      What do you think about using 3D imaging apps like Canvas or ARPlan 3D to convert photos and videos to 3D files and then modify them? Are the type of files created by those apps able to import into Sketchup for editing?

      Hello, is there a multiple-drawing views on Sketchup that you can set to different angles front, top etc. and view at the same time ? Like in Vectorworks, Rhino, Revit?

    This is a great video. Thank you for taking the time to make it so concise. I am a complete beginner and I went from clueless to cautiously confident using this video. It did not take me 10 minutes--I spent hours replaying, slowing down the speed, and fiddling on my own--but it got me there. Thanks again!

    I cannot express how much I appreciate this video and your skill in teaching. I use very advanced softwares (TVPaint, Adobe, Blender) but STRUGGLED with Sketchup. It seemed so remarkably unintuitive (yes, that coming from an Adobe user).
    I have tried on several occasions to learn Sketchup, each time getting into a simple project, hitting a wall (no pun intended), then walking away in frustration.
    But this time with this video, you seem to teach the way I learn. You're concise, organized in thought, you provide a simple overview (faces, edges), and you show how its done.
    This time I will make this end table successfully. Then, with practice in Sketchbook, and as a woodworker, the sky will be my limit.
    Thank you, Matt.

    Day one of my introduction to Sketchup, thank you! My ultimate goal is to create a 3D model of my home by copying the original construction blueprints to my home. I think a step-by-step multi-video tutorial would be awesome! I would love to learn Sketchup step-by-step while creating my 3D home drawing. My ultimate goal once a fully detailed 3D drawing of my home is complete is to then start messing around with remodel concepts to share with my wife.

    I'm very new to using any design software and haven't done any in the last 6 months. This video really knocked the dust off and got me back in the game. It took a bit more than 10 min but not as long as other videos would have.

    • @Mastersketchup
      @Mastersketchup  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Up arrow locks the movement along the blue axis. You just tap it to engage, don't need to hold it down.
      (Make sure the group is opened for editing, you need to double-click it with the select tool to open it.)
      1. Select the perimeter edges with the Select tool while holding CTRL(Win) or Option (Mac)
      2. Activate the Move tool, click once to start moving the selected edges.
      3. Tap the up arrow, this will ensure the selected edges only move along the blue axis.
      4. Move your mouse up a little bit, to indicate which direction you intend to move the edges.
      5. Type in 1/4" ENTER.

    Really enjoyed the video. Struggled with the bevel but eventually got it. I have attempted the aprons, rails, and drawer but I don't think this tutorial set you up to be able to do those. Specifically the drawer... For the drawer I used the offset and move tool but I know that isn't the proper way. And for the drawer knob - that wasn't successful.

    Holy crap lol... I've been a "fitness guy" for over a decade, but kinda dissolutioned with the whole scene and haven't "worked out" almost at all for 4 months, since moving and stopping CrossFit coaching (part time hobby job).
    I moved from the suburbs onto about 1.6 acres and started shooting a bow, running between however many shots to and from various shooting positions. I feel like a kid again and it's a blast! Now I'm starting to integrate pullups, kettlebells, etc.
    I was into the Mobility Stick for a bit, and thought it'd be cool to start making nice hardwood staffs to develop harvesting and woodworking skills for bows. I could use them like a mobility stick and learn to Flow with them as another exercise. It all feels incredibly functional and natural - this is what our body wants to do.
    That sent me down a rabbit hole that led me to this video, an awesome collision of my new (revived from boyhood) aspirations. Excited for this new journey and love the energy of this trailblazer.

    great video - however I am stumped on getting the legs to taper! Once I create my lines to taper to it just tapers teh whole leg and ignores the lines I created. What am I doing wrong!

    • @tomnookandfather1278
      @tomnookandfather1278 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you are clicked into the leg component when you draw the lines. This will split the faces. If you aren’t clicked into the component it just draws a line and it won’t reference the taper from the line. I had the same issue and just figured it out. Good luck!

    • @Mastersketchup
      @Mastersketchup  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to open the leg component first so the edges you draw merge with the geometry inside the component. So double-click the leg component with the Select tool first, then draw the edge.

    Brand new to this, I appreciate the pace and your teaching style but nothing is working. IDK if I'm using a different version, but many of the actions are not available or don't work. I have watched/created this table over 20x, side-by-side screen to the video, following every single step and it doesn't work. EX: selecting the lines to make the bevel. No matter how many times I try it I can not select more than one line. Almost all of the commands using CTRL don't work. Probably user error but I can't see what I'm missing.

    Way too fast. I'm stuck at the bevel, watched it at least 20 times trying to see whatever it is you're calling a bevel, but the image is only up for a fraction of a second so I can't tell whether mine looks the same. Even when I pause at that spot, I don't see what it is that looks different than it did before. I'd much rather spend 15 minutes and be able to actually see what you're doing.

      i actually created a completely seperated 3d box and created a more exaggerated bevel to get it working

    I have tried and tried and i can not get the bevel! I slowed it down, so I could find where he was saying [useless things like] grab the and click here and here. I have gone back over and over again! then at the end he just says " and then you make the drawer! EEK so frustrating!!!!!

      Turns out those "useless things" I said were in fact, important! lol I'll try to break it down for you.
      1. Activate the Select tool, double-click on the table top group to open it for editing.
      2. Activate the Offset tool, click on the bottom face, move the mouse inward, type 2" ENTER.
      3. Activate the Select tool, click on each outer edge while holding the CTRL key.
      4. Activate Move tool, Click to start the move, tap the up arrow to lock the blue axis, type in 1/4" ENTER.
      Every step is important, if you miss one thing, it's not going to work.

    Cutting this down to 10 min and editing out specific clicks made it completely not helpful. I can’t figure out the bevel or the scale tool and I’m looking elsewhere after that

    Talks very fast and is hard to understand. I had to listen at 0.75x speed and still didn't fully understand. Would be a better tutorial if he didn't keep giving us facts. I just wanted to make the nightstand. Please slow down or add that at the end of the video. Other than that, excellent tutorial.

  • @KyHarvey71

    WAY too fast. move with the move tool means nothing to a complete newb. it would help to say maybe “use the space bar to change to the select tool”. the scroll wheel for me doesn’t zoom, it spins the image. making a simple table is a great way to start, but you’re flying through this

      @Mastersketchup  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I intentionally removed all redundancy. For example, I tell you how to use the Move tool at 3:06, and then any time after that I just say "move with the Move tool" to eliminate redundancy. I'll make a longer video next

    This program works almost never, super glitchyl, and none of these shortcuts work on the free version anymore which make the workflow pointlessly slow. Literally had better features 15 years ago for FREE.

    You need to effing slow the hell down. Your going way to fast for a beginner. I barely have a chance to find the next tool before you've already finished the table top. I am so freaking determined to learn this program but everyone that tries to teach it forgets that they are a pro and the people learning are beginners literally.

      For beginners but he uses a lot of advanced shortcuts and doesn’t explain fully. The scale down or tapered legs was an awful explanation on how to do it might as well just learn on your own. This guy must be a college professor, no chance he knows how to teach

    I have some 3D experience but you're speaking way too fast for me. I don't think the goal of a beginner video should be keeping it under 10 minutes (like it's a TH-cam law or something). The goal here is to teach, not to sell a used car. It should be a calm focused introductory pace so people can calmly listen, watch, digest, understand, and try. Good content -- just my opinion on pacing for tutorials...

    YOU CALLED A CHAMPHER A BEVEL - INCORRECTLY - A BEVEL GOES FROM ONE EDGE TO ANOTHER EDGE AT 45 DEGREES - A CHAMPHER ONLY CUTS THE EGDE AT 45 DEGREES AND LEAVES A SMALL FLAT SURFACE ON THE EDGE - YOU SHOULD ADJUST YOUR VIDEO TO REFLECT THE CORRECT WORDING - POOR TEACHING PRACTICE - GET IT RIGHT

    pardon me, but how on earth did you manage to only select the extruded leg, not the whole leg-tabletop thingamabob th-cam.com/video/zpdMZK6LlDE/w-d-xo.html ? When i try it, it allways picks the whole lot. And i just click it(the leg) three times, just like you did. You dont explain this anywhere in this video. Im quite mad. I keep spawning one-legged tables untill you address this point!
