I have a Coronamatic 2500 with a broken drawstring. Its mechanism (9ELB) appears to use the same components as this one. Thanks for sharing this tutorial. Daniel
Oh man, when your spring hook got stuck, and then the string was twisted around the mainspring...I had to ask myself if I were making this video :) I have a 5TE with a broken mainspring :( It's waiting for me to have more patience (and a replacement spring). Good job.
Another testimony to your patience and determination especially when things don't cooperate as is sometimes the case. If there is one major lesson to be learned from your videos it is the virtue of maintaining a focus of energy and not to be deterred by complications that almost always present themselves to vex one. You always come through and I always share your success as if I had done it myself. Very absorbing video. Mike Kirwan - Kenmore, WA
Heh... Sorry, I just couldn't help but laugh when you started dealing with that stuck spring hook. What a stupid, annoying problem to have to contend with on such a straightforward job! What's more, when you started going through the draws of your took box, it almost sounded like you were taking out a little bit of frustration off camera! Too funny! Man, I needed that today! 😁🤣😆😂
Hi phoenix typewriter, I was thinking of buying one of these machines the exact same models, smith corona 5te. And I was wondering do you know if the motors in the machine ever die? And if so is it possible to replace them? Thank you so much:)
It was a joy to see the wheel going around with the string correctly attached.

Awesome Duane.
What kind of string are you using and where do we get it?

Yes they do fail, winding burn up, bearings can wear out, but it seems to be rare
Replacement would have to come from another 5TE
