I started a nonstimulant 5 days ago and i swear i feel the difference. Not in attention or hyperactivity but in executive function that ive always had huge issues with. Yesterday i cooked myself dinner for the 3rd time this whole year. I don't eat things that require more than 2 minutes of preparation, so this was a huge step for me. I managed to start working in the early evening instead of pushing it to the last possible hour like i would do always. Attention is still scattered and i keep forgetting and losing things, but what the medication did so far is just priceless to me.
I am 41, I started atomoxetine 10mg (non-stimulant) a week ago. It turned down my emotional dysregulaton, my executive function is better. Today I went to grocery, cooked, did laundry, did dishes. Earlier this was one week of doing. Forgetfullness and hyperactivity stayed, but I am not anxious. I like this new me.
@@heathersimpson3051 My psychiatrist told me, that 10 mg was only a trailer :D She said the daily dose have to be increased to 80 mg. December was a very long and rough month for me (and half of January). I've discovered almost every possible side effects in that time. I increased 10 to 20 to 40 to 80 mg. After every step I had some wierd days. But after the first day of 80 mg it took 2 weeks for my body to get acclimatized. I had dizziness, loss of appetite, dry mouth, tiredness, sweating but cold fingers, sometimes erectile disfunction. Now I feel only minimal side effects. Yes, it takes a while to work properly, sometimes it needs 2-3 months. Not just I feel but my coworkers see too that I became to new man. (My doc said if this drug is not working that means probably I have other contition, not ADHD)
Same! I was hesitant about non-stimulants working out for me, but i'm really liking how my brain is starting to feel. While most stims didn't work, or made my anxiety 10x worse, with strattera i'm just noticing small things. Like rather than ruminating or or having emotional reactions I feel I have no control over, things that usually bother me happen and I'm able to let go more easily.... i'm used to constant anxiety and depression but i'm feeling content more often. my mood overall just feels lighter and I didn't expect that at all.
Can absolutely tell this video is made by someone who has adhd, because the visual diagrams being consistently on screen are an absolute JOY lmao, really appreciate that touch makes it easy to stay engaged and not drift off into my own thoughts as often
❤️Tip for Stimulant users: I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD combined type and started taking 36mg Concerta … The Dr instructed me to follow a method called “Holiday Drug” which means that you pause the medication once or twice a week preferably on weekends where you would need it the least … I’m not saying that it makes all the side effects disappear but trust me it’s literally the golden rule to get the best out of it for as long as possible ✨ much love guys
Note that sometimes you do infact want to take it on a holiday. You should really only consider not taking it whenever you know a day is going to be slow, or its not important enough to focus on. Holidays tend to be days you want to focus on such as a trip to the Grand Canyon and you don't want your memory and attention to it to be all messed up.
(another combined type dx here!) my doctor advised the same sort of thing! I used to take it on work days and miss it on weekends - but the holiday can be as long or short as you want, the longer the better the tolerance reset tends to be. additionally, it only occured to me after I started vyvanse that, oh gawd will I get a tolerance, will I get "cold turkey" side effects?!!" before realising that I regularly stopped my meds and had no issue :') idk if that's because ADHD brain uses ADHD meds differently to non ADHD brains, but... yeah, to end with the way my doctor put it, "your ADHD meds can be used 'on tap', like draught beer/cider":'D it was a way of putting it that really clicked for me hahah. having said that, I've seen plenty of people who take it daily and this is personal advise that my doctor said to me with regards to my own script!
Can we just appreciate how perfect this video is? not only is she conveying important information but she also put so much effort into making a COOL and very creative video. I loved this so much and it shows how caring you are to your target audience. Kudos to you!
I recommend you hit up this legit plug they're very reliable ship to any location they've got Adderall shrooms ketamine dmt, lsd, spores, microdose and other psychedelic stuffs
Thank you so much! Not only was this very timely for me (I have my first "let's discuss ADHD meds" appointment next week), but this is the first video of any kind in AGES that I haven't had to turn up the playback speed on in order to stay engaged. I watched the whole thing in one sitting without having to rewind sections due to tuning out! Your editing style and your lively speaking style are perfect for me, and I suspect for a large portion of your target audience.
Holy crap, you can get TESTED for medication????? You blew my mind. I'm at the very start of getting a diagnosis, but wow. Thank you for this video, it helped a lot!
I know right!!! I did NOT KNOW this. This is an insanely helpful piece of information. I wanna get off Strattera and try something else but I don't wanna take another 3 precious months to build up the dosage slowly in my system if I go back to it! I'll DEFINITELY learn more about these tests and see if I can get one done.
Several sources says it has not been peer reviewed and that there's not enough studies to prove it's reliable at all. I tried to look for that and all I got to are scammy-looking websites.
This was the most thorough overview of medications. Thank you. I've been on this journey for almost 8 years now and no psychiatrist or pharmacist has ever tried to explain the mechanics behind it to me
This actually explained a lot of things about concerta for me. When I was taking it I always did so after eating my breakfast (huge meal xD) and it sometimes felt like there wasn't much of a different after an hour and through out the day (when its supposed to start kicking in). However for whatever reason I had this idea to take the meds 1-2 hour before waking up. Meaning I'd set an alarm before the actual wake up alarm, take the meds then go back to sleep. The difference was literally day and night. not only I woke not tired as hell (something I always suffered from) but I felt the meds and it was amazing! Seeing this video made sense to why that made a difference. Thank you!
I've been finally diagnosed at 60..been offered to start Non stimulants..now weighing up the pros and cons...my anticancer sometimes go of the radar,I don't feel any "joy"its as I a light switch has never been turned kn,I find it difficult to concentrate, anyone started meds this late I life
@@Meryl-je7fx "Joy" and "concentration" are things that the stimulant medications can help with as far as i know. Unfortunately i dont really know if it's recommended at that age but as far as i know, something as important as not feeling "joy" should be important enough to make you go to a professional, who will be able to give you an answer. My knowledge is not much but i've generalized the stimulant vs non-stimulant as: If you need help doing anything at all, even the things you like -> stimulant If you need help doing the things you don't like specially -> non-stimulant Stimulant is for dopamine deficiency only And non-stimulant seems to be more for dopamine deficiency+anxiety/stress disorder I encourage you to be happy, seek help!
I was on a nonstimulant for a while then my mom made me stop taking it and switched me to adderall which literally changed my life. For about a month I had the medication and it literally saved my life. Before I had no motivation or focus and once I started adderall I could finally focus and do my work. I’m 16 so still a minor and when I told my pediatrician it was helping me so much and I was finally happy and could go out and socialize without crippling social anxiety. I finally felt like I could be myself and I had some motivation I had never felt before and my grades started to improve. Upon hearing this I guess my pediatrician wasn’t a fan of how “dependent” I had become on it and decided to cut me back from 20mg to 5mg. I never had any sort of withdrawal or whatever you want to call it but the 5mg literally did nothing and when I told her this she said that we couldn’t up the dose because I was a minor and the 5mg was a normal dose for kids my age. I honestly don’t know what to do I finally had a good month after so many years of being unmotivated and sad and I feel like they just pulled the rug out from under me and put me back to square one I feel so defeated.
Thank you for creating this in a way that made me able to stay focused to it 😂 the editing, pop ups and pictures wouldn’t allow my brain to get distracted by anything else, I was constantly like “ooo what’s this popping up” and I was paying attention! Thanks to you I also have finally got a doctors appointment next week to move forward in getting a diagnosis (never would have thought of ADHD if I hadn’t come across your Twitter) and it feels like I’ve found a missing puzzle piece to why I am the way I am. Thank you.
Thank you SO MUCH for saying this and for watching. It makes me really happy to know I've helped in some way 🥰 Wishing you the best of luck at your appointment next week!
It very much depends person to person! I recommend trying to see a doctor about it but researching it yourself can help give you clarity, this page helped me greatly
@@TinkerbellBayeeI could never finish the things I planned on time. I do everything at the last minute and procrastinate. If my exam date is not close, I cannot devote myself to studying, I find it very difficult to focus. These are the reasons why I think maybe I have ADHD. But I think this are so normal features among many students and not enough to say I have ADHD. Maybe I am just trying to find an excuse to my laziness.
Non-stimulant video please! I just got diagnosed and am taking strattera atm and I really wanna know more. I love how ur video keeps us entertained and not lose focus and sleepy also. It makes learning more fun💖
@@monicarenee7949 It's been going great! It's a life changer for me, don't worry if you experience any side effects like sleepiness and headaches tho, its normal. But if you encounter anything unusual then I suggest u contact ur doctor. Medicine is a trial and error thing that takes time, and patience so u might not get the perfect medicine for you right away. I for one am getting higher doses every 2 months or so since I'm still not getting the desired effects but I am indeed still getting some progress
@@tayloralisonswift9544 I am thanks! Being consistent with the medicine is a bit hard for me unfortunately since strattera is difficult to find in my area. It takes 1 month for you to experience the full effect and you have to be consistent which I couldn't do unfortunately. I still take it when I can tho and it still helps me focus a bit! You'll only experience some headaches if it's your first time or when you haven't taken the medicine in a while.
I can't believe I could have been tested for compatible medicine rather than just going through every variant available!! With every new thing I find out about adhd related stuff I feel like I've always been so lied to by my doctors 😔😔
My doctor mentioned this and told me the reason he never recommends it is because it is EXTREMELY expensive and no insurance covers it, plus it isn't super accurate to start with so you still have the trial and error but now you've had to travel to get the test done (uncommon testing) and you're broke haha.
@@nikoh6703 If I were you, I would change doctors. The moment you know more than and have to educate your own doctors is the moment you should be walking out the door. Good luck finding a new one! 👍
@@jo-dm9tx not trying to be paranoid or conspiracy-like but... Maybe your doctor benefits financially from your continuous office visits and the percentage he gets from prescribing (and experimenting) several medications on you? I would at least get a second opinion on this generic testing from at least a couple more doctors to see if he’s right (or not).
I credit my ADHD for giving me less comprehension of how to self care and do the little things that improve quality of life. Daily habbits, or values that I was sorely lacking until Ive come to learn them with some measure of difficulty over the years.
How is it that I’ve watched probably a dozen or two of these kinds of videos and this one managed to pack the most amount of helpful information in the shortest amount of time?
This is one of the more detailed but also simplified and well explained videos on ADHD meds that I've ran into. Thank you for investing time and effort into these videos! Well appreciated🙏
When I was a teenager I was on Adderall and Wellbutrin. The Wellbutrin helped counter the anxiety/depressive side affects of the Adderall. But my mother had my Dr take me off the Wellbutrin cold turkey saying I was too young to be depressed. (I was depressed) and my moods and emotions got thrown so off, that I just neglected to tell my mom I needed a refill. Once I became 18 I took myself off it completely. I definitely need ADHD medication, I'm just afraid of changing.
I don’t even know if I have adhd or or not but this presentation was easier to pay attention to rather than listening to someone just talk for 10 minutes
For stimulants- there’s also a form of methylphenidate that’s sold under the brand name Daytrana. It’s a patch form of Concerta, and its main perk is having a lot more control over when it starts and stops kicking in. I also find it affects my appetite less than Concerta. Some doctors also prescribe drugs for ADHD off-label, which just means that the drug isn’t intended to treat ADHD but has been shown to have a positive impact on it.
I just wanted to comment and say this is a really great and clear video! I love the animations and it makes it so much easier to digest! I tried watching other videos explaining these medication and just couldn't sit through it (even though it's my field and I'm used to scientific talks). So thanks for making this ADHD friendly video :)
I'm an addict in recovery. I been clean for 3 years. I was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago at the age of 41. I started out with non stimulants, because other non narcotic medications have helped me with other diagnosis. I started with Strattera, I went from the lowest to the highest dose with no help for my ADHD. I switched to Wellbutrin, going from the lowest to highest dose with no help at all. So I switched doctor's because I'm tired of dealing with ADHD and wanted to try stimulants. But my previous doctor refused to prescribe stimulants. My new doctor suggested Vyvanse. So far I feel a huge difference and works great for me.
I love vyvanse, but please be incredibly careful with it, especially because you are a recovering addict. Vyvanse can become highly addictive. And theres a link between it and psychosis in the case of very long term use. But i hope it all works out for you, it changed my own life for the better.
This was literally the most helpful resource I have been able to find and pay attention to. I was diagnosed as a kid but never got medication and I struggled so hard. Barely graduated high-school. Come to my 30s, I got my shit in a pile and got accepted to nursing school. I started back in August. I got put on wellbutrin (sensitive to stimulants and have anxiety) and I noticed a difference, but not enough. She had me try vyvanse and I've maybe taken it 5 times. I had like 2 of those days where I felt productive as hell. Then all the other days I felt like it made all of my adhd symptoms worse! A little anxiety but like holy crap even when I wasn't anxious, I still could not focus to save my life. Like worse than normal. I know sometimes meds don't work, but can they make symptoms worse!?
My daughter was diagnosed with adhd today. Medication was recommended but I’m just trying to make the best decision for her without worrying about everyone else’s worries and horror stories.
Wishing you luck with this journey! I recommend starting at a low dose and tracking how it affects her! Don't forget you can always go back to the doctor and request a dose change or new med. ❤️
The effect on the digestive system is exactly why I'm switching to a nonstimulant (Qelbree). I have stomach ulcers and realized recently that my flare ups correlated to when i took my adderall.
@@evolveedith3996 It didn't hurt my stomach like adderall did, but I experienced another side effect I've heard can be common. It works for some people, but personally it made me extremely depressed and suicidal while not actually working that well. I'm on focalin now. Works super well, and while I do get some GI issues its way less than on adderall.
Wel I’m on welbutrin for anxiety and depression but now that I’m watching this I rlly think I should get tested for ADHD bc it has helped me focus and get things done. I didn’t even know this was an ADHD medication
Hi! 33yo female that has finally found the right treatment for my ✌️ADD✌️. I've always known I've struggled with focus/attention, but it got to a point where it was really.. really impacting my job and that's what pushed me to seek & accept help. For the record, I have been clinically diagnosed with major depressive disorder, anxiety, and ADHD so none of this is speculation or self diagnoses. Since teenage years, depression was always an issue and tried several meds over the years, but nothing fully worked and I hated the idea of taking meds. All of those meds were SSRIs. Fast forward to the last year, I was in an exceptionally fragile mental state, but I found a good therapist and psychiatrist. We worked to get the depression and anxiety under control thru meds and therapy.. and as the typical treatment goes, presumably fixing the depression and anxiety will help the attention and focus. Wrong. Not for me. I was on lexapro, kept upping the dose but it wasn't quite working and after increasing the a couple times didn't do what we needed it to do, Buproprion was introduced. I noticed a tiny sliver of focus improvement and just what I describe as my brain "firing" better if that makes sense.. this told us we were now moving in the right direction. I decided to come off the lexapro because i was also having side effects and stay on the Buproprion.. eventually had to up the Buproprion to the max, but I was finally vshowing some signs of improved ADHD symptoms. It was working, just not good enough.. Enter adderall. Learning that NDRIs were working (not the SSRIs) I finally agreed to try Adderral. I'm so afraid of addiction cause it runs in my family, so I declined it for a while until we maxed out on the Buproprion. The first day, didn't notice anything. The second day, I was calm AND I was tired by evening and slept.. which I've always had bad sleep problems. I couldn't believe it. Now here we are months later. I take adderral xr and the buproprion and my brain is working. [happy years] I can focus so much better (granted it's not always perfect but that's ok), my memory for remembering important things has improved, moods improved. It's really been so helpful. It doesn't fix all of the issues all of the time, some days it works better than others (and based on this video I think the multivitamin I take WITH it, may be affecting efficacy). One big thing I've noticed is in my anxiety and depression.. a huge improvement. Because I'm able to be productive at work, I'm not stuck in the vicious cycle of being stressed and frustrated cause I can't focus/get anything done and then not being able to focus/get things done cause I'm so stressed and frustrated. If you know, you know. I don't take the adderral every day, only on work days (that's my personal preference in fear of addiction, and the doctor is ok with this schedule), but I do take the Buproprion daily. It seems to be the right concoction for me. Not at all saying this is the right mixture for any one else, just that it works for me. But also that there is hope and I believe there is a right treatment for everyone.. whether it's meds, therapy, or both. Both for me. Good luck on your journey!!!
And i will also say, ADHD is deeper than just the focus issues. I learned a lot of things I struggled with were actually ADHD issues. 🤯 There's not enough education and awareness on this... especially for women! I've always had an over achiever mentality so the ADHD went completely unnoticed, dismissed, and when focus issues were brought up to doctors over the years- rejected. Because I got good grades in my younger years of school, I could hold a job, I was rather "successful" by some opinions.. I wasn't taken seriously. At all. It was always credited to depression.. but we now know it was the ADHD. So, advocate for yourself! Find a good doctor, a good mental health professional, and get properly diagnosed and explore treatments that work for you. Before anyone comes at me for getting good grades and being an overachiever and says that it can't be ADHD.. Yes is possibly to be highly functioning and have ADHD. There were other factors as to why I "perfeformed" so well.. aka trauma responses to my life situations during those times. But that's a whole other issue of it's own. Anyways. I csnt stress this enough.. Advocate for yourself, find a doctor that will listen and take you seriously to find out what is really the diagnosis. I wish I would have many years ago.
I was recently diagnosed after struggling for 26 years! Straterra made me sweat buckets, feel nauseous, and had zero appetite. On a low dose of adderall now, which some days has me bright and alert, but other days not so hot. Curious to see what our third follow up looks like after learning more!
Try vyvanse had similar symptoms with adderall plus robotic feeling and more anxious and fidget a lot, switched to vyvanse and made my anxiety go away, feel more confident and overal more like myself
Iv been off Adderall for 14 years, tried wellbutrin and had WAY to many unexpected side effects to personality. Gender preferences were differnt, I gained so much empathy thay seeing acts of kindness would make me cry tears of joy( and I'm still having lingering empathy to happy/sad things that never even phased me previously) it's like I didn't even have emotions before wellbutrin been off for months and in still feel feelings, I lasted from age 6 to 32 feeling almost nothing with a few exceptions between quitting Adderall at 18 and starting wellbutrin at 32, since the wellbutrin iv suddenly feltnlike a pregnant woman. On one hand I hate Adderall and all the doctors that gave it to me ages 6 to 18 and how it ruined my body, but since my mid 20s iv wanted back on it desperately now that my body is done growing becuase no man should be eating 4000+ calories a day at 5'9 and still weight 150. I cant grow any more so no point handicapping myself without the meds everyday
I started Strattera (non-stim) 5 days ago and it absolutely is working. No one can tell me otherwise. My husband notices the difference. My friends notice the difference. I notice the difference. My mind is quiet for the first time in my life. I don't feel constantly anxious. I haven't been irritated or frustrated since I started taking them and I'm usually upset / frustrated multiple times a day and my poor husband has to deal with that. I can't get myself to do anything but once I started taking the drugs, I'm doing WAY MORE in a day than I could do in like a week and it feels EASY. I'm remembering stuff so much better - my husband teaches me Japanese and that was how he even noticed I had adhd in the first place. I'd forget things almost immediately. He literally cried the second or third day I was on the meds because I "never would have remembered that before". Side note: I am small. I fast regularly. I started on 40mg. Not sure if these make any difference but it absolutely *does* work sooner than 2 weeks. I've seen tons of others say the same. I think it just depends on the individual and the dose.
Wow this helped a lot. I got diagnosed at 22 just last week and I’m not sure if I want to start medication or what medications I should try first. My medical therapist first recommended that I start on concerta. Thank you so so much! ❤
Thanks for the vid, it was very helpful. 🥰 I just got prescribed Strattera (my first ADHD medication) and I don't think I'm gonna stay on it. I have a history of dopamine deficiency in my family and Strattera, being a non-stimulant, doesn't help increase dopamine at all.
Wellbutrin has been a savior for me. I used to take vyvanse for a year or 2 but I have extreme anxiety and insomnia I was going days without sleeping having heart palpitations and lost so much weight I was in the unhealthy weight range. Wellbutrin has helped me focus but not feel like I’m on speed if that makes since. however my brother says vyvanse is great for him and works perfect. It’s crazy how different our bodies are
Thank you!!! I loved this. Very informative, very nicely put together and straight forward. I’ve been taking Vyvanse and it really works for me. I’d love to hear more about drinking coffee while on any of these meds. Also, what makes some of us metabolize these meds so fast! In my case Vyvanse would last only about 5-6 hours and then I need to take a low dose of adderall if Im having a long day. Soo complex!
Meth is actually Schedule II, meaning it is prescribed for ADHD as well as obesity. It is only available in a 5mg immediate-release tablet sold under the brand Desoxyn
Thanks for this. I was just diagnosed yesterday at age 43 and my daughter (15) has her apt on Monday. Dr prescribed a non-stim drug- I forget which one. I just want to do better with everything I’ve sucked at forever! So I’m trying to learn about the different meds and the risks vs benefits for both of us but I know also that with insurance sometimes you have to try certain ones first before they’ll pay for you to try other ones…
Medication is life changing for people who need it , like me , but I think doctors don’t put enough emphasis on the other ways to handle ADHD in combination to the pills. Lifestyle changes are so important , starting with nutrition , sleep & organization. That way medication is just a helper , but YOU are doing the work ☺️
I recommend you hit up this legit plug they're very reliable ship to any location they've got Adderall shrooms ketamine dmt, lsd, spores, microdose and other psychedelic stuffs
I took non stimulant Atomoxentine and felt the effects literally within the 5 hour period. I think it just depends on peoples metabolism. I work out a lot, and have always been overly sensitive to drugs and would imagine this is no different. Guessing the working out part also would play a huge role in some way.
@@matthewjohnson1891 Yea, feels like all the noise around me has been quietted down. That best way for me to explain what adhd feels like is like having a group of people all yelling at me at once and trying understand and concentrate on 1 person out of the group with the lowest voice. With that being said, after about almost a year on the meds, i do sort of miss the chaos of my brain. It sometimes feels too quiet and worries me that im loosing my personality in the process. Ive been taking breaks from it lately because of that, will start taking it again once i feel overwhelmed by my thoughts.
@@RurouniKenshinShinta omggg samee i started my meds today and i alr miss how chaotic my brain is. It felt weird focusing on 1 thing which is so unlike me. And yes it felt too quiet, too weird. I dont want to be on meds I wish i could somehow naturally get this cured
@@rvsh777 I stop taking mine, I'm starting to realize that this is just how we're meant to be and nothing is worth getting rid of my personality which ive completely lost while on the meds. It really isn't worth it, I think it was a good break from the chaos but after about 2 years on them, Ive come to the conclusion that I feel a lot better with who I am, meds was not a bad thing, made me realize that it's just not for me, not because they didn't help but cause the pros outweight the cons for me personally. It didn't make me learn/concentrate any quicker which was the main reason for being on them, and for that, i decided to finally get off them, i have an appointment with my Dr in a few weeks and will be asking if there are meds that don't compromise my personality.
Thank you for this video! I plan to make changes to my med schedule thanks to it. I'd also love to get the genetic test so I stop guessing and crossing fingers for meds to work, haha;;;
I laughed when you said placebo XD I started a nonstimulant a week ago, and the first day I took it I was on an energy high and just felt good. I do have swings in energy normally, but the good days are rare. I spent the day mentally humming "placebo", but I was willing to ride that good day regardless! I do feel the meds though. My stomach isn't always happy about 'em, like a "wtf is this" reaction almost like nausea but not quite. I have also had a massive decrease in food cravings (food=dopamine is a bad habit for me), but that could just be from my stomach pondering the meds.
Just checking in, kinda. I've been on the nonstimulant (Strattera) for 2 months now, and even though the dose increased after the first two weeks (40mg) I feel like I'm back to how I was before I started. I dunno if increasing the dose will help, but I'm thinking nonstimulants might not work well for me. I'm curious about Vyvanse, gonna bring that up next time I check in with my doctor. Also appreciate your video style. I tried watching an info video on Vyvanse, and less than two minutes in I had to leave. It was nothing but a stream of techincal words and no "dumbing down" to help with comprehension or keep the listener's focus. Also had really annoying sound effects, like snapping fingers. It's a little thing, but even that slight jarring can knock me out of focus mode. This video was so much easier to watch and actually understand!
Guanfacine and clonidine are Alpha-2 agonists. Alpha-2 activation decreases the activity of norepinephrine throughout the body. The decreased NE affect results in more dilated arteries in the prefrontal cortex (less adrenergic constriction of vessels and decreased blood pressure too). The more dilated vessels mean more blood to this region and better functioning of the prefrontal cortex.
@@kayleemartineau9113 Yes. Norepinephrine is excitatory in the brain so by inhibiting it, you are going to be drowsy. The benefits of these drugs come from improved executive function that must be balanced with the decrease in energy. There's a reason why these drugs are considered 2nd choice options for ADD.
Was on adderal and am now trying a non stimulant called Qelbree. The non stimulant is giving me more (what I would consider negative) negative symptoms; such as insomnia and a much higher libido.
We’ve tried four different meds for my son, and all of them make him tired and make him feel like he can’t enjoy anything. Vyvanse is $300, even with insurance, so I can’t afford that one. I’m getting so frustrated with the medication battle!
He started with the lowest possible doses. The doctor is surprised he even notices a difference with doses this small, but apparently he’s really sensitive. No, the discount card does not help. It takes 10% off, that’s it. I double checked with the doctor, checked with insurance, and tried multiple angles. There’s no way for me to get Vyvanse for under $250/month.
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.
Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!
Yes, dr.sporessss. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.
I swear I had every side effect known to ma whole taking strattera bc my doctors didn't want to prescribe stimulants. I have a new appt today after 2 years of a basically traumatic state MH care experience and I hope I can be more vocal about my needs and what I'm feeling
On my second trial of a non-stimulant because I can’t get ahold of my neuropsych test so my new doc can prescribe stimulants. So far, no luck 🥲 no improvement on the first med, and was exhausted. Second med is making me incredibly nauseous. Of course I had to get the disorder that requires a controlled substance to treat 🙄
thank you so much. i have had a lot of problems as i get a downer after i eat my first meal at noon(do to fasting Life still pill taken around 8 am) but this really explains why. thank you for the better knowledge
Alpha adrenergic is referring to certain receptors for adrenergic compounds (ie. Epinephrine and norepinephrine from the adrenal glands) and they are centrally acting because it's on the central nervous system.
Do you mind sharing the non stimulant med you are on?
Did you deal with brain fog or what was going on? Thank youuu
How is it now?
@@davisturk8975 good question
Would be very interested in knowing the name of this medication, please.
I'm on 60 mg rn and I don't tell a difference at all I dont know if it's cause it takes a while or not.
I’m on 80mg and my brain feels like I’m moving at 20mph
I love Strattera for executive function but it makes me stop pooping, and I mean STOP pooping even with laxatives.
Decades of pharmaceutical battles/doctors, and you managed to explain it to me better in just a few minutes. Thank you!
Thank you for saying this! That's a huge compliment. 🥰

I used to take it on work days and miss it on weekends - but the holiday can be as long or short as you want, the longer the better the tolerance reset tends to be. additionally, it only occured to me after I started vyvanse that, oh gawd will I get a tolerance, will I get "cold turkey" side effects?!!" before realising that I regularly stopped my meds and had no issue :')
idk if that's because ADHD brain uses ADHD meds differently to non ADHD brains, but... yeah, to end with the way my doctor put it, "your ADHD meds can be used 'on tap', like draught beer/cider":'D it was a way of putting it that really clicked for me hahah. having said that, I've seen plenty of people who take it daily and this is personal advise that my doctor said to me with regards to my own script!

She super casually dropped Pharmacogenetic Testing like it's common knowledge I am shook!! Also, great video!!!
Holy crap, you can get TESTED for medication?????
You blew my mind. I'm at the very start of getting a diagnosis, but wow.
Thank you for this video, it helped a lot!
I've never heard of it being an Australian
I know right!!! I did NOT KNOW this. This is an insanely helpful piece of information. I wanna get off Strattera and try something else but I don't wanna take another 3 precious months to build up the dosage slowly in my system if I go back to it! I'll DEFINITELY learn more about these tests and see if I can get one done.
Several sources says it has not been peer reviewed and that there's not enough studies to prove it's reliable at all. I tried to look for that and all I got to are scammy-looking websites.
Update: I'm diagnosed and medicated. Also very lucky because the first medication seems to do the thing well
dont use genesight testing. they charged my insurance $5000
My knowledge is not much but i've generalized the stimulant vs non-stimulant as:
If you need help doing anything at all, even the things you like -> stimulant
If you need help doing the things you don't like specially -> non-stimulant
Stimulant is for dopamine deficiency only
And non-stimulant seems to be more for dopamine deficiency+anxiety/stress disorder
I encourage you to be happy, seek help!
I’m so sorry to hear that. Hopefully your Mom can advocate for you. Though you’ve made your case very well already. 🙏🏽
Can you give us an update?
try talking to your parent(s) about it and see if they can switch doctors / find another way to get the medication for you
Hopefully you can switch doctors. Best of luck to you!
Hello I am just wondering what your symptoms were? Because I can't be sure if I have ADHD or not
It very much depends person to person!
Defo do some research into it!
Non-stimulant video please! I just got diagnosed and am taking strattera atm and I really wanna know more. I love how ur video keeps us entertained and not lose focus and sleepy also. It makes learning more fun💖
How is that going? I just got prescribed strattera but was hesitant since it’s a non stimulant
@@cassieramos7467can you give us an update? I hope you’re doing well
@@tayloralisonswift9544 I am thanks!
Love the new editing style. I'm a super visual person and I especially need visuals when learning about new complex topics. It's science after all!
Amen my docs r crap I have to tell them what to do n what I need lol
Sorry to hear. I have hope for you that it will get better. ❤️

Yay! That's why I did it that way!! 🥰
The video is so much ADHD friendly that i could watch it w/o pasuing
Nice explanation of the medications. Thank you. I would love more specific info on the non-stimulants too, please, but this isa great start for me.

The effect on the digestive system is exactly why I'm switching to a nonstimulant (Qelbree). I have stomach ulcers and realized recently that my flare ups correlated to when i took my adderall.

Has Qelbree worked for you?

I forgot about this until I got notified you hearted my comment on the video before this lol.
thank you!! this was super informative and I loved the graphics!! Thank you :)
Thank you! It was very informative. May I ask you to do a video for one phentermine?

Fantastic help
This was an amazing video on every level.
I had to restart the video. I literally zoned out within seconds of watching. I'm literally fed up of being like this. 😭😭
Super helpful and informative video.
I took non stimulant Atomoxentine and felt the effects literally within the 5 hour period. I think it just depends on peoples metabolism. I work out a lot, and have always been overly sensitive to drugs and would imagine this is no different. Guessing the working out part also would play a huge role in some way.
I’d appreciate your comment!!
Would love a video on non-stimulants!
Thank you for this video! I plan to make changes to my med schedule thanks to it. I'd also love to get the genetic test so I stop guessing and crossing fingers for meds to work, haha;;;
Excellent video and information!!!
Thank you for this info-packed video
Wow That was Fun !
Thanks very informative video presented in a very interesting way ! 👌👍
I can’t thank you enough for this video!
Doesn't this medication make you tired ?
@@kayleemartineau9113 Yes. Norepinephrine is excitatory in the brain so by inhibiting it, you are going to be drowsy. The benefits of these drugs come from improved executive function that must be balanced with the decrease in energy. There's a reason why these drugs are considered 2nd choice options for ADD.
Oh that's why Seroquel works even tho I can't take long term it does the same thing at low doses but doesn't affect blood pressure bad
Was on adderal and am now trying a non stimulant called Qelbree. The non stimulant is giving me more (what I would consider negative) negative symptoms; such as insomnia and a much higher libido.
meanwhile my ritalin is giving me low libido and I would kill for a higher one 🤣
Thanks for the video EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE
We’ve tried four different meds for my son, and all of them make him tired and make him feel like he can’t enjoy anything.
Vyvanse is $300, even with insurance, so I can’t afford that one. I’m getting so frustrated with the medication battle!
Maybe the dose they're prescribing him is too high
try doing a pre-workout drink and see how those work to help.
Ask your doctor for a Vyvance discount card…it brings the cost down to $30/month
He started with the lowest possible doses. The doctor is surprised he even notices a difference with doses this small, but apparently he’s really sensitive.
No, the discount card does not help. It takes 10% off, that’s it. I double checked with the doctor, checked with insurance, and tried multiple angles. There’s no way for me to get Vyvanse for under $250/month.
wow $300 with insurance.
Thank you for introducing me to pharmacogenomic testing this could be very helpful to me.
Hi!! I recently found your videos and am SO intrigued! I can finally stay focused bc of your editing
I JUST saw this comment. And YES. I've always wanted to make a video on how I make videos!
Great video! Thank you
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough.
Is he on instagram?
Yes he is. dr.sporessss
I had no idea that I shouldn’t take my adderall with food or citrus. I did so much research….
I’d appreciate your comment!!
I swear I had every side effect known to ma whole taking strattera bc my doctors didn't want to prescribe stimulants. I have a new appt today after 2 years of a basically traumatic state MH care experience and I hope I can be more vocal about my needs and what I'm feeling
You forgot to mention Modafinil as a non stimulant.
“Stay weird” love it
thank you so much. i have had a lot of problems as i get a downer after i eat my first meal at noon(do to fasting Life still pill taken around 8 am) but this really explains why. thank you for the better knowledge
Best explanation ever, thanks!
Alpha adrenergic is referring to certain receptors for adrenergic compounds (ie. Epinephrine and norepinephrine from the adrenal glands) and they are centrally acting because it's on the central nervous system.
Super informative!! Thank you! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
