    I say diorama! It is FUN to do them, and they are as time consuming as you want them to be. For example creating a building (or a ruin, or a wall) out of matches, toothpicks, sticks, whatever you can find lying around. It can be a nice experience. You can flex your creativity, your fantasy, and best, you can broaden your knowledge about things.

      Once I helped a friend to build a diorama. He wanted a blasted apart building. So I spent time creating the building, I even created some brittle glass-like stuff, out of a glue I think, can't remember, but it broke like glass, and was as thin as a 1:72 model would need to be. Made the windows, the doors, piping, all the good stuff, even some furniture. Painted it to look pristine. The base was a mix of earth, pebbles, and white cement plus some paint so it would look like proper earth. However I left a hole in the middle of the house for the FIRECRACKER!
      The result was quite authentic damage, and it needed very little clean up, surface fixing, and painting. It was kinda dangerous, but FUN! :D We were young! :) Also I can say I blown up a house, even if a small one.

    I imagine an interesting diorama would be a tank factory. However no weathering would be needed, so it would be more about the space, partial assemblies, racks, overhead stuff, workers, etc.

    Yeah but I have noticed on all the tanks with mud you never put any muddy footprints on them from the crew climbing up and down. If the stepping points and the ground is muddy, there are bound to be boot prints or at least the tip points of the boots as they transferred from the ground and step points up to around the hatches, and around the bundling areas on the rear deck.
    There are two types of water, mud transfers on tanks: the splashing of a puddle or river crossing up across the wheels and glacis, and deep rut mud, that comes up and squished through the track and road wheels like toothpaste. If you reach a certain speed, the tracks will begin to clean themselves by throwing the mud off to both sides. The Fury mud scheme seems to suggest it went across light hardball or unimproved road with pothole mud, then washed through several smaller puddles to take some of it off. Then it almost drove clean.
    When you pick up dust it sticks as a coat, and when the gun is fired, all the dust lifts up, and so it leaves dust under protected over-surfaces and at 90 degree turns in the hull metal.
    Just my two cents from driving around at Fort Knox. It also seems like if the cement wasn't reinforced, it would crack along the back sides and hang there on the rebar underneath, or be thrown off.

    I'm not convinced there would be bare steel on the barrel from the recoil, to that degree anyway. These old black and white reference images can be deceiving as well, I always wait til I've found several photos to confirm that something was in fact present on a vehicle.
    But then again the recoil wear does look badass so there is that.

    Martin, you seem to have such boundless enthusiasm for modeling, do you ever find your enthusiasm waning or get fed up? I love modeling but I go long periods where I just can't be bothered actually sitting down and doing some work.
    Having mild depression doesn't help but also other hobbies get in the way and I get put off by safety concerns.
    But nothing gives me such a sense of satisfaction and wellbeing as having a model on the go that I'm really pleased with. I really miss it.

  • @sharkgaminggamer
    @sharkgaminggamer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Now, I'm no expert on these things and I may be wrong, but to me it seems that the oil wouldn't spill quite the way you painted it. In the picture of the real sherman you showed, the tank doesn't have concrete armour, so the oil flows directly down the sides of the tank. On your model, the concrete "shelf" is slanted away from the tank and backwards,so the oil wouldn't flow straight downwards, but adopt a sort of diagonal path (on the sides it would still flow straight downwards, it's just on the top that I think it would be diagonal). I hope you understand what I was trying to say, it would be a lot easier to explain with a picture.
    If it is a "mistake", it's certainly not a big one, the model looks great and you did a really good job, I can't wait to see the diorama and the next model

I recently got my first armor model, a Russian T-62, and I was wondering if you had any ideas or techniques that could help me make it beautiful. I want to make it look really nice but I'm not very knowledgeable in armor modeling, (I'm a ship and wargaming modeler mostly) I'm decent enough at painting so I'm mainly looking for pointers on the construction and armor texture, the model is in 1:35 if that helps, I'm not to good at using reference photos to find textures because I don't know what I'm looking for but any help is welcome, thank you! Keep up the good work, I love the videos.

    How do you store or present your models? After putting so much work into them, it would be shame to get dust or finger marks on them.
