    Meccariello is without doubt the best shoe maker, what I don't get is how certain circles haven't given him the true recognition he deserves, John Lobb, Crockett and Jones, and other english and american brand reviewers don't consider or spotlight him in their reviews but who cares, their selective opinions that don't consider him and paolo scafora mean nothing. People that know anazing quality and sublime ITALIAN design know how special Meccariello is. I'm saving for 2 possibly 3 pairs, as much as I love Spanish and Portuguese leading brands, when it comes to design paired with quality married with tradition and design innovation the Italians are out there on their own, I'm hoping to meet Antonio personally to shake his hand.

      Well said! They are amazing shoes and even his entry level is sublime. Most reviewers are just going with the flow and don’t have real shoe knowledge. I hope you will get yours pairs! I still can’t believe the deal I got here. I will shake his hand when I visit his workshop and Paolo’s!

    EXCELLENT video Kostas! And I'm very glad to learn you acquired a pair of Meccariello shoes at such an amazing price. If you paid approximately $400.00 for the shoes and trees, the retailer must have sold them at cost.
    I appreciate the fact that your videos go in depth - I have been wanting to learn more about Meccariello and this presentation was really informative. I would love to see a follow up video once you have conditioned the shoes and have had a chance to wear them a bit, and I would also love to see a comparison between this brand and Paolo Scafora.
    Interesting that you were (or considered being) a Meccairello retailer. I find the website very engaging but in my opinion there are way too many options and it's hard to navigate. Were you to consider retailing these shoes (again?), it would be a real value add to use your deep expertise and relationships to guide customers such as myself. As regards the wait time, I mention a couple of things: One - Meccariello is located in Naples, so it's not surprising there are delays. I wouldn't expect this as much from a workshop in northern Italy. Secondly, if you are going to commit to a truly beautiful, handmade pair of shoes for 10 years or much longer, is it really a big deal to wait up to a year? In my opinion, it's worth the wait.
    I like the new set up. Having spent most of my career in architecture and about (20) years working for Gap, Inc. corporate, my only advice would be: Simple is better. For example, the distressed would table is visually pleasing but it seems to me you want the focus to be on your hands and more importantly in this case, the shoes. In other words, consider carefully what enhances the presentation and what detracts.
    Lastly, it's really refreshing to see someone such as yourself who is so engaged and passionate about what they are doing.
    Keep it up my friend, enjoy those lovely shoes and I look forward to more outstanding content.

      Hello! Thanks for watching and taking the time to write such a detailed and elaborate comment. I appreciate it very much!
      It was a bargain. The shop that had them was doing clearance for 50% off because I heard they might be exiting the shoe game.
      I don’t consider stocking Antonio as it’s too complicated at the moment and I already have Crockett & Jones Handgrade and will be developing my own shoes in the next 6-12 months at that price segment.
      His website is garbage to speak freely. It’s on Wordpress, is slow, all over the place and riddled with mistakes (especially the grammar/spelling ones which I find charming!) but he doesn’t care. All his love goes into the product. He doesn’t need the commercial expansion, the man told me he has more than enough orders/work and he does it because he loves it. If he redesigned his website better it would be a hit.
      By the way, Paolo Scafora is his friend and in the same city, and let me tell you because I retail them they are the most professional, responsive and on time brand I have ever worked with. An absolutely pleasure to talk and work with.
      I am ok with waiting times, but let me tell you I have people buying Carlos Santos Group Made to Orders that take 3 months asking me 2 weeks in if I have any updates...people are impatient.
      I try to be honest. I retail CJ Handgrade, but tell you I’d buy these any day of the week. In my septieme Largeur video I said I highly recommend them even though the directly compete with my Santos brand. Then again when I reviewed Meermin I said they were garbage. After I said some negatives about CNES, they never talked to me again and the Indian brand from the hilarious review (I recommend watching it!) emailed me asking me to take down the video. I don’t care, I do what I feel is right!

I'm mostly into Carmina shoes but interested in Yohei Fukuda which I find looking similar to AM, though YF has a better photographer. Most AM shoes in pictures look similar to Yohei Fukuda. These should cost you 700-900€ to make custom now. I recommend contacting Antonio Meccariello at their website (in the description) for details and a quote.
      YF shoes are great but the waiting time too long and I wouldn’t spend my money on it at the time. These are perfectly great shoes. If budget is not an issue, sure YF is superb. I would look at AM, Paolo scafora, hiro yanagimachi etc for more extravagant styles or finesse!

    Great vid as always and what a sweet deal. Normally I'm not into Italian design but these I can definitely get on board with. You should share what blue shoes you have in your collection to give us some ideas of whats possible with navy. I've only added navy sneakers to my collection so far but I'd like something in navy suede.

    • @MisiuAcademy
      @MisiuAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s slightly more difficult with navy suede, but I mean think about it. we buy navy suits because it’s one of the most versatile colors right? Blue goes well with almost everything, why wouldn’t the shoes too. Down the line I hope I can make some guides about individual colors and how to match them. I think the picture I put in the video and the thumbnail shows how well even going full navy works! I think Antonio manages to make a more tasteful modern design without going too modern. Great shoes I highly recommend them!

    Those are truly impressive shoes, thanks for the video. I hate when they don't fit perfectly and it feels like you need 1/4 number bigger or smaller. What I have been doing when they are smaller is simply stretching them using the regular George Cleverley shoe trees, they work on any shoe for some reason. And when they are bigger, thick Saphir insoles have done the trick except for some Chelsea boots where I had to buy heel grips. Please let us know how that goes, it's always very useful to know from others' experiences.

    • @MisiuAcademy
      @MisiuAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Read the pinned comment for an update. The tongue pad was enough to fix the tiny heel slip for a little snugger instep. I will make sure to update this after more wear!

  • @MisiuAcademy
    @MisiuAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    *SIZING UPDATE!* The Chisel 2 Last seems to fit me perfectly in the instep and the width. The only "problem is at the heel area. It just doesn't hug my heel very well which results into some movement at the back. Nothing major, but at that area I think I would enjoy more a more snug fit. I feel that since the width and instep is good, it might be too tight to size down at UK 8 and my perfect size would probably be UK 8.25. I put the tongue pad in which often can help with half a size and it works very well, though they might need some more break in time. So the advice for me is definitely *take TTS if you have a more regular foot* or you don't get your toes pinched easily but for *those with wider feet or higher instep it's probably best if you size up half just like on GG.* I will update more as I wear them more.

    • @eyeheartsushi2212
      @eyeheartsushi2212 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What brand of tongue pads do you use, and/or what material are they made of? I have some white cheap ones that I don’t think are helping much. Are there any other methods to reduce heel slip other than tongue pads or those inner heel grips?

    • @MisiuAcademy
      @MisiuAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I highly recommend good tongue pads. The ones I buy cost around 12$ and have a suede surface. You can buy them at Skolyx: www.skolyx.se/en/insoles/299-tongue-pad-in-suede-leather.html

      Hello Andre, depends on the last. Do you size down half for your Carlos Santos? If you do and your regular is UK 10.5 then I would say UK 11 for most meccariello lasts. Otherwise if your general size is 10, then 10.5 UK should fit you well. Arch support on AM seems to be good with the stitched waists and fiddleback support.

      Well, you don’t have to. They are notoriously bad at communicating. I would look elsewhere such as stefano bemer or Paolo scafora

      I prefer AM because I consider the shoes aesthetically more pretty. It’s subjective both will be good.

      As good as they might be, I can’t put them in the same level as the actual handmade shoes or at least partly (handwelted, handlasted) for those price points (1000$+). All the British brands you mention have certainly good quality but the are also visually appealing to me (keyword: me). My problem is they don’t “evolve” in a way and keep the same formula forever. Good, contemporary and very often “boring” shoes. Did you know Edward Green uses celastic toe stiffeners? It makes absolutely no difference but it’s still a corner cut for a high price.
      It’s difficult to put a list of the best. Bespoke would be different. Ready to wear? It depends on the price tier.
      From bottom to top, here are some brands that are great to consider:
      Sub 300$: Meermin, CNES, Skolyx, Myrqvist, Yanko
      $300-$500: Carlos Santos (Goodyear and Handgrade, TLB Mallorca, Cheaney, Carmina, Sons of Henrey, etc
      $500-$1000: here’s where things get interesting. You have superb brands like Crockett & Jones mainline, Alfred Sargent, Antonio Meccariello, Passus, Yeossal, the rising Chinese makers etc
      Then go over 1000$ and there’s no limit. As much as I don’t like them, still GG, EG and JL are some of the best in the world. But there’s Antonio Meccariello Handwelted, Paolo Scafora, Saint Crispin’s, Petru & Claymoor, Maftei, Acme Shoemaker, Yohei Fukuda, Hiro Yanagimachi etc.
      The Asian brands are keeping up and improving all the time instead of being static and that’s commendable.
      Crockett is a great brand (i retail them) but the Handgrade line is not worth your money compared to what you get most of the time.
      Cheaney is good value, but not the best. A very underrated entry level shoe for sure though.
      As for cleverly, with the attitude of the owners and their controversy, I am not interested in their shoes.
      Be careful with carmina. Good shoes, certainly overpriced but for the last 12 months their quality control has gone down the drain. And they have shocking customer service.
      GG makes some great looking shoes, leather seems to be a little thinner but from that list you mentioned they are the ones I’d get!
      Sorry I am on mobile I hope all this makes sense!

      @@MisiuAcademy Thank you very much for the detail information.
      Today the whole day, I checked shoe brands like A. Meccariello, Paolo Scafora and Stefano Bemer and found all of them really interesting. As said before, I am watching many videos on YT, and my focus was mainly on British Oxford shoes. My current Loake Oxford is quite good quality but bold and hard. A couple of weeks ago, I bought two Wolf and Shepherd pairs and found them quite comfortable. I will buy casual shoes from this brand in the future. My main focus is on good Oxford shoes, and I will get some shoes from the best Italian brands in the future.
      For the last 15 years, I am wearing good quality shoes, such as British Loake, French Mephisto, German Lloyd and Italian Rossetti etc. I found all of them outstanding quality. German Lloyd was the cheapest but the best and most comfortable. Now I found Wolf and Shepherd much elegant and comfortable. Mephisto is quite comfortable for walking but good in autumn and spring. In the summertime, my feet get hot while I wear these shoes. German Lloyd was so nice and I never got tired by walking long. Handmade or Bespoke shoes are really good. I can not go with measure made or Bespoke but can buy ready to wear only. I hope will buy the best Oxford shoes in the future. And also I am searching for the best warm winter elegant shoes/boots.
      Thank you!
