    When I was younger and worked in a library, we had a woman bring in a book, throw it on the desk and proclaim loudly that she had had to read the book three times to CIRCLE in RED every bad word, totally defacing the book. "How can you have such filth in this library ? I had to read it three times to get all the filth marked." I laughed as my boss looked over the book, but then I have the sense of humor of a seventh grade boy. He charged her for defacing the book...btw, it was one of those steamy, Fabio cover romance novels. He also confiscated her library card and banned her from using the library. @@wuxin5847 No library (school or otherwise) can contain "all books. A school library should focus on books that support or expand on the curriculum and/or advance children's education in other an age appropriate way. In order be effecient with the budget, a school library should also focus on books their students might find hard to access by other means (a good book on calculus or programming can easily cost more than 100$). If there's some money and space left after that's cared for, use the surplus to get some books children might read for fun.
      The separation of church and state says that publically funded schools are not supposed to establish any religion. Which means: Religion has no place on their curriculum. There are organisations that give away printed copies of the bible for free - which makes the bible the most easily accessible book. On top of that: The people who are the loudest about making sure the bible exists in school libraries, tend to own more bibles per capita than others. So their children don't need the school library to have access to the bible. They have at least one at home they could pick up any time.

Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Orange, etc...they all had them. And even after the counties lifted them, nearly every retailer imposed their own mandates. you couldn't go almost anywhere indoors in the state without a mask, into 2021.

    Any outspoken atheist would have brought that up. You don’t have to be an extreme advocate to understand that the Bible shouldn’t be allowed in schools under any circumstances.
    The only way the Bible should be allowed is if all other religious books have the same coverage. Let’s see how far that gets.

    • @rs72098
      @rs72098 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No because other texts DID NOT HAVE AS MUCH INFLUENCE ON THE HISTORY OF AMERICA and the culture of America. Plain and simple. That's like we saying we should teach all languages outside of English because we want to be inclusive.

      @@rs72098 If you can’t have inclusivity and education for most religions then you don’t have it in schools period. Also, Mormonism was founded in America; I have never seen both the Bible and the Book of Mormon in the same room. You teach mythology/theology as a whole, not by indoctrination.

    • @MrAranton
      @MrAranton 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rs72098 The influence on the History of America is irrelevant. Either religion should be on the curriculum - in which case the fundamentals of all religions should be taught, in which case the school library should contain the sacred texts of all religions - or religion should not be on the curriculum in which case none of their texts should be in the library either.
      Also: The world extends beyond America. People should have at least a fundamental grasp of the entire world's history when they finish school - which includes the influence Islam, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and all the other religions had on the histories of the places they were or still are dominant.
      Foreign languages aren't taught "to be inclusive", they're taught because learning a foreign language greatly extends one's horizon, which goes very far in achieving the core goal of education: Replacing an empty mind with an open one. For that reason everyone should be fluent in at least one foreign language after they graduate from school.

    And DeSantis recently signed a bill that bans children from using social media. Over 16 can use it with parental permission, but under 16s are banned. This from a man who claimed that his book ban was to give _parents_ more autonomy on what their children are exposed to. So he steps in and tells _parents_ that they cannot allow their children under 16 access to social media. If I had young children (mine are grown) I probably wouldn’t want them to be on social media because of the problems it can cause, but I don’t have the right to tell my neighbors that _they_ can’t allow _their_ children access. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Yet DeSantis, who has touted parental rights in his bid for political power, has no qualms about it.

      Over 26? What is the legal age in Florida?
      This reminds me of my father, who was Ron DeSantis and Archie Bunker rolled into one. When I was 16 he was still trying to dictate what kind of haircut I was going to get. Exact quote "You're going to have your FUCKING hair off your fucking COLLAR AND YOUR fucking EARS until you're FUCKING 40!" That turned out well.

    • @beverly719

      Age of majority is 18 in Florida with some exceptions. You must be 21 to purchase alcohol and cigarettes. Consensual sexual activity is 16 unless one party is over 23 and at 16 the child can request emancipation which means that the child is basically no longer under parental supervision.
      The hair thing isn’t unfamiliar to me. I’m in my 70s and there were many guys who had that conversation with their parents back then. 😉 My son ran into that in the 90s over a job…hair couldn’t touch the collar of his shirt and his manager was going to cut his hair off. Not long after that the place he worked allowed young men to wear their hair long, but had to tie it back. 🤷🏼‍♀️✌️
