They were only winning by 2 runs in the 2nd inning. If you actually know anything about baseball, the game can flip around very very easily. And why wouldn't you complain if your biggest rival was cheating on your own field?
In the Pine Tar game, one thing the announcers got wrong: The rule had nothing to do with pine tar hitting the trademark. The rule was (and is) that you can have pine tar a maximum of 18 inches from the knob of the bat. When they laid the bat across home plate, they were doing so because home plate is 17 inches across, so they could see if the pine tar exceeded that by an inch. The rule still exists--you cannot use a bat with more than 18 inches of pine tar. Now, though, the penalty is only that the batter has to get a new bat. He is not out for using an illegal bat.
Even then the batter was not out. The umpires screwed up the ruling which resulted in the game being protested, overturned, and replayed from immediately after the home run was hit.
ProTip: Give your catcher the pine tar. When he tosses back a pitch, he'll have a lil' bit of the ol' grip grease prepped for you! That'll fool the umps!
Baseball bat used by George Brett in the Pine Tar Incident on July 24, 1983 On July 24, 1983, with the Royals playing against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, in the top of the ninth inning with two out, Brett hit a go-ahead two-run homer off of Goose Gossage to put the Royals up 5-4. After the home run, Yankees manager Billy Martin cited to the umpires a rule, stating that any foreign substance on a bat could extend no further than 18 inches from the knob. The umpires measured the amount of pine tar, a legal substance used by hitters to improve their grip, on Brett's bat; the pine tar extended about 24 inches. The home plate umpire, Tim McClelland, signaled Brett out, ending the game as a Yankees win. Brett charged out of the dugout directly toward McClelland, and had to be physically restrained by two umpires and Royals manager Dick Howser. The Royals protested the game, and American League president Lee MacPhail upheld the protest, reasoning that the bat should have been excluded from future use, but the home run should not have been nullified. Amid much controversy, the game was resumed on August 18, 1983, from the point of Brett's home run, and ended with a Royals win.
I remember watching the George brett pine tar incident live when i was a kid. To this day I never saw a man loose his mind like brett did that day. Good stuff.

Any sport with a ball, golf, pool, bowling, baseball, spin is what makes a ball move. Anything that helps you grip a ball better is going to help you create spin/ more spin. @@SarahDigsHockey Thanks, Karen. And it was replayed, because all of the game from Brett's homer onward was cancelled, deleted; and then replayed. Happy?

Meaning, both sides aren't able to freely use it. I'm all for allowing it as long as both sides can freely use it -- just like the rosin bag. But hiding its use, getting caught, and then trying to justify it simply doesn't make sense. If it's not allowed, it's not allowed. TyliteTony I know pine tar doesn't give movement. Spin is what gives movement, the only thing. Pine tar helps create spin. There is no denying that.
Any sport with a ball, golf, pool, bowling, baseball, spin is what makes a ball move. Anything that helps you grip a ball better is going to help you create spin/ more spin. Why do you think pitchers are allowed to go to their mouths in the cold? That little bit of moisture helps them get a better grip on the ball. I.e. more control, more spin.
5:25 "Will Smith has been ejected"
God damn Will Smith, he turned white and started playing baseball. Go back to your movies and such.

6:09 "but c'mon I shaved my arm for this!"
Ahhhh! George Brett's "Pine Tar Incident" is such a classic. I love seeing it in these kinds of videos :)
We need a mic’d up foreign substances compilation.
Peralta, banging the ball against his cup/crotch @ 8:19.
😂
Wtf, dude?
There are better ways to alleviate boredom 🤣
pineda had given up 2 runs and already thrown 40 pitches through 1 2/3. the pine tar obviously wasn’t helping much.
Travis Kong dirty
you shouldn't need to use a foreign substance if your good enough to play
@James Tisdale Why are you even here dumbass
i mean you shouldnt cheat but if you are dont make it so obvious

You know what makes Me Laugh, the commentators, when it's their team cheating, they rationalise, they state "oh its a cold night, he needed that pine tar for better grip, he wasn't cheating", but when its an opposing Team, oh the commentators are going off the wall, they state, and ive seen this first hand in my life, "he has a foreign substance in his glove", or "he has something in his back pocket, he's cheating", i just laugh at that shit all the time.
This was ahead of its time 🤧
The umps who wait until they can get the manager of the team out to check are the nice ones.
I love when they get mad at the umpires for kicking them out. They’re mad they got caught
I would've love to hear what George Brett said, probably was some gibberish, he went ballistic on the umps.
First dude could not have been more obvious 😭😭
Never tell that pitcher a secret - THAT was the best hiding spot you could think of?!🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was at the Sox/Yanks game when he got tossed. Checked his hat, glove, then touched his neck and......ADIOS! Pine Tar Pineda 🤣🤣🤣
I love how they’re like haha I’ll just hide the bat. That whole interaction was amazing
Perfect timing for this video right now lmao
How about everyone gets pine tar and steroids.
tiggfigg also LOL
tiggfigg Lol start their own league call it "mlb extreme"
Ray Scott - make it like mlb slugfest where the batters can charge the after getting bean I'll be fucking down to watch
Ray Scott i like that lol
also they can use metal bats that would be insane LMAO
Clicks on 27 consecutive "Roid Rage" videos...
*every one of them is just 2 minutes of George Brett's "pine tar tantrum."*
2:50 bruh, Look at the score at the bottom left. I’d be bored as hell in this game. I won’t even care if they have a foreign substance.
Why don't they hide it better? You don't need a mound of it inside of your glove, on your neck or wherever. Just a tiny little bit. Don't use it but maybe once in an inning. If you're messing with your pocket, adjusting your glove constantly, touching your face or neck constantly, etc...yes, you're going to be called out.
I love the batman theme during the discussion about the bat.
I love how the Yankees broadcasters where defending him for cheating.
"Those are the rules" Yeah what a defense
@@GinkgoPete and then goes on to explain that he should be allowed anyway
@@GinkgoPete listening is hard
I love the walk of shame
George Brett was exonerated, got the homer and the Royals won the replayed game.
The game wasn't replayed. It was simply restarted from that point.
@@SarahDigsHockey Thanks, Karen. And it was replayed, because all of the game from Brett's homer onward was cancelled, deleted; and then replayed. Happy?
should make a compilation of every Houston home game from 2017-2019
Still won game 6 and 7 on the Road in the World Series. 🤷♂️

You are a foreign substance
First guy didn't get away with it. I suppose you got to be a "Wesley Snipes" black to go unnoticed.
Or vantablack
I've always found it interesting how the ump pointed at Brett with the bat - something that usually isn't taken kindly in baseball.
The way how Brett got up & ran out @ 13:21 mark.
Pineda really thought he was black enough to hide that pine tar.
This video is what Red Sox and Astros watch to get ready for the World Series.
8:20 dude beating his cup over and over
hahahahah thank you
funny shit is that mike fiers was “regripping” pine tar on his glove and arm and wasn’t caught acople days ago LOL
8:22 wtf is the dude on the right doing 😂😂😂
Everyone constantly argues pine tar not being an issue since it only increases grip, but that's not the point. The problem with pine tar, in my opinion, is that... It's against the rules. Meaning, both sides aren't able to freely use it. I'm all for allowing it as long as both sides can freely use it -- just like the rosin bag. But hiding its use, getting caught, and then trying to justify it simply doesn't make sense. If it's not allowed, it's not allowed. During the game, while you're using it against the rules is not the time to advocate for it. Get the rule changed and use it legally in the game.
"I'm not saying every pitcher, I'm not saying every time"
Some people think cheating is okay is how that translates
Remember it like it was yesterday, great to see it again just to see how f~ing mad George Brett got. 😤🤣
Do the coaches usually know when the players are doing this or no?
PinkCottonCandy half of the time no, that's why they get so disappointed
iEvenZZ Ohh okay, I see, thanks.
How about almost always, yes. Billy Martin was known for teaching his players to cheat.
+erik gonzales Can you demonstrate or explain your reasoning for how you know, that they know?
@@chillinchum
I wouldnt think it'd be all or even most of them, its on a person to person basis so maybe half, maybe more or maybe less. Nobody will ever really know.
I've never seen a human become so unglued as much as George Brett after he was called out.
0:21 that fan on the right side, pointing the neck that he knew where LOL
One of the umpires that ejected Peralta also ejected Joe Niekro in the infamous emery board incident.
He almost got away with it on the 1rst clip😂
It's so funny how he was using pine tar and there down by 2
5:12 you know your fucked when all the umpires are looking at you
If everyone is going to use Pine Tar anyway just make it legal and give it to every pitcher. Especially when it is humid, a slippery ball makes less interesting games if nobody can pitch or hit
The George Brett Pine Tar Incident bat was seen at the American League Office and the MLB Office and the distance from the trademark to the pine tar was 6 inches, it's not allowed to be closer than 8 inches
Look how long it took for the MLB to actually do something about this. They’ve obviously known about it, and since they got exposed they’re trying to save face😓😓
By now the big players have moved on to clear colourless substances
Crazy seeing Yelich with a 500 OPS. lol
When the whole infield tries to block the cameras, you know they know lmao
The one where the W Nationals just blatantly called out their ex pitcher for something they probably taught him was such a cold and calculated move, the Rays literally made the umps check their own pitchers glove as to say "He learned that over there" and before that the tip of the cap by the pitcher saying "smart call" is just mafia type shit.
2:39 Looks like Zach Hample
lol it does

6:32 glove hand shaking hella bad cuz he knows he's caught.
George Brett going full nuclear over the bat. Awesome.
The fact that the Royals ran away with the bat is HILLARIOUS
Guilty as charged your honor!
3:24 forgot the cheating part that game was a 12 inning with no scores
