    You should wear a work apron or vest with pockets while you are working. Makes the day go a lot smoother if you can have all your most used tools right on you. (Source: work in a thrift store that goes through like 2,000 lbs of clothes a day)

    This is great! I like a white background so I'm going to use white flannel instead of the carpet. It will provide the friction needed to keep clothes from sliding.

    Thanks, great video and a great way to achieve the results. Luckily I already have the table! An option I’ve used instead of plywood is get 4-6 sheets of Foam Board at the dollar store and use them to extend your table size. You can tape them together or use Velcro to attach them to the table. Then cover them with a table cloth using the reverse side that has a felt like backing, or the carpet like you said. The tilt is the key. I’m twice Joshes age at least and have had 4 spine surgeries so my back gives out sooner when bending. And kneeling on the floor hurts the old knees too. I look forward to making mine. Now I need to get a pair of ring lights!

    To save space you could add some hinges and a latch to a wall and then you wouldn't need the risers and would work good if you're limited on space. You wouldn't really need the table either if you added some like cable and had it set to only go down so far like a Murphy bed design.

    I’ve been using a flat lay system for a couple years now. At first I was using hangers and foam board then a mannequin and they were way to slow to deal with. Ow I sue a combination. I have a larger desk top photo boot that works well for most shirts and jeans but use a system like yours for larger pieces like jackets and suits. Nice vid. Well done. And an easy project. Thanks

    I use a baseball pitching net for my lay out. I just add a large white cloth over first then bullet through pictures. So much faster and easier. I use it during the day, the kid after school for baseball pitch practice! It’s at an angle, I don’t bend down, it’s large and I can break it down super quick. Best thing, $3 NEW at garage sale! I agree. Flat lay is the best. Like you said, it's about getting the numbers up there, so I try to get my photos better, but in the end, they just need to be good enough. I'm creating a setup like yours. What I found was a vintage drafting table. I'm using it like it is now, but I'm going to get a 4x6 sheet of plywood like yours so I can photo almost anything. The table top is adjustable so I can tilt it at any angle. Great minds think alike! I'm almost to your setup. Do you have a current video that shows the lights you use? Thanks!!!!

    • @Josh-Kim
      @Josh-Kim  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for watching! My main light is a Neewer ring light, and I have two regular daylight bulbs I use to supplement the ring light. I should do an updated video on my eBay office, and set up 😊

    Thanks for the video Josh. I think I'm going to build something similar too. I can definitely relate to this. I've always struggled to get good clothing pictures. I've tried laying flat on the floor = backpain. I've tried lay flats on a flat table and still get back pain or I would have to stand on a chair to get a good top down shot. I tried just using a hanger, but didn't like the messy bunched up look. Mannequins are just too time consuming and awkward. Thanks again.

    Here's how to do the same thing for a fraction of the cost. Get a sheet of 4 x 8 foam board for $10 from Lowes, a sheet of fabric for maybe $15, and get 4 clamps from the dollar tree.
    Prop the board against the wall. Place a chair, bench or whatever under the other end to adjust the angle of the lay.
    Total cost: $30.00 or less.
    Much better than $140.00, and the foam board is a lot lighter than plywood.

    $160+ for a setup that could be done on a bed or dining room table 🤔 No thank you. Some of us aren't rolling in the dough like you.

      My wife would kill me if I put thrifted clothing on our bed or dining table 😭 And I get it. I’ve been taking pictures of clothing on the floor for 3 years before upgrading to this. You have to do what works for you and your situation. Just sharing what I decided to upgrade to 😊

      @@graycat5959 Agree. But, those exact same materials minus the partially board could have been purchased for a fraction of the cost at a place like Walmart or Amazon. IJS

      Josh was providing a great idea. We can use what we have and our creativity to make it our way. I’ve seen artist or drafting tables on my local marketplace for $25 or Free come and get it. They already tilt. Or lean a big piece of stiff cardboard against a chair or sofa at an angle 📐. Once your back starts hurting you’ll agree your throughput will be much faster like this than bending over a table or floor. Plus when you bend over a floor or table your perspective often gets exaggerated making the dimensions of the clothes look large or wide at bottom and skinny at top. Or if you lean over you get in the way of the light 💡 causing shadows. Kudos to Josh for taking his time and showing us a better idea.
