Just got done watching parasite on Blu-ray for the first time. Wow!
South Korea isn’t afraid of North Korea they pity the’ this movie was strange halfway through it.
They actually built the entire house for the movie. That's why it's so perfect
And the best thing is the house is so well utilised and implemented into this film it feels like it's own character my favourite part of this film is the setting and how well it was presented

Actually, only the first floor exterior was built. The second floor was a blue screen, believe it or not! And the inside were actually set pieces! So crazy!

Actually they built the whole thing, so it’s the gift of the production design gods.
Joker had much of the same themes as Parasite. I was ultimately underwhelmed watching Joker after hearing about all the praise it received. On the other hand, I was overwhelmed watching Parasite. No disrespect to Joker, but Parasite should've received the attention that Joker got.
Also, another thing to note is that Asian audiences, or audiences familiar with Asian culture, will find Parasite far more enjoyable than otherwise. There are subtle nuances with how the poor family act that is somewhat unique to Asian households. The father is somberly hardworking, the mother is proudly aggressive, the daughter is monotone yet not without a personality, and the son is reserved with aspirations. It really makes you feel like you're a part of their family. The solidarity of the characters in the Joker made my enjoyment of that film far underwhelming in comparison.
As an Asian, I agree that I find it easier to immerse myself in Asian movies. Sadly it's hard to find a movie that suits my taste and "makes you can't even take your eyes off the screen". I think "Parasite" is the first one that I found. I mostly watch Korean and Japanese, and they're great at making films.
Parasite did what Joker wanted to do, end of sentence.
While I enjoyed joker and phoenix's performance, parasite really gripped my soul. The last act unnerved me.
I think u described the non-rich Asian families' member characteristics very well... I can really agree

crazy fact is that 80% of this entire movie was shoot in a set. including Park’s and Kim’s both house. it deserves Best Production Design!!

A movie distributed in the States by certain companies are "indie" movies by default. Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, and Miramax are among them. True independent movies are produced without involvement and/or input by a major company.
Because according to Americans only American studios exist.. therefore if it isn't made in America it's "indie"

Yeah, this is one of those rare movies where no matter how high your expectations are for it, it won't disappoint. Truly a masterpiece
I hope you've seen it. It has some of the most drop-dead laughing funny scenes! Just hilarious and TOTALLY original.
I don't mean to say he should be, but I feels like he could make a very great addition for DC 'dark' films like Joker if he may get noticed by WB someday😁
Snowpiercer was already an example of great film production, given the amount of budget which only quarter (or lesser) the average budget of today's Hollywood action flicks in general.
It’s very good but keep in mind that it’s not for everybody. If you’re into movies like the Titanic or Adam Sandler type stuff as your favorite styles, you may possibly be disappointed. Most of my family members would not like this type of movie
So glad you review this movie in my opinion one of the best films of 2019. You should review more foreign movies more often.
You should watch his first major hit movie in Korea, "Memories of Murder." It's really good!

the joker and parasite are not the same... parasite speaks to a servant and master relationship that has been in existence for as long as humans have been around. the joker, i would say has more of a relevance to what's happening politically currently due to riots worldwide and the people in power. yes both have to do with class divide but the dynamic is vastly different.
Parasite will make you hungry with that beef dish
I recommend Memories of Murder, such a masterpiece. I feel like his Korean movies are so much more nuanced than his western ones, tho they’re also amazing.
I think Parasite just about equals that film.
Amen! Memories of Murder is his masterpiece. Parasite has timing and cultural trend on its side making it a buzz otherwise it's a decent flick not a masterpiece.

Just FYI, the neighbourhood was built in a water tank and the house was a combination of sets.
On the neighbourhood, my parents actually live on the road they shot when they walk up to the house..

The house was actually a set built specifically for the film, no location scout gods needed! As I understand it, Bong designed the building around what would be needed for shooting.
The house was designed for the movie by its production designer Lee Ha Jun.
The best of the year for me. "Burning" last year .... Asian cinema is coming strong.

always been strong, it's just western audience prefer "in your face", explosion, and over the top cinematic movies. South Korea is a very intelligent country, which produce very well written movies. Not so much intelligent here in the US to understand these kind of cinema

I’m so happy you reviewed this film. I’ve been putting off seeing Joker, but now I want to compare and contrast the films for the essay I got for pop culture class.
And the twist. 😱 You could tell it was coming, but I totally didn’t expect it to unfold as it did.
Who would have thought that it would be a film review (who's content I watch everday and thoroughly enjoy) who came out and spoke about an elephant in the room, which no politician, senator, mp whatever,doesn't dare address. You have my respect Ms. Randolph. Hopefully those that weild the power have the balls to point out we are living on a powder keg. Thanks for your content it's my go to for trailer breakdowns

In past year I saw at least 100 of korean movies and only around 20 of Hollywood ones so I am glad that my favourite reviewer saw this one
I watched this movie two days ago and immediately looked for your review, I was so disappointed that there wasn't one so this video is such a nice surprise! I was so amazed by this movie, and seeing it in the same day as joker made me see the similarities even more

I don't know. I thought Joker was incredibly unsubtle with it's message, while Parasite, due to Bong's years of masterful direction felt much more nuanced. With Joker it was like a brick to the head. With Parasite, I was uncovering symbolism and different messages even when I turned the movie off.
I am so upset that this is showing nowhere near me. :(

Hi, have you watched "Memories of Murder" and "Mother" by Bong? If you haven't, worth checking them out. It is earlier work of his but it is also stricking.
Snowpiercer and The Host and Ok-Ja are the movies i watched that l really am a fan of his directorial performance. I have also been told that those movies you mentioned are really good as well. Thank you. I love Parasite. Excellent!

Glad that someone is reviewing South Korean movies. Too bad that most people don’t hear about Kmovies often. They somehow come out with masterpieces every other month lol. They are clearly the top in the world when it comes to thrillers and serial killer themes, no one come close, and the camera work is top notch. Great job South Korea!!

A multilayered treat that gets better the more you think of it! Try also Memories of Murder by Bong Joon-ho. It's fantastic. It is like South Korea's Zodiac.
Well, zodiac for me looks amateur as compare to Memories of Murder which is based on real crime story in korea, and the fact that just this year, the real killer just arrested after decades of hiding..
