Lyrics:
Mary, this station is playing every sad song.
I remember like we were alive.
I heard it Sunday morn' from inside of these walls.
In a prison cell, where we spent those nights.
And they burnt up the diner where I always used to find her.
Licking young boys blood from her claws.
And I learned about the blues from this kitten I knew.
Her hair was raven and her heart was like a tomb.
My heart's like a wound.
I saw tail lights last night in a dream about my first wife.
Everybody leaves and I'd expect as much from you.
I saw tail lights last night in a dream about my old life.
Everybody leaves, so why, why wouldn't you?
Mary, I worried and stalled every night of my life.
Better safe than making the party.
And I never had a good time, I sat by my bedside, with papers and poetry about Estella.
Great expectations, we had the greatest expectations.
I saw tail lights last night In a dream about my first wife.
Everybody leaves and I'd expect as much from you.
I saw tail lights last night in a dream about my old life.
Everybody leaves, so why, why wouldn't you?
It's funny how the night moves.
Humming a song from 1962.
We were always waiting... always waiting.
We were always waiting for something to happen.
I saw tail lights last night In a dream about my first wife.
Everybody leaves and I'd expect as much from you.
I saw tail lights last night in a dream about my whole life.
Everybody leaves, so why, why wouldn't you?

I used to play this record at the end of the night in the kitchen every close, and once I put this song even wait staff knew the night was over.
My mom loved Brian Fallon and all his songs he sang, still miss her and listening to Brian Fallon and gaslight anthem remind me of her
God bless you!
My mom was the one that actually turned me on to Gaslight. Here’s to moms with great taste!
God be with you child 🙏🏼✊🏼
Same here that's my mom's shit thats why I jam to it so much
I hope Gaslight Anthem comforts my kids someday.
"everybody leaves, so why, why wouldnt you?" hits me like a truck.

That lyric always rings deep for people with abandoned issues.
My 4th grade teacher, Mr. Shannon, used to play this song when we were doing silent work sometimes. I shit you not, after months of hearing this, at least half the class was singing and humming along. 13 years later and it stays on my playlist.
Brian Fallon is the best songwriter to come out of America in years! Criminally underrated! Come to Scotland please!!!
Agreed 100%. By far my favorite artist.

It's like if Bruce Springsteen was like "So hey, I'm gonna make some music" but started now

Still a Gaslight Anthem fan after all these years.
I got to see Gaslight Anthem on both Boston dates of the 59' Sound 10th Anniversary tour. I'd give anything to relive those two nights.
LUCKY!!!!
I was there both nights too! Those shows were amazing.
I was there the first night. Incredible! I saw them last summer in Portland. Still sound great!
@@copywriter2001 caught em again at riot fest last year. They brought out Deanna from sincere engineer to do 59 sound. Mental.
No band has ever quite touched me like this one
You should listen to New Model Army.
@@gregmalcolm6798 I'll give them a listen
There is no getting sick of this song
This is the first song I heard by The Gaslight Anthem, about a year ago. I always seem to come back to them, because their songs are simply phenomenal.
today in my math class, some stoner kid saw my streetlight manifesto shirt and directed me to this band. i'm glad for stoners.
I wonder where he is today...
@@AustinTehSkwurlCurry Still in that same math class. Getting high and telling kids about this band.

You are the prettiest girl that I've have seen in a looooong time... Just thought you'd like to know.
Not only are these guys fantastic musicians but they are by far the most talented songwriters in the music industry today. That often goes overlooked.
Whats so good about the Gaslight is that there is not just one great album. No matter who you ask everyone has a different answer.
It's amazing this group is not even known in my country, Spain! I'm showing their songs to all my friends and we're all becoming fans!
I bought this CD in january and it still is in heavy rotation in my car, my stereo, my ipod, everywhere...took me a few listens to really get them, but they are soulful, moody, nostalgic and refreshing all at once. Amazing band, with a subtle but extremely distinct personality.
This is a true "time capsule" comment right here. Awesome!
Still listening to it, and I guess I will so in 20 years.
A masterpiece!!!
played this on repeat while I was barely conscious in a hospital bed in early high school, will be forever grateful for this band ❤️
Quarantine dance party continues.
I'm working my way through each of their albums. I finished Sink or Swim and I'm about to start the '59 Sound. I think this is already one of my favorite songs by them.
just wait there'll be more
They're on hiatus.
Thats what i meant

Saw them in Concert on Saturday.
I was so humbled to be in their presence. They are God's gift to music!!
I love all of their albums but…The ‘59 Sound and American Slang are absolute masterpieces. Two of the best albums I’ve heard in the last 20 plus years. Broke my heart that they called it quits.
but they’re baaaaaaack
This takes me back to 2008: driving my truck, this album playing on the radio, on my way to class. Not a care in the world. Oh how the world and our lives changed since. Thank you, Brian, Benny, Alex R. and Alex L.

I remember playing World at War with my laptop to Indy 103.1 in LA playing on itunes radio and this song came on. made the decision to go to Amoeba the next day after about 30 seconds.
His voice just makes me want to cry. I don't know what it is, but it does. And I love it. I haven't heard many of their songs yet, but what I have heard, I absolutely love. :')
feel the same way and im 63, I only listen to anything Brian Fallon related or anything he might suggest, Sad I know but true :-)
My Brother introduced me to these guys! Rest in Peace Robert. It's only been 2 years and it still feels like yesterday.
I miss high school days. not school, just being young
I was first introduced to this band when the '59 sound was released. Little did I know then that I had been gaslit my whole life by my family. Seems very appropriate now!
i've never fell in love with a band so quickly as i have with the gaslight anthem. i remember the first time i heard this song i was hooked. they're the ones that will bring back classic rock...none of this power-pop electronica or deathcore crap that people have been mass producing.
My buddy showed me Miles Davis & The Cool recently. Now I can't stop listening to the album every song is incredible. I guess better late than never.
That chorus is soo darn good
brilliant song, anybody else love the "be my baby" drum beat at the end ? i love little details in songs like that.
Wouldn't that be the song from 1962....how far off I sat and wondered.
I just heard this song for the first time. The goosebumps are still there 3 minutes later.
Not only is the song great, Brian's not looking too bad there himself.
What a great song. What a great band.
The first time I heard this I thought they uncovered an old track of Springsteen jamming with the Ramones.
Had this song constantly on repeat when possible. Definitely do not regret it, one of the better songs amongst others
Holy shit this is gold
Mom is asking to me -are you gonna listen that song all day again?
These guys are far to unknown for as good as they are
i love this band...they have a hint of nostalgia in there sound...
im 20 yrs old and from ga
im bearly old enough to feel nostalgic about anything.. but somehow they make me feel that way.. it's weird
Guess now you are old enough for a little nostalgia...
It does seem weird kind of like that deja vu feeling we sometimes get but I remember having that same feeling of nostalgia when hearing certain songs as a kid. I think it's something innate in us, within some of us more than others maybe. Not sure how to explain it as I don't really believe in us living multiple lifetimes but who really knows? Anyhow, cheers and yep Gaslight Anthem is great!
GLA One of the GREATS!!
this is a great song
"My heart is like a wound"
Great line.
Great song.
Great band.
they back
Still listening to this gem.
What I wouldn’t give for gas light anthem to play at my wedding... I love it so much.
Time to come to Atlanta guys
I'm from London and i love the gaslight anthem, A radio station called xfm played one of there songs about 10 years ago and ive loved them ever since. They are not known over here, fuck knows why, they are class 🇬🇧
Always liked everything I had ever heard by these guys. Finally own the entire discography and listen to the albums all the time. Fantastic and amazing band!
Drove around my old neighborhood last night blasting this
This is why I still live in this house. Jeremy, we had the greatest expectations.
Gaslight anthem is the best
to get back to the subject at hand...wow. the passion, the lyrics, the skill, the sound...it is all there. damn, just look at them go.
Man, I just started listening to these guys, and I already love it. I love how they blend an old school sound with a new school feel. A+
definitely my favorite gaslight anthem song..i love the lyrics of this song the music brian's voice.. everything is just perfect
"I never had a good time, I sat by my bedside, with papers and poetry about Estella." Even the greatest modern music quote is a reference. Nothing new under the Sun? Maybe. But, there's nothing old about being young and heartbroken.
Ive been listening to the 59 sound album for a year now, nearly every week its on.brilliant album.
"Everybody leaves so why wouldn't you."
Sometimes I feel like Brian is writing songs just for me.
My new favourite song, repeat, repeat, repeat!
Nathan Clews Same!
Did anyone catch that Bob Seger nod with that Night Moves line?! What a fucking legend of a dude Fallon is
Holy shit... I grew up listening to my mom blast Bruce Springsteen in the car. And now, hearing these guys for the very first time, this guy's voice is eerily similar to Bruce's. And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. This is so surreal. I love it. I'm going to be listening to this band a lot in the future, I suspect.
It's what we all thought when this came out back then. It's good
the first time i ever even heard of them was when my friend bought me a ticket. im so hooked. i could listen to this album over and over again for weeks on end and never get sick of a single second of it! so much heart goes into their music.
One of the very best songs EVER written.
AWESOME
Looking forward to you guys coming to Saarbrücken!
Brian Fallon is a lyrical genius.
Simple and meaningful.
I agree, I like that they generally make a lot of references because it shows their appreciation fot the classics...
Love this band so much, this song is awesome and makes me think of my husband. we discovered this band at leeds festival 2009 and still listen now
Same!! Great band!!
I already miss this record too much..... this sound the emotion everything...
@SoulMaker i was a huge gaslight fan but i became an even bigger fan after seeing them live a few years ago at leeds fest. stole the festival for me like. such a great live band. even cowgirls get the blues is my favourite song for them to sing live. amazing. jealous you got to see them last week.
I can't stop listening to this song over and over again!
I've moshed to this! no idea why it happened, and should never be done with how light this band is, but it was amazing
The moment I would most like to relive is when I heard Great Expectations for the first time.
Oh i’d love that!!
both bands are amazing playing live
Just got back from bayou music center and saw them oh my GOD they are my favorite band ever so consist with sounding same live and on the album
I saw them in Clifton Park NY on Monday and they were phenomenal. One of my favorite bands ever

That. That right there is when I fell in love with Brian Fallon.
***** Brian is my absolute man crush.

Saaaame. I'm a dude and I got wet.
Boom - pregnant
hahha he does that a lot in their videos :D
Genius. America owns music.
Still listening in 2018!
reading festival 2012!! gaslight are massively underrated
Best song by the band, easy
this band is so awesome
they seem so passionate about their own music
I've known this song for years and I finally found someone who would've loved it as much as I do. Too bad he left before I could send it to him lmfao
Awesome. Awesome band. firstsaw on Christmas playing with Springsteen on 59 SOund.
Converted instantly. brilliant.
Guy writes a song like a 45 year old ... I guess that kid's had a full life for his young years... awesome tune
I absolutely love this song, and all of their other songs.
Especially "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" :]
his voice is soooo good.
I've seen these guys live twice, and will do again in July. they are quite simply the best thing that happened to me in 2008. Quite simply my fav band (and I'm not the sort of person who usually gets all fanboy about anything)
Yeah. I watched this on MTV play list too. And Now I know all about this group. Go figure!
God what a great song!❤
Dreams about my old life.......
fantastic song, so much depth
Awesome!
Great song!!!!
this song it makes me feel... i cant describe it
