DÜSSELDORF: First Impressions of this beautiful German city on the River Rhine.

- This was never to be an in-depth exploration, but there would be enough time here to scratch the surface and get a gut feeling of the city. It was once voted as the 6th most liveable city in the world, and I was to quickly discover why. The River Rhine was looking dangerously low, but this didn't stop the locals from enjoying life on the banks.

I visited Dusseldorf in the 80’s and was amazed at the quality of life it’s residents had compared to the UK.
Dusseldorf is the nicest of the larger cities in Germany - much nicer than the completely overrated cities like Cologne or Munich! The promenade along the river is absolutey fantastic - especially walking along there in a warm summernight.....!
Düsseldorf feels a lot larger and a lot smaller at the same time. In some areas or when you're on the U-Bahn it feels like a city the size and importance of Vienna or Hamburg but at the same time many parts also feel like your average, run of the mill, barely over 100-150k inhabitants city. That's what gives it a great vibe.
I’ve been to Düsseldorf many a time I have family there and it is a lovely city 🌆
You've missed the two most beautiful districts, Oberkassel on the other side of the Rhine and Kaiserswerth in the north!

The worst thing for me is that Düsseldorf gets so few hours of sunshine each year. Especially in winter it makes me wanna move southwards.
This was a summer with abnormally little rain. The Rhine will get back to normal when the rain comes back in the fall. I've seen the Rhine overflow its banks several times in the summer when rainfall was abnormally high. Nobody panicked then, now there's no reason to panic either.
Superb hub of Volotea flights out of Dusseldorf to all sorts of European locations, over 30 routes. Great add on for Interrail if you want to skip countries with the attached station
Living in a suburb, I can recommend the following places: A real Japanese temple where Buddhis ceremonies are held, including a temple garden (Ekô-Haus der Japanischen Kultur). Nearby Niederkassel and Oberkassel is a lovely (yet very posh) neighbourhood. In the north, there is the Nordpark with another small Japanese garden. Further north, there is the former city (now district) of Kaiserswerth with its own old town and the ruins of an imperial palace (Kaiserpfalz). Benrath in the south has also a castle and its own old town. If you have more time, you can continue south to 'Urdenbacher Kämpe' (nature reserve) and cross the river Rhine by ferry to Zons (part of the city of Dormagen), a former fortress town. There are many more sites in the surroundings, let me know if you are interested. :)

Is immerman strasse still full of Japanese shops. There used to be many Japanese companies based in Neuss
@@Ground53 Yes, it is the classic Japanese street in Düsseldorf. Not far from it there are also Korean shops.
Just a little note if anyone from the UK is tempted to visit Classic Remise, I drove there in October before lockdown and if you choose wisely there is a weekend called the Old Timer weekend and the car park outside absolutely fills with classics too and it is a superb event. On the way back you can visit the Louwman Museum not far from The Hague to round off a petrol heads weekend.
lovely city especially the old town, i was fortunate to stop there on the way back from berlin for work which i luv i can see why people speak highly of the city also great location to travel across Europe.
I went there. I loved it. I love Dusseldorf. Love Milan aswell. But having a Ferrari in Dusseldorf would suit me. The tower is awesome. Police HQ is enormous

Excellent city. Green spaces, Rhein relaxation and overall respect for the city and visitors by the Düsseldorfers. You missed a trick not sampling the local falling down water (alt)...or maybe you did....Thks for posting. 👍

An excellent short but very interesting tour of Dusseldorf, you held my attention throughout, I'm not long back from touring parts of Europe and found Germany to be really nice with friendly helpful people I would like to visit it more often but at the moment the war in Ukraine is putting me from travelling at the moment, so I'll sit back and enjoy watching your travels and hopefully pick up some tips.👍

Been to Koln, Munich and Hamburg ( x3) still think Hamburg Is hard to beat for culture

I can just imagine you driving back from Germany to Scotland in that Rolls Royce Scott. I was just in Glasgow at the free transport museum on the Clyde with other vehicles, and boats. Very nice. Just need the warm weather to start dancing there. Maybe next year.
So many good memories. Been to Dusseldorf a dozen or more times over the years and is one of my favourite places to go for a long week-end, even stayed at the Hotel Nikko on 4 / 5 occasions. Never seen the Rhine that low though. If you go again try and take in one of the Festivals they have on throughout the year. Spectacular atmosphere at the Uerige during these events with crowds all singing and dancing to party songs. Japan Day in May, Rheinkirmes [Funfair on opposite bank], and the end of the Winter Karnival, usually end Feb or Early March. These are among my Favs & I have taken ,000s of pics of the party goers over the years. Enjoy your Vids, keep 'em coming. Cheers.

Thanks for the visit. This German city appears very well organized, clean and affluent. (Not that other German cities are not these things) . Those “motor cars” on offer appeared to be in impeccable condition through and through. Impressive and all bathing in many, many Deutschmarks. What’s not to like I ask you. 😂
I feel very badly for the Rhine however. Hopefully things will improve.

I;m not sure about nowadays but when I lived in Germany, a very,very long time ago, Duesseldorf was then the most expensive city in Germany. It's a shame you didn't go one evening to the Altstadt (Old Town) and sample one or two of the local beers. But then again, I lived on the other side of the River Rhine in a city called Krefeld over 49 years ago and the Altstadt might not be like that anymore.

Alongside Köln, Düsseldorf is still the most expensive city in NRW tho

I flew to the airport but never went into the city as I was staying with a friend in nearby Essen. Time to go back I think.
Looks like a nice place and knocks the socks of our facilities or lack of here on the West Coast of Scotland. I wonder what visitors must think getting of the boats at Greenock to find themselves at the retail park in Port Glasgow. That's right. There is not much going on Riverside in Glasgow but there is plenty of outstanding musical talent on Sauchiehall Street, too
We should switch cities for a while. I loved Glasgow when I visited it 6 years ago!
Every inch a great German city thanks for showing us around Scott! Shame to see such an iconic river without much water though. I love how the ground floor of the car museum is basically a very expensive gift shop :) Location for Auf Wiedersehen Pet as well? (Although I think it was mainly filmed in England)
No drought problems for the Irish. They just dilute it.
But for authenticity they used German bricks. Incidentally the boys chose Dusseldorf because of it's "livability". "They've got the Old Town". Must have gladdened the hearts of the Dusseldorf tourist office.
Would like to see little Tokyo as I can't go to the real thing atm. Only stricly monitored/organised tours are allowed and that's not my type of holiday at all.

scott , Dusseldorf is a boss place , anywhere in north west germany is really . IE dortmund, essen etc etc , got loads of time for Germany had some good times there and its even better if you like very very good beer .
I worked in Düsseldorf in 1991 . Was a nice place to work in and enjoyed the trams .

Not quite Sunday night, in a hut, in Duesseldorf.
My only comlaint, "it´s called Little Tokio and everything is chinese" Scott, Tokio is in Japan so it´s all japanese. Also, chinese and japanese do look quite different, chinese uses really complex signs pretty much only while japanese just looks a bit more simple and straight forward.
Both Chinese and Japanese use the same Kanji.
@@Horus4302 But yet chinese has 1000 more signs than japanese, now think again why japanese looks like a more simple chinese and way different in the end. English, swedish and spanish all use roman letter, you´re saying they all look the same in written form?
@@Horus4302 Do you know how to tell the difference? If not I happily tell ya, it´s actually not much to know and since you seem to know about Kanji it should be very easy to explain to get it quickly.
I lived in Düsseldorf for a few years. It's nice and compact but there's more happening in Cologne. But to be honest the nearby Netherlands is better and friendlier.

Over the years i too, have been to Germany, not here though but, in Munich, Manheim, Heidelberg ( ? ) Cologne and Hamburg. The german peoples are very friendly and the language easy to pick up, more so for us Scots plus the cities are clean and well layed out.
Railway is spotless.Check out New York.Not so gut.
Go to the Rheinpromenade/Old Town at night, you won't feel comfortable at all, I promise you...

Ich bin Düsseldorfer und leider wurde wieder nur die schöne Seite gezeigt. Wir haben immense Probleme, vor allem bezahlbare Wohnungen und die hohe Kriminalität. Ansonsten ein schönes Video.

Das ist halt ein Video von Touristen für Touristen. Die werden kaum nach klein Marokko (Oberbilk) gehen oder Flingern. Wobei Flingern zum Teil durch die Automile aufgewertet wurde.
Die Mietpreise in Ddorf sind schon heftig. Am Bodensee aber auch nicht viel günstiger. Bin von Düsseldorf aus weggezogen. Meine Eltern wohnen in Erkrath von daher bin ich hin und wieder noch mal in Ddorf.
Das was ich hier unten aber echt vermisse ist das Altbier. Da mache ich jedesmal Biertourismus und muß Kisten aus Ddorf mitnehmen.
Ist auch immer das erste was ich mache wenn ich in Ddorf bin, erstmal nen lecker dröppke vom Faß.
To be honest from someone who lived for a while in Dusseldorf. It got a shithole due to lots of immigration and criminal activity. The area around the train station looks like a third world coutnry
but there are so many immigrants
