There are one example of a quest that has bad directions, and there are 2-3 quests that give you wrong directions because they were in a hurry and forgot to watch their compass. That’s it. I finished the game a week ago and I didn’t have to look up anything on the wiki even once. Just read instructions carefully.
@@max7971 imo the cavern of the incarnate location is a bit hard on your first playthrough but otherwise MQ is straightforward, as is most of the rest of the game. EDIT: Also going to vivec first time is horrible.
@@max7971 actually, they are pretty bad. Most of them say something like, "in a cave east of here" or "beneath the bridge" , not mentioning that it's halfway across the map or in a very tiny manhole...
So long as he followed the proper levelling progression it would be doable with Heavy Armor/Block in a couple of hours of gameplay. First let a couple of rats nibble on you until the gain slows down. Then a wolf, sabrecat, bear and then you can try a giant. But make sure you have enough stamina potions to sprint away from the giant when you need to heal;).
The last time I did Ysolda's quest, I planned to just wait until I find a tusk naturally. I got maybe 50 meters outside of Whiterun before seeing a mammoth spawn in 100 feet off the ground and fall to its death.
Protip: there's a mammoth tusk right there in the Bannered Mare, on top of one of the shelves behind the bar. Just don't let anyone see you take it and it counts for this quest. In fact, the random-ass mammoth tusk sitting right there makes me believe you were always intended to steal it for this quest, considering the low level you'd be getting it at.
I've always "loaned" that one for this quest. Or if i've somehow forgotten that one, i've just headed for the halted stream camp because of the transmute ore spell there too, gotta get that smithing & enchanting up, might as well level my alteration at the same time.
I usually just wait to find one naturally while I do other stuff. If memory serves, there’s a bandit camp full of them that I tend to end up clearing out pretty early on.
Skyrim quests: "Go here and kill some stuff for me. I'll mark you on your map" Morrowind quests: "Yes, you need to go to this generic-looking tomb and retrieve a generic-looking bow for me. To get there: take the south way from the town, follow the river until you see a bunch of dead trees, turn right on the biggest one, then jump three times on a rock until you hear a Cliffracer, run for your life to the north, and you'll find the tomb."

Morrowind: Go north of the city until you see the mages tower * actually south west * Actually not a tower but a small hut * they say mage tower but the only mage thing about it is that there's a necromancer * actually really easy to confuse it with a dwelmer ruin if you google it and spend countless hours clearing it just to realize it's for another quest and you lack the correct item to enter the last room.
I had so much trouble with Morrowind in the beginning. I have a terrible sense of direction, so I was constantly lost. It's still one of my top ten games, though, and I spent many, many hours as a teen playing it.
I know how you feel. I had so many hours running around trying to get my bearings only to have cliff racers show up. I think that is how they became so memeworthy, and why Saint Jiub is so loved.

First time doing the Mammoth Tusk Quest in Skyrim: Did other things for 60 hours, stole it in Morthal, and remembered the quest right afore I met Paarthurnax😂
I remember my first time trying to get to Balmora in Morrowind. I didn't want to take the Silt Strider, so I walked. I didn't know I was supposed to take a right and follow the Odai when I crossed the bridge to the river so I journeyed to the swamp, I then got cornered by some Nix Hounds and kept reloading the same save o er and over until I killed them with Firebite on my High Elf mage. It was awful and so much fun.

Fighting a giant in Skyrim: Just shoot it in the head. It dead. Fighting a mammoth in Skyrim: Soul trap, then shoot it about 50 times while backing up as fast as you can until it finally dies, but Soul Trap wore off in the meanwhile.

for those that don't wanna fight giants, if you go to the back side of whiterun and keep walking there's a bandit camp where they're harvesting mammoth parts

In Daggerfall, if you have low streetlanguage or smth like that (speech was divided in two skills, one for talking with peasants and one for talking with the noble), the villagers could give you WRONG directions and you would spend a lot of time until you are given a correct one.
Thats the is with morrowind I was doing a quest for the mages guild and took the wrong path. Turns out the place I thought was the right place was not and was spelt with an a not a u so I just destroyed a poor house members fort.
That's the joy of Morrowind, cleansing a Sixth House fort from top to bottom, before you realise this totally isn't the place That Guy Whos' Name I Forgot As Soon As The Dialogue Closed wanted me to go to. Oh well, time to start expanding out in a spiral pattern until I find another place to vent my wrath upon.

I'll sum up my TES questing here... Morrowind quest:. With this character's death, the game is broken, please restore a previous save or continue to Chad your way in this doomed world. Oblivion quest: Guard kills the friendly NPC that is assisting you with your quest because they killed a hostile. (Nooo! Arielle Jurard! WHYYY!!? Baaae! 😭😭😭) Skyrim: Random Dragon or vampire attacks kills every NPC that isn't necessary to the main quest.
You can tell Squidward in new to the game, since he didn't just go kill the starter bandits at Halted Stream Camp and take the six mammoth tusks they have just lying around.
The good old days, when there were spears, throwing stars, and crossbows, and a player could leave their right arm bare except for a bracer, because it's the early 2000's and asymmetrical armour was badass.
There is a mammoth tusk inside the bannered mare behind the counter on the top of the shelf, I talk to Ysolda, steal the tusk, and hand it to her in under 2 minutes, easiest quest in the game. I am truly a GAMER!
Morrowind quests: "I want you to find me some wolf meat. I don't give a shit if we're in the middle of an island, thousands of km away from the main land, and I've never seen a wolf before in this area. GTFO and figure it out." Oblivion quests: "I want you to find me some wolf meat. I believe there's a wolf den somewhere north of here, just follow the trail of blood when you exit the town." Skyrim quests: "I want you to find me some wolf meat. Here, I'll mark it on your map the exact location for the wolf den. Also, here's this magical spell that guides you to your objective. Oh you're still lost? Here's some wolf meat, now you can bring this back to me again."
I have a modpack that removes the fortify smithing/enchanting potions so I have to get some drug mod to give me a recipe for a skooma drug called "The second brain". It needs mammoth tusks for crafting. Mammoth tusks are quite easy to get a hold of tho. Just go to halted stream camp. You also get the all important transmodify spell tome.
Honestly I didn't have a problem with that quest on my first playthrough since as soon as I saw a mammoth I spent an hour kiting it and the following giant with the weakest weapons in the game. All because I said >oh look a big enemy >better chop them down like a tree
When I first played Morrowind years ago as a teen, I quit it, because I could not figure out what to do. Years later, after many years playing RPG, now I have developed good sense of direction: I don't even need maps anymore if I pay attention to the dialogues. But damn, that still sucks being concentrated all the time in order to not miss something important (cause, you know, no quest marks). Still, it's a nice experience indeed, and more immersive in a way.
go get the Mammoths tusk, it sounded so simple... until you realise that there are no Mammoth skeletons to take the tusk from, and you have to back your ass for the Giant to clobber it...
Even though I got into TES through Skyrim I played the other games as well. To be honest I like the no quest marker and reading text approach in Morrowind. Feels more like an RPG and makes you explore more instead of just running from A to B and back.
Oblivion quests: I heard a some NPCs talking about how this guy having an issue with Rats in ther basement. Oh the rats aren't a problem? Wait theres a mountain lion? Several minutes later: Okay so we killed a den full of mountain lions with the help of this hunter and we found out why they were coming into the city. Its cause the neighbor wanted to lure the rats out but attracted mountain lions

I always just go do the Halted Stream Camp as one of the first things in any playthrough. Lots of Tusks, lots of Iron, and the Transmute Ore Spell.
I mean, in every game I’ve ever played I run around and talk to every NPC. So I immediately found out you can just ride the bug to Balmora.

Even though I got into TES through Skyrim I played the other games as well. To be honest I like the no quest marker and reading text approach in Morrowind. Feels more like an RPG and makes you explore more instead of just running from A to B and back.
Skyrim has always felt more like an action adventure game to me. Morrowind was an actual RPG.
