Helpful if you need to know how to change spark plugs but what this doesn't address is the fack that these 5cyl engines have a problem with the head that eather the valve or spring wears Causin it to missfire it is a design flaw with in the engine wont cause it to brake down but will have a check engine light

Thats a tough one Houston Easton. It is so hard to diagnose the problem without seeing, hearing and experiencing the symptoms. This is just a guess of course, but could the Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid screens be plugged? This solenoid is designed to precisely control the flow of oil into the camshaft actuator. This changes the rotation of the camshaft to adjust valve timing and valve overlap on the go. If your truck does not respond well when you "kick her down", then it sounds like this part may not be working properly. I have a video on this if you're interested. I changed my solenoid out and I never did have those symptoms you are experiencing. Here is my video link where I change the solenoid: th-cam.com/video/QNvRwgKmNF0/w-d-xo.html
It is just a guess though... Good Luck!

Mine is getting a P0300 , random cylinder misfire. I see you mention that one in the description. I already did plugs and PCV hose (it was badly cracked). Guess i'll try the coils next, the plugs all looked fine when I took them out. It has a rough idle but no power loss

    • @cantletherdiediy1050
      @cantletherdiediy1050  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Tenny80, It could be a number of things causing that issue. It could be water or debris in the gasoline if you have recently done fuel pump work or have a poor seal around the fuel pump. However, I think you are on the right track. Sometimes when a coil pack begins to fail, it begins to fail only slightly, intermittently, not enough for the Control Module to determine which cylinder it is and therefore you get a random misfire. Once one coil pack starts to fail (wear out), usually the other ones are not far behind. I suggest that you try cylinder #1 first (closest to the fan) ...that seems to be the one that fails first. Good Luck!

My wife went to start our ‘05 Colorado one day and she said it wouldn’t start. I went out later and it fired right up and ran fine. I replaced the battery about a month ago.
I plugged in a diagnostic code reader to check it and it showed code for #1 cylinder coil misfire.
I had had all of the spark plugs changed out 3,500 miles ago at a local shop.
I ordered a complete set of coil packs today, won’t be in until tomorrow.
So I went about getting the truck stripped and ready for the changeout.
After I removed the wire connector plugs from all of the coil packs, I found a little pink plastic basket laying on the cover back near the #5 coil pack wires. 🤔
I checked all of the connectors and it was from the #1 coil! 🤬
I cleaned it and then snapped it into place inside the connector.
Is there any chance that since this insert was missing from the connector plug, that it would allow an arrant short inside the connector itself?

      @@jademonkie Hi Jademonkie,
That is hard to say for sure without testing the connection with a multi-meter. I believe that piece helps to keep the wires secure and separate to prevent jiggling and coming too close to each other and arcing / shorting like you suggest. So yeah, I would say it could cause an errand short causing your problem. (you can order that coil connector plug from ACDelco if you want to be sure ACD# PT1496 or GM# 15306431), If the pink piece snapped back in securely, then you may be ok. Its a judgement call.
Since you have the coils arriving today. I would put them in your truck. I find when 1 coil goes, the rest are soon to follow.
I hope that helps you Jademonkie? Good Luck!

I can reset it with a bluetooth obd2 reader. And my feeling is that it usually indicates at the start of the engine. Once started I have run about 60km without enginelamp indication until next start of the engine.. Any ideas?

    • @cantletherdiediy1050
      @cantletherdiediy1050  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hey Peter from Sweden! That's so cool that you come from across the pond from Canada. Well we got to tackle that P0352 code on your Colorado. Generally, when the coil or spark plug goes its a P0302 code indicating a misfire on cylinder 2.
A P0352 code indicates an electrical short, corrosion, poor connection issue related to cylinder 2 coil / spark plug. Since you already replaced cylinder 2 coil pack and spark plug, we can focus more on the electrical wire harness and plug connecting to # 2 coil pack. I suggest you closely inspect cylinder 2's coil plug. 1) Is it corroded or missing the purple insulator inside the plug? (you can compare with Cylinder 3's plug) causing the wires to giggle, touch & short out on occasion intermittently triggering the P0352 but not often enough to cause misfire? 2) Is there an exposed area on Cylinder 2's wiring harness causing a short against the other wires or other metal engine parts causing a short to ground?
      3) Could it be a broken Cylinder # 2 wire inside the rubber insulation so that it looks good but is broken internally? You may be able to feel for this break by gently pulling on every section of the wire to feel for a weak section indicating a break. ( or use a multimeter to test wire conductivity)
The good news is you can purchase the wire and plug from ACDelco (or get a used one from an auto salvage dealer) ACDelco will send you the new plug with 12 inches of wire and 3 but end connectors to replace that wire and plug. ACDelco part # PT1496 and GM part # 15306431. I hope that helps Peter. Anyone else have this P0352 code & issue? Cheers!

Cylinder 1 is the hardest cylinder to get the coil pack boot perfectly installed over the spark plug because there is a wiring harness in the way. Try removing the coil pack and re-installing it properly over the spark plug. It is an easy mistake to make and it would cause the misfire in cylinder 1.

Random p0301 code. Erase the code and the truck idles rough… and may or may not throw the code but truck still idles rough.. eventually it will throw the code but doesn’t save the code… (on my scanner)
After replacing coil pack on cylinder one, the truck still idles rough. And gets worse with the air box flex tube removed. So bad that if you rev up the engine it stalls immediately…
I’ve replaced all cam shift sensors from previous problem…(at time it was a “cam shaft actuator solenoid”) I’m concerned this may be something more serious…

Yeah, it did come out of nowhere. The coil may have failed. A P0302 is better than a P0300. Your P0302 has identified a misfire in cylinder 2 whereas P0300 indicates a general misfire but can not determine which cylinder. Check for a loose connection to cylinder 2 spark plug coil. You can swop Cylinder 2 coil with cylinder 3 and see if your code moves to cylinder 3.(P0303). I had to change one coil and then a month later another one went so I just changed all 5 coils. Any codes? What has been done so far? Is the cylinder 1 coil installed correctly? Due to the wiring harness partially obstructing the installation of that #1 coil, many people have installed that coil with the spark plug outside of the boot of the coil. Try removing coil 1, switching it with another coil, changing the spark plugs while your at it, and carefully re-installing the coils paying particular attention to inserting it with the boot going over the spark plug. I hope that helps.

      Hi Cameela,
Are you getting a check engine light? Are you getting a code for misfire on cylinder 1? Any other codes? What work has recently been done?
The more info you provide the better I will be able to help
Perhaps you should begin with the easiest repairs possible to rule out the simple fixes that can often be over looked and then move on from there.
      1) Is the connection to Coil # 1 properly install? Perhaps you should disconnect and reconnect it to be sure.
      2) Remove coil # 1 and swap it with coil # 2. Often , because the wiring harness is in the way, coil # 1 may not get installed properly. Since it is a little difficult to put coil #1 on without loosening the wiring harness (pulling it out of the way a bit) coil # 1 can be install with the spark plug outside of the rubber boot. If so, coil # 1 would appear to be install properly but would cause a cylinder 1 misfire. While you are at it, you might as well swap coil # 1 with coil# 2 to rule out a defective coil.
Those are two possible repairs to your problem that would not cost you anything. I would try those first before moving on to more challenging / costly repairs. I hope that helps Cameela. Cheers!

@@NikkFlo those are all (BCM) Body Control Module codes. Are you sure they are "B" codes and not "P" codes? The BCM is located under the dash behind the passenger side kick panel. The panel simply pulls off. I would inspect the connections, but you should be getting "P" codes for engine misfires

@@nsmturbo5902 I have the p0300 along with those. My ac will at times stop working and it’s due to the grounds. I have cleaned the grounds and checked points. Ac works as soon as I move the ground splice pack and clean it. The truck does burn oil too. About 1 qt every 1500 miles yet the plugs are clean. Could be the valve seat but wouldn’t a plug be dirty due to it? Thanks for the reply’s and help.
