      The Mets shouldn’t have known spin rates during the game tho no??? There dugout is getting media info??? How is this not a big story?

    • @lukekeohane6891
      @lukekeohane6891 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@xXxFroztyy for me, we should have two objectives: (1) fairness; and (2) keeping the sport about the on-field performance of the players.
      (1) fairness
      both teams follow the same rules for both: (A) collecting data and (B) communicating this information. in particular, the home team can't benefit from some custom setup such as the PC rig the Astros were using.
      (2) keeping baseball a spectator sport, not a real-time analytics contest.
      I'm totally fine with team staff watching the video feeds from their own booths, having their proprietary resources in front of them, and communicating to the dugouts things like (a) pitch patterns, (b) advice on whether or not to challenge a play, (c) check the pitcher, we saw something suspicious on the TV closeup, (d) the other team has so-and-so getting loose in the bullpen, (e) the ump has been generous with the strike zone outside, (f) check the status of a player who went in for a medical evaluation.
      spin rate i'm on the fence about but it can be calculated pretty easily from the TV broadcast and are more important things to focus on policing.
      therefore, i propose some rules:
      - (r1) nobody in the dugout should be wearing an earpiece or texting on a cell phone. there's no reason for it. all of the examples i listed above (under #2) can and should be communicated over the dugout phone directly to the manager.
      all of that info should be "pulled" by the manager, not "pushed" to him. thus:
      - (r2) the manager should be able to call the team booth at his discretion. could be just to check in between innings or after a close play to ask a question.
      - (r3) the booth should NOT be able to call the dugout.
      - (r3b) obvious exception is for personal emergencies, or for rare cases such as a player getting traded mid-game. MLB officials should be informed and have someone present in the booth for that call.

      They do it in alot of sports and sometimes it works. I don't know how many NFL games I have watched that come down to the last field goal (easy kick) and the other team stands no chance, but then they take time out and ice them and he misses the kick and they win the game. You do whatever you gotta do to try and win at all cost.

  • @PlaySA
    @PlaySA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Pitching Ninja pointed this out as well: the Padres relievers ALSO had higher spin rates across the board. PLUS, Musgrove's spin rates actually increased AFTER the check, he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder I think. This is the postseason, baby. You give it everything you got.

      It was funny.. but to be honest…What do we expect? - its not like he did that all year (Buck is certainly a good manager) - he gets word the spin rate is up (on top of that, for some ODD REASON, he wanted to check the ball in the first inning with just one out) - and then mugrove in his first playoff game is having the best game of his career due to the position he was in to save the team - away in NY - with a ear that was glowing LOL -- was he cheating? no lol (well as far as we can tell, cant make accusations unless we know) - but they must have heard the possibility of something maybe coming that way, hence checking the ball in the first, and down 4-0 in 6th or whatever (u check) - it was the END, all or nothing - I dont blame the mets (Buck) for just giving it a shot
      But that met team can be special if they somehow someway find a way to resign Degrom (and possibly Diaz even if its one year good money) and have a full season with Degrom - Max - and whoever else is behind them
      with now them having Lindor (who played great), Alonso (who not only became 2nd fastest to get 159 homers this year but hit 40+ again and actually bated in the .270s), Mcniel (batting champion, almost for second tom), Marte…and even now that power house 20 year old catcher Alvarez
      Met fans (well baseball fans are ridiculous in general) are annoying and DELUSIONAL - like Degrom has 8 days….8 days (between those 2 starts) and some (not all) throw him out the window vs 8 effing years lol - two games one being that last game of season against braves were he held them to 3 with 4 hits no walks but all the hits were BOMBS lol (but thats the only way the braves score) and the game before that he gives up 4 runs for the first time in sooo many consecutive starting games that its now the MLB record which he broke from someone who had it in 1918
      Before the Oakland game he had the 4th best Career ERA of all time (now 5th, him and Kershawk neck and neck…. who is in 1-2-3? some dudes no one has heard from like the days of black and white film lol) -- this year he had 1.53 era through his first 8 starts - two games where in 5 innings he had 13 and 12 ks - he throws 102 like butter …. THE MAN IS STILL THE BEST ON THE PLANET - but all his stupid solo shots he has given up have been with pitches that he is now trying to get in his repertoire to relieve any possibility of hurting his arm - so he’s not just painting beautiful 94 mph sliders - well i would cut out the other pitches and go back to throwing them just 10% of the time
      But if they dont resign him - you cant win without AT LEAST two aces et alone of one of them being the best on the rubber I have seen since the height of Pedro (even better tbh) - i mean this man had a 1.70 era and was 10-9 - I dont blame him for opting out - and last year with that HISTORIC first half on his way to another easy cy, and then bloop after last gane before all star break he is out for 13 months (but EVEN THEN… when he had 0.55 era with 82 pitches in (second to last before all star) he STILL had only a few wins but no losses…..if their wealthy ower dont resign him - then say hello to waiting another 25 years to even get 100 wins , let alone a playoff run - time and time again - Good pitching beats goio bstting

    Ripken had the perfect information this morning. 2900 spin rate to the plate is 19 revolutions to the baseball to the plate, 2700 is 18 rotations of the baseball to the plate. It’s a negligible difference

    "information in the dugout..." my foot. Showalter was playing trying to mess with the pitchers mind. Desperation move that backfired.

    His spin rates were above his average but under his max.

    Broadcast was awful, you could tell they were pro-Mets. Afterward basically said "So Musgrove using a special helper." Also brought up his spin rate and velocity.

      The 1 walk Musgrove had was also bullshit. He struck him out twice that at bat.

      Completely delusional. Every comment was about how great the padres were.

      @@liberty7653 The lead announcer asked the other two in the booth, "Do you guys see anything different?" the inning after Musgrove got checked by the umpire.

    As someone with similar exceptional ears, it's a sensitive subject. I'm sure my man been teased his entire life about them and that fired him up more.

    I was expecting the Ump to pull out a quarter when he was checking Joe's ears.😆
