  • Until today, the most time I had spent in Spain was a weekend, and saw next to nothing. This time I was setting up base camp in Valencia and using it as a base to explore the province. It took only one day for me to fall in love with Valencia.

What a beautiful place. You can have fresh valencia oranges every day. The architecture is worth the visit. I like that Spain didn't tear it down and put something new and modern in its place. However a couple of those alleies were sketchy even during the day. Truly a place worth visiting.

Hi Scott, if you return to Valencia, and I hope you do, be assured the aquarium oceanographic is so worth its entrance fee, stunning absolutely stunning, also to the north of the city is a zoo/ ecopark beautiful, and the animals have so much room
Also a very strange little museum of toy solider , amazing, it’s in an area where the corners of the passages are decorated by black cats
I just love Valencia and wil return for a fourth visit soon
Just love your videos, keep up the great work

I love Valencia, I'd go there over Barcelona anyday. I find the city easy to negociate as a pedestrian but there is a brilliant network of public transport for those that need it.

I´m from Valencia and I live in Glasgow. I recently discovered your channel and I really enjoy your videos, including this one. But if you don't mind me saying, that paella didn´t look like a proper paella. It looked like a paella for tourists. Peas should be nowhere near a paella! We Valencianos take this stuff pretty seriously. If you want to taste proper local food, look for a place called La Utielana, right in the town centre. Amazing home made food and very affordable!
I hope you enjoy your visit!Ps: Normally it is a lot warmer, I´ve been told that this winter has been freakishly cold!

There must be a bike hire service in Valencia? That is what you need me old mate, the best way to get around any city you want to explore. Experience the fresh air and sunshine while getting around 10x faster than walking without the fatigue. Just looked it up, 10 euros a day gets you an iron horse. I know what I would be doing...Tring Tring!

Visited Valencia in May 2017. Wonderful City for a wander. Nice balance of Tourist destination and working Spanish City.
Personal tip for good reliable cheap eats in the old town is Cerverceria La Surena, which I think is a small(ish) Spanish chain but does lovely fresh eats and drinks at very reasonable prices (still based on reviews) in a great people watching spot.
Thanks for reminding me of a great time.

Was lucky enough to spend 4 months there in 2019 on an Erasmus+ exchange during my time at Strathclyde Uni.
My favourite city by far. So good to see many of the areas I spent a lot of time in; Carmen and my old neighbourhood by the beach Cabañyal.
Time to plan another visit after seeing this. Thanks for the vlog!!

Paella for lunch, the locals way!
We visited in Oct 2005 and they were rebuilding the marina for the Americas Cup. It was also the world fireworks championships! Valencia is home to Las Fallas which happens in mid March which is all about fire and fireworks and complete madness, so having the world champs there made sense.
No trams in 2005 so thats a welcome addition. IIRC there was opposition at the time as they intended to demolish most of the old houses which run behind the beach. Looking at Google maps it looks like the protestors won out as the houses are still there.

I hardly recommend not to eat in tourist restaurants. Instead of eating a bocadillo, our breakfaast tradition is to eat a Valencian esmorzar. And that was not a ''arrós al senyoret paella'', we don't use peas. Even so, I enjoy watching your videos. Maybe If you come here again, I can cook a traditional paella. :D

I've been to Spain two times in my life, to Mallorca and Barcelona. And I must say, that though I was having good feelings about Spain after holidays in Mallorca, I was pretty disappointed of this country after staying in Barcelona, almost everywhere stank and was quite dirty. Also the people (except for the restaurants) were quite unfriendly about any people coming from a different country than Catalonia. Pity that I didn't choose Valencia, next time my decision would certainly be this city.
