    You want the best affordable pilot (flieger) style watch? This is it, pick 42 or 39 mm and go for it. The next step up is a big one and will be closer to 1k, so these keep me in the comfort zone.

    Nice review.
    There’s no doubt that these are the best value Flieger or B-Uhr style watches right now. You get the heritage (Laco made them for the Luftwaffe in WW2), a customized automatic movement, display back, sapphire, a lovely finished case all for 10% of the cost of an IWC.

    I once had an interest on the 39mm type a Aachen.. even other Lacos at the sub $600 price.. But felt they truly cut corners. there were better alternatives considering the materials (used to be mineral crystal), movement and price. Such as a second hand stowa classic, archimede, steinhart, Hamilton.. to name a few. If you love Laco and it’s history, they can be picked up used at a more fair price.

    I love it when a watch has rotor noise, ticking noise, or loud winding. It is somewhat comforting to me. Awesome strap pairing also. Those thick leather straps are so often too short for my 8.5” wrist. Pretty cool watch. Definitely easy to read!

    42mm is perfect modern wearable. Size. For this style of flieger watches. It should be big, and the large dial layoutakes it already wear larger. Bit, it isn't ridiculously large which 44, 45 & 47mm (& larger) flieger can be.
    I've only seen pics, but I've studied the 39mm versions and I think they may be a bit too small for a Flieger. Additionally, u don't like J believe they scales the strap size down to 18mm on the 39mm. As such, the double rivets on the strap are not scaled down with the strap and they overlap the contrast stitching outline a bit.. Doesn't look like they fit on an 18mm wide strap.
    Anyways, Laco makes some great flieger. They are one the original 5 flieger makers too which add to the legit historic nature of them. I personally prefer their classic flieger which are more direct reproductions of the WW2 versions, especially the erbstruck version that has the added faux wear and tear, but it's done nicely, but also quite a bit more expensive at over $2k.
    They have a cool special RAD-LUX edition I think based off of the popular Fallout video game. Expensive, but cool concept Flieger that is unlike any other.
    Look for the upcoming white dial versions which look prett cool, too. May possibly be full lume dial on those and they have some that will have that worn look too for more $$.

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@derrasse3072 I was looking at the 39mm Laco's at one point. But, if I recall correctly, they also scaled down the strap proportions and using 18mm straps. Idk, that's unfortunately a but too petite for a Flieger, imho, and I wouldn't want to waste my vast 20mm strap options I already have.
      Thus, 42mm, at far as Laco is concerned, is a choice size.

    Hello, do you guys recommend this watch with the Miyota 821A (basic movement) or Miyota 8315(50 euros extra)? Does it hack with both or neither?

  • @Lee_K_5555
    @Lee_K_5555 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have burned out on diver watches, so my current focus of interest is with pilot watches. Laco makes the most faithfully inspired (but not reproductions) for the original 1940s flieger watches (they are much smaller for real-world application as the originals were a massive 55 mm in diameter). The budget-friendly Augsburg (A-dial) and Aachen (B-dial) watches are still great representations of the flieger design, with 39 and 42 mm cases and several different iterations in regards to case and dial finish. I own both an Augsburg and an Aachen and adore them. The legibility is outstanding, the C3 Super-LumiNova glows brightly, the crystal is sapphire (no AR coating, though), they have exhibition case backs, and the Miyota 821A automatic movement is actually fairly accurate. The unfortunate drawback is that the movement doesn't hack, which is something I think an aviation watch should do and something the original flieger watches did as well. I don't know why Laco chose this movement over say the Seiko NH38, but it is what it is and like the SXK and the Omega Speedmaster, one can use back-pressure on the crown to stop the movement and set the time pretty accurately.
    I'm a big fan of Laco and think these are great, utilitarian watches and a welcomed reprieve from the constant diet of diver watches we enthusiasts tend to gravitate towards. Also, Tisell makes a 40 mm watch that is the bargain of the entire genre of flieger watches for a little over $200 if one is interested in something less expensive.
