I was an extra on this movie for almost 6 weeks and it was A LOT of fun, i even got to talk (real conversation , not just hellos) with many of the stars and key crew members, and id say the 1st AD Adam Somer was a true back bone of this film too. He was an unbelievable work horse. I never saw him get tired once even after 12hrs. Just look at is IMDB, and youll see why. I cant wait to see it. Im super excited!
I loved her character. They gave her some great bits. It was nice that Ken Miles' relationship with his wife, and with his son, got to have center stage very often.
To me, it's really the Ken Miles story. It's like we are at the end of the Shelby story as the movie starts. Then he recruits Ken Miles to be his successor.
Lets see, the Female actress tries to kill Mr. Bale's character by driving a souped up station wagon down a canyon road at 100 miles per hour. Then turns around and helps him with his career when he is at a low point in his life. Amazing Woman. I like Her!

This reminds me a lot of Raging Bull and it's production. Scorsese wasn't a boxing fan, but De Niro insisted that he make the film. He did but made it about the man and his personal struggles, not so much about actual boxing. It's an excellent film for those who haven't seen it
This woman has no idea on the true meaning of the movie. It's not about artists, or businessman. It's about how 2 longtime friends battle through the toughest race there could ever be.
On the one hand, Grace, "Why 24hrs", lol you're such a girl....but thinking about it, that's actually a great question and yes James answer was correct, it's about showing which manufacturer made the best car that could survive the full 24hrs. And the end...while Lucas was a jerk...Miles didn't have to slow down...& he never did what they wanted him to do, but in the end, he chose to be a team player, and it cost him.
That those movies were as good as they were is a testament to the camera crews, et al, who had to "rig up" bulky film cameras from the 60s onto the cars or chase/lead vehicles, with crew hanging out everywhere. Very dangerous and quite complicated. My hat goes off to those pioneers !!
Le Man was created to promote car design, engineering, and efficiency during the early days of automobile where they are terribly unreliable. So the 24 hours was meant to test the ability of the automobile company to designed, engineered, and proof of reliability of their cars. It may not really makes sense now as all cars are pretty reliable today, but it sure do back in the early days.
8:30 she says the wife doesn’t seem to know anything about cars. WTF? Did she watch the movie? The line where she says she likes the smell of wet gasoline and burnt rubber. She also spoke specifically about cars a couple times. Weird oversight.
I wouldn't say it's not a car movie but it has a lot more to offer besides just racing, but it does tell the story behind a forgotten driver and has pleanty to offer to the car nerds like myself lol

I had the same feeling about Le Mans and NASCAR. Then I research about it and then realized it’s a pretty amazing race. 24 hours to see which car is not just the fastest, but reliable and long lasting, as well as the driver and his attributes.
I loved this movie immensely. Had a good touch of comedy, drama and great racing scenes. Acting from all around is fantastic and it is my favorite role of Christian Bale because Ken Miles is very charismatic. Can’t wait to watch it again. I agree that this is Mangold’s best movie, truly feels like a classic movie in my opinion.

The drama between Ford and Ferrari was not just a battle between both automotive houses but the inner battles that the individuals hired-in this case Shelby’s team-were tasked you overcome the bureaucracy involved. The movie Rush wasn’t about the racing-sure that stuff is cool-it was about two guys from very different ends of the spectrum that happen to have one thing in common. Not racing. But winning. How do you mean damon's and bale's best movies? Like best performance they've had or best movie they appeared in? If the latter, I'd 100% say this is better than the martian. Just watched that on xmas actually. But even better than this, I'd say the best damon was in is easily Interstellar. For bale it's definitely either the dark knight, or the prestige... you might've just noticed a pattern in the movies I like.

I hate to be Debbie Downer but, without the evil business men (Ford, Iacocca, etc. ), neither Shelby or Miles (the "artists") would have done anything shown in the movie...so it's really a symbiotic relationship not adversarial.
It's not about racing why call it Ford v Ferrari? Seems a stupid title. I just straight away assumed racing movie as most people will. I doubt non racing fans will bother watching it and many racing fans maybe disappointed it's not a racing film. Poor marketing? I think so.
Women have been involved in racing almost from the very beginning and unlike other sports men & women go head to head. Look into the 3 time NHRA World Champion Shirley Muldowney and her movie "Heart Like a Wheel".
Tbh the reason behind the title is that it’s the easiest way to speak out the context of this movie. The only way that the peeps would know about the lemans of the 60s,the legend of the duo (including THE gt40), and the story overall is if they search up ford vs ferrari.
Business is not always about greed. Yes, there are greedy businessmen. But there also those who want to give back to the community. And let us not forget the small businesses that are just surviving but exist because their owners couldn't get employment so they need to create their own business to survive instead of relying on the government. On the flip side, art is not always about creating something good. Art is actually just expressing yourself and being creative. Artists are not always for the good of the community. In fact, many artists can be selfish bastards and do not really care about prudent spending. The problem is businessmen are always portrayed as cruel and greedy while artists are always portrayed as creative geniuses who do not care about commercialization of their stuff so they'd rather starve. In this world, it is not always black and white on many issues.
Got the chance to see it at TIFF and completely agree with you, a total crowd pleaser and could see it overperform in awards season. the ending was so unexpected and sad but at the same time bittersweet
I consider this movie the Speed Racer reboot that we never knew we wanted or needed. If most of the movie is based on true events then it just amazes me how much inspiration they drew from those events to make the Speed Racer (Mach GoGoGo) anime back in the late 60s.
Everyone is in a supporting role when Bale is in the movie.

Ken Miles was from near Birmingham so Bales accent is spot on, people in the midlands of England do actually sound like that.
