  • Is Budapest or Prague better? It depends. In this video, I go through the pros and cons of both cities.
    I have organised this video to show what works best for a trip with kids or with just your partner, looking for attractions and sightseeing or the best restaurants.
    You can also read below a more extensive post I wrote with maps, best restaurants, a few hotels names and all the organised trips you can do from either city.

    Budapest without a second thought . One of the most beautiful cities in the world. I want to drink my favorite Tokaji wine on the hills of Buda and look at the beautiful Danube. Greetings to our Hungarian neighbors from Serbia

    Just spent time in both : Prague is very nice and the old city pleasant to walk around in for a day… Budapest however remains perhaps the most beautiful and spectacular city in the world!!! No contest!!

    I have been to Prague one time and never to Budapest, so I cannot have a true opinion. But I am Czech and my wife is Hungarian so I have to say that both cities are great.

    Frankly, I didn't really get what would be the reasons to prefer Prague over Budapest. Except for cheaper beer and preserved old town, what is really better in Prague? In my opinion, nothing. I visited Prague once and it was a real nightmare, so I have never ever got the desire to try it again. Expensive accommodation, overpriced restaurants, rude staff, severely overcrowded subway (to the point that I was claustrophobic while traveling in such overpacked trains), and, above all, horrible crowds of people everywhere in the historical parts of the city, such as Charles bridge, etc. I did not even manage to cross that bridge, because there were a billion people on it at every moment. But the most unpleasant thing was actually the rudeness of local people towards tourists and typical tourist destinations overcharging for everything. In Budapest, not even half of these troubles happened to me. Better and cheaper apartments and restaurants, better and safer transportation, and much less unfriendly staff - this is valid for Budapest, not for Prague. Plus, Budapest has affordable magnificent thermal baths, which are the best in the world. Why would be better to live in or visit Prague? I did it once and regretted it, I swear. Prague has only built up some better fame around its attractions in the world of European tourism, that is all.

      Thanks for your feedback. Luckily we are all different, otherwise Budapest would be as full as Prague😜 as I said in the video, my preference goes to Budapest and part of the reasons is the overcrowded centre of Prague. But avoid that and also Prague has beautiful hidden corners, as the last area I presented in the video of "where to stay in Prague". On the contrary, district VII of Budapest is becoming a real mess, probably it is already 🤣
      Cheers

      @@StefanoFerro Well, thank you for replying. I was speaking in general about the quality of service and space. The 7th district in Budapest is the only one of many central districts, which has been turned into a pure party place. Other quarters which are also interesting for tourists are quiet and much less populated. Everything else in Budapest works normally - and, which is most important, transportation is normal, efficient, and safe. Budapest is much more spacious and calmer, and, with exception of a few squares and particular spots, mostly in the city center prices are normal and balanced. Prague is inhumanly overpopulated with tourists. I find it awkward that the authorities are allowing such a huge amount of people to storm Prague's small historical center. The reason for that is simply, in my opinion, more assertive advertising of Prague as one of THE attractions in Europe, such as Paris, Florence, Rome, etc. The truth is, almost half of the small towns in France or Italy have beautiful small corners and gems like Prague - but Prague simply strives to attract tourists.

      I totally agree. And in some respects, it is a government problem. So easy to push tourism into Tuscany, for example, much less into Umbria, mostly unknown to the mass. But they are both so beautiful, and hard to understand why one doesn't see much tourism and the other is almost unmanageable in peak season.
      I was lately in Malta and the Tourism Board is doing such a great job pushing Gozo, the second island, and not anymore Valletta and the main island, already well known and with plenty of tourism. Thanks again for this talk. Very constructive

      Prague is in better country, that's the main difference, no Orbán, no Putin supporters everywhere, no hate against different people. How city looks like is one things, but where you want to live permanently? Do you want to live in Hungary and support Putin by everything you buy there? I don't.

    • @Kinlever
      @Kinlever ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Pidalin We did not discuss here Hungary or Czech Republic politics, but Budapest and Prague. Orban politics does not have much to do with the functionality of Budapest, his party does not even rule local government in Budapest. And yes I lived in Budapest for 6 years, and it was the best city I have ever lived in. Living in a certain country does not mean supporting the government. Otherwise you could ask this question every American, why didn't they leave USA when Trump was the president. Also, don't tell me that Czech republic has a different financial politics than Hungary - they are both parts of Visegrad group and EU and they do 90% the same things. At the moment Czech republic has a pro-Nato president, but that could also change in the future. Will you advise people not to visit Prague, if one day Czech people elect someone else?

    For me it's Prague, hands down. I've been to Budapest once and Prague 13 times. Prague is the most preserved city it's size in Europe, with all classical styles of European architecture. It's also easy to walk around Prague, whereas Budapest not so much. For thermal baths, Karlovy Vary has very nice thermal and mineral baths. Czechs basically invented modern beer and perfected it. There's nothing better as a beer lover than tank beer in Prague and CR. Prague is very nice all year, but in summer the beergartens are very nice.
