The late 2000s were such a great time for gaming, I honestly replay more games from that era than I play modern ones (of course, it's personal preference, but to me this was a great time for gaming)
Isaac looks more exhausted in the original, the shadows on his beaten face work so well compared to the remake. Plus Nicole’s jumpscare seems too slow.
Not only that the jumpscare is predictable and the lighting is too bright like barely effort in it. The old one actually got me because it was quick, loud and straight to the point.
Dead space originals jump scare wasn’t that scary nor the game its self because you already played it like 1 million times It was a-lot more unpredictable in the remake because of the ai director plus not all was it enemy spawn and trap placements like l4d 1 and 2 It got me quivering at times despite the enemy’s not being a whole lot menacing Because the game if you play it is way WAYYY DARKER in game rather than on camera gamma doesn’t help until its recordered and edited for footage but god most cases i legit had me wondering if an enemy was near me and i just couldn’t tell…. Plus the sounds design is amazing….
Yeah that animation was way too slow. Showing her for a couple sceonds before the jumpscare could have worked better if they had done something to invoke a sense of dread. Cover her in the shadows a little, make her look a bit more demonic and have her twitch slightly before attacking Isaac just as quickly as in the original. That's how the scene would have been a hundred times scarier. Nicole seemed kinda off to me anyway. I feel like her actress didn't really do the best job, especially in the scenes where Isaac "meets" her she seemed a bit cold and awkward, whereas in the original she seemed much more warm and welcoming. Imo the latter suits the narrative of the Marker using an illusion of her to brainwash Isaac much better. Also while I know it's an iconic line for the franchise they should have either thrown out her "make us whole" lines or at least hidden them somewhere in the dialogue more subtly
I definitely prefer Nicole's original design as well, not that this take on her is a complete failure. Her original performance which seems like someone way more sweet and caring, really outshines the new one, too, sadly.
The Issac in the original ending was more fitting imo. The way he takes a moment to slump into his chair, has to cover his face and just look ahead expresses how exhausted, shocked and grief stricken he is was realistic and well done. Remake Issac looks tired yeah, but less shocked and more relieved that he got through the whole ordeal. I won't bother talking about the jumpscare, because we all know which one was better in terms of scare factor.
Only thing better about the og dead space is the hive mind fight, I don't think anyone wants to play through the horrible og leviathan boss fight again
I think what makes the remake one kinda lame is that we can see her move, and it looks somewhat natural. In the original, you can barely see her and then she teleports straight to your face (also I dont think her reaching over to Issacs space works well)
The remake game is great but it took the core off (Or part of it). It took away Kendra's paranoia. Hammond's leadership. Raw and tachycardia horror. Add more drama to the story and script. Lame jumpscare at the end. The rest I have mix feelings. It did a great job on graphics, gameplay, weapons, suits, etc. But the horror I saw it lacking.
man totally agree. Visually the remake looks objectively better. But from an atmospheric point of view, the original had much better camera play and moments.
@@fr.Angel21 So are you going ignore the objective improvements? Like, less backtracking, no asteroid section, more interconnected Ishimura, better exploration, better Zero-G sections, added heartbeat that speeds up and slower depending on the situation, that goes along brilliantly with the breathing. I seriously don't know what you mean by lack of horror?? The lighting, sound and graphics make a much bigger impact that you seem to make out. You need to use your flashlight because if you don't you can't see anything. This makes a huge difference to me. I feel this is either down to nostalgia, or the fact that of course, it isn't going to be as scary as the first time we all played DS. But no doubt, from the first few hours I have played, the remake is better in almost every single way. The original is still phenomenal of course, but the remake has improved so much.
@@spookyperson7096 well they made her look towards how she looked like in DS 2 but older.... still the remake nicole just doesn't look as good as her actual face model and its the same with gunner wrights because he looks bland with barely any detail and thats not a shot at gunner wright himself but the ingame model lacks any detail that the original isaac had but obviously the remake isaac has better graphics but on a surface level original isaac looked more detailed
Because the original was a dumb jumpscare. The remake is playing more on the emotional weight of loss and trauma as well as disbelief of what is happening from Isaacs POV. It's fair to say he may be less reactive stylistically due to being deeply shocked that it has caused he to be numb or what could otherwise be described as PTSD, which is especially convincing given the ishimura events and the possibility she coud actually be alive or at very least portray Isaac as struggling to tell what is real anymore. I mean, considering Nicole's position on the ship and all the subsequent stories told within it surrounding the downfall, it all adds up. It's tragedy mixed with horror, not just a cheap jumpscare. The devs knew this and know it is also world building so they don't have to punctuate the game with a "bang" with such a vague horror-y ending. Personally, I think Isaac has been set up to be a harder character than the original but is consistent with the sequels. If Isaacs was reacting how he would have in the cut scenes, he would have been consumed by the marker-induced psychosis, the remake paints a person who is deeply shocked but, despite all that, still manages to carry on. The only difference is this sets up a sequel remake where he potentially could show more signs of being worn down and more consumed by the markers lasting effects.
The original made you absolutely crap yourself with how unexpected, quick, loud, and creepy it was. The remake made it look more like she was trying to give him a hug, or was reaching over him to grab the tv remote or something like that. Generally this remake is absolutely amazing, but this was a bit of a downgrade from the original ending. I do like the alternate ending though, that was a good idea and was genuinely very off-putting, so fair play to them for that.
I feel in original, Isaac is more stressed by his harrowing experience w Necromorph (blank stare, beat up face), while in remake he seems more depressed on losing Nicole (crying and closing eye).
In the original screamer was out of nowhere and Nicole doesn’t look like herself. Jumpscare for the sake of jumpscare. First time I saw it I didn’t get that it’s Nicole, and some necromorph that got on the ship. In the remake you get Nicole voice, and an escalation in madness. At first, it was video fragments, then altered Elizabeth into Nicole, and in the end, full Nicole hallucination
that kind of InYourFace straight, quick, and body terror of the original is absent in the Remake; And that method was Glen Schofield's signature horror and I'd say it's not fair to expect another dev (Motive) pull off another director's creative vision; Yet the absence of that kind of horror in some parts of the remake (Ending jump scare, death of Jaobe Temple, THAT scream in the elevator and more) kinda disappointed me; Yet the overall horror in the remake was totally on-point with the OG.
The original ending is wayyy better than Remake ngl. Isaac's face kinda scared/terrified and the Nicole's jumpscare is unexpected and we barely see her where she is, her position i mean
@@AntiSocialismo50 that's an insanely stupid reasoning, dawg. that way you could argue that every horror moment in the remake has the freedom to be underwhelming (they aren't, thankfully) just because we played the original and know what's gonna happen like, lmao?? the fuck does that even mean
The ending for the remake is lame compared to the original. The Nicole's movements and screeching in the original was so inhuman and unnatural which added more to the creepiness factor, whereas the remake version makes it look like Isaac just got pranked.
Don’t forget the actual scream too, the original scream goes over the remake’s “scream” which was literally just the voice actress making a “scary” noise as opposed to the heavily distorted static scream of the og.
I suppose because even the devs didn’t know what that meant. It was a jumpscare for the sake of it. In the remake, we all know what’s coming. We all know what Nicole being there means.
Original is better than remake, when isaac feel something beside him, went straight to jumpscare with the effect. Remake the other hand, delay for 5 second then jumpscare without effect. But nicole jumpscare position in remake is more make sense than crouching
This definitely is probably one of my only few let downs about the remake. But my major one is in the original there is clear wear and tear from Isaac's experience. In the remake he looks just as fine as when he arrived and none of the experience is reflected on him except for his expression.
To be fair he did have his helmet on 99% of the time so his hair and face would remain the same. The helmet is sealed tight for him to maintain O2 in space so if that's the case no damage or dirt is going to go through so it's going to look the same.
It's not so much wear and tear, Isaac just looks so different now compared to his original design. At the start of the original game, you can rotate the camera before Isaac puts his helmet on. Compare it to when he takes it off at the end, you'll see no difference.
@@GrandmasterDevo What's funny is that Isaac's design was based on the same guy in Dead Space 2-3 _and_ this remake (Gunner Wright). The original Dead Space is the only one that used a different person (Max Shippee).
No doubt that this is a very well made remake. But in many instances, the original had better moments. Like the final scare. In the remake the camera was too slowly turning and you could already see and prepare for her. In the original it was much more intense and quick and shocking. Also the escape from the surface scene. Yes visually the remake looks more sharp and modern. But the the decision with the new camera angles made it feel less intense. Also while Isaak was sitting in the cockpit. It gave a way better feeling of the emptyness of space than the remake with it''s close up shot the "camera" following the movement of his head. Dunno why they had to change these.
Prepare to jumpscare is better than see it quickly and shitting only first 2 seconds. When camera turns too slow and you know what happens next, you prepare for it. You see Nicole but she does nothing but you actually prepared and get some scared. After that Nicole attack Isaac and you got second dose of adrenaline
@@frostycrystal5118 If you prepare for it and know it's coming, it isn't a jumpscare anymore. It isn't even a scare anyomre. It's like saying that it would be better for roller coasters to be flat and have only a horizontal straight path, becuase it is much safer and you can enjoy the surrounding landmarks better since you are not going so fast.
@@robertschaffer596 Maybe you're right. I just hate only jumpscares, cuz this is just to scare the kids. I love it when in horror movies or games they gradually increase the atmosphere, put pressure on the psyche with all sorts of creepy sounds or creepy melodies, images, but without jumpscares or with this, but only like a cherry on the cake
@@frostycrystal5118 I'm totally with you. I hate them too. Because thy are the cheapest of tools to make a movie or game scarry. And is usually being used by people who have no better ideas or who are not creative enough. Sadly there are not more games out there which are more scarry from an atmospheric point of view or mentally like Amnesia games or Soma. But i was only speaking about that specific scene in Dead space. :)
it funny to, because the model for isaac in the remake, was also the model for isaac in two and three, gunner wright, the original model for isaac in the OG was Max Shippee, just give isaac a beard and some grey hair and he'll look relatively like his two and three counterpart
I disagree on that point actually. The OG version looks like they could be a marine (which makes more canonical sense considering he survived the Ishamura while a stock EE + ME would probably die pretty fast). New version actually looks nerdy enough to have gotten the schooling for both mechanical and electrical engineering, and I know cus I'm friends with a lot of EEs and MEs.
The original was scarier because it was brand new. With the remake, you're expecting the scares due to past experience, so it softens the blow when the scares happen.
@@GrandmasterDevohm no, the tension is better in the original, there's no hint with Nicole talking before a very obvious jump scare, in the original you just hear a little slither noise and then she's screaming at the screen, the original was just better
Everyone is talking about the jumpscare comparison and how the original one is better, which I do believe the original is scarier in terms of actually scaring the player. People are saying the new one is bad but hear me out: Think about it in Issac's perspective, he's just been through an entire ship load of twisted deformed shells of the people within the Ishimura, after been through hell and finally making it through alive after killing a creature he never thought would be possible let alone exist, and by a narrow chance he made it out alive and okay. After taking a moment to finally sit down and breathe and take his helmet off, he sees his girlfriend's body sitting right next to him. Imagine sitting in Issac's seat and you turn your head and see the body of someone you know can't be there. Even if you knew it wasn't real, seeing it suddenly turn and reach out for you while screaming would scare the living hell out of you. I do believe the original is more scary and unnatural with how fast and loud it is, but at a realistic perspective this is still scary. Before anyone jumps at me being a hater or mad, I'm not, I like both versions. I'm just trying to break the new one down in Issac's perspective.
Apart from graphics, the direction of the original in this scene was SO much better. The camera from far away, the shadows on Isaac's face and Nicole hiding behind the seat and suddenly teleporting made it much more frightening.
As most here have said, the original ending is best but I do think having Nicole sitting in the chair with her head laid back...her face out of focus is a very creepy visual that I like a lot. Can't wait to see what Motive do for the second game!
The remake ending could have worked if we had a solid 1 additional minute of normal stuff to really install a feeling of "ok, it's over, I'm safe" and after all that time just have Nicole in the background without the camera focussing on her and then the jumpscare. As is it, we're still not cooled off from the necromorphs and a (slightly) blooded human simply jumping at us is nowhere near as scary as what just happened a minute and a half ago.
I expect they created the ending in the remake with the knowledge of the fact that everyone had already experienced the jump-scare in the original, so since people knew what to expect, they leaned less on a fast jump scare, and more on a slow creepy vibe.
I think the reason the jumpscare is weaker in the Remake is that the scare factor is not what they were going for. The original was a straight-up jumpscare made to make you shit your pants. The Remake is more psychological, because despite Isaac being safe, it's a grim reminder that the Marker screwed his mind permanently and that regardless of everything, this was *not* a successful mission. It's like the game itself was telling you "Hey, you did it but you lost EVERYBODY and your head is permanently screws! Congrats!" and that's why I prefer it to the original. It seems more fitting for the game.
I will always prefer the original version of this ending over the remake version, especially since the jump scare in the original haunted me for days. Also, I don't like how Isaac looks in the remake.
A lot of years ago I played in pirate version of "Dead Space" with Russian localization. And there was another ending. There wasn't "walking dead wife". At the end he looks for the dark corner of cabin (not at the seat near him). And something unexpectedly attacks him from this corner. May be localizators decided that "walking dead wife" is not good choice? But may be developers made few version of endings for different countries?
While the remake did well leading up to Nicole's "return," I still argue that the original wins out. The remake would work if Dead Space had just been a zombie game, but it just feels lacking. The original, Nicole was almost waiting for Isaac to notice her, before she pounced, that and how the screen gets filled with those marker symbols and how her scream sounds so twisted, just adds to the "Oh shit! It's not over!" factor.
Yeah, the original ending is better. in the remake,it looks like she's talking to get his attention ,then leaning over to give him a big ole adorable hug and just screaming in his face which isn't scary. the original shocks you with yelling in yours and gets in your face, filling your screen with symbols and a bright blur with lights coming out of her mouth and eyesockets like a scary skull jack-o-lantern that you don't expect...Same thing in dead space 2 as well when you encounter her many times unexpectedly in the game.
Beyond what people have mentioned already, I really like the originals take because it makes more sense that Isaac is finally coming to terms with his GFs death. The video player is already up and it auto plays, you can feel the impact Isaac has knowing what it really is now, and he goes to turn it off. That seems way more impactful IMO than Isaac turning on his player, watching the first little bit like he always does, then turns it off, implying no character growth or coming to terms with all that just happened. Obviously the 'jump scare' in the remake was seen miles away cus of the way it was done, which I get, we all knew it was coming as this is a remake. But I will say I much prefer the feeling of the OG where instead of Isaac hearing his GF, he just senses a presence off to his side and instead of seeing the ghost of his GF next to him in the seat, its some twisted incarnation of his gf inhumanly perched to the side of the seat, way more freaky IMO.
@Jedley01 Yeah, I'm totally gonna trust the guy who hasn't even touched it instead of the 50 reviewers who've said it's basically the RE remake of Dead Space.
Nicole attack aside, the remake of the face models make me choose the original ones, I know that they can't have the same face that 12 years ago but I prefer the less Poly version of Issac and Nicole,is so strange seeing an Isaac without beard and a Nicole that…it doesnt looks like the one of DS2.
@@thebigenchilada678 Atmosphere is why the original dead space received praise, not jump scares. Games and movies that leverage jump scares are a dime a dozen and it's the laziest/cheapest form of horror bar none. Watching a video of the chapter 12 playthrough from the original having played the remake one could easily deduce that this team aced their remake, because while it was likely a limitation of 360 era hardware the fact still remains that the new dead space has far more horrific lighting, environments, and sound design.
Original ending is so much better, in the remake you see "nicole" for way to long before she jump you unlike the original where you only see her very short time before she jumps you and the sound in original also just makes it more scary.
This part was just weird. They made every lighting dark and realistic but his face. Isaac's face looks like he just got out of an intense shit instead of being mentally and physically exhausted. He looks like a ken doll in the remake. But the jumpscare is something else. That was the slowest and the most casual jumpscare in the entire game. This jumpscare could be fixed with a simple flash bang and it'll be a better jumpscare 100%, make it faster too. Also they replaced the marker text with the voice line.
The original plays psychological games with the player. But I feel like the remake plays psychological games with Isaac himself. The Remake really shows how Isaac began to go insane.
I'd say it's better than the Remake jumpscare ending. But Christ, what's the point of an alt ending when you already have a pretty good chronology of the entire franchise?
I honestly find it fascinating that in the Remake they downgraded every minor detail from the Original. Original's jumpscare is subtle and scary cause it looks unreal and disturbing while Remake's ending looks like Isaac's wife is mad at him for coming home late. Original had so much more charm in many aspects.
The remake's may not scare the sh*t out of us, but it does to Isaac. Imagine when you were there, just replayed you dead GF log, then heard your dead girlfriend next to you, then she fcking jumped at you.
I liked both. I do agree though, the original is better. At least the ramake tried because, we already knew what was coming. Which is still an improvement. However, for the alternative ending. That's a completely different story, it's actually creepy enough to have that spine chilling moment knowing that the marker actually got Isaac, and he's literally going insane. It was even mentioned after the events of DS1 when Earth gov found Isaac floating in the middle of nowhere in space, he was insane.
I liked the original ending rather than the remake, to me the scene going quiet and then Isaac looking to right and then Nicole jumping out at you really got me. The whisper of Nicole and her dead body in the co-pilot really doesn't scare much and you kinda anticipate it.
The original was better, the remake's scariest part was Isaac looking over to see her sitting next to him staring, but the actual jump wasn't as scary.
i have to say as someone who has only played the remake, the original does a much better job at conveying isaacs emotions. remake isaacs face barely moves...
quiero pensar que en el remake lo hicieron así, porque el screamer es brutal en el original, literal, nadie se lo esperaba, y quiero pensar que decidieron hacerlo mas despacio en el remake para evitar posibles problemas legales o algo asi
Honestly, I like the older one. They removed something in the new one too, sometimes enemies would play dead when you killed them, so you'd always be paranoid if they actually died or not. Added more to the horror.
Who ever knew people had so many opinions on a two second moment. Obviously its not gonna scare you if you played the old game. You know it's coming that why re4 remake is moving encounters and story beats. To me since the devs know they'll get a sequel to make they are doing the whole glowing eyes and mouth thing or even movements of the og which dead space 2 had to run with. Given how good the alt ending was I think they have a good idea of how to make ds2 scarier than the og. And Nicole looking this unsettling is critical
It is incredible how retarded the "remake gang" is argumenting pro remake ending in this comment section. Just because we already know the jumpscare from the original doesnt excuse to make it this lazy, this predictable (we see Nicole for a whole 3 seconds (!) before she decides to sluggishly turn at Isaac with an angry face to finally take that TV remote from him). The scene is in every way worse than the originals. The music, the camera direction, the use of shadows, even Isaacs face looks like he barely made it out from a nightmare in the original by leaning into the chair after taking his helm off, compared to pussy Isaac just being sad his girlfriend was dead in the remake that is his only worry judging from his face. Just stop. Give credit where it is due.
Original dead space ending is much better you can see the relief that he finally made it and same time exhausted also has face of someone that he went through hell and back. The jump scare is also done better, in the remake it's a slow pan of camera where you see Nicole already and know what going to happen. I remember playing the original seeing that ending remember thinking that was that Nicole because it happened so fast.
0:17 my favorite is in the og the camera have shaking effect and more dramatic then the Remake 0:25 idk but the og version look more natural and more feeling then remake 1:40 and my favorite this og version have effect and high pich voice who make jumpscare look more scary & creepy Sorry for my english
I will say that what I liked about the remake was when the giant chunk of aegis 7 was coming back down to the planet, how when taking off you literally get a cooler shot of it slamming into the planet unlike the original, but I wished they did better in the actual impact itself cause it felt kinda dull, like they plastered some explosion over the impact sight and the screen just fades to white, unlike the original, when the impact scene is witnessed, you can feel the impact as well as Isaac as the rumble echos, the whole impact from the epicenter literally lights up shooting debris everywhere and just feels and sounds more powerful and devastating when it crashes
I Still prefer the remake it's a complete upgrade better secondary shooting mode for all weapons which almost 100% were pretty mediocre in the original, No more waste of resources with empty gaps on the upgrade bench and power node rooms, Isaac speaks that makes him a character you can relate too and many other stuff.
My mate looks exactly like Isaac in the remake it's crazy 😂 I had to show him, he couldn't believe it, even showed some of my other mates and they laughed in disbelief
The remake was very well done, of course some parts of the original are going to be better. Yes Isaac looks more exhausted in the original but in the remake he seems more coming down from an adrenaline rush. I think the final scare is okay in the remake, I feel like seeing her crouched by the chair is more scary and the voice line they gave her kind of gave away what was going to happen but still it’s beautifully done game and I hope this revives the franchise because dead space has always been wonderfully crafted games that should be talked about and played more
The OG ending was better and left a lot more questions that would be answered by a sequel. Even though the remake of course looks better, I think what has aged well with the original in regards to the ending is the lighting, and the fact that you normally never get to see Isaac's face up to this point, leaving a lot more impact when you see just how beaten down he looks at this point both physically and mentally. The lighting helps masking the less detailed textures, but also Nicole herself you don't get to see Nicole's body fully in the OG makes her look way more uncanny and scary, rather than just the living corpse we see in the remake. With how we can't really make out what 'Nicole' now is in the original (we of course find out in the sequel), makes us able to believe she was a necromorph that somehow had snuck aboard and killed Isaac in the end, or that he had survived, but gone insane, with the latter being the case. The way it cuts to credits with its use of music also lets the OG leave such a malicious and hopeless impact, even though you beat it. Goes to show that no matter how advanced graphics get, style, vision and working around limitation will always trump the former when it comes to quality. Not to sell the remake completely short of course, but in this case the OG wins hands down.
The remake's ending is likely a response to the negative stigma around jumpscares thanks in part to FNAF. Or at least the style of jumpscare that involves a screaming faced shoved into the camera before a cut to static.
Out of all the things of OG dead space nicoles jumpscare was the only thing that scared me it was so fast and out of nowhere and the Kim’s are noise but the remake it felt like the catalisto protocol ending
Going with motion capture for a jumpscare is a mistake; too slow, plus the less natural it looks the more effect the scare has. Also lighting in remake "jumpscare" is too bright.
Honestly, no matter how it looks, I knew the ending scene in the remake wasn't gonna hit the same way as the original did because let's face it....we all knew it was coming. If they really want to get us, they would've changed it to where Isaac turn to looks over and doesn't see anything and when he turns his head back and the camera pans to him Nicole jumps out from behind and grabs him screaming with her face opening up in a monster form. All and all though it's still a solid and enjoyable remake.
I never played the OG version, and wasn't spoiled too much so I had no clue it was coming at the end. Afterwards though I looked up the original games ending and would have to say I'm sad I didn't experience the originals ending myself because IMO it was far more terrifying than what we got with the remake. I think that might be true about lots of aspects of the original, it just did horror better. However the remake was a graphical feast for the eyes and still a very excellent experience so I hope they remake Dead Space 2 (I actually played the original of that one).
@@slayer4932 On the contrary, I think the way they positioned her in the OG was far more unsettling, the speed at which it all occurs is actually startling. And while I agree to some extent it is a generic attempt at a jump scare, it induced some level of fear response unlike the remake which did absolutely nothing for me first time ever experiencing it. Maybe the remake conveyed some sense of horror to you the way it ended, but for me, it did nothing. Edit: I should note the ending that I first watched for OG deadspace was modified to remove all the screen stuttering, static, and marker nonsense so you actually see the mutilated face coming right at the camera/isaac. The version seen in this video was a lot less impactful. Never played the original so I don't know what version the game released with.
@@slayer4932 Agreed, I don't understand why people are simping for jumpscares so hard when it's the laziest form of horror. All modern horror movies that got top marks have shied away from using them because they're so mediocre/cheap, where the rest of the original Dead Space was amazing in the atmosphere it cultivated that final "scare" was average at best. All one should really glean from the ending is that Isaac hasn't escaped his demons, the remake doesn't do any worse at conveying that than the original and everyone who thinks it's missed something just has their rose tinted nostalgia glasses on.
The lighting and shadows definitely make the original better for that scene. However, i do like how it just looks like theres a corpse sitting in the seat next to him before jumping at him in the remake.
I was wondering why the new ending didn’t scare me at all. Yes, I still get a little jump watching the original. Although the remake was one of the best, if not the best remake out there, the remake ending is not as good as the original. The camera movement was too slow, the lighting was too bright, we clearly see Nicole’s figure, the jump scare was less “in your face”, the scream was less intense and doesn’t last, and more importantly, the Marker’s symbols are all gone. It’s a very water down version of a perfect ending.
I like how the remake made Nicole someone else who was as heavily influenced as Isaac instead of just a hallucination. I feel like the plot and dialogue of the remake is just better than the old games and does way more to explain the general story of dead space, even though 2 and 3’s story points were huge in their own right
In remake you have prep time for the jumpscare, while in the original game you have just 0.1 sec to realise something. That's why original Dead Space ending is so fucking scary.
I've never been scared by either version of the ending. Jumpscares are cheap and overused, of course it's going to look lame. When I played the original version 10 years ago, my reaction to the ending was sheer disappointment, partially because the ending bugged out on me, played the scream sound effect two seconds early and started the whole scene all over before the credits rolled in two seconds later. The same happened for Neocranium when he streamed the game. The secret alternative ending is waaaaay better than this.
Cringe contrarian take, the alternative ending’s fuckin dumb even as a set up for DS2 because isaac was in a fuckin coma when they found him, now it’s implied that he built the skyscraper-sized titan station marker by hand? And he’s the bad guy now? And he’s not completely emotionally, psychologically and physically exhausted from 1.) finding out his gf’s dead 2.) everyone he knew on board the kellion and ishimura’s dead. 3.)he fixed and entire ship in under a day 4.) he killed countless abominations by ripping them limb from limb No all we get is “mwuahaha i’m the badguy now batman, I have a devious plan to break away from the 2nd game’s setup so Motive entertainment can ‘do it’s own thing, hehehe.”
@@thebigenchilada678 In a way, both endings suck. You forget, Isaac WASN'T the only one to build the titan station marker, check the DS2 lore again. Stross and many others were also involved in the marker's construction, you really think the eye needle machine was invented for JUST Isaac? Play the game again, check the lore again. The marker induces madness, it imprinted itself into Isaac's mind and built a personality for itself, "Nicole". It wouldn't make sense for it to suddenly induce a coma, that's not how madness works. Usually, severe brain damage would induce a coma, the kind it would also take for some guy with a cringe joe rogan pfp to think it's a good idea to challenge my understanding of the story. ;) The jumpscare ending sucks, it is not scary, it is not interesting in any way, it is purely disappointing. If you think it's scary, you're a wimp, plain and simple.
How come like all of the original ending videos have like graphical issues whether that be the timing here the animation cutting out in the middle of the scare or even just like it being abrupt and stuff all of them seem to be using the PC version when my Xbox 360 shows how it was intended to look
I enjoyed both versions of the game but think Nicole's original design was better, due to the fact of her looking sweeter in the video logs, calmer, comforting, etc. Having a dramatic appearance at the end of the scene makes it more intense. She was weaker in the remake I feel.
The fact that the original holds up is still amazing for its time and the amount of people who worked on it

The late 2000s were such a great time for gaming, I honestly replay more games from that era than I play modern ones (of course, it's personal preference, but to me this was a great time for gaming)
@@MGrey-qb5xzThe remake is great
They did wonders with the lighting and art design. Some of the areas are graphically stunning even today.
Dead space originals jump scare wasn’t that scary nor the game its self because you already played it like 1 million times
It was a-lot more unpredictable in the remake because of the ai director plus not all was it enemy spawn and trap placements like l4d 1 and 2
It got me quivering at times despite the enemy’s not being a whole lot menacing
Because the game if you play it is way WAYYY DARKER in game rather than on camera gamma doesn’t help until its recordered and edited for footage but god most cases i legit had me wondering if an enemy was near me and i just couldn’t tell…. Plus the sounds design is amazing….
Please play the game with low brightness settings its so much scarier idk if it matter since i still couldn’t see even with it turned up
@@RealDFShadow So you're saying the remake is better because you haven't played it as much as the original? Are you serious?
@@RealDFShadow alien isolation was a great horror game. Shame alot of developers don't use the ai for the alien in other horror games
Nicole in the remake just looks like a girlfriend scaring her boyfriend as a joke
"It's just a prank, bro"
I knew that the original was scarier
I definitely prefer Nicole's original design as well, not that this take on her is a complete failure. Her original performance which seems like someone way more sweet and caring, really outshines the new one, too, sadly.
Original ending had my skin crawling
The remake ending was kind of unsettling, but the original? I lost sleep over that shit!
I prefer the remake jumpscare since its better
@@Gettome8962 wow what a compelling argument
Og still better.
Only thing better about the og dead space is the hive mind fight, I don't think anyone wants to play through the horrible og leviathan boss fight again
Wrong

He gets those in the sequel after all the PTSD and Uniologist experiments
@@NickTovA he already has it in the original DS
@@spookyperson7096 well they made her look towards how she looked like in DS 2 but older.... still the remake nicole just doesn't look as good as her actual face model and its the same with gunner wrights because he looks bland with barely any detail and thats not a shot at gunner wright himself but the ingame model lacks any detail that the original isaac had but obviously the remake isaac has better graphics but on a surface level original isaac looked more detailed
Idk why they panned the camera on Nicole, only to do the jumpscare 4 seconds later.
They could've given her the glowing eyes and mouth, make her smile with the light coming out and make her move much faster. It's not that hard, right?

Remake did most things right. Them making a few "mistakes" is not bad, it's just normal way of things.
Ok, just saw the alternate ending, I feel the change in direction is justified. In short, they want unnerving atmosphere, not jumpscare.
that kind of InYourFace straight, quick, and body terror of the original is absent in the Remake; And that method was Glen Schofield's signature horror and I'd say it's not fair to expect another dev (Motive) pull off another director's creative vision; Yet the absence of that kind of horror in some parts of the remake (Ending jump scare, death of Jaobe Temple, THAT scream in the elevator and more) kinda disappointed me; Yet the overall horror in the remake was totally on-point with the OG.
The original ending is wayyy better than Remake ngl. Isaac's face kinda scared/terrified and the Nicole's jumpscare is unexpected and we barely see her where she is, her position i mean

@@bucket9486 if you know the jumpscare, it wont be scare. This jumpscare wasn't scare when i played the original one for the second time
The ending for the remake is lame compared to the original. The Nicole's movements and screeching in the original was so inhuman and unnatural which added more to the creepiness factor, whereas the remake version makes it look like Isaac just got pranked.
Yup. There are some changtes I loved with the remake that added a nice taste. Here, though... nah, the remake ending is underwhelming.
It should be faster imo luckily that’s something that’s easily fixable in a patch
I think if they made it faster it would fix everything because imo the whisper before it is awesome but it is kind of slow.
Original is better than remake, when isaac feel something beside him, went straight to jumpscare with the effect. Remake the other hand, delay for 5 second then jumpscare without effect. But nicole jumpscare position in remake is more make sense than crouching
All the gamers love the original unperfect Isaac's face
Issac has a helmet on the entire time in the game, why wouldn't it be perfect.
Compare it to when he takes it off at the end, you'll see no difference.
lol so the lack of animation quality didn't even bother you lol
You can clearly see sweat and I think dirt on his face.
I love the graphics in the remake, however the original was far scarier.
The original was scarier because it was brand new. With the remake, you're expecting the scares due to past experience, so it softens the blow when the scares happen.
@@GrandmasterDevo Your mom softened the blow
@@GrandmasterDevohm no, the tension is better in the original, there's no hint with Nicole talking before a very obvious jump scare, in the original you just hear a little slither noise and then she's screaming at the screen, the original was just better
Everyone is talking about the jumpscare comparison and how the original one is better, which I do believe the original is scarier in terms of actually scaring the player. People are saying the new one is bad but hear me out:
Think about it in Issac's perspective, he's just been through an entire ship load of twisted deformed shells of the people within the Ishimura, after been through hell and finally making it through alive after killing a creature he never thought would be possible let alone exist, and by a narrow chance he made it out alive and okay.
Only the ending was better in the original otherwise everything about the remake was better
@@Leon_S._Kennedygalactic cope

I miss the old isaac face
Yeah, the original ending is better. in the remake,it looks like she's talking to get his attention ,then leaning over to give him a big ole adorable hug and just screaming in his face which isn't scary. the original shocks you with yelling in yours and gets in your face, filling your screen with symbols and a bright blur with lights coming out of her mouth and eyesockets like a scary skull jack-o-lantern that you don't expect...Same thing in dead space 2 as well when you encounter her many times unexpectedly in the game.
original is the best it gets me every time
The OG caught me off guard when I was 8 years and scared the hell out of me 😂😂
Beyond what people have mentioned already, I really like the originals take because it makes more sense that Isaac is finally coming to terms with his GFs death.
They should've used isaacs face from DSP2 & 3. thats the isaac we know and love. And they should've kept the Nicole from OG DSP1.
I think the original is more scarier
cause Issac wife looks more zombie like
It looks like she's hugging him in the remake

The new version doesn't hold a candle to the original Nicole ending with jumpscare
The Original feels like a Game and the Remake more like a Movie.
Both has it's charms and i love both!

not like having the ending jumpscare less impactful changed anything, but i do miss the unnatural movement that nicole had in that moment.
It changes the effect the ending has lmao. It’s a horror game, scares are 75% of the experience.
Secret ending in the remake is much better than jumpscare ending in both games.

The remakes ending makes me want a remake of Dead Space 2, it is the only thing that made me almost scared.
I liked the original ending rather than the remake, to me the scene going quiet and then Isaac looking to right and then Nicole jumping out at you really got me. The whisper of Nicole and her dead body in the co-pilot really doesn't scare much and you kinda anticipate it.
ngl the original one was way better but i love it so much that isaac has more emotion and lines in the remake

The original was better, the remake's scariest part was Isaac looking over to see her sitting next to him staring, but the actual jump wasn't as scary.
i have to say as someone who has only played the remake, the original does a much better job at conveying isaacs emotions. remake isaacs face barely moves...
The remake , you can tell there will be a Jumpscare, original, you get less then jalf a second to prepare
Now this part really dissapointed me in the remake, the original ending holds up pretty well. But overall it is a fantastic remake!
quiero pensar que en el remake lo hicieron así, porque el screamer es brutal en el original, literal, nadie se lo esperaba, y quiero pensar que decidieron hacerlo mas despacio en el remake para evitar posibles problemas legales o algo asi
Honestly, I like the older one. They removed something in the new one too, sometimes enemies would play dead when you killed them, so you'd always be paranoid if they actually died or not. Added more to the horror.
The original Dead Space Nicole Jumpscare is still more scary.
Original jumpscare ending still better than remake as dead Nicole suddenly teleport in front of the screen before it ends
I played through dead space (2008) recently and when i got on the ship i thought it was smooth sailing and turned my volume all the way up 😢
Opening scene was scarier in the original. When the necromorph opens the elevator specifically.
Sounds weird but the worse graphics and the Technical part also being worse (obviously) make the OG scarier in most parts imo
The alt ending is hot dogshit
The main problem with the remake jump scare was that I was expecting it
I'll stick with the original game ending 100% thanks
Me too
Whenever there's moments where Isaac takes off his helmet in the remake, I just close my eyes and yell at him to put that shit back on
New Isaac looks like A DAMN SANDLER iukwim
Original dead space ending is much better you can see the relief that he finally made it and same time exhausted also has face of someone that he went through hell and back. The jump scare is also done better, in the remake it's a slow pan of camera where you see Nicole already and know what going to happen. I remember playing the original seeing that ending remember thinking that was that Nicole because it happened so fast.
0:17 my favorite is in the og the camera have shaking effect and more dramatic then the Remake
0:25 idk but the og version look more natural and more feeling then remake
1:40 and my favorite this og version have effect and high pich voice who make jumpscare look more scary & creepy

I think the final scare is okay in the remake, I feel like seeing her crouched by the chair is more scary and the voice line they gave her kind of gave away what was going to happen but still it’s beautifully done game and I hope this revives the franchise because dead space has always been wonderfully crafted games that should be talked about and played more
I only redeeming part of the remake is isaac look like he is sweaty
I've never played the game before, but I feel that the first 14 seconds of the remake capture desperation, exhaustion, and urgency.
remake was a better game but yeah the ending is just so much better in the original
@@VyxelOP the original is just a generic ear rape+flickering jumpscare. Those are some of the lamest attempts at jumpscaring.
All one should really glean from the ending is that Isaac hasn't escaped his demons, the remake doesn't do any worse at conveying that than the original and everyone who thinks it's missed something just has their rose tinted nostalgia glasses on.
wow it looks like a movie with the new one.
the og was definitely scarier. I was in highschool at the time but after watching this its gave me chills lol
The lighting and shadows definitely make the original better for that scene. However, i do like how it just looks like theres a corpse sitting in the seat next to him before jumping at him in the remake.
The original is more terrifying. The special effects mixed with her screaming really sets a good scare
Proof that it is not the graphics that makes a game a good game, it is how you present it that makes it a great game.
I really wonder if they are going to make Dead Space 2 remake... Because I did find a voicemail in Dead Space Remake that was for Dead Space 2 opening
That's why original Dead Space ending is so fucking scary.
on my super ultra wide you can see her literally pop in hahaha
People comparing both ending are forgetting that we have already know what's gonna happen so that 5 night at Freddy's jump scare crap won't work here
This is gonna Sound weird but the "worse" graphics make the OG Version scarier imo
As much as I love the remake, the original version of this scene was WAY better.
classic laser eye nicole haha
And he’s not completely emotionally, psychologically and physically exhausted from
1.) finding out his gf’s dead
2.) everyone he knew on board the kellion and ishimura’s dead.
3.)he fixed and entire ship in under a day
4.) he killed countless abominations by ripping them limb from limb
No all we get is “mwuahaha i’m the badguy now batman, I have a devious plan to break away from the 2nd game’s setup so Motive entertainment can ‘do it’s own thing, hehehe.”
Usually, severe brain damage would induce a coma, the kind it would also take for some guy with a cringe joe rogan pfp to think it's a good idea to challenge my understanding of the story. ;)
The jumpscare ending sucks, it is not scary, it is not interesting in any way, it is purely disappointing. If you think it's scary, you're a wimp, plain and simple.
@@dennyandk9 yet the alt ending implies that’s exactly what he’s going to do.
If only Nicole screamed in the remake what a good game still had looks of fun looking over my shoulder every 10 seconds while playing.
