God forgive me but I can't stop laughing or fully believe this is real. They should make it proper. Turn out the lights. The ground crew wheels out a brick wall and a street light. The pitcher assumes the position. The umps, now wearing Keystone Cop uniforms, violate the pitchers openly for all to see. If contraband is found then a Paddy wagon (converted injury cart) and more Keystone Cops haul the pitcher off. If no contraband is found and the player is a minority then they haul them off anyway and give them a public defender who suggests they plead guilty and accept a disproportionate suspension or they'll go to jail. If the player asks them to prosecute the Keystone Cops for violating them then they get beat. Then false reports are put about what a terrible sub human they are so no one cares what happens to the victims and protests. Ratings would soar lol.
This is pretty fucked. As a pitcher in college ball for a while, someone stopping my groove fucks with your pitching. It was always a strategy to ice a hot pitcher by doing something like this.
The main umpire checks are in between innings, off the field so they don’t delay pace of play. This one was a check by Joe Girardi because he was upset that his team is offensively challenged. The checks by coaches have always been allowed. No one did them because everyone used sticky stuff, so the other team would just check the other teams pitcher.
Yeah, they do it between innings, we know, but any kind of drama has the potential of delaying the warmup part of that limited time between innings when the opposing pitchers get to throw a handful of pitches off the mound before they face the next batter (in case they start to get cold). So these checks only have the potential of slowing down the game. It's just bad optics, especislly when mlb has been so ultrafocused (publically) on speeding up the pace of the game.

For everyone saying it’s not hard to let them check you, he’s in a rhythm in the middle of an inning. You’d be pissed too, especially if it was for a third time without the umps finding anything. Pitcher hate being fucked with on the mound. It destroys momentum when we’re on a roll like Max was.
The umps (during this game) handled it poorly, what they should’ve done was approach Max right when the inning was over or when he got yanked. That prevents him from losing his rhythm. Thb they had to check since the Phillies gun asked them to but I think they knew he was clean during the 3rd visit. This was attempt to get into Max’s head and it didn’t work. The Phillies GM also became the biggest joke in baseball afterwards for trying to fight an opposing player. smh, so embarrassing… Ps: Sorry for the paragraph

I agree with Close Call Sports & Clayton Kershaw about managers asking for pitcher checks mid-inning AFTER the 2 compulsory umpire checks. If the mid inning check comes up clean, there needs to be some sort of penalty for the offensive team. It could be an out awarded to the defense, take away a challenge, or Iike the NFL has with their challenge rule(where you can’t challenge if you have no timeouts left), you can’t make the request if you already lost your challenge earlier in the game, until the 7th when you can request under the crew chief review rule.
I get that this looks foolish, but I do think it's important for the league to crack down on foreign substance use. There are things that should have been handled differently, especially with starting these checks midseason, but something did need to be done.

The main umpire checks are in between innings, off the field so they don’t delay pace of play. This one was a check by Joe Girardi because he was upset that his team is offensively challenged. The checks by coaches have always been allowed. No one did them because everyone used sticky stuff, so the other team would just check the other teams pitcher.

Yeah, they do it between innings, we know, but any kind of drama has the potential of delaying the warmup part of that limited time between innings when the opposing pitchers get to throw a handful of pitches off the mound before they face the next batter (in case they start to get cold). So these checks only have the potential of slowing down the game. It's just bad optics, especislly when mlb has been so ultrafocused (publically) on speeding up the pace of the game.

Just being honest, these are my favorite games to attend as a fan. All the back and forth between players, coaches, and umps is on another level in this one.
For everyone saying it’s not hard to let them check you, he’s in a rhythm in the middle of an inning. You’d be pissed too, especially if it was for a third time without the umps finding anything. Pitcher hate being fucked with on the mound. It destroys momentum when we’re on a roll like Max was.

The umps (during this game) handled it poorly, what they should’ve done was approach Max right when the inning was over or when he got yanked. That prevents him from losing his rhythm. Thb they had to check since the Phillies gun asked them to but I think they knew he was clean during the 3rd visit. This was attempt to get into Max’s head and it didn’t work. The Phillies GM also became the biggest joke in baseball afterwards for trying to fight an opposing player. smh, so embarrassing…

The "foreign substance" rule has been a rule FOREVER but, MLB "allows" a problem to become a CRISIS THEN, they go overboard to correct it.
The "unwritten rules of baseball." Everything is legal until the media starts pointing out that the game has become completely compromised in some way.

I agree with Close Call Sports & Clayton Kershaw about managers asking for pitcher checks mid-inning AFTER the 2 compulsory umpire checks. If the mid inning check comes up clean, there needs to be some sort of penalty for the offensive team. It could be an out awarded to the defense, take away a challenge, or Iike the NFL has with their challenge rule(where you can’t challenge if you have no timeouts left), you can’t make the request if you already lost your challenge earlier in the game, until the 7th when you can request under the crew chief review rule.

Give a coach one free challenge. The 2nd challenge comes with a penalty. Like in football, if you challenge a play and you're wrong you lose a time out. If the coach challenges a pitcher a second time and he's wrong,....one out! It would cut down on frivolous challenges.
