The idea of having an ipad to do basic stuff like texting and watching videos while being able to switch to a full proper desktop experience and get actual work done seems awesome. I can see how it might not be practical for traveling, but even just for working in different places around the house, it looks awesome! Especially if you have your main mac mini workstation setup in one part of the house but you want to be able to take it somewhere else, having a monitor that fits in that package is really practical
@@ismailcemturgut I love Samsung Dex (I use it a lot myself) but if you are doing stuff like professional video editing it's not really good for that. I like the versatility of dex for less taxing stuff but when I'm editing I'd rather use windows, macOS or even iPadOS on my M2 iPad pro.

It's a wonderfully simple and clean solution - using an AC battery pack. I don't think I have the skills for this - but next step for power efficiency would be replacing the Mac Mini's power supply (essentially an AC to DC converter), and have the battery pack power the Mac Mini only with DC power. I think it is cool just for the fact that it's so different. I really dug the look that guy gave you when he didn't understand what you were using. I'm real extra like that though.
This is an amazing idea... If you already have a Mac mini, iPad mini, power bank, and not to forget a 3D printer. If you don't by the time you are all in for the things needed, you would have been better off just getting a Macbook (air or otherwise). Still this is bloody amazing and I love it!!!
If you remove the DC to AC conversion from that portable battery-inverter, and also remove the AC to DC conversion from mac mini, you will save some space and also remove the energy wasted in these conversions. Try wiring mac-mini directly with the battery.
Hey scott, i have a fun project for you. There are alot of galaxy fold 3 out there that have bad hinges and foldable screen. The project is to convert the fold 3 to a normal slab tablet. You will have to 3d print the frame onto a 8inch non folding display, then transfer all the internals into the new frame. Then put it onsale , we will buy it.
You have missed the Aesthetic aspect when judging this super cute design which I would pay for having it sitting on my desk and moving with it around the house. I would love to see how the same design would work for the IPAD pro 13 inch. It would be the perfect combo in my opinion. It still misses safety latches on mac mini not to accidentally slide out of the station when moving around, and the battery can be cut in half for lighter design, but It is lovely.
Please, you don't have to upgrade it fully since you said, you didn't think it was practical, but spray paint the power bank white and use cream white wires, it'd look sick!!
If you were to tear apart a MacBook Air M1 (maybe with broken screen), upgraded the cooling and made a custom case for it, this could actually be a really elegant and portable setup
could save a lot of whieght and space and heat by oppening up the mac mini and designing a new PSU module to do DC-DC converstion and host a BMC, then wire up a bunch of LiPo flat packs to that. then you save the space and heat of both the inverter on the battery bank side and the rectification and some voltage conversion on the PSU side.only downside is now your mac mini can't plug directly into the wall anymore.
Dude! Freaking love your style 👏your videos are always so well thought out and high quality. I don't mind waiting for your videos to see what you get up to ! Great work mate 🎉 Ollie, Australia
Dude, I watched and subbed when you first started on this journey, and with every iteration, you just made it better. I understand the battery is an issue, but if you are in a cafe, use the outlet, and the battery is reserved for when you are out camping, lol.
Next project: Mac Nano. Design your own case for the Mac Mini - a lot of current case design is empty space because the old Intel variants needed it for airflow and removable components.
A rechargeable battery outputs DC voltage, which then gets fed into a converter that wastes a lot of energy creating AC voltage, which is then fed into the back of the Mac Mini and converted back into DC voltage, once again losing energy. I can't help but wonder if anyone would open up their mac mini and just... wire in a DC power input, like a barrel jack or USB-C PD connection. That would make a MUCH smaller power bank viable to use for just as long.
It's because of you that is why I bought Mac Mini for my editing job. Hope I can make it portable as well like yours. For now, I will have to save your vids again. :D
