    Wow. I searched high & low for the cause of my issue, which is basically word-for-word what you described in the video after our Colorado left my son almost stranded one evening (he limped it home a little at a time). I checked the intake bolts and 4 of them were loose. Went ahead and pulled it to install a new gasket set. Runs smooth and quiet as can be now. Thanks for posting this video man.

      Yes same here I was starting to think it jumped time cause I threw parts at this thing like my ex threw my cloths and belongings out the door ,
      It started out with a plan but quickly became out of control , you would have thought she had a screw loose the way she blew a gasket ? Well I hope this is the fix I can’t afford to give away too many more houses

      Mine has been getting worse for a couple of years. Yesterday I didn't think I was gonna get home. The difference is that during cool weather mine runs fine. When the ambient goes above 65 or so it shows every symptom mentioned here.

    I have the same truck and I got reduced power, code reader said it was the throttle position sensor, I’m gonna try and remove it and clean it, but mechanic said It would be a 600$ job. Resetting the battery fixes it temporarily but it just happens again. Any suggestions?

    Yeah ive been dealing with the intermittent p0171 code, i can hear the vacuum leaking near the back of the intake manifold towards the firewall. From what i understand the starter is under the manifold, so i imagine when it was last replaced the manifold was poorly reinstalled, im going to remove the manifold and check the gasket as you did here and ill get back to you 👍

    Exact same issue with 2014 malibu and a few more years, intake bolts back out and intake about falls off lol. My 2014 started running ruff all kinds of codes and a quick video showed this exact same issue.

    • @SouthernMechanic
      @SouthernMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@erickennedy2897 your welcome, when you have a vacuum leak and the system is sucking in extra air then it is making the system lean and if there is a vacuum leak and you spray a flammable substance and the engine sucks up the brake clean in this case then the engine will burn it just like it does the gasoline and in turn it will cause the engine to Rev up just like your opening the throttle but if there is no vacuum leak and you spray the flammable substance around the area then nothing will happen and the engine will remain at the same rpm

    Would u happen to know if I changed the motor mounts can I do it with engine in still or do I have to remove it to change them ? Not sure if it's true but bad motor mounts can also cause the bad idle right ?

    • @SouthernMechanic
      @SouthernMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, youtube changed their stuff around and I no longer receive message notifications like I use to, bad engine mounts won't cause bad idle they will just make you feel the vibrations alot more, you can check your mounts by putting the truck in gear with the hood up and holding the brake while reving it up a little and see how much the engine moves, do this in forward and reverse, you can usually change the mounts with the engine in the truck but will most likely have to jack the engine up but I have never tried to replace the mounts on a Colorado so I'm not 100% sure, I usually install new mounts while the engine is out for other repairs or being replaced

      @@SouthernMechanic awesome thanks .. also when you clean the carburetor, like I did to mine it revs higher and also since I did that it drives fine just idles high and if I let off the break and not push the gas it will go by itself and go up to almost 30mph on it's own .. it never did that until I took off the carburetor and cleaned it put it all back exactly how its supposed to and that's what it started doing ..

    Need your advice. I have a 2009 Colorado w/ 2.9l engine. The issue I’m having is once it gets to the normal heat temperature the rpm drops and shuts down. I turn it back on and last about 10 seconds and shuts down. I already replace the crank sensor, cam sensors, throttle body, o2 sensors. And still does the same thing. Any recommendations you may have on this issue?

    • @SouthernMechanic

      Check your fuel pressure, should stay around 50-60psi

      I checked the fuel pressure and it is good. I have changed the throttle body , cam and crank sensor and it still looses power. Rpm drops and shuts down. When it was tested with computer the rpm’s were rise to 1000 it stays on. When rpm’s go back to a little below 500 it shuts down. No one that I have called can seem to figure what the problem is. Can you help me with some advice? Thank you in advance.

    • @SouthernMechanic
      @SouthernMechanic  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rubena6768 I can't remember which wire but there's a wire going to the throttle body that's bad about breaking internally and to test it you look for the wire that has power for a few seconds when the key is first turned on then power goes away, if you don't get any power from it at all then the wire has a break in it and it will also cause those problems, I will try to fins which wire it is and get back with you
