I also recently completed this game. I actually really liked it (aside from a wonky camera in tight spaces), but I can easily see this game being very divisive. It's a big love-it-or-hate-it game, not much space in between. I really wish there was a demo so people can try it out and see for themselves if it's something they'd enjoy. The controls take a while getting used to, but once you do slithering up poles and wrapping yourself over precarious pits is super fun. I'd say the controls are as adequate as you could possibly make them for a complex task as controlling a snake, but I can see them frustrating other people as they are really tough to wrap your head around at first and require constant attention. Overall it's a fine game and brilliant concept, but I'd love to see a sequel that fixes some of the issues and expands on it. A concept as cool as this deserves a chance to shine.
I really enjoy Snake Pass. I don't have near as much trouble with the controls as you did. They make sense to me and work as expected. I can see where it would cause issue for some though.
I really enjoyed the game as well. I 100% the game. It took me a bit to understand how to properly move around and not die all the time. Gotta take your time and plan your moves. Wrap around bamboo poles a lot to avoid your body pulling you off. overall though, was a great game with some questionable frame rates.
Poor Noodle... I really, REALLY hope Sumo Digital go back and make a sequel to this that's more expansive. The concept and core gameplay is sound, it just needs a bit more in the way of meat to the game's content (as you mentioned, collectibles that DO something) and some control tweaks to make the snaking a bit more effortless (oh, like, say, an auto-slither powerup that's slower than slithering side to side manually, but it still faster than going forward? ) A great start to hopefully a wonderful little franchise, imo :)
William Mcmeekin Thats Exactly what the reward is ! For collecting all GateKeeper Coins you get an 8-Bit noodle Skin (the snake) and for all of those blue orbs you get an 8 Bit-Doodle Skin (the Bird) ;)
I didnt say that i thought the game did a good job of rewarding the player, i simply wanted to state that it would have been nice of arlo to mention that there is a reward even though i agree that its not a very rewarding one ^^
It seems like it would go right in hand with the fact that snakes shed their skin. You're using one skin, select another, BOOM, snake climbs out of his old skin and has the new one on! That would be such a nice touch!
I'm absolutely enthralled with Snake Pass. It's quite hard to play but I'm having fun with it and I just found it so charming and nostalgic from its style and soundtrack. It's like a game from the 90s; You just don't get games like these anymore. Really hope we see more of them in the future.
That's how Rayman Legend does it. The main collectibles in the game have a tether system that will bring them back to their original position if the player dies before reaching a safe platform.
Its worth mentioning that was for single player because of infinite lives multiplayer. It is even more worth mentioning it was for the coins... which only gave lums, which weren't major. The Teensies did autosave if they were for completing a room, but otherwise would need to be obtained if you die after getting them. (If I remember this all right)
Completely understand all of your complaints, but I only agree with the camera (which is truly terrible). I absolutely loved the game otherwise! I actually really loved the controls and never seemed to have an issue with the checkpoint system - if anybody out there is interested I definitely recommend it! Also, (SPOILERS FOR 100%ing THE GAME).. Getting all of the coins and orbs in the game unlocks a new 8-bit skin for Noodle and Doodle, though it's just cosmetic it's really fun to use.
The reward is doing it. Like figuring out a puzzle in a traditional platformer. I feel like people have become corrupted by mobile games. "Oh, everytime I complete a level I get all these trinkets and bobbles (That don't actually do much)" Are the levels fun? "Uhhh, I finish it and I get gems to unlock new skins in the store"
wow it took you two months to write that, also no, is not "because of mobile games" sometimes having rewards in between do help to keep more motivation than "you did the thing again" because most completionist bonuses aren't "the reward is the puzzle itself" but rather "the reward is doing the puzzle again but now do it this way" and most importantly they're a checkbox
I LOVE it when reviewers do a "How would I make it better?" segment (or even just say how they would make it better throughout the review), so yes, I want you to keep it.
!!! You reviewed it with a negative score how dare you it's the best game ever snakes are so fucking cute !!! Nice review, and I fully agree with you. I might have enjoyed the game much more, but your criticism is more than valid (and it aligns very well with my own). I didn't have as much of a problem with the checkpoints, but I don't think I'll bother with the collectibles either unless I come back to the game later after beating it. As it is, I think it's a wonderful idea executed with a few too large-scale flaws. I really hope the game does well enough so they can return to this and do more akin to it. Snakes as platforming heroes are just so novel and cute that I just couldn't help but buy this one. And I do want more despite my semi-lukewarm opinion of the game.
The controls aren't for everyone, that's for sure. But the snake controls did feel pretty forgiving, and even allowed you to take unintended paths. If there was a collectible behind a tricky path, chances are there was a simpler way to reach it using a high ledge or a hole in the wall. The levels can feel incredibly short if you only go for the mandatory keys, it's almost a requirement to collect everything to extend the playtime. However, there *is* a completionist bonus for collecting all the blue orbs and coins, so it's not pointless to collect them. The final world does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. I really would have wished there was a set of final bonus levels unlocked using the coins that really challenged the player and pushed the limits of the snake physics
At first I wasn't sure what to think about the puppet on screen, but it was well done and ended up enjoying it. Well done on adding a new dimension to the deluge of reviews out there! You have earned a new subscriber :)
I would be interested in the 'what you'd change' section on games you like too. I'm specifically thinking breath of the wild right now, but at the same time, most of that game's issues are pretty obvious.
Love the "How Would I Make It Better" idea. Anyone can say if something's bad, some can tell people why, but extraordinarily few even consider how to take something bad and make it good.
I like the idea behind "How Would I Make it Better". It encourages discussion and actually trie to give solutions rather than just criticizing problems. And as someone who is studying in game design, this is something I could learn from.
I'm gonna wait for my Switch i usally wait a year or two after a new console comes out to make sure all the updates to ensure i wont need to get it repaired i wonder if Arlo will review Yooka-Laylee
The one thing I can tell whenever I click on an Arlo video is that it will be honest. It doesn't seem like you're just making excuses for things when you support something or that you actively hate something for the sake of hating it. It's really refreshing to have a clear mind on popular subjects nowadays, thanks.
Ok. This is something. I had to stop the video. I happened to get Snake Pass as well on the switch. But I had to put the game down after 'beating' the first level. I was getting dizzy. the next day I picked up the game and it wasn't much time until I was getting dizzy again. I think I understand why I'm getting dizzy, but sadly that actually means I have to return the game. If you play Portal with Director's Comments on, the narrator comments on betatesters getting dizzy after completing difficult puzzles in a row - so what they did was place smaller puzzles to let the betatester's brain "recover" from the effort without breaking immersion. You couple this piece of knowledge with the controls and the camera of Snake Pass (I have to play BotW with both camera axises inverted)...
Dude i just wanna say I love your content and I am baffled at why you are not consistently on trending. It is obvious that you put so much work into your channel, what with the regular uploads of thoughtful and high-quality videos, unique style of the puppet, and the family-friendly yet not babied content. Honestly, it is so obvious that you care so much about what you do, and i cannot wait to see you continue to upload more our your stuff, or collab with Lockstin, or reach out to other channels.
Wow, I didn't realize how many subscribers you had, I've been here since you were at 4,000 and seeing your channel grow so much so fast is amazing. You're the only TH-camr that I've so strongly wanted to see succeed, and seeing that happen makes me so happy!
I think you're being too hard on the controls. I think it's a case of them just being different from other games (not worse). Playing snake pass puts everyone back to that 'never played a game before' state with their muscle memory - like somebody who's never used a controller before. After getting all of the collectibles, the game had become 2nd nature just like any other game.
I really like that this game started off super daunting; it was terrifying to look at bamboo in spots that would lead to death if I fell. The game forcing you to get good at the controls felt super satisfying to me, the way that I found myself going back to complete tasks that were once impossible was really nice in my opinion
The game looked cute enough, but it really seemed like everyone just jumped on its bandwagon as an "eff you" to the Yooka-Laylee devs after they pissed so many people off.
Lakitu1134 Speaking for myself (and probably many other people), I was excited for this game long before Yooka Laylee was reviewed, and I couldn't care less about what the devs were doing.
This game was a dream come true for me. For 15+ years I wanted a game where all you do is play around with snake physics and this game delivered that in spades. It's flawed though, a snake shouldn't really be falling off things just from sitting in a coil and more meaningful collectables would be nice but I still had a blast with it.
Thank you for your thorough review. With the exception of relative turning - and why the heck DOES he decide to turn a different direction simply because his body is pointed a different direction now than it was a second ago?! - you covered every one of my complaints with this game. There really ought to at least be demos for all games if they aren't going to allow refunds. I would've never purchased this game if I'd been able to personally experience its flaws before buying it.
I like the way you made it better. My suggestion would be: the snake swallows orbs like eggs and spits them out on solid ground, how you see that you've collected them. Then that little bird following you picks them up and then you really have it. I'd also make the coins harder to reach, but also instantly saved. The places they appear in should be intended to leap off in order to get it.
First time I think I disagreed with you about a game. I found the game an absolute joy to play, it has been years since I had to actually "learn" how to play a game. After you get used to "thinking like a snake" it just feels good to traverse each level, and the collectibles are just a way to convince you to tackle the trickier segments All in all, despite its flaws Snake Pass is truly something new, something that hasn't been done before and accomplished quite well. It is fun, challenging and flexes your gaming muscles in new and exciting ways. If I had to grade it, it would never be bellow a 7/10, even with all its camera quirks and sometimes frustrating checkpoints
I totally agree with you Arlo, about the optional collectibles. There HAS to be a substantial reward(s) for collecting optional collectibles, for me to be bothered to care about collecting the optional collectibles.
I just got this game for my Switch! Its hard, but its so much fun! The controls and level design are so great! It looks so good and David Wise's relaxing music score is second to none! Definitely a one of a kind game, and it's nice to see a game built around a simple idea--a platformer with no jumping where youre taught to think like a snake--can be executed so sublimely!
As a puppereer, we generally use arm rods. They are two rods that you stick to the bottom of the arms and control with one hand. Its almost like using chopsticks the way you are controlling it. I don't know why your asking puppet questions though in an Arlo video. He's just using his hands...
EnderNite Arlo clearly has two fluffy blue hands and one fluffy blue head with big eyes...I don't see all the confusion here sticks and 3 arms and nonsense...y'all are just crazy!😂
I think the biggest problem was that you didn't understand how weight distribution works for a snake, or why checkpoints are essential. The physics aren't wonky. The checkpoints aren't useless. Calm down.
Hey, that's Snake Mistakes by Dan Deacon! I love that song! Dang Arlo, you're quickly becoming my favorite youtuber. Not only do you give accurate and enjoyable reviews, you've also got great taste in music! I'll accept my million points now ;D
Honestly the controls aren't bad when you get used to them. I could tell Arlo was trying to rush a bit here and there, that might have also been a problem.
The camera, head lift, and relative turning are problematic. As Arlo says the camera needs to be moved at the same time your fingers are occupied. Head lifting should be analogue rather than digital but that's not possible with the Switch's controls so another method should've been implemented. Relative turning is a huge hassle. Why does Noodle turn left when I hold right just because the camera has turned beyond some invisible line? Even if he started off by turning right when I was holding right the second his body's position crosses that invisible line he suddenly starts turning left. While certain games like Octodad purposely have difficult controls I think Snake Pass's controls were just poorly implemented. The physics puzzles of the game, not the controls, should be my obstacle in this game.
Controls, controls, controls... Just because it is way different than you're used to, doesn't mean it's bad. I love the controls, very satisfying! And about the "save collectables when you hit the ground"-thing is a lame idea. Collectables aren't for kids in this game, man...
Hey Arlo! I love your channel; keep up the great work! I just beat Snake Pass last night. I found the game to be a lot of fun, but usually would limit myself to one or two levels per night as to not get super frustrated. Great review!
The thing with gripping is that the more contact points, the stronger the grip. Remember you said Noodle is made up of multiple segments? The more segment in contact with a surface, the stronger the grip.
Funny, your "How Would I Make It Better" comment was the exact same solution that came to my mind for that issue! ... Jingle could, uh, use some work, though...
I honestly agree with a lot of what you said, Arlo. You've covered the most of my complaints, besides the difficulty, and that's mostly because I haven't really gotten that far in the game yet. Still, great review. I expect to see more "How Would I Make It Better?". It's a great idea for these reviews.
What you describe with the mini checkpoints is very similar to what Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends gold coin collectables did, since they were often in hazardous areas overlooking cliffs or surrounded by spikes, the game would let you pick up the collectable but each coin would have an area of 'not-collected' which, until you pass beyond this radius, the game would just have the coin float next to you but wouldn't chime it in as you collecting it until you've reached outside this area, which was manually made depending on each and every coin, so it would mean that you'd collect the coin as soon as you were reasonably free of the danger that surrounded the coin such as making it back to solid ground or moving a distance away from the spikes. It was a really great concept and stopped you from feeling like you cheated for a coin or that a confiscation of a coin was unfair, as you may have killed yourself on the way back out, and touching the coin initially was only half the battle. And its just one of the many reasons Rayman Legends has earned its way as my second favourite game of all time and my 1st favourite platformer.
Arlo, I know you somewhat addressed this, but the whole idea behind collectibles is that they should be fun to obtain. Collectibles, regardless of the reward they give you, really only have the purpose of moving the player through an engine they're enjoying. If you're already having fun bouncing around and navigating the world and playing with the mechanics, collectibles can be placed to guide players towards pre-designed ways to utilize those mechanics; like a red coin on a platform that needs to be triple-jumped to, or notes in the air which you need to fly to obtain. Ideally, the player is already having fun playing around with these mechanics, and this system can obviously used to keep mechanics fresh and feeling rewarding throughout the game. It seems like with Snake Pass, you just didn't have much fun navigating the engine to begin with, thus the collectibles served absolutely no reward, regardless of whatever in-game reward they could have given you. I haven't played Snake Pass yet, but I've watched quite a bit of it, and most of the people I've watched have shared your opinions. I love that the developers of this are trying something so new and creative, but it seems like the result suffered from indie game syndrome, where if the developers had had the ability to only focus on their neat idea it may have been more developed, instead of having to develop an entire game with that same limited team. Either way, definitely excited to see what they cook up next!
This game was fun for the first world and half of the second, then it got repetitive and boring. I found myself often either blankly staring at Noodle as I moved him or yelling at my tv because something had killed me for the twentieth time. Honestly, I like the concept and I really wish this game had been better than it was, but they decided to make a game solely based off these snake physics, which isn't enough for a game. I agree that the checkpoint system you suggested would help it, but that still isn't enough. I think they could have added like a sandbox mode or something for collecting everything, but all you get it a skin that doesn't even look good. The levels aren't really fun and some parts are unfair, I can't think of a way they could even fix it. This game was a let down, I thought it would be great but it just wasn't. I would personally give it a 5/10. Once again, there were a lot of problems, 100% isn't worth the time or effort, and the mechanic they built the game off of just wasn't enough for its own game.
I like the idea of collectibles not being registered until you reach solid ground. Maybe have them float behind the character and trail along, and then join up into their model when they reach a safe space. I feel like that'd give a good visual indication to the player
I got a simpler compromise for the checkpoint system. Make it so that dieing only makes you lose the very latest "collectible" you got. You can take risks on tricky collectibles, because the only progress you risk losing is "one" collectible. You can't exploit dieing for collectibles because you'll always lose the collectible you died to collect (but if you nab it as you are dieing, you only lose that thing you were trying to immediately get, so no backtracking required on respawn). Furthermore, it actually makes getting collectibles add SOME tiny bit of value to the game. Sure you don't unlock anything, but say you just got a keystone and there's no checkpoint in sight. You're gonna be head over shoulders looking for an easy collectible to serve as a "safety net" so that you won't lose that keystone if you happen to die before getting the next checkpoint.
I like the constructive criticism in this review. I was honestly surprised to find out you didn't particularly care for this title. All the reviews I've seen give it praises so I was expecting a stellar one from you. In fact I almost skipped over yourreview because of that assumption. I'm not complaining or anything, just surprised, thanks.
I like Snake Pass, I can agree with the checkpoint problem and idea of soft check-pointing items like the coins was the same idea I was thinking of whenever I heard someone complaining. I don't really have an eye for graphic quality or resolution so I thought the game looked pretty good. The biggest thing I liked about the game was that on the switch I could just put the system in rest mode in the middle of a level and come back to it later, and I felt like playing this game very casually really made it more enjoyable to me. I'd give it a 5/7 plenty fun, but it has its flaws, nice to play and is enjoyable but not something that I can't put down. I'd recommend it.
As for the collectable checkpoint idea, I believe Rayman Legends used a similar system. When you pick up a gold coin, you would have to avoid getting hit by anything for a couple seconds, otherwise it would spring back to its original position.
I think the game has a huge learning curve to using the wrapping mechanic. I enjoyed the casual and relaxed setting. I didn't find myself using the hummingbird or the grip. It was relaxing and felt great after mastering the gameplay. I considered this a nice puzzle platforming game. Wish there was more levels and some reward to collecting everything.
I've been playing through Snake Pass myself. I can definitely understand the gripes you've had with the game (I had the same exact problem at 2:51 in that same section jfc), but I've still been enjoying it quite a lot. It's disappointing to learn that the collectibles don't get you anything, with the exception of collecting all the coins getting you a "lol thx m8" from the guardians at the end of a world, but I've been enjoying the pure challenge of getting some of them. It feels like a small accomplishment in itself being able to snake around a tricky obstacle and make it back to a checkpoint with new loot in tow. It feels like the collectibles *are* the reward for getting better and better at this unique playstyle and control scheme. The camera is definitely an issue that gets in the player's way from time to time. Quite a few times now I've had to completely halt what I was doing to fiddle with the camera for a good minute before I felt like I could safely continue on my way, and it's even worse when you're looking for collectibles in the water. No world variation is also a really big issue. I really hope that if this game ever gets a sequel, the devs use actual environments for the level designs instead of basic poles. I was actually really disappointed to find myself unable to scale the actual fauna in the game when I tried. I had myself wrapped around a vine hanging between two trees while looking for a coin in one of the first worlds, and poor Noodle legit got stuck on seemingly nothing. XP Despite those complaints, I'll say again that I've really been enjoying my time with the game. I haven't been playing it non-stop (unlike when I opted to revisit the Pikmin series thanks to seeing that platformer again), but it's definitely been fun. Playing like an actual snake has been a really novel treat.
Wow, you really nailed it with this Arlo! Your thoughts pretty much mirrored my own, especially how the collectathon aspect was largely worthless. They could've at least made it so that when you collect enough coins you can buy skins for Noodle or Doodle (or both), while the orbs unlock maybe concept art or something like that, kind of like the red rings in Sonic Generations. That would at least give incentive for those who don't care about completion goals (like myself).
You should make 'How would I make it better' into its own series, maybe focusing mostly on classic games or new ones.
Hilgo agreed
I'd binge that.
How would Arlo made Pong Better?
I can see "How Would Arlo Make ____ Better?" becoming a meme.
Waddle Dee It would be up there with "Yeah...but Solid Snake"
this isn't a huge reward but I 100% this game and at the end you get a retro pixel costume for noodle and doodle
Makna 182 Thank you!!! I wanted to know what the reward was so I don't have to figure it out myself
So you basically get to change your skin. HA! GET IT?! BECAUSE HE IS A SNAKE?!?!
God damnit now I need to 100% it
I also recently completed this game.

Same, I loved it.
for anyone that cares about the characters, Noodle's patterns show that he is coral snake. coral snakes are extremly venomous and dangerous.
that's why there are no enemies in the game. Snake Pass would be a whole lot less cute if you poisoned your enemies to death.
There are actually crabs in the game. And they get REAL SCARED when Noodle passes near them.
Funnily enough, the first thing the game said to me that Noodle is a vegetarian
I think they meant for him to be a milk snake they just got the colors wrong
@@kookycoconut the maker of the game owned two snakes so I doubt that they did not choose certain colors on purpose
LOL I JUST BOUGHT SNAKE PASS 5 MINUTES AGO THANKS FOR THE REVIEW ARLO BABE
The King lmao king
The King you are everywhere
I just bought it too. Great timing Arlo!
How is it? Worth it?
Same
I really enjoy Snake Pass. I don't have near as much trouble with the controls as you did. They make sense to me and work as expected. I can see where it would cause issue for some though.

I like to believe some people just have more of a mechanical mind then others.
Especially when said reviewer has only two fingers!
I really enjoyed the game as well. I 100% the game. It took me a bit to understand how to properly move around and not die all the time. Gotta take your time and plan your moves. Wrap around bamboo poles a lot to avoid your body pulling you off.

I was about to comment about how Rayman Origins did this.
That game made it easier recollect it
Arlo, how long till we see you in a Sesame Street cameo?
the muppet society of America is not too fond of youtube muppets
TH-cam muppets are notorious for sharing controversial views about the immigration of sock puppets
PETITION TIME!
that's kinda racist...
PowahSlap Entertainmint I heard Donald Trump is getting rid of Sesame Street
*BUT* this game looks *SOLID* ! I mean, I really wanted to get *SNAKE* Pass
I'm sorry
you win, this version of the joke is the best
Supporting suicide makes MadCap sad
Nadav Freedman you should, it's a great game, genuinely, it's a solid and the people really knew how to make it great
Me too! As I want to play different games and Snake Pass got my attention!
TheSomeoneXD I know your joking but never encourage people trust me one time someone said I should kill my self and I almost did it

It seems to be a first step into something great. I hope it gets a sequel that learns from it's mistakes.
Azazin Note This is the SMB1 of snake games. The foundation is there, but there's still a lot of experimenting to be done get it "right."
It's, misnapes
Misnakes
The only mistake is the lack of rewards for collecting stuff
But arlo... there IS a reward for collecting. Thr developer said there was gonna be a "surprise" if you collect 'em all.
ButtLess He was talking about small rewards for completing a level or world, not completing the game.
yeah, but "All or Nothing" rewards aren't worth collecting unless you are a completionist & even then is not that much of a reward
So would you say it wasn't a Solid Snake?
Rimshot
HA! 🙃
*BUT SOLID SNAKE*
chluebi Done.
IT'S NOT OVER YET SNAKE!
0:29 Snake? Snake? SNAAAAKE!?
*THERE'S NOTHING SOLID ABOUT THAT SNAKE*

Clicked this video and immediately scrolled down to the comments. Good work guys, the "but Solid Snake" references coming in strong
Mr. Mister Haha, yeah, I'm *totally* in on this joke and I'm not totally trying to get it by scrolling through comments!
yumitsu You should watch Arlo's video on avoiding spoilers. That's where it's from.

ok

SAME.
Yeah but solid snake pass
i was gonna make that joke...

Nice job copying the top comment.
Shrek is that really you????????????
I like the idea behind "How Would I Make it Better". It encourages discussion and actually trie to give solutions rather than just criticizing problems. And as someone who is studying in game design, this is something I could learn from.

Best TH-cam channel hands down...entertaining, funny and knowledgeable! Keep up the great work!
Another Great Review Arlo!
The one thing I can tell whenever I click on an Arlo video is that it will be honest. It doesn't seem like you're just making excuses for things when you support something or that you actively hate something for the sake of hating it. It's really refreshing to have a clear mind on popular subjects nowadays, thanks.
I guess I'll give Snake Pass a "Snake Pass"
Ba dum keeeeeeeeesssssshhhhhhhh
PurplePhantom the cringe
That joke is in the game.
Yeah but solid snake
PurplePhantom believe me, you should really try this game before saying this kind of stuff, it is really fun but had a big difficulty curve
Arlo's a gift to TH-cam. One of the most intelligent reviewers and an entertainer too. Just a treat to watch your vids man.
Oof... Brutal, Arlo! I'm loving the game. ;)
If the collectibles saved automatically, it would defeat the challenge of getting them. Players would just leap to them and respawn every time.
Dude i just wanna say I love your content and I am baffled at why you
are not consistently on trending. It is obvious that you put so much
work into your channel, what with the regular uploads of thoughtful and
high-quality videos, unique style of the puppet, and the family-friendly
yet not babied content. Honestly, it is so obvious that you care so
much about what you do, and i cannot wait to see you continue to upload
more our your stuff, or collab with Lockstin, or reach out to other
channels.
Are you gonna finish your botw review?
See, this is the type of review I like, balanced, while providing constructive criticism, as well as a way to improve the game! Awesome job, Arlo!
Arlo isn't very good at snake pass
its matt
He’s mad cuz bad
That's probably why he doesn't like it. He just wants to breeze through it easily and this is *clearly* a game that you take your time with ...
This is the main reason for the low score lol
Wow, I didn't realize how many subscribers you had, I've been here since you were at 4,000 and seeing your channel grow so much so fast is amazing. You're the only TH-camr that I've so strongly wanted to see succeed, and seeing that happen makes me so happy!
Git gud ;p
Oh my god the real lonely goomba
@@linusovery-smith4246 this is the first time I have seen a lonely goomba comment without 1000s of loves
I think the "How would I make it better" bit actually says more about the game than the score does, I like when reviews include something like this.
Or arlo is just shit
It's flawed though, a snake shouldn't really be falling off things just from sitting in a coil and more meaningful collectables would be nice but I still had a blast with it.
this is really good video
Thank you for your thorough review. With the exception of relative turning - and why the heck DOES he decide to turn a different direction simply because his body is pointed a different direction now than it was a second ago?! - you covered every one of my complaints with this game.
There really ought to at least be demos for all games if they aren't going to allow refunds. I would've never purchased this game if I'd been able to personally experience its flaws before buying it.
Yeah but Solid Snake Pass.
Link,Hero of Dank why is this a meme?
I like the way you made it better.
My suggestion would be: the snake swallows orbs like eggs and spits them out on solid ground, how you see that you've collected them. Then that little bird following you picks them up and then you really have it.
I'd also make the coins harder to reach, but also instantly saved. The places they appear in should be intended to leap off in order to get it.
Are you gonna review Disgaea 5 Complete? its like the next best switch game.
Love the "how to make it better" section in the end!
First time I think I disagreed with you about a game. I found the game an absolute joy to play, it has been years since I had to actually "learn" how to play a game. After you get used to "thinking like a snake" it just feels good to traverse each level, and the collectibles are just a way to convince you to tackle the trickier segments
All in all, despite its flaws Snake Pass is truly something new, something that hasn't been done before and accomplished quite well. It is fun, challenging and flexes your gaming muscles in new and exciting ways. If I had to grade it, it would never be bellow a 7/10, even with all its camera quirks and sometimes frustrating checkpoints
I totally agree with you Arlo, about the optional collectibles. There HAS to be a substantial reward(s) for collecting optional collectibles, for me to be bothered to care about collecting the optional collectibles.
do a review of botw
I just got this game for my Switch! Its hard, but its so much fun! The controls and level design are so great! It looks so good and David Wise's relaxing music score is second to none! Definitely a one of a kind game, and it's nice to see a game built around a simple idea--a platformer with no jumping where youre taught to think like a snake--can be executed so sublimely!
Wait what? Arlo you used 2 of you hands whie usng the head. do you have 3 arms
EnderNite I think that's just a general puppet thing, though I'm not sure how it's done.
No, he has 2 arms. Are you blind?
No, he has 2 hand and one head, I don't see what the issue is here
As a puppereer, we generally use arm rods.
9:05 I could watch those Arlo review score animations all day.
I think the biggest problem was that you didn't understand how weight distribution works for a snake, or why checkpoints are essential. The physics aren't wonky. The checkpoints aren't useless. Calm down.
Zippy Ragu i agree
Its a video game you idiot it shouldnet have to be realistic
Hey, that's Snake Mistakes by Dan Deacon! I love that song!
Dang Arlo, you're quickly becoming my favorite youtuber. Not only do you give accurate and enjoyable reviews, you've also got great taste in music!
I'll accept my million points now ;D
the controls are not the problem, the problem is that you are impatient and irritable.
Luis Alonso Arreola Zavalza mmmm no its the controls
Honestly the controls aren't bad when you get used to them. I could tell Arlo was trying to rush a bit here and there, that might have also been a problem.
The controls were easy for me. I just took my time and went slow.
Yeah, Love ya Arlo but this is totally true
I would've had gatekeeper medals unlock levels. They are GATEKEEPER medals after all, and gates lead places.
Clearly u didn't think like a snake which the game tells u to do
and yes this Is a joke lol
the devs really meant it though...
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO MAKE A DAN DEACON REFERENCE BUT YOU DID IT FOR ME I LOVE YOU
Controls, controls, controls... Just because it is way different than you're used to, doesn't mean it's bad. I love the controls, very satisfying! And about the "save collectables when you hit the ground"-thing is a lame idea. Collectables aren't for kids in this game, man...
He never said in the video just because controla are diffrent means there bad
I'm a simple man. I see arlo upload and I call it a good day 👽
I'm sorry arlo but the game is not that hard. I think you just are not very good at it.
Just because your not good at a game dosnet mean you cant criticise it
Hey Arlo! I love your channel; keep up the great work! I just beat Snake Pass last night. I found the game to be a lot of fun, but usually would limit myself to one or two levels per night as to not get super frustrated. Great review!
Looks good, plays bad. Really bad.
Have you even played it.
Yes. Didn't like it at all. Loved the music. David Wise
You never disappoint Arlo
Either way, definitely excited to see what they cook up next!
arlo is being creative and using his mind. oh shit, I've seen this before.
Keep creating great content Arlo!
Arlo is the best at ending videos.
I like the inclusion of "How Would I Make it Better?" keep it up :) !
6:58
Collecting all the collectables on every level unlocks "8-bit" skins of Noodle and Doodle (Basically the characters if they were made of Legos)
That "how to make it better" theme is the best xD
I'm so glad that I played it on PC with keyboard and mouse, so I could have control of the camera at all times, and play it at a higher frame rate.
I hope (if there is one) that snake pass 2 will fix a lot of these issues and be *utterly amazing*
As for the collectable checkpoint idea, I believe Rayman Legends used a similar system.
When you pick up a gold coin, you would have to avoid getting hit by anything for a couple seconds, otherwise it would spring back to its original position.
Love the new segment (and the theme for it XD)
XP
Despite those complaints, I'll say again that I've really been enjoying my time with the game. I haven't been playing it non-stop (unlike when I opted to revisit the Pikmin series thanks to seeing that platformer again), but it's definitely been fun. Playing like an actual snake has been a really novel treat.
I like your How Two Make It Better section I think more reviewers should do it. Also I was thinking the same thing about your suggestion.
keep up the good work arlo!
I've never regretted a purchase as fast after downloading Snake Pass.
