What a great build of a top car. Thank you for bring this one to us. Thank you to the owner. To all who helped with the build, Wow, Wow. A world class mariage of quality meets quality. Takes me back to the 70s. 2 EKs, HT, HJ 253, 4 speed, bucket seats.
Fabulous build! Glad someone else built their rig for themselves and not for 'a FB thinking' crowd! My 1st car was a stock white HK crashbox sedan. Helped me learn how to double-declutch shift and why it was better not to hit things! For my 2nd car, I fell in love with a previously played with powder blue HG sedan. Premier grille/headlights, GTS guards & bonnet, fully separate twin exhausts, 10-bolt LSD diff, & Ford XB mirrors. I finished it off with a high-ratio GTS steering box (very hard to park but fabulous to drive with), reinforced HK grease-nipple front end, running HQ discs, 7" 5-slot alloys shod with 205 NCTs and a full bucket-bench Premier interior. Sadly, the LT5 ZR1 motor I had lined up to import from the States fell through. C'est la vie!
It's great you have those memories. And I agree that people should build what they want to build for themselves. That's how I do it to. Thanks for your comment.
@@AussieGarage My next build had a somewhat different basis. Just after finishing my motor-mechanic apprenticeship, a 'hum drum' Datsun 1200 s/wagon entered my life. I had sxxx to haul around, but it needed some 'attention'. The poor 'big' bro of the 1167cc A12 called my attention, an A14. Re-bored, balanced and deserving of a complete GX1200 twin carb head, Igniton Development Bosch dizzy, a 5-spd, some suspension & brake upgrades but a stock cam so I could still tow a trailer when needed 'fitted' my 'off-grid' thinking. Some doubts before its completion finally had me realising that in fact I was proportionally moving from a 2V 302 to a 4V 351; I had less doubt. My 35km, daily drives, across peak-hour Melbourne to work at Holden's Experimental Engineering, soon taught me that lane changes in heavy traffic could be almost no problem at all; & such a buzz. Power to weight could be a very useful thing, even on a budget, & still some economy, too. Such a shame, that after being clocked (supposedly), at 185kph (meaning 7,000rpm in 5th), I didn't find a better purpose for it. That little rocket didn't enjoy being stopped by the rear end of some Sigma that found its way into my path, though not at that 'clocked' speed. We all lived to drive another day, bit not the 1200 or Sigma; not my proudest moment but apparently one should not drive after no sleep & think everything was going to be Ok, by some 'chance'. I've had worse bicycle accidents, but I do know I'm not a cat, with just 9 lives; as if! If you're still reading, keep up your great work. There are no other 'exciting' stories from me unless you're somehow interested in what can be done with a USD10,000 bicycle frameset, fxxx modifiying cars, there's a planet to save! Hence, my being happy enough driving a '96 Corolla 1.8 auto for many years now. It might almost have beaten the A14 1200! ;-) That A14 motor and g'box are still awaiting a new life, but not by me, I hate grease and grim, that's why I wax my bicycle chains and Holden ditched grease nipples with the HK's demise. Try greasing a prime mover & tri-axle trailer, then saying you're having fun! HDT, RR & Bentley cars didn't have any grease nipples.
Fabulous Pete, remember you building the OG van when we were all kids, just spotted the corner of old GTR in one of the photos at the start. Fun times mates and cars
Great car. The colour matched petrol cap is a nice touch. My first car was a HG van back in the 80's, 3 speed speco floor shift 186, lots of great memories!
Very cool interview and car that one. Had one with a small block chev brings back memories. I think that's the bloke I bought a car trailer from many years ago, used to have that Camira drag car 👌👍
They should be a 7 inch light. They are all pretty standard sizes. I can check for you. We have them In stock in 7 inch and 5 inch. The 5 inch are usually for the twin headlight fronts. You can go through our website www.aussiegaragetv.com.au. where are you located?. Thanks for your inquiry.
I used to have one of those in the late 70's. Drove it from Bunbury to Cairns and back in 9 days. Had to replace 4 retreads and put new brushes in the alternator, but that was all.
Awesome video , great interview, fantastic car , really enjoyed it , well done Aussie Garage and Peter Marriott , Does it really have a reverse camera ? Seriously? …..
Thanks. Yes it does have a reverse camera. And so does my van. When they're windowless you're mostly using instinct when backing up otherwise. I'm with Peter on that one.
G'day Peter. Great build. I like the electric power steering carefully poking through the guard. Whats the details of the electric A/C system? I need one for my ute. Thanks, Mark.
I remember the EH "Pure Juice" very nice what ever happened to it? In fact what happened to all those modified cars fron the 70s to 80s there were so many back then even had a HR myself painted rootbeer with wildfire superX metal flake that got written off, some must be sitting in sheds somewhere they were to nice to just strip out and send to scrap but so many EH holdens, were done up, was even a car yard on Scarborough beach rd that only sold EH Holdens about where freeway is today
@AussieGarage that would be fantastic if you could uncover some of those old Holden's and falcons that were modified no matter what condition they are in they all used to parade by "chucking laps" around the city and Scarborough drags
Colour is awesome and it's not a matching numbers Monaro it's I would say a 161 three on the tree car worth more than what it would be restored back to original

What a beautiful p/van a credit to you and everyone involved in building it
Absolutely awesome, brings back memories of my HT Holden panel van, great interview and video guys 👌🇦🇺🦘🪃🏔🤝🇦🇺🦘🪃🍻
Thanks again. We love our vans here at Aussie garage.
@@AussieGarage Your welcome and me to, cheers

Very nice Peter. And i love the colour
Love the before photos, she's sure come a long way
It's a big transformation from what it was. That's for sure.
Absolute Credit To You Mate And Fabricators
100%
Wow, that’s a great build!
The steering rack conversion is the best mod for drivability.
In the case, green really is nice.👌
The new front suspension really makes a difference on the road. And I like green especially this green.
bloody superb mate - congratulations on the van - and this vid. Well done and thanks for letting us have looksee.
Thanks for watching. This van was great to film.
Sensational machine looks stunning sounds on point too.

Same here. Bright and in your face is good.
Fabulous Pete, remember you building the OG van when we were all kids, just spotted the corner of old GTR in one of the photos at the start. Fun times mates and cars
Michael, great times & people back in the day.
Don’t think about how long ago it was, makes you feel very old
Great to hear from someone who recognized the old photos. And was there back in the day. What great memories.
Great work guys. It is an awesome van 👍
Meet Peter at a car cruise once awesome guy and great van
Love your Pano Pete! Great build and thanks for sharing. 👍
Love it a very sweet ride.
Great coverage guys of a very nice machine. Thanks also to Peter for sharing his very special adventure with us.
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Peter was great to talk to.
Great car. The colour matched petrol cap is a nice touch.
My first car was a HG van back in the 80's, 3 speed speco floor shift 186, lots of great memories!
Not a bad first car to have.
What a fantastic looking van, all credit to Peter, a project built with passion. Regards from the UK.
He has built his dream. And it turned out amazing.
@@AussieGarage All respect to him for that. An inspiration for many too. All the best.
Very cool interview and car that one. Had one with a small block chev brings back memories. I think that's the bloke I bought a car trailer from many years ago, used to have that Camira drag car 👌👍
Small world. Your old van would have been awesome with a Chevy etc.
Yes we had the Camira back in the day, you will have bought the trailer from my brother. You wouldn’t happen to know where the Camira is now?
@@amandam6227Ah awesome mate yeah I don't know unfortunately but I still have a lot of contacts I'll ask around and let you know 👌
Good to see you are driving an environment friendly GREEN car, love it mate
If this is classed as being green, we would all be happy to go green.😂😂
@AussieGarage looks green to me, it's fully recycled, more than those electric shitboxes that end up in landfill when the battery goes flat
I would love a closer look at the Air-conditioning system you have done please
Friggen nice ride
Killer love it
Nice to see a real chev in it.
Gday, was just watching Old school only, fit some banging headlights, and said you guys are an agent for them. Do you have some to fit a 71 vw beetle
They should be a 7 inch light. They are all pretty standard sizes. I can check for you. We have them In stock in 7 inch and 5 inch. The 5 inch are usually for the twin headlight fronts. You can go through our website www.aussiegaragetv.com.au. where are you located?. Thanks for your inquiry.
good to see you did not add a wheebarrow on the bonnet
I agree. I love seeing the bling out the bonnet.
As a kid in the HK-T-G era, my choice was an HG GTS, 350, TH350 - in Lakeside Green, an HG colour.
They were also awesome machines.
I used to have one of those in the late 70's.
Drove it from Bunbury to Cairns and back in 9 days. Had to replace 4 retreads and put new brushes in the alternator, but that was all.
Sounds like a great adventure. Also proves there pretty tough and could go the distance.
Cool Vans aye! .Telecom NZ had these as white service vehicles & I remember my Dad getting one at auction in 1979 for $500.
Cool. I wish they were still $500.
Awesome video , great interview, fantastic car , really enjoyed it , well done Aussie Garage and Peter Marriott , Does it really have a reverse camera ? Seriously? …..

@@AussieGarage facts 😂
Have got Hg panel van from new
Awesome.
Beautiful work of art 🖼️.Awesome build! Have you been to summer Nat in Canberra?
It's a fair hike from perth to the nats. Don't think he has been. It would fit right in though.
G'day Peter. Great build. I like the electric power steering carefully poking through the guard. Whats the details of the electric A/C system? I need one for my ute. Thanks, Mark.
We will try and get you the details.
It’s a Rencool unit from Queensland.

That's a good question. Maybe we should go looking and see what we can find.
@AussieGarage that would be fantastic if you could uncover some of those old Holden's and falcons that were modified no matter what condition they are in they all used to parade by "chucking laps" around the city and Scarborough drags
Have Hg from new panel van 1 971
looks like a show car to me
Personally I'd ditch the bonnet erections...
Love the colour .
I like the carbs out the bonnet. But each to there own. At least it doesn't have a reverse cowl.
@@AussieGarage 👍👍To True
and Yep, those things totally wreck the lines of the car
At least one thing your had no Bull shit lieing toe rags and who had worked on is a credit to who have worked on
Hk monaro 4 sale /find me gts

THEIRS NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT A Holden.
Well I think all old school classic cars weather its Ford, Holden, Chrysler or GM at very cool
Wee all go wrong with paint /keep holden paint code realZ/more money
Nothing wrong with the paint in my opinion.
Colour is awesome and it's not a matching numbers Monaro it's I would say a 161 three on the tree car worth more than what it would be restored back to original
'Ol school cool.
