Let me know what you think about the video, the results, and what I can do better!
Really any time better... Unbiased and honest, excellent review!!
Great video mate, best on the net for me with analysis.
FSR.3.1 is a improvement for sure over FSR 2 & that's progress.
I think Ghosting was the most obvious thing I saw from what I saw it on Ghost of Tsh, didn't notice it as much in the other games
I think DLSS had an issue with Ghosting in earlier versions, so it takes time
Image quality is really much better however with FSR 3.1, Looks cleaner and less artifacting, shimmering etc
Ótimo vídeo comparativo como sempre. Esse é disparado o melhor canal que eu me inscrevi nesse ano 😄!
dude in HFW water has lot of shimmering to the point it looks completely gurbage.. he hide that part till the end of the video. Professional Trickster hired by AMD.
and the worst part is all of you 🤡 fell for it. 😂😂😂
XeSS has seen a great improvement in such a short time. It is amazing.
I think people looking at it early on didn’t realize that there are big differences in quality between the dp4a and xmx versions. Xmx is quite comparable to dlss
@@cbrunhaver but as he said, so little people have an intel card that it basically doesn’t matter to show it.
I'm hoping the battemage gpus are good and priced well
yea but it's not working properly. tried on R&C at crashed in 20 minutes.
The fact AMD is achieving all this without the use of AI or machine learning and is simply being done through ONLY code is really impressive. Obviously it's not perfect, there are MANY glaring issues still (and also each implementation has its own issues), but what they've been able to achieve is really good stuff. The fact its also open-source and free to use is another plus in my book.
Intel also does it the same way and is way better.
@@damazywlodarczykEvery time I see someone say "Xess is better," I think: Xess is certainly better than FSR in terms of image quality, and it can be used with any GPU, but Xess's original role is upscaling. I am not able to take charge of this. This is because GPUs other than Arc only function as anti-aliasing and cannot increase the frame rate.
@@user-kw3em7ru4v Xess of course gives more fps on non intel cards.
If only AMD could fix AFMF so it doesn't not stopped working when you look with mouse in such form its useless, only useful is strategy games
Have you heard of intel? This is just so much cope from AMD users. The new FSR is better but still doesn’t move the needle… FSR is the worst
Imagine just three to five years from now where we'll be with upscaling. We probably won't be able to tell it's on. We'll just have higher frames.
We'll probably have the same framerate because devs will make 9 trillion polygon sandwhiches and have even worse memory management.
Lmao that's what people said when dlss came out and look whats happening now
Devs Became too lazy to optimize their games so they depends on upscaling to make us have a *playable* experience
Our only hope is fg becomes as good as lossless scaling x3 without all the ghosting and latency issues and only then we will actually just have higher frames
They can't make it too good. They still have to sell gpus.
You'd think that would happen, but lemme tell you something, that ain't gonna happen kid. We're going to get beautiful games nobody can actually run, because why would you spend time optimizing performance when you can imply the problem is customer's poverty and let them use dogsh-t software trickery.
Diminishing returns
Love your channel man, and how open you are to suggestions and feedback. Gotta love it man. Great video too btw.
Great video looks like a good improvement for a bonus feature.
love your videos Frog!
The work you do for us is astonishing, so informative, mucha gracias ❤️
thank you as well!
Nice work mate. Thanks
What the test shows well is that none of the upscaling solutions is perfect. Each variant has its pros and cons. Thx for you work and time for this!
Exactly! Dlss is better overall, but not always better in all cases
Not everything is perfect, but we still have to choose which one is better overall. So yeah, DLSS still won the competition

Great to see you present the video more rested and relaxed
Well at least AMD is getting closer. Having a more stable temporal layer was actually a surprise for me here. There's actually another case where it beats dlss in that regard at 15:22 . To see this:
Look at the black truck in front of the gray car next to the circle marker on the dlss side. Now look at the street and you'll see a thin line in the street and going down the middle. On the XESS and FSR side this part looks better there, with it being best on FSR if you ask me. That's really interesting but until they get the anti aliasing and transparency shimmer issues down, FSR is going to stay behind. Thanks for the detailed breakdown bro!
Thank you for such an amazing video and break down, we love ya.
Remember the days when we didn't need any of this upscaling bullshit and the games would just run at full settings without issue.
Pepperidge farm remembers... Ah yeah those were the days..
that's all fun and games for sure, but back in the days new games were meant to play at 60FPS tops, and now 60 FPS sucks for most people, so upscaling and FG are actually great additions there
Yes, but most games these days don't run even close to the intended fps [60] on high settings [1440p] even if we are running a mid to high end gpu like a RTX 4070 super or a RX 7900 GRE, they are made half-assed and we are forced to use upscaling to reach the games intended fps which is 60..
It might just be me, but running games with upscaling at anything other res than Native makes the game look really bad, and I for one would much rather play with lower fps.
@@freedom_fightaIt’s actually not true, at least not entirely. I play most games on ultra settings at 1440p on a 6800XT with around or well above 60 fps Native, depending on the game. There are some games that are more demanding, but upscalers are getting pretty good so when I need a little push, I turn on Quality. Coupled with FG I max the 144 Hz refresh rate of my monitor. The visual tradeoff at least for me is really small as I am not pixel peeping.
@@deyandimitrov7287 Unreal Engine 5 is still in the early stages of adoption. After a while everything made with UE5 will need upscalers or run with 20 fps. And that's going to be a lot of games. You can see it already with titles like Remnant 2 or Immortals of Aveum.
Really informative video man, thanks
Great work as always!
They are getting very close to each other. The ghosting on AMD is what they need to improve on. I remember playing Avatar with my RX 7600 on release, and the image was crisp clear and had no ghosting.
I think this is something related with TAA and how the implementation of FSR can be negleted with some devs.. TAA already produces a lot of ghosting and bluring by itself.
To bad MSAA and SMAA are too much to modern graphic to handle without blowing the perfomace budget... i miss crisp graphics
Yea, definitely needs some improvement. that ghosting is kinda wierd though, cause in Ghost of Tsushima other than that weird fire particle effects issue when moving the camera (which was there even in the original PS4 game), it doesnt have that ghosting problem with FSR3 FrameGen + FSR 3.1 upscaling (Update v1052.5.0625.1621 updated FSR 3.0(2.2) upscaling to 3.1) Balanced or Performance modes. Could be something in the game engine that the devs themselves need to fix/tweak maybe?
The ghosting also depends on the game and scene, the game with more ghosting is Horizon Forbidden West, the others don't suffer as much there
Love your work
Let's say that 3.1 upscaling is a starting point, as such it is not bad, but hopefully they don't stop here and continue to improve on its weaker sides.
The next one will use ML I believe
@@AncientGameplaysI just hope that it's not exclusive to 7000 series
@@waltuhputurdawaysi fsr4 utiliza IA solo será compatible con RX 7000 o generaciones más nuevas
@@waltuhputurdawayyeah, have it be back compatible to 6000-series at least, preferably all RDNA (but my guess is that will be a tall order). Then anything else can be non-ML FSR. And have it all be integrated, not needing separate software installs etc.

Can you please answer this will really help me out. So, for the 7900xtx, I am using the 2300 2400 with 1120 and my VRAM at 2714 for the undervolted profile that you made on the 7900xtx power saving profile, and it has decreased coil whine drastically. Great video again mate! Only thing missing was comparing it to lossless scaling
loseless scaling is good for frame gen, and that's about it (IMO)

Thanks for the thorough review again and for your recommendations which upscaling technique to use together with AMD frame generation in different games. Again: thanks a lot
DLSS is the overall winner but it only works if it boosted by A.I. on an nVidia card, XeSS 1.3 without A.I. acceleration gives us a great image Quality. AMD is on a good path but they really need to use A.I. at least similar way as Intel does with XeSS. I have a big problem, nVidia is now an A.I. company about 80-90% their income comes from Artificial Intelligence, Research, Supercomputers and Servers and not from gaming. I hope they will be more user friendly in the future because their cards are expensive and if you want their latest technologies you should buy a new card. Nvidia is a pioneer in terms of technology, if they would have never released DLSS there would be no FSR and XeSS and also Ray Tracing still wouldn’t be a thing, their Ray Reconstruction technology is mind blowing, this is why I like their cards but my problem is if they already have the majority of their income from other parts of the company they should have been less greedy if we talk about graphics cards and share their tech with other vendors or at least their own previous generation cards. And I am an RTX 4080 user but things started get out of hand and I will not buy an nVidia card in the future if they continue with their blatant (over)pricing.
.
What choice do you have? Take amd, which is a generation behind? You might as well take the 3000th nvidia - they are still on sale ;) Nvidia is more expensive because it is better. And as soon as amd reaches the nvidia level, they will immediately set an equal price (Ryzen is proof of this). Huang doesn't force anyone to buy 4K monitors, and he doesn't force anyone to buy top-end 4080/4090, and 2K is much more affordable. And literally everyone can afford 1080p...
By the way, in addition to problems with technological processes in silicon, there is such a banal thing as dollar inflation, ~ 30% over the past 10 years, and people still think that $ 1000 is a lot, look at how much phones and cars cost...
and compare the cooling system of the 2080, 3080 and 4080, the 4080 has just a huge one - it's also worth degassing. And I'm silent about how much the PC you put your 4080 in cost, because obviously Ryzen 5600 is not there)))
So I prefer to choose getting a 6900xt or 3080 for below 400 and wait for a 4090 or 5080 to be 800 ish, that's my choice, I'm happy being a generation behind and getting double performance every time I upgrade (rx580-6600xt-6900xt-5080) 1080-2k-4k always paying less than half MSRP
@@Aleksey-vd9oc its not better for everyone. If i dont want dlss and RT why would i buy nvidia? Amd has more raster and vram and is way cheaper. So why is it better?

I'm sure someone already has or will point this out, but versions of dlss past 2.5.1 change things up, and introduce presets (A through E I believe), which makes it so manually updating the dll can actually get worse motion results unless you use a different program to force the right preset. I noticed this especially in spider-man. Excellent video as always Fabio!
Yeah, thanks for letting me know. I believe they use the same preset as it was in the game before I believe
@@AncientGameplays you can use dlsstweaks to manually select a preset, i believe preset E works best, in most cases, with the newer versions
This isn't an issue since DKLSS3.7.0 which forces preset E as the default one, and preset E is currently the best preset.
Whats dlsstweaks do you need this if you own a nvidia gpu?
bro I ask you a question in the last of us I started a game from 0 up with dlss without depth of field and without motion blur when I came to a specific cinematic of Ellie and Joel looking at the capitol the backlight is very yellow I wanted to see The cinematic in scenes shows it fine without that light. Great comparison video Fabio :D While there are soem issues pretty much with all upscaler software ..... the great thing is many games give you a choice of upscaler you want to use and you have the option of the Lossless Scaling for a few dollars of Steam which has received vg reviews overall. Choice is key for consumers!!!
Now the big question is , how much do you notice the image quality while playing the game? Serious question. I've used upscaling a couple of times and could notice the quality difference on one game but fsr2.2 balanced in cyberpunk at 1440p I really only noticed when I looked for it.
amd nvidia allocate more time and resource for this upscaling tech optimization, fsr dlss, and i find that its not worth disabling

@@AncientGameplays makes sense. I didn’t mean it in a bad way. Also, I went to Portugal a couple of years ago for work. It was absolutely beautiful and the people were amazing.
hm. i suppose xess 1.3 is better overall, but that's a-okay by me. as long as there are GOOD options that aren't brand-locked, all is well. the transparent thing on FSR is really the deal breaker here. those spiderman scenes looked... they just flat out weren't being upscaled. that's just the pixel sampling that the algorithm runs before it actually treats the image. that's why it shimmers like crazy that way.
anyway, this is the last non-AI FSR update, isn't it? so, a good place to be. let's hope future upgrades can still run on old hardware, or at least include this algo with them
Indeed might be the last one

The details and ghosting is still there and I still see the flaws the dragging and more. But it's better it just doesn't look as good to me.
You are the first and only person to notice more detail at times.
I usually know where to look at haha
I've tested it in Ghost of Tsushima so far (been forced to use it since they broke the frame gen now), imo it seems more unstable but Im unsure. kinda dissapointing imo but hoping frame gen is fixed soon since fsr frame gen is defo better than dlss frame gen imo
@@Definedd agree it's not stable at all. His bias played through at points. He did see all of the faults but would try recovering by talking about details.
@AncientGameplays I don't believe it's that. I believe you were trying to save face for it when it's not stable and has horrific falws worse then other upscaling techniques. Yes at the moment it looks slightly better at times but then it has more stability issues then before. I think you know it's not that good right now. The only way they can improve is by hearing things especially from an amd channel like yours telling them yeah its not up to par we need it fixed. Or they will just go oh alright cool we did good let's leave it for a bit. Lol
It needs to get to dlss quality but it's almost impossible due to not being a proprietary source. I don't see how they can catch up but I do see how it's good for all gamers. The thing that shocked me the most was that amd found a way to allow nvidia to utilize its own frame generation with 3.1 now giving nvidia an even further boost on amd own sources.

bit of a letdown if I am honest
still improved
So FSR 3.1 has issues with transparent layers, meaning FSR 3.2 just need to take care of that to reduce ghosting and be almost as good as XeSS. Come on AMD devs! And kudos to Intel Devs.
Does this mean Nvidia devs can't do anything without their AI?
They could possibly do something with their AI I mean they make billions every year😭
AI or not, nobody wants to see every raindrops leaving behind ghost trails. whatever produces the best results wins
@@viewsan this means that AI is not performing any sort of magic and is still bound by the limitations of iterative computations or algorithms.
And Intel has found a way to transfer their AI solution onto non AI accelerated GPU, which is great IMO.
The fact that Nvidia FG needs RTX40 cards & is of inferior quality to AMD suggests their devs needs AI to do it and are not as good in algorithms & maths. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me based on their recent research papers and products.

Tech Jesus any chance of making comparison WIN 10 versus current build of WIN 11 specifically in games ?
I'm curious how Lossless Scaling's upscaling compares
much worse, as it only upscaling from your native res and above, and of course, it uses spatial upscaling, which is like FSR 1.0 and DLSS 1.0
Hey ! Hail from France ! Great to see you with your beautifull hairs ! Honestly, FSR or DLSS made a great job, it's hard now to see a real difference with native graphics. It's impressive. I play a lot to Warhammer 40K Darktide who need to be play with FSR2.0 (even if you have a good PC, I personnaly have a 5600X/16go DDR4 3,2Ghz/rx6800) ... and I don't see the difference. Great video as usual ! Hope you the best, keep up the good work !
Sad that FSR3.1 is not a major improvement like we were expecting. AMD seriously needs to up thier game. Intel made better improvements moving from Xess 1.2 to Xess 1.3 without hyping it.
Made a paypal donation for either your new camera or something for your new house. Congratulations with your new house!
Thank you very much, was trying to answer there, but was blocked. Glad I can thank you here!
You're welcome @@AncientGameplays
Super interesting video and nice to see that FSR is getting better, albeit slowly, isn't unreal engine TSR also an upscaler?
Does it only work for UE games and if so, could it also become puplic (for other engines)? Greetings and thanks dude!
Yes, TSR is actually quite good in some cases
An interesting thing I noticed is that these Nixxes FSR 3.1 implementations might actually be a kind of pre-release. The github page of FSR it's still showing 3.0.4, and GPUOpen page actually says that it's "not quite ready to share yet". So maybe when the SDK gets actually officially released to the public (soon?) we will maybe get an improved version? Here's hoping...
Maybe
We're you using dp4a xess?
Bro watch the full intro. He explains what he did or didn't do.
@@Sleepless4Lifemy bad I skipped because of the meme lol
Jesus told me watch every piece of advertise in the videos to support Fabio. So do you guys.
thank you!
Great video, shame about the ghosting, seeming to got worse, this is what I was meaning about the DF Direct clip.
Particularly bad on Horizon when swinging the spear, but also transparencies like you shown.
Is this dp4a XeSS?
as explained
4:30 FSR with rain has that wet window effect, kinda funny, because it changes presentation compared to others
For FHD resolution, which is better: FSR 3.1 quality or XeSS 1.3 ultra quality or XeSS 1.3 ultra quality plus?
I use Rx6600
Xess in terms of quality, fsr for fps
@@AncientGameplays thank u❤️
Great video - a lot of data. Cyberpunk PT had double res of reflections, xess1.3 vs fsr3 mod. Gives me hope of it being better and saving couple fps. Maybe it would look better below 90fps with FG. Asking for donation is ok, maybe release this tshirt as merch, it would've been easier to pay in that scenario.
If we look back to the previous FSR releases, the new massive update will most probably be followed by minor number update like 3.1.1 for example. Let's hope they can fix pixelated issue soon.
Whats the latency tested and compared?
latency difference is something that no one will ever notice, and if they say they will, they're lying... this in terms of upscaling. FG is a different scenario
@19:35 LOL called it and commented on every outlet that spoke of or tested FSR 3.1 on why don't they saying about this big change. Arguably THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE 3.1 BRINGS
Alas, at least some are doing it now.
Upscaling is a god send for Polaris and older GPUs... for anything better... just run 1080p and call it a day.
i've tried on R&C and xess even couldn't work properly with 7900xtx FSR3.1 FG. FSR3.1 with FSR3.1 FG is best for amd but you can select DLSS3 with DLSS FG or FSR3.1 FG both 78 fps on C&R 2k very high 4060ti but if you select FSR3.1 and FSR3.1 FG with same settings it's 96 fps. i don't get it, amd beats DLSS3 in it's own game.
You have something wrong then. I use xess + fsr3 fg usually
I'm not saying you shouldn't upgrade your camera, but the quality never bothered me at all tbh
I want to get a step further, especially in reviews
can you add losless scaling to your testings?
Why? That makes no sense. Ls uses spatial upscaling, which is considerably worse
@@AncientGameplays OK sorry i Just thought i is a goode idea .Do you have a Video to explane what the difference is
@@nomino3697 My bad, I could have answered in a different way, I wasn't even mad haha
@@AncientGameplays oh OK i thought you are Mad i Love you Video for the AMD cards
I noticed ghosting on dlss when you said it wasn't (first game).
That said, when playing instead of looking for flaws, how noticeable are the FSR flaws?
Anyways, thanks for another great video.
It depends on the eye I guess haha
@@AncientGameplays Exactly.
Not that the effort that you pour on each video is not appreciated, but I think that a lot of people simply look for things to use against other companies yet those features are not that relevant to their enjoyment of the game.
Really weird.
hi! i have an rx6600 with i3 13100 and in 2k resolution with amd frame gen on i prefer to use xess 1.3 in ultra quality or u.q.plus(i lost almost 10 fps in that mode but is worth it if the game allows) better experience for my eyes with xess vs fsr in most of the games i have tested so far... good video. pd: sometimes depends on the game i activate "amd image sharpening" between 30 to max 60! and is better for me....
But if it's Horizon game, a scifi game, seeing all that ghosting wouldn't immediately made me think that it's an actual ghosting effect and I would personally think that it's intentional instead 😅 it's a fantasy world anyway 😂
Nice video as always, Fabio
Man XESS is gorgeous
DP4a is the open one and bit behind on optimization to XMX. Yet DP4a is keeping up with DLSS pretty well. INTEL is very much challenging and in very short time. Battlemage with XMX will be awesome. You say small market share but I have a feeling INTEL will come strong with Battlemage with new builds. $500+$500 for INTEL CPU/INTEL ARC GPU pairing for INTEL build that would compete with 4080. 4080 alone is $1100. I think INTEL will hit hard.
Let's hope!
@@AncientGameplays I like to pair the INTEL with INTEL because there is clear advantage. Also I think we should talk about the upcoming APO that has huge promise 10-50% gains. I always saw the ARC as promotional tool to sell INTEL CPU's. We also see Nvidia now coming with their own CPU. I think pairing will be the future. Today AMD/Nvidia uses very little CPU with the GPU. INTEL Architecture is pairing and lot less queuing. I would also argue that current test methods only show half the performance from INTEL for the simple reason there is two silicons doing the work via REBAR where every FPS counts. Yet none of the creators have really dived into it. For example if the game is capped lets say 200FPS at 1080p. AMD/Nvidia usually is close to the 200FPS mark while ARC is half of that. But at 4k pulls on bar or even beats the same competition where the cap is not a limiting factor anymore. This has always given me questions how reliable are these test methods used vs real experience where more you demand better the experience from the ARC.
hi my friend )) before i sleep i chek my youtube and BOOM the video posted now hhhh u are Batman Gotam need you to help her in the night !!great video as always u do it well and i enjoy it!!have great nigth!!all my salutation take care !
Big Hug Hocine!
love the boost but gotta hate the input lag as a cost 😪love your videos
That's FG, not upscaling
Well obviously it will depend which one is better depending on what card you have, for Nvidia users DLSS is better (overall it is) but for AMD users FSR would be the best option because they can't use DLSS, (XeSS is really good, second better behind DLSS in my opinion and can be used in all cards too)
I'm a RTX user, but sincerely good job AMD and most of all good job Fabio !
Thanks!
Everytime hilarious intro lol
so you can add dlss to gameS that doesn't support dlss just like that????
no, you can upgrade DLSS in games that already support it, same for XeSS and now FSR as well
@@AncientGameplays 😓
wish i culd combine cards get a big amd and a litle intel card for the parts intels good at or other combos
you can just use XeSS on amd
@@AncientGameplays
gota look into that thanks interesting no matter how it works
i hope it will be better than native TAA in Dying Light 2 this time (will take a while for developers to update if they will do it at all), because XeSS 1.3 is fenced behind Intel hardware
Overall, I'd say XeSS 1.3 is the winner because the results are quite close to DLSS without requiring specific hardware. Being able to combine it with AMD's FG makes everything even better.
true, like stated in the end, I generally use XeSS + FSR3 FG
Even when you're on NVIDIA?
