Triumph have yet to sync there software for the inertial measurement unit along with fueling, your right after an extensive test ride on one I did not find the sp triple throttle smooth as I hoped it would be, on street speed ofcourse at the very last minute I ended up with the mt10 sp aside the brakes the ride itself felt much more refined. Then again in comparison all in all aside from the previous gen sp triple looks I feel the older version rode much smoother at road speeds had no throttle lag or splutter.
Great feedback - as someone else has commented, it's nice to have your comments because you know how to use a bike. Mr Cuban the cool, calm hooligan ! Can't wait for the next instalment 👍👍👍👍
I love hearing someone critique things on a new Speed Triple -- the clutch, the "jerkiness" of the lower throttle, lack of steering damper -- and I realize they're also describing the 2016 and even 2000 Speed Triples I've had. lol All I can figure is that's part of the S3's "personality." Great bike tho. That sound is iconic, and coming from Triumphs to my own S1000XR like yours, I was stunned by the lower build quality of the BMW. The Triumph feels hand-build and solid, high quality materials. The Beemer, not as much. Anyway, congratulations!
It’s interesting to me how other riders have the exact same thoughts on the exact same bikes we ride. I too am an XR and Speed Triple owner. I had to sell the Speedy in my divorce but then waited for this new one to come out. Perhaps next year when folks like Cuban have figured out the best full exhaust and fuel management setups.
That was a great no BS and honest review! Thanks Cuban. The bike still looks extremely impressive even with the minor faults. I agree with the "not being able to have TC while anti wheelie is off" annoyance. My 10 year old Tuono can even do that, TC on, anti wheelie off. Not very hard, but for some reason Triumph didnt make that possible? Same with the rider modes. Strange choices by them. Like you say, hopefully they can sort that out with a software update. All the best, looking forward to future videos on the Speed!
Great review, I've had 4 Speedys over the years and have enjoyed all of them, currently on a Superduke 2.0, very tempted to test ride the 1200, glad you got black it looks beautiful 👍
Test ride the Speed Triple 1200 RS. You’ll hand over your SuperDuke in a heartbeat. I demoed both bikes back to back recently and that Triumph handles better, sounds better, and has incredible fit and finish. Went into the demos expecting to love the SuperDuke (looks badass) but Triumph nailed it with this bike. 👍🏻
My favorite bike of all 2021 models to be honest. I've never really liked Triumph as I've just seen them having less of everything compared to other brands. I just feel they have done a lot right with this new bike, and I really love it to be honest. It even looks good which I also never have thought about the Triumph cycles.
Great video. I picked mine up on the 26th and love it. You were spot on with both the good and the bad. One thing you didn’t mention which might just be my back is it’s hard to find neutral as well as sometimes will pop into a false neutral. I can’t wait for an exhaust system to be released and maybe even a flash if we’re lucky.
I did forget to mention neutral. Will have to talk about it on the longer-term review. The shifter appears to be getting smoother finding it, so we'll see.
I deadset can't wait to see you tearing it a new a$$hole and giving the true and honest feedback about the bike! Most, not all reviews on the speed so far really do not give you honest feedback...all about flights and test rides, must say the right thing hey 😎
I just got my 2022 spreed triple 1200 RS and my only complaint is the sound…. I was expecting something dramatic and it’s pretty subdued. I had the 2020 street triple RS and that was a screamer, and I could rev to 13-14K rpm easily, but this bike will hit 90 MPH in 1st gear without getting to 10k rpm, and it just doesn’t sound that great. I can’t wait for project SC or another brand to release an exhaust.
@@sacredgeometry I complained that it’s too powerful? You clearly didn’t read what I wrote. I did nothing of the sort. I am extremely happy with the power. My comment was specific to the exhaust sound, which is terrible. Please re read what I wrote before you comment.
The throttle jerk issue was on the street triple too. I fixed it by disabling the 02 sensor because the transition between o2 and the map is abrupt. You can probably tune it out a different way too. I also added a ramp to my throttle tube.
I ride both a Yamaha R1 and a BMW GS, but I have had the chance recently to swap bikes with buddies to try the Triumph 765 Moto 2 and yesterday I got to try this new Speed Triple 1200RS. Both cool & fun bikes. The engine on this 1200 is really fun, though. Good spread of torque & usable power without running out of steam quickly the way some twins do. If they were my bikes I'd definitely take time to set up the suspension properly. The Speed Triple RS was much closer to correct than the 765 Moto2 I rode in stock form. Thanks for sharing!
I ride a 2007 speed triple, she also does the kick after closing the gas and open it again, its not a big problem riding in a sunny day, but if you are riding with rain its very very tricky!!!
Thanks CR for an informed by quick review of the Speed Triple 1200 RS. Looks well screwed together and super smooth but not sure if it matches the Tuono for character, suspension, electronics or even as the complete ‘super naked’ road package.
Also, consider the throttle spacers kit if they have one for this bike by ducati spacers. Apparently they had this throttle on/off issue with the thruxton etc that got solved with the spacers. They eliminate the RBW throttle slop and that smoothes out the throttle jerkiness. Otherwise, considering its euro 5, you may need to invest in a fuelling module (and risk warranty) to cure that.

I need to find a wheelie school nearby….I’m too scared of dropping my new and 1st bike…(Trident 660)… but you make it look so damn easy and way too cool and on bikes twice as powerful 🤙
I had the pleasure of taking the 1200RS out for an afternoon around the English countryside, it looks like you had far too much fun popping the front! 🤣👍 Nice review 🔥
Mine had the TPMS error too, but after turning the bike off and on a few times, it went away on its own. I did buy TPMS, and I want to get it installed ASAP.
Ahhh! Cuban! I really wanted the xr! Now I really want the speed! Always been a triumph fan, loved my Daytona, but wanted more upright. I'm hoping they sort out the electronics and suspension by a few model years and I may be able to grab a used one. Great video like always!
Good review. Yes the Triumph with all taxes close to S1000RR, however you get Öhlins full (minus dampener) and Brembo brakes, superior racing pedigree (including the sound as close to Moto2 bike) while S1000RR failure on the racing stage (WSBK failures), junk American Hayes brake calipers no longer Brembo and Marzocchi forks. The Triumph with 3 cylinder sounds better and the torque in the lower rev range more immediate vs flat four. Good videos on your channel
this bike looks fantastic, I'm going to arrange for a t.d. soon, I also own a hornet 600 and now might be a good time to have it replaced with this one.
very comprehensive review. Love how you cover the nuainces that only can be discovered as a owner rather than a simple press launch review. The point you made about price being high is really true through that can be said of all the super-nakeds now... 18K( Speedy, Tunou, S1000r w/Packages... -23k( streetfigther v4s) and how that overlaps into the Superbike category( S1000rr, new rsv4, Zx10r,R1 etc..) That said, I really like the Speedy and would definitely consider one in future once my achy body says no mas with clip-ons. lol! look forward to the upcoming content brother!
Thanks brother. I want to give it a more in-depth reviews after I've logged another 1-2k miles. Phenomenal motorcycles out these days. The MT-10, the Superduke R, the Tuono, all amazing in their own way. I thought about going superbike, but I really enjoy having bars that are a bit more comfortable for everyday use and can still do some damage at the track.
Thanks man. I think the Tuono is an amazing machine, there's a lot about it to love. It does get more expensive when fully equipped and the service intervals are more aggressive. At the end it didn't speak to me like this one does. 👍
Both great in their own way. A well sorted S1000R will do the same job for a lot less money, I think they're amazing value. But that sound was calling me. 😉
From a 2019 Speed RS owner, a lot of your complaints were/are resonated in the older model. Stabilizer is what shocks me every time. for a bike who's front end gets loose pretty regularly on hard acceleration I don't know why no factory or aftermarket stabilizer exist for the newer models. No traction control modes on the old RS either, but one of my biggest frustration with my gen that I'm curious to hear about on the new gens is whether or not the slipper is any good. The slipper clutch sucks. My 2008 R1's slipper is 10x better and I can't understand how that could be.
It works brilliant on this one, downshifts on point, but 2nd gear slipped into neutral a couple of times, pretty sketchy at the dragon. Will be talking about it on the next video.
Great review man. If that bike is anything like my street triple, it also has a very snatchy on off throttle feel. I think the euro 5 regulations really mess with bikes at that low rev low throttle area. It runs extremely lean there. I'm going to get a tune done soon to smooth it out. For the street triple you need an obd 2 Bluetooth attachment (plug in attachment won't work, only Bluetooth) and tune ECU to disable the o2 sensor, then you manually disconnect it. Then PCV to actually tune it. Assume it's the same for the speed triple.
My dealer was really good about it and even brought me out back and showed me how they disabled it on the their system. May not have the latest patch perhaps.
Agreed on the steering dampner , that & a screen should come in the price. When I test rode the 1160 I could not see at a glance on the display what mode I was in while riding. A stonking motor, fantastic brakes but a PIA to find neutral. What's with bolting the pillion seat on too? Very entertaining review man
Also, really good overview man - I agree with almost everything. I test rode one today, and under 3k it felt very "twin" like, like a ducatti where you can feel the bike chug along- Im convinced its a euro 5 thing (UK). Overall, amazing bike though
Interesting to compare it to the Duke 890. That’s not a bike I even consider when looking at the 1200RS. I have to agree after seeing that front end shimmy, a stabilizer would be needed. Didn’t get to turn off TC on the test ride, but with the speed that front end changes directions, seemed like that would be a problem. Good honest feedback.
perhaps this was asked before, but how close the SPRS to the S1000XR? Seems like you are using both bikes for the same purpose (riding super fast on twisty roads...)
Well, I get your point about the traction control. But, I think Triumph is not encouraging to disable ABS and traction control on the street as it could be illegal in some countries... I love your channel by the way. You are a great rider! If we would live any close to me, I would be braking your balls to go for rides and track together.. 😂 You are lucky that we live so far apart!😂🤣😜
I own a tiger 900 rally pro, u don't have to stop the bike to change map, u just have to stop using the throttle, so put it on neutral, close the throttle and u can go browse and select maps
So funny man I have the duke 890r and this is the bike I am thinking about, plus they are discounting it currently..... Steering stabilizer missing kinda sucks, every bike should have one.....why wouldn't you, all upside no downside
Great review! The on/off throttle in the beginning of the range is quite annoying. It's not an issue if you put it in rain mode, it's quite smooth from the beginning. But it's annoying to have to switch to rain mode to be able to drive smoothly at low speeds... I do wish they could fix some of these obvious issues in an update! I'm quite curious about your suspension tweaks to soften the suspension
Yes I agree as well! Just a little jerky part throttle in Road mode. I feel like Road mode is what Sport should be in terms of throttle sensitivity... im sure they could tweak the map a bit and send out an update tune. Triumph are you listening? Other wise an absolutely amazing motorcycle. I adjusted the suspension to suit my preferences and its truly a gem of a machine.
@@joshnelson2090 Makes sense, they should take Sport and call it Track, rename the current Road to Sport, and then create a new mode for Road that's a bit softer than today's version. I've ordered a set of throttle spacers (ducatispacers.com/products/triumph-throttle-spacer-kit). It's unknown whether they fit for the 2021 version. I'll report back if they fit and if it helps. It won't help with the on/off nature of the throttle but it will make it more predictable by removing the slack.
How does it compare to a Tuono V4? I'm very surprised that you can't turn wheelie control off without turning off the entire traction control... That's a tall order on a 175 horsepower bike
I think they're very similar in capability now, but very different character. The new Tuono is probably sharper around a road course, will have to see on future track days. 😉
I traded my Triumph to come back to KTM. The build quality of Triumph’s are top notch. I went from a 765 to the 890R, bc I missed the low down torque. I see why you traded. I’m just a torque junkie.
@@CubanRider I definitely miss the feeling of craftsmanship that came with Triumph. This 3rd Duke, no major issues but tons of dash lights and a constant feeling this MF could blowup at any minute. We’ll see.
Steering damper? That’s a no brainer it should come with one. I love bmw’s and triumph’s but I am too poor to overcome the $4000 tariff in the US above the actual price. Ktm’s are not subject to that so they are cheaper.
I will be using the same I run on the BMW, Castrol 5W-40. Triumph recommends 10W-40 or 10W-50 depending on the temperature, but 5W-40 works the same, it's just a little more fluid during cold starts.
First voice-over, so go easy on me. Lots of content coming from the trip to the mountains and some acceleration testing. ✊
THAT THING IS AWESOME!!! SEEMS LIKE A ALL AROUND BETTER BIKE THEN THE KTM
Good commentary. Where are you based that you're able to access mountains/COTA so often?

Do you know if you can remove the converter, would it be worth it?
How does it compare to ride with the 890 duke r?
This is one if the best videos👍👍👍nice wheelies👌
Thank you!
I own a tiger 900 rally pro, u don't have to stop the bike to change map, u just have to stop using the throttle, so put it on neutral, close the throttle and u can go browse and select maps
rain/road/sport yes, not for track/individual.
Don't you miss the steering damper? Not afraid of tank slaps?
Part of the fun lol
You did not mention anything related to the PowerRRR of the bike. How do you like it?
Any problems finding neutral at a stop?
Thanks for the review 👏🏻
I do like a bike that wheelies. Like the big 490 Maicos I used to race.
You will need to make a proper tune.
Beautiful bike.
Cheers.
Awesome review. See you tomorrow In the mountains!
Let's goooooo
I've got the TPMS fault dealer can't sort it whats going on???
Are the stock headers made out of titanium, as they become blue with gold?
Awesome review bro!
Thanks Jack.
Looks like a bad ass bike . Maybe you can do a comparison review on how it compares to the BMW?
Thanks.
What are you seeing for tank range when you ride it “like you enjoy”?
Another great video! Thanks
Didn't the older Speed Triples come with steering stabilizers?
I think I'm leaning more towards the Tuono v4
Don't think you can go wrong with either.
Is Americas calander 1 year ahead, how can it be a 2022 model?
Does it have better handling than 890? Is it better/faster than 890 in corners?
Good looking!
i want to see this bike on track!!! lets gooo
So funny man I have the duke 890r and this is the bike I am thinking about, plus they are discounting it currently.....
Steering stabilizer missing kinda sucks, every bike should have one.....why wouldn't you, all upside no downside
Any chance you could do an overall review of the duke 890r? I just bought one a month ago and I'm really enjoying it so far!
There are quite a few on YT by good riders.....phenomenal bike.....accurate with great componets....own one myself
It won't help with the on/off nature of the throttle but it will make it more predictable by removing the slack.
the throttle spacers from the previous gen Speed Triple do not fit this model
Just back off compression and rebound and get front and rear balanced...may take preload or new springs.....but am sure it can be sorted......
Thank you for this. However no way would I buy this bike if I was going to carry a pillion.
Damn, you really know how to rip on that bike.
congrats
Thanks man
How does it compare to a Tuono V4? I'm very surprised that you can't turn wheelie control off without turning off the entire traction control... That's a tall order on a 175 horsepower bike
I think they're very similar in capability now, but very different character. The new Tuono is probably sharper around a road course, will have to see on future track days. 😉
Nice grab on the Triumph. I’m a fan, but these bike prices are getting outrageous.
I have to agree with you. It can be more than buying a new car. 😬
wait a minute is the abs switchable????
I traded my Triumph to come back to KTM. The build quality of Triumph’s are top notch. I went from a 765 to the 890R, bc I missed the low down torque. I see why you traded. I’m just a torque junkie.
The torque in the 890 is explosive, perfect machine for the tight twisties.
@@CubanRider I definitely miss the feeling of craftsmanship that came with Triumph. This 3rd Duke, no major issues but tons of dash lights and a constant feeling this MF could blowup at any minute. We’ll see.
Nice review. I'll keep my XR :-)
Little weirded out by not having a steering damper as OEM
Definitely needs a steering damper. First thing I noticed watching the video.
Steering damper? That’s a no brainer it should come with one. I love bmw’s and triumph’s but I am too poor to overcome the $4000 tariff in the US above the actual price. Ktm’s are not subject to that so they are cheaper.
Just got to be careful with KTM pricing, those electronic packages will get you.
if you compare to KTM890, which one give you more fun on road and mountain???
Road the 1200, mountain the 890. Both great in their own way.
What kind of oil will you be running in this bike? Thanks
I will be using the same I run on the BMW, Castrol 5W-40. Triumph recommends 10W-40 or 10W-50 depending on the temperature, but 5W-40 works the same, it's just a little more fluid during cold starts.
Man you can ride!
Wow, youre a monster on that thing.
Speed triple more raw and faster then the blend s1000r 🔥🔥✊
HEB!!! How to say you're in Texas w/o saying you're in Texas! 👍❤️
Hahaha 👍
I can visualise scarface film (1983) from your accent, i love that movie
