Something similar happened in Utah, a parent complained about the Bible so they banned it... for like a few hours until the governor just said like "no, this one doesn't count!" and unbanned it 😒
About twenty years ago, my children went to a school in the U.A.E. where books were heavily censored. Because the country was Muslim, children's books were heavily blacked out. All the words for "pig" were blacked out in The Three Little Pigs. Anytime "wine" was in a book, it was blacked out and replaced with "orange juice." Instead of growing up with innocence, children were growing up with ignorance. Such a sad situation!
Which is insane btw, the religion bans the consumption of pork and alcohol it's not telling the followers to pretend they don't exist, but the U.A.E is authoritarian so the upper echelons will invent something to rally against just so their citizens don't ask the real questions. That behavior is what we're headed towards if guys like DeSantis get their way.
Muslims consider the pig unclean because of what they eat among other reasons. They eat carrion including humans and they're coprophages. It would not surprise me if the Arabic word for pig is considered a swear word.
I lived in a Muslim country and nobody had ever heard of the invention of movable type as a breakthrough in technology. Apparently, this is because the first book printed with this earth shaking technology change was the Gutenberg Bible.
That explains why there is rarely any innovation nor cultural influence coming from theocratic radical countries. They will NEVER prosper while living in ignorance.
When Trump refused to say what his favorite bible verse was it wasn't because he couldn't think of one, it was because his favorite was the one where Lott gets it on with his own daughters.
You give him too much credit. It would be his favourite part if he knew of its existence. He hasn't read a single page of that book. Willing to bet that he couldn't even cite the ten commandments, let alone any one bible verse.
He's never read it. He was hawking bibles at Easter but never set foot in a church. Evangelicals are deranged hypocrites. They wonder why their "faith" is being attacked? Conflating Trump with Jesus is blasphemy. If there was a hell, they'd all have first class tickets.
He can't use the uplifting ones because they tend to be inclusive. And the other stuff tends to support his position but is hateful and immoral. Also, he would probably prefer the verse saying; saving the young girls that have not known a man for yourselves (numbers 31:18).
Teaching kids that they'll go to hell and God will make them suffer forever if they misbehave is child abuse. That shit traumatizes kids with constant anxiety.

Yay for malicious compliance! As an atheist myself, I have no issue with having The Bible in a public school, but ONLY if the curricula include studies of all the major religious texts.
As a Christian myself, I think a good working knowledge of major world religions past and present is absolutely critical. You can't understand history or literature if you are unfamiliar with the religious context that surrounds them and the religion I happen to prescribe to is not the only one influential enough to study.
I am not that strict. If the bible is in the library then so should the other regligious texts. Only if the bible is part of the curricula should the other religious texts also be part of the curricula .

@@wuxin5847 No library (school or otherwise) can contain "all books. A school library should focus on books that support or expand on the curriculum and/or advance children's education in other an age appropriate way. In order be effecient with the budget, a school library should also focus on books their students might find hard to access by other means (a good book on calculus or programming can easily cost more than 100$). If there's some money and space left after that's cared for, use the surplus to get some books children might read for fun. The separation of church and state says that publically funded schools are not supposed to establish any religion. Which means: Religion has no place on their curriculum. There are organisations that give away printed copies of the bible for free - which makes the bible the most easily accessible book. On top of that: The people who are the loudest about making sure the bible exists in school libraries, tend to own more bibles per capita than others. So their children don't need the school library to have access to the bible. They have at least one at home they could pick up any time.

Any outspoken atheist would have brought that up. You don’t have to be an extreme advocate to understand that the Bible shouldn’t be allowed in schools under any circumstances. The only way the Bible should be allowed is if all other religious books have the same coverage. Let’s see how far that gets.
No because other texts DID NOT HAVE AS MUCH INFLUENCE ON THE HISTORY OF AMERICA and the culture of America. Plain and simple. That's like we saying we should teach all languages outside of English because we want to be inclusive.
@@rs72098 If you can’t have inclusivity and education for most religions then you don’t have it in schools period. Also, Mormonism was founded in America; I have never seen both the Bible and the Book of Mormon in the same room. You teach mythology/theology as a whole, not by indoctrination.
@@rs72098 The influence on the History of America is irrelevant. Either religion should be on the curriculum - in which case the fundamentals of all religions should be taught, in which case the school library should contain the sacred texts of all religions - or religion should not be on the curriculum in which case none of their texts should be in the library either. Also: The world extends beyond America. People should have at least a fundamental grasp of the entire world's history when they finish school - which includes the influence Islam, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and all the other religions had on the histories of the places they were or still are dominant. Foreign languages aren't taught "to be inclusive", they're taught because learning a foreign language greatly extends one's horizon, which goes very far in achieving the core goal of education: Replacing an empty mind with an open one. For that reason everyone should be fluent in at least one foreign language after they graduate from school.

And DeSantis recently signed a bill that bans children from using social media. Over 16 can use it with parental permission, but under 16s are banned. This from a man who claimed that his book ban was to give _parents_ more autonomy on what their children are exposed to. So he steps in and tells _parents_ that they cannot allow their children under 16 access to social media. If I had young children (mine are grown) I probably wouldn’t want them to be on social media because of the problems it can cause, but I don’t have the right to tell my neighbors that _they_ can’t allow _their_ children access. 🤷🏼♀️ Yet DeSantis, who has touted parental rights in his bid for political power, has no qualms about it.

These 6 people are wasting our time and money, and we're just letting them do it. So sad.
Correction, Republicans are letting them do it.
Desantis is slowing them down. Not sure if the bible has anything to do with all this, takes them 5 seconds to say your offense is noted but we keep the bible.
Something similar happened in Utah, a parent complained about the Bible so they banned it... for like a few hours until the governor just said like "no, this one doesn't count!" and unbanned it 😒
How about the book of Mormon?

@@JasperBaron-z1dThey added the BOM too but the Gov stepped in 🤦🏼♀️ I was soo disappointed 👿👿
The Mormon Church has a pretty good stranglehold on the Utah state legislature, I’ve heard it called a de facto theocracy
Back in the 70's they didn't give a sh!t. What was in the library in schools. And I was in 7th grade.

@@wuxin5847 No library (school or otherwise) can contain "all books. A school library should focus on books that support or expand on the curriculum and/or advance children's education in other an age appropriate way.

Age of majority is 18 in Florida with some exceptions. You must be 21 to purchase alcohol and cigarettes. Consensual sexual activity is 16 unless one party is over 23 and at 16 the child can request emancipation which means that the child is basically no longer under parental supervision.
