All the circle members just happened to have Sage marks, not all sages were circle members.
@@FerrumAnulum Actually I just double checked it. It is officially the tattoo of the Circle of Knowing. The Circle of Knowing consists of twelve people
@@Sivrn-Val I'll say it again... Matoya and G'raha were not circle members... Matoya was invited invited but declined cause she still had beef with Louie and G'raha would of still been at the studium at this point in time.
My Personal 3 Favorite characters that show up in the Trailers, are Y'shtola who is the White Haired Cat Gal with the Staff, she's just awesome in general and can be very snarky. She tends to be the most practical and logical of the Scions...though all of them tend to be practical and logical to one extent or another since they are all Archons, it kind of comes with the Gig. You also see her briefly in Flames of Truth praying to the Twelve and trying to help Louisoix(The Old Guy) Reseal Bahamut. Followed by Yugiri and Gosetsu, who were the two standing on top of the building in Stormblood. The real big guy and the smaller gal with the white horns. Both are very dedicated to their Lord and enlist the Warrior of Light's help to aid the people of Doman, well Yugiri enlists your aid, Gosetsu Shows up to be like "Yugiri! Where you been Lord Hien needs us!" then when she says she has a debt to those that helped her people he's basically just goes "Well then I will help too!"
19:58 "This might be the best so far" Me: Can't wait to see their ShadowBringer reaction Anyways yeah, you follow the same dude through out the trailers, the Warrior of Light. After the first trailer, where the 7th Astral Calamity happened, Bahamut blowing everything to hell, you're teleported 5 years into the future and everyone forgets who you are. Also there's a reason Shadowbringers is one of the best expansions, if you don't want any spoilers skip this but: The main world in the game is the Source, you travel to one of it's fragments, the First. In the First, the Warriors of Light of that world won their war against the dark, however because they won, the world became filled with Light, the angel is one of the creatures created from the over abundance of light. You come into the world 100 years after this has happened, summoned by the Exarch, the dude with the crystal hand. Throughout the story you're followed by the spirit of that worlds Warrior of Light, it's a very heart wrenching story as well. One of my favorite quotes that he says, in a previous expansion where it's all introduced, is "We did everything right! Everything that was asked of us but still! Still it came to this!." I think that's how the quote goes, but yeah it's an amazing story and I highly recommend looking up all the cutscenes for Shadowbringers, it's amazing. Also last thing, just wanted to point this out, the class in Endwalker, the one the Warrior of Light was using, is the Paladin, it's one of the best classes in the game, and is easily S-Tier
The main guy is the same from all of them, The people with the Tattoos that all match are a group trying to "save the world" Each Expansion or video showcases a different "job" a staple in most RPGs. The "girl" with the blond hair is a horrid bad Guy, he's also just "pretty" Rewatch them at some point, you'll see a lot of the characters in each one or most of them anyway. Each expansion released more Jobs, so the Dark night at the end of Shadowbringer, was a job released with that Expansion. which is why he didn't have that power before. Its a pretty involved storyline and realistically unless you play the game, you'll miss a lot, even with explanations. There are literally hundreds of Story missions with this game. You can get a vague idea, but its a game you understand better by playing. However, its a MMO, so its a big time investment. Also yes, the people with the furry ears are kind of Hybrids. A lot of this game references Final Fantasy 11, which there were 5 playable races, FFXIV started out with essentially the same but has expanded to add several more. But yes, there are Bunny People, Dragon people, Cat people, Elves, a Dwarf-ish race, there are "beast" people and then just normal "humans" And that's just the playable side, there are foes and allies which spread across more races, although those aren't shown in the trailer much, aside from the Goblin. Most of the "foes" you see the main character or allies facing, are Dungeon or Storyline bosses. And yes, Light and Dark plays a huge role in this game. Its not Quite so linear in that Embrace both sides, tho that is a piece of it. "Warrior of light" is a Final Fantasy Staple starting from FF1 Game play: Its a MMO, so online full time, Subscription based, but because of how much content, you can do a free trial and get all the way up to level 60, possibly higher, Current Level cap is 80. You assign Action to hot keys, or Keyboard buttons, Or can use Mouse and Keyboard to click. Its standard RPG, target monster, fight monster. Its Fairly fast paced. Its is also Very story and quest driven, with both giving you exp and helping you level up to progress further. You Auto learn Spells and abilities based on your Class/Job as you level, and need to equip yourself with appropriate Gear based on your Class/Job and level. The "wizard" from the Flames of truth.. That trailer was After the world Broke. They had an Alpha and Beta development, where Majority of the player base felt the game was trash, so they literally scrapped the game. They "ended" the world, by making a Giant Meteor crash down, Inside that Meteor a dragon was sealed away. So during the initial Storyline, you learn that Louisoix, the wizard, had helped seal the dragon away before. He is also the grandfather of the Sibling elves in Endwalker. But since the realm was literally ending, both in story, but also since the servers were being reset to be worked on, He sends you away to a new realm; A realm Reborn.
Love that little bit in the end about Flames of Truth and it’s cool they admitted their mistake but took care of it in kind of a fantastical way 😃🤩 Thanks for sharing all this info 🥳
It’s been said a few times in the comments already but a bit of clarification, the first half of the Flames of Truth cinematic (before Louisoix goes super saiyan) was played for 1.0 players if they were online when the servers where taken down. There was a whole storyline these players had been working through up to that point and they had no idea that there was going to be a 2.0. They literally watched the game they had been playing destroyed. When 2.0 launched the original opening trailer shows the warriors of light who you see transported before the end materialize in the present day Eorzea which the current game is set in. The final part where Louisoix destroys Bahamut was only revealed players who completed the top tier raid at the time. Square has since learned their lesson and don’t gate major story points behind raid content anymore.
What a lot of people forget to mention is that FF XIV is a RPG first and the MMO part takes sort of second place. This blend is unique as it actually has a story and even the small sidequests got a small story and an explanation why you have to do them.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Then you'll be in for quite a ride. So many cutscenes and you'll see your own char in it. Just one small tip: don't do all the small sidequests. Those can get boring and are more for leveling another class besides the first one. Also it is better to stick to one class as switching can burn you out (except when you discover that you absolutely don't like your first choice).
You guys were spot on about there not being a clear set distinction between who's wright and wrong. There is a lot of gray area with the characters and factions
I play FFXIV. I'm looking forward to see both of your reactions to this. The "dragon" name was Bahamut and he wasn't hatched, he was imprisoned. They were trying to deal him back up again. Louisoix Leveilleur was the older Elezen man that gave his life to save the world. One the second video for reasons I will not tell you (hehe) we are exiled and cast from our homelands. Blamed for something we didn't do. So we head to Ishgard where a terror roams and we must find and defeat it. For the third video we quest more and it leads us to Kugane which is the beautiful city you saw. Much happens and we have to step things up a bit. As you saw our Warrior of Light Ardbert (that's his name btw) has learned to be a Samurai. Incase you don't know the reason Ardbert changes from Warrior to Dragoon and from Monk to Samuri is to show people that your not subjected to one class or job in the game. You can be anything you want. In the 5th video we are teleported to another world entirely. It's called The First. In our world we are known as The Warrior of Light. But in this one we must become the Warrior of Darkness because the world is set in perpetual light. No night time ever. We didn't use those Powers because we never had them. And for the final video we head to the moon. The person with that giant scythe is a man. His name is Xenos, you saw him before in the other trailer where the had the fight in the battle field around bodies of falled comrades. Honestly I'm excited to see if you play. If you do hit me up. And as always I loved this video. Thank you for reacting to the one game that changed my life for good. The gameplay is great characters can be how you want to make them and your not subjected to only one job or class. There are crafters and gatherers as well as the disciples of war and magic. This can be something I see you both playing I've seen multiple couples play it together. And they always tell me they have a blast.
Thanks so much for sharing all the info on the game and what a positive impact it has on your life. We love hearing peoples stories about how certain games made them feel or influenced them just as much as we love learning about the lore and geeking out with you all. We are on the fence about diving into this world. May need some more stuff to check out first ☺️🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames absolutely. Also you guys mentioned fat cats referring to the people. I will tell you there is a fat cat mount. Just look up fat cat mount ffxiv and you'll see it.
Omg this was my first time rewatching that first cinematic after real reborn. Louisoix was such a freaking badass. I will never not cry. Beautifully done.
So many people have been fleeing World of Warcraft for Final Fantasy XIV, that Square Enix has been forced to temporarily suspend sales of the game because the servers are being overwhelmed. Oceania is getting their datacenter and servers, but it won't be enough.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames My server, Famfrit, has a login queue of 20-30+ during the day. That NEVER happens except when an expansion is out but it's not here yet. Some servers, right now, have queues as high as 400+ without an expansion release. When Endwalker hits in November, that could jump to 1,000+. No joke, SE needs to bring more servers online before November.
@@teresabailey7874 Yoshi-P released an apology for the long login queues, and said they were working on addressing the issue. They're recently imposed a 30-min. auto-logout if you go AFK for too long. The chip shortage is effecting their ability to bring new servers online quickly. That's why the new Oceania data center won't be up for until after Endwalker launches.
@@teresabailey7874 it won’t happen, Yoshi-P has come out and stated that the server issue is not something you could just throw money at, there is currently a parts shortage so they can’t make the physical megaservers for the mmo. And they pointed out that the backlog has caused a prioritization of who gets the microprocessors and parts, at the top is military and government, then critical infrastructure (think banking farming telecommunications internet providers) then manufacturing industry and second to last priority is entertainment industry (private citizen ownership is dead last)
I don't see it in any of the other comments so I may as well point it out: Alphinaud and Alisaie, the red and blue twins at the start of the Endwalker trailer, are the grandchildren of Louisoix, the guy who killed the dragon in Flames of Truth. And when Y'shtola (black dress catgirl) was arguing with the white robed elf about "Sharlayan keeping its counsel" - that's Fourchenault, the twins' father, and Louisoix's son. So you see three generations of the Levelleur family across these trailers.
For sure. That’s the way it is for all the great fantasy games. We watched some WoW stuff and it had the same feeling. The Wrath of the Lich king in particular 🙃🥳
I love your reactions, they are amazing Also side note the "girl" who fights the samurai guy and with the scythe are the same person also male, his name is Zenos and he is a main antagonist for stormblood and probably Endwalker as well.
Great Reaction! Thanks for doing all of them! FFXIV has woven one of the better fantasy narratives in games in a long while. If you are ever interested, its a slow burn but so well crafted. ps: Pretty Norman Reedus (love it) - Is meant to be a personification of the player.
"Why weren't you doing that to begin with?" The job that the Warrior switches to there is called Dark Knight. In game, the storyline revolves around having to draw out their inner regrets, sorrows, and basically all of their negative emotion to fuel their power. Their frustration with having to answer the call to duty, their remorse for having to fight and potentially kill people who all have their own lives, etc. Without those kind of darker emotions, the Dark Knight is not as strong. The trailer plays it up by showing that it is the Warrior's last resort. It's a neat bit of storytelling for this trailer and even some foreshadowing- they'll have to be the opposite of what they typically are to survive.
In FFXIV your character is the Warrior of Light. In Shadowbringers you learn that at any time the darkness or the light can become too powerful and destructive. I won't spoil it in case you decide to play it, but as you gathered from the trailer, you're fighting the forces of light. The main character in the trailers represents your character in the game. It is an online MMO and the controls (on computer) are pretty much the same as any other MMO. But it can also be played on PS4 and PS5. It plays very much like a single player game but there is group content that you have to do to advance the story. And the story is absolutely badass. Shadowbringers story rivals that of any big movies released in the past few years.
Ah, the problem of reviewing only the trailer without knowing the context of the subtle characters and significance of how things change from one expansion of the game to another. Playing through the game is a more enriched detail on the story without missing out on what is meant by each scene in the trailers themselves. Shadowbringer's seems by far the best thus far, not because its the latest in use atm but its the fact that you have been the Warrior of Light for the entire series, but now forced to change your ways due to circumstances of the new world you enter into.
Yes very true. Playing the game would give us a much richer experience ☺️ We May end up playing it even through we typically don’t play mmo. But even without any context the trailers were still beautiful 🤩
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Well I suppose you can get the whole story from the internet as long as you find a streamer that goes through it all. Hard part at this stage for the new comers to game is not to look ahead and spoil the storyline. After all, if you know someone lives at the end, it robs you of the story of potentially losing them in combat and such. Just noticed there were a few "head shaker" moments you two expressed and with no knowledge of the storyline its understandable, but they are subtle hinds or flashbacks of what has happened in story.
The whole original game end thing still blows me away, the red moon the dragon was inside in Flames of Truth was literally floating in the sky and players could watch it slowly get bigger in real time as it crashed down, leading to the trailer drop. That trailer justifies all the old players being saved by the old man, and anyone saved by him, AKA all the old players, got the option to put the R mark on their necks as a reward for sticking around since it's the man's symbol. Really cool stuff, I genuinely do dig it a lot.
Major props for them blowing up something that wasn’t working and taking the chance to start all over. Knowing that they may lose so many people by doing it. Seems like it worked out quite well in the end 😜🤑
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Oh yeah, it worked out so well that they actually got too many players joining in at the release of Endwalker and they had to actively de-list and stop advertising the game for a bit just to get the queue times down, because the servers literally didn't have room for that many players. After being remade, FF14 became so popular you literally couldn't buy it for a bit, lol!
Just started watching and heard you both mention Kingdom Hearts a lot, which I found interesting as Kingdom Hearts is actually a spinoff of Final Fantasy. Many characters from Kingdom Hearts such as Cloud, Leon and Sephiroth to name a few are originally from Final Fantasy. If you decide to give FF a try I hope you enjoy :)
We thought they were FF characters but had never played. Loved the first Kingdom Hearts. The other two were alright but probably would’ve been better had we known final fantasy stuff because they seemed to be featured more in it 🙃
One cool thing about these trailers is that emphasize aspects of the game. Each expansion adds a new class or two, and that is shown by the protagonist's changes in thier ropes and weapons/style of fight. New playable races are also added and when that happens the trailer makes sure it is clearly seen, for example in Shadowbringers trailer clearly showed the dancing girl with bunny ears. Because she is a viera, the new playable race that was added in the expansion. It's a good way to get even more information into the trailer.
To answer your questions about the furry ears haha, the rabbit-eared people are called Vieras, and before Endwalker, there were only females in game, both in the first game they appeared in, which is FF12 and in this game. Males exist (otherwise how else would they continue propagation :), but were never featured. The cat-eared people are called Miqo'te and are just cat people. The little people are called Lalafels, or Dwarfs in the alternate world. Players are divided on the existence of Lalafels. Half hate them because they look like gnomes and the other half adore them because they look like po-tay-toes. There are also other races that exist in game, but these are the ones that were featured here. To answer another one, yes, this game is online only. You can play for free! Up until level 60 and the end of the first expansion, Heavensward (where all those dragons were attacking that giant castle). There's no time limit and you can level every single class/job to level 60, which could take several hundred hours+, and continue playing after, but you won't be able to progress in the story past that nor level to the max level (currently 80, soon to be 90 in Endwalker). In order to access the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th expansions' stories, you will have to buy either Shadowbringers (which unlocks everything up until then) to start playing immediately, or preorder Endwalker (which will include everything prior as well) to play once that expansion is released this fall. If you buy Shadowbringers, however, you will still have to buy Endwalker. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend buying either if you don't have the time to spend because MMOs are a HUGE time sink and even the base game will take you probably 100-200 hours to beat depending on how you play. Another 50-100 hours for the first expansion. It took me 900 hours to go through the entire game but only because I spent a lot of time doing optional things in game and leveling different classes. For most players, it would probably take 250-300 hours. IF you do decide to get into it, however, I recommend just playing for free and seeing if you enjoy it, then buy Endwalker when it comes out so you don't have to buy it twice (essentially). There are two versions of the game on PC, which is the Steam version and Square Enix's version. There are very little differences between the versions and it's mostly to do with being able to buy optional items for the game. If you start on one version, you'll have to commit to that version for any future expansions. I'm pretty sure you guys play games on console, though, so that really doesn't matter, just download it on whatever console you use! it's a really fun game to together with each other and other people. I know plenty of couples that play the game together (you can even have your characters marry each other in game) and have a lot of fun interacting with people. It's really about playing how you want to play beyond progressing the story to unlock things.
Thanks for the info and explaining how the game works and advice for newbies like us. The trailers were really cool but not sure this type of game is up our alley 🙃🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames it's an 8-10 year old RPGMMO so there is a ton of content to explore. Now is a good time to try it if it is of interest. The game has a generous free trial and at the moment we are having a ton of new players coming to the game every day. Usually at this time before an expansion release things kinda wind down and it's more a lull period but with so many coming to the game it's very active.
technically FF tactics advanced is the first time viera appear, they were going through a hellish dev schedule on 12, and with the down time some of the teams made advance, and implemented some of the elements from 12 into FFT:A. though at that point in time they were more anthropomorphic overall ala the burmecian's in 9.
I've been playing for a year, my Warrior of Light/Darkness is a male cat boy. The entire story is absolutely amazing. I am ready for Endwalker. Got a lot of my jobs to level 80. This game is so much fun to play.
FFXIV is such an epic game! Definitely one of my top favorite Final Fantasy titles -- and Shadowbringers is probably my favorite expansion thus far, although Stormblood has my favorite trailer. The music throughout the entire story is amazing and so many emotional moments with a tale that keeps you invested. Believe me, if the trailers make you cry, the game will do that and more. I hope you both are able to personally enjoy it one day, however that may happen!
We may need up watching the cutscenes or if there are “movies” out for it that also incorporates necessary gameplay that would be option as well. Final fantasy is something we plan to get more into this year at some point 😅
I mean these kind of reaction channels probably wouldn’t play the goddamn game but if there’s a slim chance you guys play it, this game has one of the best story I have ever experienced and I highly highly recommend to play it.
We are working on getting some gameplay going on this channel. Playing AC Valhalla right now. Generally mmo doesn’t appeal to us but we heard FF focuses heavily on story and can mostly be played single player so we may give it a shot 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames play on the same world and you two can figure out the game together! It has a free trial through Heavensward as well, albiet with social restrictions, but it's extremely generous.
Forewarned is forearmed: This is a long post. Felt it is fitting to post this here, as it's related to the theme. :) While the game itself has lots of great action, emotion and fun-filled cutscenes in the MSQ (Main story Quests) , it is a MMORPG that, unlike standard gamers, requires a monthly fee to be played (save for the limited free-trial periods). Thus it may be less likely for you guys to play it in order to watch and react to them. Finding the scenes on Tube and watching them will surely only feel less immersive, since one need to have played the story up 'til those scenes to know what is, and has, happened, who those people are, why they do what they do, etc. One story there however, played via a Side-quest line, is real cool. It's about a inspector called Hildibrand (who is a Hyur, a humanoid race of the Highlander-type). Square Enix delivered a gold-coin with this character; he feels like a parody on classic detectives, spiced with a dose of slapstick- and humour in general. :D The cutscenes, as well as the dialogues outside them, are all text-based with no voice-acting, but in this case there feels no need for it either. -The comedy, laugh'able lines and silliness is just legend, in my opinion. ;)) If you wanna see the main cutscenes/cs'es only, with no immersing on the progress of the cases he tries to solve in between them, I got the links to some of them for recommendation: th-cam.com/video/eBu-c5o9F2c/w-d-xo.html
to answer your question (someone else might have by now lol). FFXIV is an MMORPG like WoW. You can create your character to be various races, of either genders. (there are two races that are gender locked, but they announced they will round them out in the next expansion). You also pick a starting class, but once you hit level 10 you have the ability to grab the other classes and level them too! (some are expansion locked and have different level requirements) As an MMO there is a heavy multiplayer element to it. Every dungeon requires a team of four, two dps, one healer, one tank. Don't worry about the nuance of that, the game system will sort you according to your class. *side note: this does mean you need constant access to the internet to stay logged into the game* But unlike other MMO's there is a huge main story quest progression, which aside from the require battles, is primarily single player driven. The main story (or MSQ) is the key to unlock more content, bosses, and expansions! So it's the most important thing! There is a slew of other stuff to enjoy in the game too! explore and have fun with it! I've had some friends come along for the journey recently, and it's amazing to see them discover something new! Oh yeah! There is a free trial that allows you to play A Realm Reborn and Heavensward completely free! The trial account locks you out of some things, such as joining guilds or talking in the shout chat. (these are their attempts to reduce BOT abuse.) But I definitely recommend it if you want to get your feet wet! You can upgrade to a paid account whenever you want, which is $14-15 USD a month
I never get tired of the ARR trailer. The music is fantastic. It’s so emotional, especially if one is familiar with the transition from 1.0 to ARR. it really hyped me up for the game.
As someone who knows everything about FFXIV and Final Fantasy in general, it's nice to see how the game looks to outsiders with no knowledge of it. :) Refreshing with all the craziness and tribalism going on in the online discussion about the game and the MMO community as a whole lately.
It is beautiful game and looks fun. Knowing more about story we’re sure the trailers mean more but sometimes you’re right that it’s nice to go back to what first got you hooked on a game ☺️
If you haven't played this yet you really should. The cat people or rabbit people etc are actually different races in the game you can play as. The main character constantly changing is in fact him changing up jobs, which there are like 30 in the game and you play all of them. From DPS, support. Healer or mages. This game has a very steep learning curve, but it's worth taking the time to learn it. Pick a race, customize your character and then pick your first job from so many. It's mainly PVE, but has PVP. You can play for free up to lvl 30 in just about every job. Definitely worth playing. You will fall in love with the story and characters in this game, and you will become addicted lol. All those trailers are actually expansions to the original story. Starting with a realm reborn.
I hope you guys get the chance the try it! I think you both would love it! That way you can feel the story even more! It’s been amazing to see all the new players (which we call “sprouts”)
The game is free to play, no time limit, all the way through Heavensward. If you really want to know the storyline....try out the first two parts...A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. It is quite fun and you can take your time with it. Hope you enjoy it if you play. :D P.S. edit---Crystal data center, Zalera world. Let me know if you want to try it out. Good to have someone answer questions if the need comes up. I will never spoil anything for you.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames well if you do...not gonna lie to you...the MainStoryQuest or MSQ will make you do dungeons, trials, and raids ---but still 85-90% of the MSQ can be done solo or if y'all wanna play together. There are also moments where you have to play minor fights by yourself and you can regroup afterwards. The game will also have job quests in addition to the grouping parts...these are designed to make you learn EVERY aspect of your jobs. A really big plus to the game is also you only have to make 1 character...all jobs can be done on one person.
Howdy guys! The cinematic you watched at the very beginning was the final cinematic for A Realm Reborn that was released after you beat the base game's story! The original one did not show the part after the old man died and was symbolic to the first iteration of the game ending and closing their servers. A follow up to that one took you into the future and showed off the world where you start the game after the reboot. The cinematic where the dragon was destroyed was after the final events of the base game that showed you the [Flames of] truth of what happened and why the world wasn't completely obliterated by Bahamut (the dragon) and Dalamud (the big rock the dragon was imprisoned in). No need to watch the other trailers or anything since it's pretty much the same thing but added on in parts. Really cool to finally see you guys react to this series. Thanks for the video and the reactions!
The second half of the first video (where Louisoix battles Bahamut) was a reward for people who had cleared some endgame content, it wasn't for everyone to see at first, Square Enix was asking people not to share it, or would simply block the video on TH-cam if it was posted for a while Since you were wondering about "wow they beat the dragon" to be a spoiler haha
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames No worries! Technically "Flames of Truth" is only the title of that second part, the first half was the normal trailer for A Realm Reborn. When you see the characters being teleported at the end of the trailer, the players who had a character in the first version of the game got a special little cutscene when they logged on A Realm Reborn for the first time, with their character reappearing years later (when new players wouldn't (instead they're just travelling normally to their start city)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Lol no worries, you guys weren't the only ones who have made that mistake, to be fair though, Zenos has excellent hair, and his face is pretty androgynous. :P

wow ff xiv, what a game literally had one of the worst launches and was thought to be a trashy game, but fast forward today, with a bit of revision and care, it's one of the best multiplayer rpgs out there

1.0 had bad gameplay but the story is still relevant
Yeah the Shadowbringer callback is amazing and then Endwalker's music pulling from each expansions themes is great
Also a nice detail is the fact there are no arrows in the quiver. I think that was supposed to be a reference to the whole 1.0 debacle. It was so bad it never got far and the Archer having no arrows was sybolic
cause 1.0 is still canon
The composer of the game soundtrack, Masayoshi Soken, was battling cancer while composing the music for the new expansion. He was in hospital for several months and only told two people about it, all of his other coworkers didn't know. And he kept writing music even in the months he was in the hospital 😭 He revealed this on stage at fanfest 2021 (where the team shows fans new things about the game) and the whole crew cried on stage, this team truly is amazing and I am feeling honored to be a tiny part of this even if I'm just a player ❤️
Lets hope Soken gets well soon
Thanks for sharing that story. Hope he gets better as well
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames hes in remission. hence why he was able to go to fanfest.
Soken isn't the only composer though, Uematsu composed some of the best songs in this game including Answers, Dragonsong, Fragments of Forever, Twilight over Thanalan and of course almost every song from previous FF game that are remixed into XIV.
In fact, the song to the edge, he wrote it expecting it to be his last.

We eventually have to fight and defeat the crown-prince of the empire ( He is that tall fellow with the long blonde hair)
- Shadowbringer: Has us come to the aid of a completely different dimension.
Midlander to be exact
Imma be real watching people who never played FFXIV react to the trailers and making their own small theories are super refreshing. If you guys ever do have the chance to play the game I 100% recommend it. It's a bit of a time dump, but a worth it time dump indeed.
We heard it can be a grind but free to play for first several levels in the game so that’s a bonus. We generally don’t do mmo but we may give it a shot 🤔🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames please do. It's not like other MMOs.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames When you think FF14 is a 'grind' .. never ever start playing WoW ...
Great minds think alike! 😁🥳
@@danh8804 Leave the "rendezvous" to Aenor and the Boulder Brothers ;)

I suspect other comments have answered your questions, but just to throw in:
The game is played in the third person.
And then there's insane people like me who does all of the above, savage raids, and what not 😂🙏🏾
@@Its_an_Eze I'm mostly in it for the story; in any given patch, it's always the MSQ content I'm most interested in. Between patches, I spend most of my time running roulette with my friends, or building my house, and hanging around making cool G-poses.

Well, if you unpack all revealed in Endwalker, you could think of it as one single lonnnng world ending spanning many eons.
I like to think each expansion all happens in the same month.
All of the legacy players in the game have a tattoo on their character that shows they are from another "world".
fun story:
On the initial release of the game it was very TERRIBLE there were many game breaking issues where it was quite unplayable. Then they switch out the director's and the current director Naoki Yoshida decided to wipe the slate clean. So the cinematic with the Bahamuth (the dragon you witnessed) was the answer to that by destroying the whole world (servers). It was cool to finally check out. Flames of Truth is one of best trailers of any fantasy game we’ve seen so far 🤩😍
Some context about the trailers:
The first trailer wasn't a trailer, it was the Flames of Truth which showed how the 7th Umbral Calamity happened and the ultimate fate of Louisoix Leveilleur who was trying to stop it from happening.
@@imaran1303 That's why I said they "unwillingly" got drawn into war with Garlemald.
We agree. Trailers were very entertaining. We aren’t big mmo players but the trailers are certainly epic 🤩
Quite a great way to destroy your game 😂🤩
That’s actually content you had to unlock. The regular trailer was End of an Era. It’s the same trailer as Flames of Truth but omits certain scenes.
17:20 “their totally gonna bang” when I tell you I SCREAMED just know I mean it
😂 we believe ya 😉
“Dude, why weren’t you using those powers to begin with?”
Well you see, Dark Knight kinda sucked for awhile…
Well it was more of doing the tried and true fight with the power of light, then when all else fails use the power of darkness.
@@efiniGTX yes, thank you. I understand the video.
@@efiniGTX Pretty sure they meant gameplay-wise, my guy
@@YaMamasAss i’m not “your guy” first of all. Dark knight was good in HW, then it turned to crap in SB, then got better in ShB. Even if you meant In that context, it doesn’t make sense. The power of darkness didn’t go away.
@@efiniGTX It was okay in HW, not great. It was just overhyped in that era and got better. And obviously it did if it got bad in SB lmao
And it's just a phrase, my guy. No need to get all whiny about it like some weirdo
I honestly thought I couldn't cry more than I did in Shadowbringer but Endwalker proved me wrong. I cried way more in Endwalker.
🥲🤗 this is a story and game we need to get more into 😊
"They're totally gonna bang" about the Wol and Lyse. I practically gagged 😂 I actually like Lyse a lot but more like a little sister haha
😂🤗
Let's be real, banging Lyse would suck. Right at the climax she'd scream "For Ala Mhigo!" or some shit lol
It's amazing to see so many people like Final Fantasy XIV content even when they dont know anything about it. This game has so many things to share, a top tier community very chill, one of the best story, music content, and more.
It's not rare to see people react on it or make content of it like musics, animation etc...
Best game so far o/
It’s insanely popular right now for good reason it seems 😀
We love it when trailers can affect both their player base and entice new players 🤩
If she's a she, she's pretty big - ShadowBringer trailer
Who's this? Does everybody afraid of her? - Endwalker Trailer
Oh- this is gold.
😂🤗
Sweet Summer Children
It's a man baby! His name is Zenos. The main antagonist and rival of your character.
Final Fantasy XIV online is an JRPG MMO available on PC Mac and PS4 and PS5. Completely cross-play so we all play together. It has been said that it is a JRPG first and an MMO second. Very story driven with MMO elements. I love this game and I also like trying to unravel the mysteries of the story. There is a free trial through the first expansion heavensward, so give it a try if you want. (that's level 60).
The fact that it is free and still story based is appealing for sure ☺️
Its a bit much without the actual gameplay , but man , FFXIV is a masterpiece, and the people behind it, the devs , are just...amazing. These cinematics make me so emotional because FFXIV is a major part of my gaming life. 15/10 would recommend playing :)
Love how you didn’t just stop at 11/10 and went full 15 😁 these trailers even not having played the game were amazing so can only imagine the feelings they elicit from those familiar with storyline 🤩
So glad yelled finally watched these awesome trailers!
I dunno if you plan on playing any of these but just to clarify some things for you:
In the first cinematic the dragon was sealed away not born.
As stated before by someone else, the person with the scythe is infact a guy :p
He is also the same guy that was wearing the flashy armor during the beginning of the shadowbringers cinematic
The guy riding the dragon in the endwalker trailer is definitely a good guy
The tattoo you saw on some of the characters identifies them as part of the 'Circle of Knowing'
"Sharlayan neck tattoos are a sign of having completed a high degree of education and being recognized as a Sage of that discipline."
And the story for this game is so massive it would difficult to explain it all without major spoilers:
But if you don't mind
*SPOILERS*
Long story short (for the last trailer and why everything was on fire), eons ago a world fell to pieces and now the world that the game mainly takes place in is experiencing the same catastrophe and the key to it all is on the moon (or something of that nature).
Definitely a ton of stuff to watch which means we won’t run out anytime soon 😇
A cool easter egg I never noticed. It may have been mentioned. The Asian city you liked is Kugane. As the scene is end there are two people standing on top of a tower. Thats actually in the game. They have jump puzzles. Its a pain to get up there and then you can jump off and try to land on a light pole for an achievement.
Hadn’t been mentioned before 😀
This is my favorite reaction channel!!! You and your wife are so adorable and I can just tell you have good hearts.
Awww, thanks so much! 🥰🤗🥳
(On a side note, the FF13 trilogy are some of my favorite FF games, but they were rather divisive among fans- there are just as many who hate them as who love them.)
That said, there are a few things that all FF games have that mark them as part of the series.
Oh cool. Good to know each final fantasy series is stand alone! Thanks for all this info 😃😎🥳
I disagree. The story is delivered in a easily understandable way. You can play at your own pace.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames watch Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailer, pleaseee
🥲
Thanks for all the info 😃🥳
The purple tattoos on everyone's face translates into "Sage". Long story short it's literally their PHD in their given field of study.
Cooler way to showcase it than a framed diploma 🙂
This is mistaken. The tattoo signifies membership in the now-defunct ‘Circle of Knowing’.
Matoya was invited invited but declined cause she still had beef with Louie and G'raha would of still been at the studium at this point in time.
you guys came through! Thanks for posting this after the request!
Our pleasure 🥳🥳
Good choices. Those definitely stood out to us and we can tell because we actually knew who you were referring to 😂🤗
19:58 "This might be the best so far"
Me: Can't wait to see their ShadowBringer reaction
Anyways yeah, you follow the same dude through out the trailers, the Warrior of Light. After the first trailer, where the 7th Astral Calamity happened, Bahamut blowing everything to hell, you're teleported 5 years into the future and everyone forgets who you are.
Also there's a reason Shadowbringers is one of the best expansions, if you don't want any spoilers skip this but:
The main world in the game is the Source, you travel to one of it's fragments, the First. One of my favorite quotes that he says, in a previous expansion where it's all introduced, is
"We did everything right! Everything that was asked of us but still! Still it came to this!."
I think that's how the quote goes, but yeah it's an amazing story and I highly recommend looking up all the cutscenes for Shadowbringers, it's amazing.
Also last thing, just wanted to point this out, the class in Endwalker, the one the Warrior of Light was using, is the Paladin, it's one of the best classes in the game, and is easily S-Tier
Thanks for sharing all that info with us 😃
The dragon at the start wasnt a new born.. its bahamut who had been sealed away for centuries. Hence why he so mad
The main guy is the same from all of them, The people with the Tattoos that all match are a group trying to "save the world"
Each Expansion or video showcases a different "job" a staple in most RPGs. The "girl" with the blond hair is a horrid bad Guy, he's also just "pretty"
Rewatch them at some point, you'll see a lot of the characters in each one or most of them anyway.
"Warrior of light" is a Final Fantasy Staple starting from FF1
Game play: Its a MMO, so online full time, Subscription based, but because of how much content, you can do a free trial and get all the way up to level 60, possibly higher, Current Level cap is 80.
Just fwi, Dark Knight was released in Heavensward not Shadowbringers. The showcase jobs of the Shadowbringers was the gunbreaker and dancer.
@@TaiLysana True, storylines run together, so mixed that up.
Ah okay. Thanks for adding some more clarification on that. Loved Flames of Truth cinematic 🤩
What a lot of people forget to mention is that FF XIV is a RPG first and the MMO part takes sort of second place. This blend is unique as it actually has a story and even the small sidequests got a small story and an explanation why you have to do them.
Which is why this might be first mmo we play as it is more rpg 😃
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Then you'll be in for quite a ride. So many cutscenes and you'll see your own char in it. Just one small tip: don't do all the small sidequests. Those can get boring and are more for leveling another class besides the first one. Also it is better to stick to one class as switching can burn you out (except when you discover that you absolutely don't like your first choice).
You guys were spot on about there not being a clear set distinction between who's wright and wrong. There is a lot of gray area with the characters and factions
Which always makes for the best story telling 🤩

So many people have been fleeing World of Warcraft for Final Fantasy XIV, that Square Enix has been forced to temporarily suspend sales of the game because the servers are being overwhelmed. Oceania is getting their datacenter and servers, but it won't be enough.
😯🤯
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames My server, Famfrit, has a login queue of 20-30+ during the day. That NEVER happens except when an expansion is out but it's not here yet. Some servers, right now, have queues as high as 400+ without an expansion release. When Endwalker hits in November, that could jump to 1,000+. No joke, SE needs to bring more servers online before November.
@@TheZorch It will be a disaster if they don't. Servers will topple like dominos. D: I exaggerate. (At least I hope it's an exaggeration!)
And they pointed out that the backlog has caused a prioritization of who gets the microprocessors and parts, at the top is military and government, then critical infrastructure (think banking farming telecommunications internet providers) then manufacturing industry and second to last priority is entertainment industry (private citizen ownership is dead last)
Big fan of the FInal Fantasy 14 Cinematics, and also a huge fan of you boths reaction!
Thanks! 😃🥳
These cinematics are so good! The game itself is amazing too, best MMORPG of all time imo.
😎🤟
I don't see it in any of the other comments so I may as well point it out: Alphinaud and Alisaie, the red and blue twins at the start of the Endwalker trailer, are the grandchildren of Louisoix, the guy who killed the dragon in Flames of Truth. And when Y'shtola (black dress catgirl) was arguing with the white robed elf about "Sharlayan keeping its counsel" - that's Fourchenault, the twins' father, and Louisoix's son. So you see three generations of the Levelleur family across these trailers.
Cool! Thanks for giving us the info on the family tree 😀
epic cinematics yes, but most hold story related moments that require context to truly appreciate
For sure. That’s the way it is for all the great fantasy games. We watched some WoW stuff and it had the same feeling. The Wrath of the Lich king in particular 🙃🥳
I love your reactions, they are amazing
Also side note the "girl" who fights the samurai guy and with the scythe are the same person also male, his name is Zenos and he is a main antagonist for stormblood and probably Endwalker as well.
😎🤟 Thanks for the info
Great Reaction! Thanks for doing all of them!
FFXIV has woven one of the better fantasy narratives in games in a long while. If you are ever interested, its a slow burn but so well crafted.
ps: Pretty Norman Reedus (love it) - Is meant to be a personification of the player.
😂🤗 Definitely looks like some complex characters and stories going on 😃
"Why weren't you doing that to begin with?"
The job that the Warrior switches to there is called Dark Knight.
The game is an MMORPG that is heavily story driven. It's available on PS4, PS5, and PC. I highly suggest playing it. The story is amazing.
😎🤟😃
😎🤟 another reason for us to get a PlayStation 😁
😎🤟
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames i mean it's free up to level 60 so you can try it and see if you like it like the previous comment said
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames it's an 8-10 year old RPGMMO so there is a ton of content to explore. Now is a good time to try it if it is of interest. The game has a generous free trial and at the moment we are having a ton of new players coming to the game every day. Usually at this time before an expansion release things kinda wind down and it's more a lull period but with so many coming to the game it's very active.
I see you trying not to say popoto xD
technically FF tactics advanced is the first time viera appear, they were going through a hellish dev schedule on 12, and with the down time some of the teams made advance, and implemented some of the elements from 12 into FFT:A. though at that point in time they were more anthropomorphic overall ala the burmecian's in 9.
I've been playing for a year, my Warrior of Light/Darkness is a male cat boy. The entire story is absolutely amazing. I am ready for Endwalker. Got a lot of my jobs to level 80. This game is so much fun to play.
😃😎🤟🥳
I keep coming back to this video. I really love these reactions
Thanks so much for sharing the links and helping explain the story a bit more to us, Espen! 😃🥳
to answer your question (someone else might have by now lol). FFXIV is an MMORPG like WoW. You can create your character to be various races, of either genders. (there are two races that are gender locked, but they announced they will round them out in the next expansion). You also pick a starting class, but once you hit level 10 you have the ability to grab the other classes and level them too! (some are expansion locked and have different level requirements)
As an MMO there is a heavy multiplayer element to it. Every dungeon requires a team of four, two dps, one healer, one tank. Don't worry about the nuance of that, the game system will sort you according to your class.
*side note: this does mean you need constant access to the internet to stay logged into the game*
But unlike other MMO's there is a huge main story quest progression, which aside from the require battles, is primarily single player driven.
Yeah we might actually give this mmo a try since it seems to be more story focused than others 🤔🙃
Final fantasy is fun old and new, each has it's own merits. You got to watch the other trailers!
😎🥳
We’ve been told that this isn’t a typical mmo which has us more interested in it. Plus being able to play for free for awhile as well 🤔😊
This was my first try at a mmo and this has got to be my second favourite game of all time. And I mainly play rpg.
Glad to hear it as we don’t play mmo and like rpg so it’s nice to know that someone like us enjoyed this game despite its game mechanics 😃
I hope you guys get the chance the try it! I think you both would love it! That way you can feel the story even more! It’s been amazing to see all the new players (which we call “sprouts”)
Future sprouts! 🥰
Thanks so much. Not sure if and when we will play but definitely more interested after hearing it’s free and not just a strict mmo game 😃
The second half of the first video (where Louisoix battles Bahamut) was a reward for people who had cleared some endgame content, it wasn't for everyone to see at first, Square Enix was asking people not to share it, or would simply block the video on TH-cam if it was posted for a while
Since you were wondering about "wow they beat the dragon" to be a spoiler haha
Oh nice. Thanks for sharing that info. It’s nice getting little more history on game from community standpoint 😎
Yay bahamut my fave eidolon, he was abit unhappy being imprisoned
Fair enough 🙃
Loved the reaction guys like always.
I just love how people who never played ffxiv calls Zenos a girl, he has long hair, so they must be a girl. XD
