When he says “I came to get Hurt” theirs such a raw feeing in his voice and in that line and follows with “might as well do your worst to me”. I’ve gone through a few heartbreaks that have changed me forever but i never found lyrics and a song that tapped deep into that raw emotion I couldn’t never express.
This one time I made a sex then I started crying. She wasn't her. :(

Seriously! I feel this song on a very personal level. Absolutely amazing song. Both in lyrics and the raw emotion Brian sings it with!
'59 Sound is their best album for a young person with hope. Get hurt is their best album for those of haven't found it yet.

I just came across this song in a random spotify playlist and it just straight out knocked me down. I've been going through maybe the roughest time in my life and dealing with serious depression, taking care of my physically disabled wife, the recent loss of both my parents, and the indifference and abandonment of friends I loved dearly. I got a good buzz on last night and was listening to music, trying to hold it together, and this song came on. It hit me like a truck and I broke down hard. Been holding tight for so long that when I finally let go it tore me to pieces. Put this song on repeat and just gave in. And when I woke up this morning I felt better. Cleaned out, relaxed, and calm with a weight I didn't realize I was carrying lifted off my shoulders. Things are still rough, and it might not last, but for right now I can see the sun and I can breath again and I can hope for better things. And if this feeling doesn't last... well... I could always come here to get hurt again.

I'm going through one of the hardest break ups I've experienced, not only was this Brian's medicine from his divorce but its been one of the only things keeping me together at a time like this. His music in general is a remedy, whether you listen to is from '59 sound's hope to get hurts sadness or the other way around moving thought the albums slowly regaining you'r hope again is one of the best feelings.
Thank you Brian for all the help you given me.

I agree. I think they're the most underrated band of the past decade but it's just more fun for us, it's our great secret.
A lot of people were ragging on this album when it came out, and I was one of the ones on the fence about it.. after seeing it live with a mix of old and new I realized that it is still gaslight, just with a different tempo , which makes sense because Brian was sad when writing this album, Himself and Holly had gotten divorced and it was a turbulent time in his life of not knowing who he was to himself. This album was his medicine. He refers to himself as I in this album. This is him opening himself up for everyone to see. Thank you Brian and all of TGA. Please come back to Minnesota soon!!

I was working working out of country when I first heard this song. I was dying to hear the first single on this album from my favourite band. Was going through a divorce at the time and heard it on the way to work. Broke my heart, love you gaslight!
‘59 Sound is the album for a young person with hope and dreams and Get Hurt is for those same people that have grown up and realize that those such things never work out.
This song is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Everything they've done up to this point has been incredible and this song falls right in line with the greatness of Gaslight. The lyrics in this song really hit home.
The video is so so good. My interpretation of it gives me goosebumps.
Fallon sings about how the person in the lyrics is in love with someone that previously hurt them and but they keep coming back, especially when they're drunk, talking to spirits on the floor and then "stumble back" into that person'a life only to get hurt again, because that hurt feels better than nothing at all. The people in the video might share similar stories and drown their sorrows in alcohol as well and then the alcohol makes them relive what they felt when they "got hurt", just like the singer.
It amazes me how Brian Fallon keeps writing the soundtrack to my life. The Gaslight Anthem is perfection!

This absolutely beautiful. A real slowburner. A friend and fellow Anthem fan shared an album teaser for my a few weeks ago and said she thought TGA had gone "mainstream" (whatever that means...like the Beatles, who were mainstream and we can all agree really sucked, right? Hashtag sarcasm). So I backhanded her and said "Quiet, hellhag! The Gaslight Anthem could record an entire album of Neil Diamond covers and they'd make it sound gritty and outstanding!"
...I totally didn't really strike my friend, but you get my drift.

I found this song after my divorce in 2017... I thought i could handle it at the time but this song made me hurt bad... Life isnt better since the divorce, it just keeps on going, thank you Gaslight Anthem for all the beautiful music...
Going through a rough break up right now and I’ve got this album on repeat.
I am so angry and devastated at the same time. I just found out about this awesome band. There are not much bands with such a great style of music left these days. After I found them, I went on to look for their next tour dates and I found out they'd split after their Europe tour in 2015. To think that I missed them... I really hope they will reunite and come perform in Europe once again!

Before listening to the TGA I never felt so strongly about an individual music artist. I look up to Brian alot and his music and the whole TGA are truly amazing. Keep on doing what you're doing because you are the best the music industry has to offer.

as, I guess, an armchair GLA fan, I have seen them once in concert and will again in November. I loved the previous albums so to my surprise was anticipating this newest instalment from them. I put the disc in the car and went for a long drive. Much to my dismay, I got back home slightly disappointed. However, and this is where I agree with the 'slowburner' comment made below. I have now listened to this album several times and it just gets better and better. Thank you GLA for enlightening my life with your music. See you in November. Cardiff.

Nothing really compares to The '59 Sound album. It's a timeless album and SO underrated! Not many people have heard of them, but even if this new album is not for you, The 59 Sound will tickle your fancy no doubt!
I find this song so touching, like it goes right into my heart. It's so nice there is music today that is honest and really talented and haunting.
The song is so great on its own, but the legs and movement of the dancer are the beauty of the night sky.

I fell asleep while watching the letterman show,but I woke up to this song when they were performing.I though I was dreaming.
The song is amazing. And I know I'm probably wrong but that location looks an awful lot like a bar in NYC called The Back Room.

Here's a verse by verse interpretation - I also think this is about Fallon's personal hurt: the divorce from his wife.
He wakes up in the morning and keeps thinking back on the times with her.
He's very open about his pain.
But every now and then he thinks back on her, especially when he's drunk
He's laying on the floor talking to God just to get that feeling again what him and his wife once shared.
And he does it on purpose because he'd rather feel the pain than nothing at all. Even if she tried to hurt him more, he is in for it. And if she's just coming back to only leave again, he's also aware of that.
He wants to start over new and move somewhere else. Life can be better far away from Jersey and he won't be so depressed anymore, because people are happier on the west coast.
And Everything that once made sense doesn't anymore. He's suffered so many kinds of pains that he can't tell which is which anymore, but he still needs to get hurt to feel.
Here he is talking to his ex-wife saying that he understands that she needed a change, or he just wasn't it for her, but he can't really explain, as it could have been her, him, just something that didn't fit.
This seems what my life has become..... Hurt after hurt... In a world that has grown cold and devoid of love, hurt is what is filling the void😢

I love the way their sound is constantly evolving but still staying true to whatever it is that hooks (most of) us long time fans. If this track is an indication this sounds like it may be a similar sound to The Horrible Crowes album, which I loved, so looking forward to this as much as ever.

This band is pretty good. I don't get how people can accuse this band of being generic or plain. A lot of bands along the Indie Rock Circuit will always be judged unless they really set a niche for themselves away from what's classified as that "Sound" associated with the genre. It's all open to interpretation and it's a matter if you like it or not. For example, the Static Jacks are a good band, but clearly they sound like a bite off of the Strokes. Fortunately for the Static Jacks, they have a good fanbase, despite. I've seen people accuse American Authors to be a bite off of "generic indie rock". Still, these guys are I guess I can say not completely original with their sound, per se, but their music is good. Their vocalist is a good singer. They sound well played. The substance of their music is sound. So I wish these guys well and I'll probably actually buy their albums in the very near future.
