    Dead Space is a science fiction/horror media franchise created by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, developed by Visceral Games, and published and owned by Electronic Arts. The franchise's chronology is not presented in a linear format; each installment in the Dead Space franchise is a continuation or addition to a continuing storyline, with sections of the storyline presented in prequels or sequels, sometimes presented in other media from the originating video game series, which includes two films and several comic books and novels.
    Primarily set in a 26th century science fiction universe featuring environments, weapons, and characters typical of the genre, the Dead Space franchise centers on a series of video games beginning with the release of the first Dead Space, which follows an engineer named Isaac Clarke and the mutated undead horrors that surround him. A central theme in the games is the fictional cult religion Unitology and its fanatical followers, who believe that information about an alien artifact called the Marker is being suppressed by the Earth's government. Their primary goal is to use this Marker to bring about the so-called "convergence" or "unification", with the Markers being the source of the undead monsters encountered by the series' protagonists.
    The Dead Space video game series has been positively received; the first game in particular won a number of industry awards for the varied elements of its gameplay and development, and is often regarded as one of the best video games of all time by critics. From a commercial perspective, EA considered the video game series as a whole to have underperformed. After the financial disappointment of 2013's Dead Space 3, no further media for the franchise was made for the remainder of the 2010s. A remake of the first game is currently in development by Motive Studio and set for release in 2023 .

    What makes me respect Isaac even more in the remake is that even thou Kendra betrayed Isaac, he still genuinely wanted to save her. That’s a good partner. Another example is in Dead Space 3 when Isaac tried to save Jennifer Santos in the cargo lift. He really did everything he could to save her even though there was no chance. In a way, he mirrors Ripley from Aliens. Both of them are strong and empathetic characters who go out of their way to help others.

      Isaac didn't ALWAYS save ppl for the sake of saving ppl... its only the result of DS2 where the NEED of saving ppl kicked in DS3... in DS1 however, that wasn't a thing for a lot of factors and primarily is that Isaac was entirely alone as well as believing that Nicole is alive in the Ishimura but still knows deep down that she's dead because he watched the full video before the events of the game

  • @DarkAttackYT
    @DarkAttackYT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1866

    The original death is very fitting because Kendra has been a manipulative woman playing teacher's pet with zero care on her own team and the remake version is fitting for the new Kendra because despite working for an evil corporation, she still showed remorse and sympathy towards Isaac due to working together the entire time, thus feeling empathized towards Isaac for trying to save her.

    • @demonintellect9834
      @demonintellect9834 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest issue that I have of the remake is that she still knows Nicole is dead the entire time. the thing is for isaac is that he never really wanted to save ppl at first from the original and just wanted to survive and get out but with the interpretation of isaac from the original, you can still sort of have isaac wanting to save ppl like running and shooting to try and save someone but later game, isaac is getting affected by the marker too much also isaac knows that he cant rely on anyone because they're probably just as insane as him... there's a video of the original where you unknowingly hallucinate 'real people' as necromorphs but you don't know that as a player until you connect the dots and see when you killed the. necromorphs in a specific area then the bodies on the floor will be real humans dismembered and the devs definitely did this intentionally because they themselves confirmed that the disappearance of dismembered necromorphs get taken by other necromorphs to form a bigger bio mass necromorph but if go to a specific spot that you killed numerous of necromorphs then there will be real humans dismembered... plus the addition with isaac wanting to save ppl or save humanity comes in DS 2 in late game

    One such complaint is that Isaac wanted to save Kendra, even though she was gonna leave him for dead. While on the surface this does seem stupid, it's a consistent part of Isaac's character that he doesn't want to just allow humans die needlessly. Hell, it's even made apparent in the remake that Isaac more so wants to preserve life as much as possible, with him being outraged at Mercer killing that one dude he stuck in stasis, and him explicitly saying "enough people have died" at one point.

      Saying the OG potrays terror "better" is quitw blatant BS, this argument is by people who already played the original and already experienced the horrors of the game, and giving them a nicer better look won't change the fact that you already experienced before. It hurts but people need to understand that nostalgiafaging hurts your experience with the reinvention of once beloved game.

      I mean it's a subjective take so I don't expect anyone to just agree with me. I just felt that Kendra's reaction to the Hivemind in the OG gave this feeling of dread that the remake didn't. However, you can interpret her and Isaac's lack of fear towards the behemoth via them likley having prior knowledge to the beast beforehand, which Clarke even hints at right before Kendra gets swatted aside.
      The go to argument of nostalgia clouding judgement is kind of tiring to hear, as most of the time that is the case, people don't actually extrapolate on what they dislike and are more so just like "Muhhhh looks ass". Where as I go out of my way to voice my full criticisms and expand upon them when asked.

  • @scorchy81
    @scorchy81 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    How the tentacle appears for only a moment just to effortlessly kill off Kendra, and the loud flatline as it slinks back off-screen is utterly haunting. You can clearly see Isaac is mortified, as he cautiously gets up, expecting to be next. All whilst the music is building up, Isaac and the player are waiting for it show itself again. Then the screen starts shaking and another tentacle rises, completely surrounding Isaac. The soundtrack comes to a standstill with that signature deep guttural horn, signifying your impending doom. As he readies his weapon, the music still silent, the sound of thousands of corpses screaming in tandem with one another echoes across Aegis VII. Isaac, visibly shaken from the noise, lets his guard down. Up until this point Isaac nor the player has seen what this creature truly looks like and hearing it long before seeing it is simply horrifying.
    The high pitched scream turns into a deep rumbling roar as the camera pans up and the Hivemind finally reveals itself. For the first time in the game, Isaac is removed from the players view just to show the sheer scale of this monster twisting up into the orange sky with a multitude of flailing appendages, also reminding Isaac of the enormous chunk of burning rock rapidly descending towards him. The scene is accompanied by the sounding of another horn, and with that the soundtrack kicks back in. The camera pans back down and Isaac is placed back into frame as the hivemind stares him down. He’s nothing but terrified, frozen still. But as he regains his composure, he cocks his shoulder back and takes aim.

    • @Kn1ghtborne
      @Kn1ghtborne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AlphaSqad45 No one cares about any of that. The OG game had better enemy attack strategy, attack patterns and animations. The fast flailing attacks from necromorphs helped emphasize on how unnatural they moved and the fact we didn't get any proper look at anyone's facial expressions in the OG game gave it a stronger eldritch feeling since it was so visually emotionally vapid.
      I'm currently playing through the game now and as an OG vet I couldn't be happier with getting Deadspace for PS5 but small little things are awkward like Isaac's aiming animation or how he runs.
      The cutscenes also seem to yank Isaac into position which feels weird when you're not ready for it but for me the most notable difference is enemy aggression and animation. They're a little docile and tend to skate over the floor at times. The hallway tentacle is also a weird situation because it somehow lacks intensity which I personally believe might come from the audio design and timing of the tentacle. Certain sounds drown each other out a bit but I'm going to adjust them a certain way to see if it helps but I do recall the necromorph screams being deathly violent and loud

    Tbh, I think one of the reason why the Hive mind didn't immediately turn Isacc into the same stain on the floor as Daniels got explained in DS 2 and 3.
    It needs Isacc to complete convergence.
    In DS 2 it's said that the creator of the Marker is needed to make convergence happens. But the creator of this Marker is already long dead/ unable to be assimilate, so it's trying to make Isacc into it's "creator" and "make him whole" to finish it's purpose.
    But of course it's just a theory. Gotta say though, aside from small hiccups, the story of Dead space franchise is pretty consistent.
    I got high hopes for Callisto protocol. But alas the writer for Dead space wasn't exactly Glen.

      He lost all his parents because of unitology, and Nicole blamed herself which is one of many reasons why she killed herself, she likely felt alone in that situation and knowing there’s nothing she was really fighting for and you also have to think. Isaac blames himself for her death, he wasted all that time trying to find her and save her but it was all for nothing, and now everyone isaac knew is dead and possibly turned into necromorphs, and at the end of the game, isaac truly becomes the sole survivor.
