Isaac just sitting there, having accepted his fate as the credits roll as everything around him collapses is among my favorite scenes in gaming of all time.
The first time I played this and got to this point, I thought that's how the game was going to end. We were going to watch Isaac die. But I was very content with that ending. I'm glad Isaac didn't die, but I would have been ok if he had.
Honestly, after everything he went through from both Dead Space 1 and 2, it shows how tired and done he is with the whole Nechromorph bullshit. He just wanted to end it all and also knew that he couldn't have escaped the Titan explosion in time. I was actualy kind of suprised that Ellie risked her life for him, despite not knowing much about him really.
The ending is actually showing how Isaac has overcome and rid his mind of Nicole. The dead space 1 ending shows him looking over and seeing the ghost of Nicole and this ending he looks over and just sees Ellie

For a game FILLED to the brim with cosmic horror, to have THIS little sliver sense of comic relief at the end, really made for a great ending. Truly memorable.
I loved this ending. Isaac had resigned himself to his fate. He had nothing left, but Ellie making a crash entrance through the roof gave him a flicker of hope and a way out and he took it.

I remember playing this the first time, I had kinda let my guard down and even set the controller down since I saw the credits and thought, "well, you had a good run issac." Even as ellie's transmission came through I didnt pick it up. But as soon as she broke through the ceiling and the jet boots kicked in, I scrambled for the controller as I realized the fight was still on. I felt like issac did in that very moment, totally caught off guard but jumping at the opportunity to get the fuck out when all seemed lost. This is without a doubt one of the most well executed and memorable endings of any game to me as a result.
What I found brilliant, is that when you're shooting Nicole, you're not only destroying the marker, you're destroying Nicole, meaning that Issac is moving on.

@@pedropinheiroscor1691 I think all three games are actually pretty decent. You have your slow atmospheric beginning, a half/half middle, and a bombastic ending. I totally understand people who wanted all three games to be just horror, but I'm glad Visceral didn't do that. Even by the end of the first game the atmosphere started to get a bit thinner, and if they had made two more games exactly like that I don't think the series would have been as memorable as it is.

The romance between Ellie, Isaac and Norton is disgusting. Tau Volantis isn't so interesting like Aegis 7 or Titan Station. That villain looks like Elton John and his motives are weak and poor. There is something so impactful about Isaac sitting down, looking all helpless and defeated, the ending theme kicking in, the announcer warning all personnel to evacuate immediately in the background, everything around him collapsing while he obviously has more important things to worry about, and the credits rolling for a very brief time. I keep coming back to this video every now and then just to see it over and over again.

Well let’s see, in the first 5 Minutes of Dead Space we encounter the Necromorphs and in Halo, in the first 10 Minutes, Halo had way more build up, got us used to the characters and chief
I feel like on some levels this is where the series should've ended because everything was wrapped up nicely in a secure little ending which was rounded off nicely. However, Dead Space 3 did resolve the issues of 'What about everybody else?' and it answered that question and told what 'Make us whole' actually meant with that brethren moon business. I feel like it had major flaws though. It had a Co-Op focus which is bloody awful, it ended on Isaac dying as apposed to 'He escaped and saved everyone' like in this ending and beyond general design flaws, awful writing and generally poor design choices like the whole resource gathering thing, it's definitely not a deal breaker. Dead Space 2 is by far the most superior out of the series as an actual game though. It retained the spirit of the original and used it as a jumping off point to create a badass action game as apposed to a horror game which is a bit of a lurch but it was still good and well designed. It was an amazing game.
Issac didn't die in Dead space 3, at the end of the credits you can hear him call out Ellie's name. The awaken dlc for DE3 shows what happens when he wakes up after that nasty fall.
The Isaac story line would've ended perfectly with him sitting down and facing his fate dying with the station collapsing around him. I bet if that had happened we would've gotten a new refreshing setting in DS3, hell even if we didn't get anything exciting nothing can be as cringy and awful as the DS3 love triangle bs and random shitty story.
You know as much as I hate to agree with you, you're right haha. Too much romance for a thriller, the love triangle was fuckin weird. But I enjoyed the bromance that blossomed between Isaac and John, they turned into friends by being mutual dicks and I loved it.
I would have preferred the force behind the markers to remain a mystery. It makes them scarier and until dead space 3 came out I wondered just what unfathomable cosmic horror Isaac briefly, just barely, made contact with. Some secrets are better left unknown, some dark corners of space left unexplored, and some mysteries should just be forgotten. Also it makes Isaac that much more heroic for being able to defy something so alien and terrifying. Dead Space 3, took all the mystery out of it and made the lovecraftian horror vulnerable, which makes it no longer truly lovecraftian.
After playing this game countless times I didn't know that he finally stopped trying to fix other peoples' problems. He broke free of engineer syndrome and sat down. "Warning containmen-" Not my problem. Not my problem, just wanna sleep.
I love dead space 2. While nothing beats ds1, ds2's storyline was amazing in its own right. The focus on isaac's mental trauma and how he overcomes that trauma throughout the game is great, to the point where i was content with him possibly dying at the end because i felt his story was finished

I'm sorry but this is by far the greatest ending to any video game I've ever played... Not only is Isaac bad ass, but the final boss mission is inside his own FUCKING MIND! THAT'S INSANE! And then at the ending he sits down and the music starts playing... He just accepts his death... I started crying at that part where the Dead Space 2 logo came up... I was in shock... and when Ellie came up my heart started going. Greatest game I've ever had the honor of playing.
I've beaten this game so 3 times and I come back now and realize when he lets that sigh of relief out at the end, its because his dead girlfriend wasn't there like the first one. lol
This is where the series canon ends for me. Dead Space 3 never happened. It's an untold story, I'd rather have nothing than have Dead Space 3. I will never forgive you, EA.
Rocco Siffredi I also had many playthroughs of Dead Space 3. That doesn't change the fact that this game threw away almost every little piece of lore and backstory we previously had while ruining gameplay as well. Enemy placement and design wasn't NEARLY as tight as Dead Space 1 or 2 ( the latter being far superior IMO ). They fucked it up bad.
I remember the first time I saw this ending. Yes, Isaac was ready to accept his fate, it was sad and solemn. But the sudden rescue ship that broke through the roof - it was life-affirming, inspiring, enthusiastic!!! Exactly that, everything that was not there the whole game, and that was even taken away at every opportunity - was returned at this moment. This is one of those endings that I want to say: HELL YEAH!!!
Had this conversation with friends last night. Isaac has such great character development throughout the series and by the end of Dead Space 3, the man just didn't want to live anymore. He could've very well finished the machine, ran with Ellie and lived a happy life, but he knew his mind would never be the same and didn't want to continue to suffer and bring Ellie down with him. The DLC is neat, but I like to look at the original ending of Dead Space 3 as the official ending.
@ElT0mat0 Another great Moment: when Isaac sit's down and the Violin starts to play. As the credit's started to roll i thought: "Well, that's it, that's the end." But then BAM! the screen appears and Ellie saves Isaac from certain Death.

One of the most beautiful and artistic endings to a game. Isaac slumping to the ground knowing he completed his mission while the station explodes around him, the credits roll and the somber violin in the background is just pure art. Imo they should have let Isaac die. His mission is complete. He made peace with Nicole, saved Ellie,killed Tiedemann, destroyed the marker and the necromorphs, it would've been a fitting ending. But they just kept him to milk the franchise more. Honestly I was surprised when Ellie came back to save Isaac, I would've expected to just let the credits roll.
This ending stuck with me for awhile in the best way possible. Finishing and getting to re-live the first remake made me so excited and hopeful that this gets the remake treatment, also.

After years later this is still a great game, I only hope they remaster this too so we can have this feeling come back to us. Also, when Ellie crashes through the hull, and gravity fails. Isaac just pops his helmet and boosts towards the shuttle mid fall. Just total badass moment
didn't get to play DS1 but I played through DS2 and when I got the ending it just looked like Issac forgot something with the oh shit expression on his face
The only reason he looked at her like that is because the last time he turned right, Ghost Nicole attacked him. His expressions shows it, at 5:02 he relaxes and believes he's finally safe, at 5:28 he's spooked because he remembers what happened the last time and turns his head slowly only to find Ellie instead of Nicole.

I legit thought at the end Isaac was so mentally insane that from our perspective Ellie was there but from his perspective, he saw a monster and killed Ellie offscreen.
He was relieved that he had someone. In Dead Space 1, at the ending of the game, Isaac went on a small ship to fly away, he thought he was safe. So he wanted to make sure and started looking around the ship, it looked like no one was here, until then, his wife (hallucination) came out of nowhere and jumpscared the hell out of him.

Just a thought (and I may be over thinking this lol)..But when the guy spears Isaac through the shoulder it must have pierced through the suite right? So when Ellie blows through the station..Wouldn’t he probably die during the effects of zero g as the air would escape through the hole that’s now obviously his suite or depressurize or whatever? Still an awesome ending.
Imagine if Isaac died here, in true Lovecraft fashion. He stopped one threat only for it to be revealed there were multiple markers at the end making his sacrifice meaningless. It would be fucking amazing and should have the true ending, making Isaac one of the best tragic heroes in videogames. It wouldn't just add to the emotion that the game has, it would raise the stakes in the dead space universe. If Isaac can die, the new hero that they would have chosen for 3 would have absolutely no chance, drastically raising the stakes. It would also follow the theme of the hero dying, ( Dead Space martyr, severed, and the mobile game). Isaac is my favorite video game character ever, but he should have died here sad and alone.

I love this game! I just beaten it for the first time today, and I'm already startin' my next playthrough! That endin' was fuckin' hilarious! I was waitin' for somethin' to happen as soon as Issac sat down all relieved and happy, especially since Nicole had appeared right next to him in part 1, at the end, lookin' like the girl from "The Ring". I just knew she was goin' to appear again, sportin' her "Big Trouble in Little China" look she had in this game! I was crackin' up at the end at Ellie!

While Dead Space 2 was in fact more awesome than its predecessor, Dead Space 1 was MORE SCARY than any of its sequels.

The Isaac story line would've ended perfectly with him sitting down and facing his fate dying with the station collapsing around him. I bet if that had happened we would've gotten a new refreshing setting in DS3, hell even if we didn't get anything exciting nothing can be as cringy and awful as the DS3 love triangle bs and random shitty story.
You know as much as I hate to agree with you, you're right haha. Too much romance for a thriller, the love triangle was fuckin weird. But I enjoyed the bromance that blossomed between Isaac and John, they turned into friends by being mutual dicks and I loved it.
They swapped the writer for 3, so 2 is where it really ends for me personally.
I would have preferred the force behind the markers to remain a mystery. It makes them scarier and until dead space 3 came out I wondered just what unfathomable cosmic horror Isaac briefly, just barely, made contact with. Some secrets are better left unknown, some dark corners of space left unexplored, and some mysteries should just be forgotten. Also it makes Isaac that much more heroic for being able to defy something so alien and terrifying. Dead Space 3, took all the mystery out of it and made the lovecraftian horror vulnerable, which makes it no longer truly lovecraftian.
After playing this game countless times I didn't know that he finally stopped trying to fix other peoples' problems. He broke free of engineer syndrome and sat down.

I love dead space 2. While nothing beats ds1, ds2's storyline was amazing in its own right. The focus on isaac's mental trauma and how he overcomes that trauma throughout the game is great, to the point where i was content with him possibly dying at the end because i felt his story was finished

I'm sorry but this is by far the greatest ending to any video game I've ever played... Not only is Isaac bad ass, but the final boss mission is inside his own FUCKING MIND! THAT'S INSANE! And then at the ending he sits down and the music starts playing... He just accepts his death... I started crying at that part where the Dead Space 2 logo came up... I was in shock... and when Ellie came up my heart started going. Greatest game I've ever had the honor of playing.

I've beaten this game so 3 times and I come back now and realize when he lets that sigh of relief out at the end, its because his dead girlfriend wasn't there like the first one. lol
People were dismissive over giving Issac a voice but his actor did an amazing job and it made him feel more like a human being.
This is where the series canon ends for me. Dead Space 3 never happened.
It's an untold story, I'd rather have nothing than have Dead Space 3.

That doesn't change the fact that this game threw away almost every little piece of lore and backstory we previously had while ruining gameplay as well. Enemy placement and design wasn't NEARLY as tight as Dead Space 1 or 2 ( the latter being far superior IMO ).

I remember the first time I saw this ending. Yes, Isaac was ready to accept his fate, it was sad and solemn.
But the sudden rescue ship that broke through the roof - it was life-affirming, inspiring, enthusiastic!!! Exactly that, everything that was not there the whole game, and that was even taken away at every opportunity - was returned at this moment.
This is one of those endings that I want to say: HELL YEAH!!!
Had this conversation with friends last night. Isaac has such great character development throughout the series and by the end of Dead Space 3, the man just didn't want to live anymore. He could've very well finished the machine, ran with Ellie and lived a happy life, but he knew his mind would never be the same and didn't want to continue to suffer and bring Ellie down with him. The DLC is neat, but I like to look at the original ending of Dead Space 3 as the official ending.

@ElT0mat0 Another great Moment: when Isaac sit's down and the Violin starts to play. As the credit's started to roll i thought: "Well, that's it, that's the end." But then BAM! the screen appears and Ellie saves Isaac from certain Death.
I really felt that part where he sits down accepting his fate. It feels like you're sitting down with him until the end.

One of the most beautiful and artistic endings to a game. Isaac slumping to the ground knowing he completed his mission while the station explodes around him, the credits roll and the somber violin in the background is just pure art. Imo they should have let Isaac die. His mission is complete. He made peace with Nicole, saved Ellie,killed Tiedemann, destroyed the marker and the necromorphs, it would've been a fitting ending. But they just kept him to milk the franchise more. Honestly I was surprised when Ellie came back to save Isaac, I would've expected to just let the credits roll.

The Awakening dlc does, THAT'S what can be ignored while the ending of the base game is how the series ends. I still play the games often, especially 3, so I know all the details thoroughly.
After years later this is still a great game, I only hope they remaster this too so we can have this feeling come back to us.
Also, when Ellie crashes through the hull, and gravity fails. Isaac just pops his helmet and boosts towards the shuttle mid fall. Just total badass moment

The only reason he looked at her like that is because the last time he turned right, Ghost Nicole attacked him. His expressions shows it, at 5:02 he relaxes and believes he's finally safe, at 5:28 he's spooked because he remembers what happened the last time and turns his head slowly only to find Ellie instead of Nicole.

I legit thought at the end Isaac was so mentally insane that from our perspective Ellie was there but from his perspective, he saw a monster and killed Ellie offscreen.

He was relieved that he had someone. In Dead Space 1, at the ending of the game, Isaac went on a small ship to fly away, he thought he was safe. So he wanted to make sure and started looking around the ship, it looked like no one was here, until then, his wife (hallucination) came out of nowhere and jumpscared the hell out of him.

I absolutely loved this ending. It's definitely up there with defeating Sovereign in Mass Effect on my list of favorite endings.

So when Ellie blows through the station..Wouldn’t he probably die during the effects of zero g as the air would escape through the hole that’s now obviously his suite or depressurize or whatever? Imagine if Isaac died here, in true Lovecraft fashion. He stopped one threat only for it to be revealed there were multiple markers at the end making his sacrifice meaningless. It would be fucking amazing and should have the true ending, making Isaac one of the best tragic heroes in videogames. It wouldn't just add to the emotion that the game has, it would raise the stakes in the dead space universe. If Isaac can die, the new hero that they would have chosen for 3 would have absolutely no chance, drastically raising the stakes. It would also follow the theme of the hero dying, ( Dead Space martyr, severed, and the mobile game). Isaac is my favorite video game character ever, but he should have died here sad and alone.

I love this game! I just beaten it for the first time today, and I'm already startin' my next playthrough! That endin' was fuckin' hilarious! I was waitin' for somethin' to happen as soon as Issac sat down all relieved and happy, especially since Nicole had appeared right next to him in part 1, at the end, lookin' like the girl from "The Ring". I just knew she was goin' to appear again, sportin' her "Big Trouble in Little China" look she had in this game! I was crackin' up at the end at Ellie!
