Dude, there are other people who talk about comics on TH-cam, but they can't even come close to your ability to tell an amazing story. You are a consummate story teller. When I watch your videos I feel like I'm watching a movie. I wouldn't call myself a comic nerd, but since I was a kid, I wanted to be a superhero and at 55, if I had the ability to develop powers (preferably Superman or at least Power Man-I'd seriously want some kind of invulnerability, smile) I'd jump at the chance. I can always get up to date and get clear on things I don't understand about certain story arcs. You are simply fun to listen to. Thanks!
My jaw just dropped at the end of the video, Rob. I don't know how to feel about this but I'm so sad for Diana (Wonder Woman). PLEASE do Wonder Woman Year One when it gets done
J. Patrick Pote I always feel a little bad when I introduce people to anime because I know that it's kinda like a disease in that it will take up a lot of your time and will change you. like if you finish an anime ur like, fuuuuuck. gotta start a new one. is it like that for you guys when you get someone started on comics
justAguyDs Haha yeah I feel it. last anime I finished was Your Lie in April and I haven't been able to finish another one since lol. I'd say it's similar with comics. The wait between issues is excruciating so having another that comes out while you wait is helpful. I'm waiting for the newest Saga volumes at the moment along with the next Walking Dead compendium at the moment.
Love these longer, more in depth videos. The WWH series was perfect length for each video was just right. You're like the history channel for comic books....... well the old history channel before all the reality shows.
Just came across your Wonder Woman rebirth explanation...I love it. Wonder Woman is my favorite comic character and until rebirth, the GEORGE PEREZ WONDER WOMAN was my Wonder Woman. I agree with you that Rucka is doing an amazing job with one of the greatest comic book heroes ever. I have loved every issue and you have done a brilliant job of bringing everything full circle. Really enjoyed your video. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching your other offerings.
Hey, Rob! Lifelong comics fan here, son of a first generation Wonder Woman booster (my mom is about to turn 84 and she was there from the very beginning), and former alumnus of the Marvel Bullpen (1990-1998) and DC/Vertigo (1999-2003), so you could say I have a long involvement with comics, both personally and professionally. With that said, I began seriously reading comics when I was seven (I'm 51 now) and got my early grounding in the lore of comics from countless reprints that both Marvel and DC were cranking out at the time (early through late-1970's). It was a great time in which to be a budding comics geek, and those reprints allowed me to see the evolution of iconic characters and how they grew and changed with our culture over the decades. I mention all of this in order to make it clear that I am deeply immersed in U.S. comics history, sometimes perhaps too deeply, so I can recall a lot of historical details that have been glossed over, forgotten, or never encountered by readers of a younger vintage. Which is a longwinded way of getting around to this specific point: Regarding Hippolyta never having been blonde prior to this arc, such is not the case. When Hippolyta was seen during the earliest years of Wonder Woman stories, she was indeed a brunette, but sometime around the 1950's she was depicted as blonde - perhaps most famously by artist Ross Andru - and she remained that way until the Perez reboot of the mid-1980's, with her returning as a blonde during the New 52 run. A few images of the blonde version can be found if you Google "Hippolyta Ross Andru" or "Hippolyta Cliff Chiang." Anyway, your channel is exceptional in every way and I check in every day. You do fandom proud and I am relieved to know that there are fans like you out there who discuss the art form that we love with so much care and genuine passion. KEEP IT COMING.
Omar13Z ... indeed yes i remember there have been a blond Hippolyta in the Comics in the pass also in. fact in the DC Wonder Woman Cartoon movie and the Wonder Woman Movie, Hippolyta have been blond. Well ...he did say he didnt like to read Wonder Woman old stories so it's something he might never knew or failed to remember
Rob ... Ur passion for comics feels so nice ... I haven't heard or met anybody as passionate for comic books as u in this video ! It's great and refreshing ... Please keep up the wonderful videos !
+comicsexplained You have to remember that Darkseid war takes place a few months before the arc where Superman lost his powers. This was shown as one of three events that led to his cellular breakdown during his last days arc. So yes, a long time would've passed since Diana last contacted Steve.
yeah i agree and i know in the Action Comics they are continuing the Luther being the leader of Apokolips at the end of Darkseid War and Luther potentially becoming the new Darkseid. so all this retcon is mostly with Cheetah, Trevor, and Wonder Womans origin I believe Wonder Woman and Trevor was there during the last days of Superman as well when Superman fought Vandal Savage. At that point Trevor was part of Argus. If i remember correctly it was Trevor who help Superman poison himself with kryptonite. In any case we will have to see what they do change in this Wonder Woman Rebirth with them both. Greg might just say that was still all true cuz we all know that Rebirth is just a continuation of New52 with a new focus on character driven stories and more upbeat
YES! Rob i'm sorry but you have made a mistake, it was made clear that the darkside wars had already happened when alot of other comic arcs where going on so they didn't wash away DCU stories. gordan bats still happened and diana and steve know each other
Probably my favorite era of Wonder Woman was the post-Crisis revamp in the late 80's. That being said, Greg Rucka is doing awesome things with a character that for the last few years has either just been there, or existed to be Superman's girlfriend, which is a huge disservice to be characters. I trust Greg because he's a great writer and has never let m down. And doesn't rely on lazy writing to get by. That man can work!
marco39120 I gotta disagree. If you read that story. And keep in mind what else happened. It was beautiful man. You knew Batman(Bruce) was coming back and that story made his comeback great. I know a lot of old fans hated new 52 but stories like this is what got me into DC.
I love this! Man I've always been a Wonder Woman fan but I really never enjoyed her stories and mostly who was drawing her, I'm exited for this new change in her story.
your storytelling is great. pacing, sidebars, relative info, insight from other stories are all spot on. i just watched this as well as the Spider-Man Punches Hulk into Orbit episode. very comprehensive and i really enjoyed the bit about the Spider-Mobile that Human Torch designed for Parker juxtaposed into the story and explains the current conflict between the two.
Rucka's awesome. He was his best on Detective Comics back in around 99-00 when I was just a kid first gettin into Comics/DC and the DCAU altogether that we all grew up with.... and yea dude, Paul Dini, Scott Snyder, Geoff Johns, Pete Tomasi, and Dan Jurgens, anything they write I'm on it.... Paul Dini's THEE best writer there is IMO, he's the one that made the Batman and Superman that defined the modern DCU that we all know and love with 'Superman: the animated series' and 'Batman: the animated series' .... He was doing those AND writing their actual comics too, which were the best Superman n Batman Comics of the 90s, HE is the best there is/was.... But, nowadays it's all about Scott Snyder on Batman and then Geoff Johns or Pete Tomasi on Superman... But either way - those dudes - ANYthing they're comin out with it's most likely gona be good........Snyder on Batman and Tomasi on Batman & Robin were awesome in The New52, both of em were written perfectly, especially Snyder on Batman... It's easily the best Batman SINCE Dini's... But right Now, here in Rebirth; Pete Tomasi is writing better than ANYbody... Cuz Superman is Killin' everything right now hands down best thing of Rebirth. And Yes dude, Superman/Wonder Woman WAS "way too easy" , Wonder Woman is supposed to be with ole' Steve... But IF she's with one of the heroes, it is SUPPOSED to be Batman... NOT Supes.
The way he wrapped these 4 story arcs up was amazing...can't wait for the video on that. I know everyone is in awe of her movie right now, but her best story is being told by Rucka.
I get your frustration of having two different storylines happening at the same time. Personally I like it as the art stays consistent throughout the whole story and allows the artist to make the story their own
First video i saw on the channel and subscribed off the strength. I review Wonder Woman for Black Nerd Problems and yeah man. It's more than safe to say Greg Rucka is doing the lawd's work with this series.
Problem for Wonder Woman is that she doesn't usually age. Steve does. That's why I like the stories where they keep Steve in the 40s, so we can see her react to old Steve. Also Bruce and Diana> Clark and Diana, but they both still have the aging issue.
blackmage665 WW pretty "perfect" herself, so I don't know what to say there. But no, I don't think Bruce or Clark are the most engaging ships. But Bruce's is far superior.
"it's the perfect relationship. They can both fly. They both have super strength. What problem could there really be in their relationship?" ... This is the most comic book nerd statement I've ever heard in my life.
I never ever cared about wonder woman, but I admit ,the twist at the end was a masterpiece ! It's this type of stories and plots that attract real comic book lovers ! Thanks Rob . From now onwards I'd have to keep an eye on wonder woman!
Hey Rob, I just want to say that your channel is AWESOME! I found and subsequently "cut a swath" through the Hulk, Infinity Gauntlet, and Walking dead playlists you have, and am now tearing through the DC stuff. Its really impressive how your putting material up everyday, and how all of your material does such a great job of summarizing the major story telling strokes. Keep up the great work!
I have a love/hate relationship with this. On the one hand, the writing is phenomenal, the artwork is gorgeous and the story is really well done. That giant plot twist is crazy. Even though I like how the plot twist was done, I'm not so sure I actually like the plot twist itself. Rucka is essentially retconning her entire history, or at least leaving the option there. I'm sure how I feel about him making basically everything since she first left Themyscira a "lie." How much of it actually happened? Did any of it happen? Is everything since Perez a "lie?"
I adore the retcon Rucka is doing with Diana's origin story, the new 52 absolutely shit on what Wonder Woman and the Amazons were created to be. I trust Rucka and his deep love and appreciation with Diana and her world. Also, I love that Rucka acknowledges Diana's bisexuality.
The "Wonder Woman, where do you want to go for dinner?" "I don't know" dialogue would force me back into my comic book addiction ! I'd buy a ton of those comics!
Rob, if u think WonderWoman and Superman wouldn't bicker, u really need to read/review their n52 title. (There's a dinner scene in Vol3 that's quite hilarious.) The run itself was pretty damn awesome!
Rob, Could you do more videos on Wonder Woman? This was an awesome story and I want to start getting my younger sister into comics. Obviously you don't have to limit it to Wonder Woman, just some strong female characters to draw my sister into the stories.
I ship Superman and Wonder Woman. I've always shipped them together; it just felt right. I loved their relationship in the New 52, but since New 52-Superman is gone, I'd have Wonder Woman with Steve Trevor.
i agree! Wonder woman and superman are too easy,, Wonder woman and Steve Trevor feels more real and more in depth with the romance.. I can't wait for issue 14 of Wonder Woman Rebirth..
I've been really enjoying this too. Not really a longtime Wonder Woman reader, though I've always liked her in other titles like JLA. Rucka writing this is what got me to pick it up. If you like Rucka's writing writing and you're not reading Lazarus, you're doing comics wrong? Something like that. Lazarus is frikkin' awesome. Also check out the run he did on Punisher in...2010? It's excellent. For any new people that are enjoying Wonder Woman, I would recommend the amazing Promethea by Alan Moore and J.H. Williams III. It's like a crazy meta-Wonder Woman sort of deal, wonderfully written, tremendously trippy and beautiful art. It's pretty deep stuff.
I just gotta say I understand why a lot of old fans hated what new 52 did. However New 52 really got me into DC besides the animated series. I loved all of of it. Everything from Shazam and AquaMan to Supergirl and Teen Titans. And don't even get me started on Flash and Wonder Women. It even got me to like Superman. I never did like old Superman. New 52 though man....
That feeling of having a word on the tip of your tongue but not being able to remember it is "lethologica". One of my favorite words! And I can always remember it. LOL
FREAKING HUGE Wonder-Woman-Fan., my personal favorite version of her was the Pre-Crisis-On-Infinte-Earth version., the Silver-&-Bronze-Age ones., also I really., really., really., really., really., realy., love the 70's Wonder-Woman TV Show with Lynda-Carter and Lyle Waggoner.,,.
Am I the only person that didn't know that there was a celestial in Guardians of the Galaxy? I just thought it was a giant killer robot till I started to watch this channel.
whats good rob. can you please do a untold truth about the first black captain america. i think its needed. and i dont know why no one ever mentions him. fyi his name is isaiah bradley
I don't know, this has some interesting parts that I like but overall, I think I prefer Azzarello's New 52 run. But I guess it's too early to call it though.
I highly doubt they're saying the darkseid war never happened. Esp. With Baby darkseid and frail showing up in rebirth. And batman rebirth #1 addressed the duke issue and him dying. Also, the three jokers from darkseid war is a big rebirth plot point. The darkseid war led directly into rebirth.
I'm a huge Wonder Woman fan she my number one comic book character of all time tied with Harley I read all of Wonder from good to bad and always stuck with her even during the bad writing that how much of a fan I was I still I'm
I didn't know Greg Rucka was wriitng for Wonder Woman! I love Greg Rucka! Lazarus is insane and I loved Queen and Country. Whiteout was really good too!
I think the only reason people ship Batman and Wonder Woman is the Justice League cartoon. I know this because I used to ship Bats and Wondes for that reason. But after reading their comics, I just don't see that relationship working. And the Superman/Wonder Woman thing had been done to death and it ran it's course in the New 52(although I did find it kind of fun at times). Personally I think the heroes dating heroes is more often a bad idea as there is a risk of one overshadowing the other and you only get a few situations where it actually works out.
So now someone needs to answer the question of where Themyscira is, since its too cruel to prevent Wonder Women form ever going home, when all she has been given are false Themysciras to go to.
Love your videos! Have you done one on underrated characters or teams? Any you would like to see more on the big screen or in comics in general? My personal favorite is Agents of Atlas. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Keep it up!
Damn Rob, I'm with you on your original interest in Wonder Woman, but God Damn if you didn't make her interesting beyond compare (compared to what I thought already) in 1 episode. *_Well done!_*
Loved this arc the only thing I hate is that Veronica Cale is the main villain! Never really cared for her but other than that this arc was perfection!
Great video, I too was pleasantly surprised with how much I actually liked it. Wonder Woman always seemed so boring, not a lot under the surface, this was not that. Have you done a deathstroke video yet? I wasn't sure how I was gonna feel about his comic series but it is awesome, might be the best writing in rebirth so far. It's a fun read, the fact he is a villain just leaves you with so many options/possibilities from one panel to the next. Where with a superman you just know certain things won't, can't, happen, the deathstroke is a complete wild card.
soooooooooooo I kinda feel like we need a reaction video to the new guardians of the galaxy 2 trailer because it's AMAZING!!! (ROB'S VOICE) lol and slightly off subject what was your first video? just had that random thought!
Michael Wayman for sure there are a million more logical storyline choices. it's more a matter of a unique option with a stark contrast in character that we've never really seen.
It's now official I'm going to start reading Wonder Woman

My jaw just dropped at the end of the video, Rob. I don't know how to feel about this but I'm so sad for Diana (Wonder Woman). PLEASE do Wonder Woman Year One when it gets done
This really is such a great run. I talked one of my classmates into starting the new series and she has both volumes on pre-order now lol
Introducing new people to comics! +1 for you! XD
J. Patrick Pote I always feel a little bad when I introduce people to anime because I know that it's kinda like a disease in that it will take up a lot of your time and will change you. like if you finish an anime ur like, fuuuuuck. gotta start a new one. is it like that for you guys when you get someone started on comics

Love these longer, more in depth videos. The WWH series was perfect length for each video was just right. You're like the history channel for comic books....... well the old history channel before all the reality shows.
Terrance Trainor I second that. I really like the longer, more in depth videos. WWH videos were great!
Terrance Trainor The history channel has reality shows now? Dear God.
The Dark Specter Yeah... It's dead now
Just came across your Wonder Woman rebirth explanation...I love it. Wonder Woman is my favorite comic character and until rebirth, the GEORGE PEREZ WONDER WOMAN was my Wonder Woman. Wondie always need some love. She's one of my favorites.
Actually during the Pérez era Etta Candy and Steve Trevor were a couple, even got married.

i agree wonder woman rebirth title is so awesome and badass
Hippolyta has had blonde hair before. Originally a brunette but she's been blonde a few times.
Omar13Z ... indeed yes i remember there have been a blond Hippolyta in the Comics in the pass also in. fact in the DC Wonder Woman Cartoon movie and the Wonder Woman Movie, Hippolyta have been blond.

I must admit this is the best looking Wonder Woman desing I’ve seen so far

I like Jim Gordon, but I didn't like him as Batman and DC Ret-Conning that out of existence is absolutely ok with me.
marco39120 I gotta disagree. If you read that story. And keep in mind what else happened. It was beautiful man.
You knew Batman(Bruce) was coming back and that story made his comeback great.
I know a lot of old fans hated new 52 but stories like this is what got me into DC.
to most people batman was the best part of the new 52
marco39120 I didn't like Jim Gordon as batman either I am happy that's been retcon
Trevor Kovacs Batman has been the saving grace of many overall down periods for the company lol.
Joseph Dio yeah that is true
I love this! Man I've always been a Wonder Woman fan but I really never enjoyed her stories and mostly who was drawing her, I'm exited for this new change in her story.
I love that she is finally getting some good writing. Thanks for letting me know this is out Rob. I'm gonna pick up an issue and start the path again.
your storytelling is great. pacing, sidebars, relative info, insight from other stories are all spot on. i just watched this as well as the Spider-Man Punches Hulk into Orbit episode. very comprehensive and i really enjoyed the bit about the Spider-Mobile that Human Torch designed for Parker juxtaposed into the story and explains the current conflict between the two.

wow I never really was interesting in wonder woman stories, but this was epic and that ending was nuclear
Problem for Wonder Woman is that she doesn't usually age. Steve does. That's why I like the stories where they keep Steve in the 40s, so we can see her react to old Steve. Also Bruce and Diana> Clark and Diana, but they both still have the aging issue.
Half Centaur Clark ages slow as hell he can live for thousands of years I mean wonder woman would still out live him but it would be a long time
I'm not sure on thousands. It really depends on the writer, but most of my favorite interpretations have him aging faster than that.
Half Centaur and
Bruce and Diana for the win. Way more interesting to me than when she with Supes
WW should not be dating other heroes, especially not Batman or Superman, both are way too close to being "perfect" for that to be at all engaging.
blackmage665 WW pretty "perfect" herself, so I don't know what to say there. But no, I don't think Bruce or Clark are the most engaging ships. But Bruce's is far superior.
This is a fantastic story! Probably one of my favorites from rebirth!
"it's the perfect relationship. They can both fly. They both have super strength. What problem could there really be in their relationship?"
...
This is the most comic book nerd statement I've ever heard in my life.
What movie are we going to see?
I never ever cared about wonder woman, but I admit ,the twist at the end was a masterpiece ! It's this type of stories and plots that attract real comic book lovers !
Thanks Rob . From now onwards I'd have to keep an eye on wonder woman!

not a huge fan of Wonder Woman but I do like the new origin.... and the movie was kick ass! great vid!
Wonder Woman has been my favorite rebirth title so far. Great recap!!
never been a huge Wonder Woman fan but this was one of the greatest stories thanks
"Yeah sure she dated the New 52 Superman, but he's dead now."
I really hope they haven't taken her divinity away
Rob, you lately have been on fire! Dude great comment!
Thanks rob for getting me back into comics and passing my love for comics to my son.
The "Wonder Woman, where do you want to go for dinner?" "I don't know" dialogue would force me back into my comic book addiction ! I'd buy a ton of those comics!
lol rob seriously Diana's on the rebound? Hahah you're funny as hell i'm surprised you didn't say "touching naughty bits"
Just finished reading this vol. I love to watch your videos after reading a vol to get a bit of a more in-depth read.
Rob, if u think WonderWoman and Superman wouldn't bicker, u really need to read/review their n52 title. (There's a dinner scene in Vol3 that's quite hilarious.) The run itself was pretty damn awesome!
Ryen Frickey true
WOW.......just wow. great story. great video Rob!
This definitely just made me want to read Wonder Woman comics! Like holy hell! This story was awesome.
Rob,
Could you do more videos on Wonder Woman? This was an awesome story and I want to start getting my younger sister into comics. Obviously you don't have to limit it to Wonder Woman, just some strong female characters to draw my sister into the stories.
I ship Superman and Wonder Woman.
I've always shipped them together; it just felt right.
I loved their relationship in the New 52, but since New 52-Superman is gone, I'd have Wonder Woman with Steve Trevor.
*That ending!* I must say, I am impressed! Wow...
Stop forcing yourself to chuckle. Love everything else you do, though. AWESOME style of summarizing stories!
when Geoff Johns covered the green Lantern series I was sucked in immediately and with blackest night I became a loyal fan of his writing
This is my favorite title of REBIRTH!
just blew my mind. Loving wonder woman
I agree, Diana and Steve Trevor would definitely be more interesting than the relationship between her and superman.
I love DC Rebirth Wonder Woman's design... but I'll always prefer her as the Goddess of War like how she was in New 52
Loving this story. Wasnt really into comics until the online peeps told me to read this one...now I got 5 different series I'm reading ha!
I'm a huge Wonder Woman fan and thoroughly enjoyed your video
Hey Rob. The channel is growing a lot. Gratz.
Greg Rucka? I'm sold. His punisher series was awesome.
LOL
Hey Rob big fan here. I watch you videos every night like a bed time story. Can you do a video series on Star Wars comics?
Low Standard News I think he tried but it wasn't as popular so it got dropped unfortunately...
Low Standard News he just uploaded one about Darth Maul not to long ago
awesome! I will start reading WW. this was the shizzzy!! excellent recap Rob!!!
god damn....that twist at the end
FREAKING HUGE Wonder-Woman-Fan., my personal favorite version of her was the Pre-Crisis-On-Infinte-Earth version., the Silver-&-Bronze-Age ones., also I really., really., really., really., really., realy., love the 70's Wonder-Woman TV Show with Lynda-Carter and Lyle Waggoner.,,.
Never been disappointed by the alliterative Geoff Johns!
so many new stories that I really wanna check if only I had some more coin :/ damn you college expenses!
Heard about the algorithm change in TH-cam and I'm trying to show my support through bump in the comics.
THANK YOU ROB! I kinda lost hppe, to be honest, that you'd do the video on Wonder Woman Rebirth, and yet... thanks man :)
Love the channel man helping me get through some hard times
I would like to know about the different Gods in DC comics and maybe some stories that feature them.
Poppa Smoke and his grandson too, that dude becomes a superhero too. Think it was the patriot or something
That ending tho? Wow. Grreat writing.
I recently read the Wonder Woman: The Lies storyline and I really, really loved it!!!!
another great video Rob
Man that twist at the end though. WOW! I wasn't even going to watch this video because I really didn't care where her story went.
So now someone needs to answer the question of where Themyscira is, since its too cruel to prevent Wonder Women form ever going home, when all she has been given are false Themysciras to go to.
Great Video, I can't wait for you to do one on Civil Wars 2. It is so epic I really want to hear your thoughts on it and how it is wrapping up.
I LOVE Cheetah's new design!
Great video, Rob.
Great video, I would love to see the follow up story!
Rob, you are so easily impressed.
Bro... that was utterly Amazing.
Where with a superman you just know certain things won't, can't, happen, the deathstroke is a complete wild card.
surprisingly good story! Please do more!
soooooooooooo I kinda feel like we need a reaction video to the new guardians of the galaxy 2 trailer because it's AMAZING!!! (ROB'S VOICE) lol and slightly off subject what was your first video? just had that random thought!
I ship Wonder Woman and Batman
Siegmeyer of Catarina The one true ship.
I agree.
Siegmeyer of Catarina disagree with you respectfully. What about Selena ? Or Talia? Or Silver St Cloud ? Or Vicky Vale ect?
superman and wonder woman works too.
Michael Wayman for sure there are a million more logical storyline choices. it's more a matter of a unique option with a stark contrast in character that we've never really seen.
I love how her attire looks vastly similar to the uniform in the movie! Which by the way, the movie looks epic!
