Thank you very much. I have ZERO mechanic skills and even less money. I couldn't afford the alternator.. Let alone a mechanic. With this video I was able to keep my families only car on the road. Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this helped me.
Thanks for the video. I was afraid I was doing it wrong, but then you said " at this time you will be cursing and wishing you hadn't started a project." Then I knew I was doing it right.
Unfortunately what you should have recognized was it's highly possible that he was not doing it correctly. The correct way to remove the alternator on that year of caliber is to remove the power steering pump from it's bracket and lay it on top of the engine. Then you will have 5x the room to get the alternator out. No fighting it to get it out. The ac compressor does not need to be removed. You can't do it that v way but it's not the smart way nor the less time consuming way.
I finished with my niece's car about 4 hours ago and hope I never have to do another one! Your video was a great help especially the warning about swearing and "it will come out", I was really questioning that statement for about 45 minutes then twist, tug, puff it was out. But then you have to get the new one in, say a prayer, chant a spell, swear a little and puff it's in. Now comes the hard part the compressor bolts, I removed the oil filter for some room, I did an oil & filter change too, didn't need it but i could not put the used filter back on. Thanks again
Thank you very much for this video!! I am very much a novice mechanic and this was incredibly helpful. If I can offer any advice to people trying this is just remember to do it in reverse and not get frustrated. It’s a tight fit to get the new alternator back in but with some time and effort you can do it too!! Good luck and thank you 😁
So the red tab connected to the alternator you have pull the red tab out it’s a bit of a struggle but use a flat head screwdriver and it should help after the red tab is slid out there will be a little black squares button under the now pulled out red tab. Squeeze the black button and it should come out. Hope this helps!
That bottom bolt on the alternator just keep spinning for me. The nut is off the back side and it's near impossible to get a hammer on the back side to pound it out. Any recommendations??
does the tab have to be pushed in to release or held down to release the connection from the compressor? the tab is broken from the previous owner I've tried everything to get it off
I'm not sure how you got the AC compressor out of the way. All bolts are removed, and it's hanging free, did you completely remove it? because it sounds like you just moved it out of the way, and I can't seem to get that to happen.
Yes! But you have to remove the power steering pump AND remove the motor mount bolt, (that goes horizontally through the center of the motor mount is easiest!) AND AND then Jack your motor up enough to make enough room for it to be wiggled out! And there will STILL ba LOTS OF CUSSING AND HOLLERING!....... Which is how I did it! Lol... So...... It may just be easier to do it from the bottom as described above!
i did this recently and it was no fun at all. I tried removing the power steering line but suddenly realized that the ac compressor would be easier. Thanks to the cut resistant gloves that I had on my hands.
hey! Someone can tell me how many botl the alternator have ? Because i ve finded 2 (left side from the top) but the altnernator look like hang on with another one but i cant find it ...
Awesome video, straight to the point...I am on my way to change the alternator on an 07...will use this method, let u know how this turns out...thanks.
You make that look way too easy! I have this exact problem with my 2010! You wanna come do mine!? Warminster PA! Having severe anxiety because of this problem is about to cause me to lose my job ! Need Help!!!
omg.... I'm having a hard time removing that electrical wiring from the back of alternator.in your video the red tab is ....like it is pull out while mine is all in. you can only see the top. tried to pull it out but doesn't moved. fry it no luck. I am stuck here. I need help.........what would I do to take it off.
Slot said then done when you're working off the floor it's a nightmare I can't even get to the back of the alternator to loosen the wires I even got the alternator completely detached the AC dropped and I still can't get to it and it's pouring down rain
My tab didn't move forward or back 😂, completely destroyed it. But once it's in it still stays in. What a stupid design... Best way from how I look at it now is to push it downwards as much as you can, then push it towards the casing so the hooks in the mechanism detaches then follow up with the same motion. Man what a mission it took me. 😂😂👌
+ManicMechanic007 tight spaces was a big one cause i have big hands. The worst is that the alternator bottom bracket is more like a cradle so trying to keep the alternator in there and getting the top bolt done up as a challenge
There's a big problem . You went about it the wrong way. Yes you can remove the plastic lower panel to get to the belt tensioner but you do not remover the ac compressor. You can actually remove alternator and the belt without getting on the ground at all. If you remove the power steering pump and move it out of the way by resting it on top of the engine you will have 5x the room and no wrestling the alternator to get it passed the AC Compressor. The alternator will easily come out through the top of the engine bay. No need to get mad an curse when you remove it the right way.
Thank you very much. I have ZERO mechanic skills and even less money. I couldn't afford the alternator.. Let alone a mechanic. With this video I was able to keep my families only car on the road. Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this helped me.

Yea I love it

Some good advice too, make sure your face isn’t directly under the alternator when you’re pulling it out.
So the red tab connected to the alternator you have pull the red tab out it’s a bit of a struggle but use a flat head screwdriver and it should help after the red tab is slid out there will be a little black squares button under the now pulled out red tab. Just wanted to send some love and thank you for the tips along the way.
This made a difficult job a little easier! Much appreciated!
Thanks for explaining how to remove it from the bottom in 3 minutes, instead of 15 minutes or removing all the parts from the top.
I once wrestled with a Honda Odyssey alternator for at least 30 minutes. Cuts, scratches, and sweat. Looking back it is pretty funny.

Thanks. Just used your video, helped significantly. Wire connector tab is tricky. Push red slide back, squeeze in and pull.
Best video I've seen on this. Thanks for the upload!

What do you call that part that covers the alternator? Mine is gone and when it rains my alternator gets wet
This shit is crazy... what happened to pull the belt off... three bolts... and put the belt back on.... thought this was an American car...
Chrysler is by far the worst car company on the planet... Human beings are too stupid to realize it. Thats why they continue to sell cars.
Do you disconnect the wires before you drop it? Didnt show that...
Are you not able to get it from the top by removing the power steering pump, or no?
This is the 3rd time I've had to replace my alternator and can never get it out as easy as you show it here lmao
does the tab have to be pushed in to release or held down to release the connection from the compressor? the tab is broken from the previous owner I've tried everything to get it off

Trust me it wasn’t a fun job to say the least
Not enough room from the bottom. Different design on mine
Thanks. You were 100% right about the cursing part
What are the torque specifications for the alternator bolts thank you

Better than most utube vids, xlint
Is it possible to do this from above?

Hi
My dodge is making a buzzing sound and engine rattles when i step on the gas.
I did in 3 and yes is difficult..good job man.
i did this recently and it was no fun at all. I tried removing the power steering line but suddenly realized that the ac compressor would be easier. Thanks to the cut resistant gloves that I had on my hands.
It wasn’t a fun job that’s for sure
Great video watched the video once and then completed very good video i nvr tried to take the alternator from the top but this way is pretty easy

how did it go?

Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much man your video helped me like crazy
Thank you!
Ok how do I put the serpentine belt on while the engine is in the car, easiest and less painful 2007 dodge caliber
Once the belt is line up, last piece to slide on is by the pulley release part I did it with a adjustable easy and quick.
thanks brother. quick helpful hint. make sure to log your serpentine belts original position lol.
Always take pictures
good vídeo man, contra. no to long and bla bla, is specific.
good
Quickest one
Thank you for the info......
Yoooo thank you
Thanks made job easy
You never, EVER, remove the positive cable first. That's how you end up buying a new CPU!!!!
Jesus christ 😂
Great help. Thanks.
Damn that seems like a lot of work lol… I mean dodge made it hard for mechanics to get the job done too
😂 sure did I'm doing it today
My tab didn't move forward or back 😂, completely destroyed it. But once it's in it still stays in.

Omg thank you
thx bud!
You droped the ball on telling us what size to use towards the end
Reminds me of the alternator location on V6 Ford Escapes - not fun.
+ManicMechanic007 tight spaces was a big one cause i have big hands. The worst is that the alternator bottom bracket is more like a cradle so trying to keep the alternator in there and getting the top bolt done up as a challenge
What a pain this job was for me.
Those transverse mounted engines are no joy at all
+BuddyLe3 Your honda is the same way isn't it
+jerry bskorner sure is
Doing this right now that red connector a bitch
