Maybe I'm old fashioned but i was alwas told to check oil level first before staring as after you start oil circulates your level drops on dip stick you think oil is low you add more then don't you end up overfull ?

Hi Andrew. Never a bad idea to check the level beforehand. Yes the oil level will drop slightly to circulate around the engine but I think the manufacture takes this into consideration when advising of the servicing oil capacity even with a new oil filter. It'd be different with a "dry engine" for example. I think filling it to the recommend amount will slightly overfill the engine (but not excessively) and allow for the level to drop when circulating. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for getting in touch and for your on-going support.
