★ *REVIEWING **amzn.to/3gelYMm** NEED MORE INFO? ✔︎ THE ⬆︎DESCRIPTION⬆︎* ★ *CORRECTION: I mistakenly wrote bi-amp, it should read, bi-wire. You can use the 2nd zone to bi-wire a single pair of loudspeakers via the NR1200.*
You are correct, it can also play DSD/DSF files. I do my best to include everything or every detail but honestly, so many of these products include everything AND the kitchen sink, my reviews would be an hour to cover everything. Folks complain enough about the length of my videos enough as it is ;).
Thanks, thats exactly what I wanted to know. For me this has everything I want with the exception of DAB+ Radio but I can use internet radio for that instead I guess. After now hearing your review, it sound like it has pretty much everything I am after but in practise, it sounds pretty compromised :( do you know of any other leading brand that offers similar?
I use a separate amplifier for my subs So what I’m looking for is the cleanest amplifier under $1000 around 100 watts a channel. With Bluetooth of course. I also looked at denon dra800h but if this nr1200 is a cleaner unit I’ll buy this one Unless you have another receiver in mind?
Hmm. I think there might still be some confusion? Zone 2 is a pre-amp output that can be used to play something different from whatever is playing in Zone 1. The physical A & B speaker outs on the other hand are both Zone 1. So yes bi-wire and not bi-amp but not in the way described. I bi-wire from a single set of outputs. Comes to the same and is less fiddly to manage.
This is the video and product that has sent me into an audiophile rabbit hole-(approximately $5000+ in so far) the past year. AR has been essential in my hifi journey with his slick video production, knowledgeable and entertaining videos and products that are fascinating to learn about regardless if I can afford them or not. I use the NR1200 has a preamp with two Jamo S808 subs, Klipsch RP600M, two Crown XLS1002, bridged giving me a stupid amount of power along with my video sources: Apple TV, Roku, FiOS, 46 inch Phillips TV which has provided me with a phenomenal entry level starter system that I have been enjoying literally ever since I saw this video. So kudos to Andrew and his success and please keep up the fantastic work!
I own an NR1200 and disagree about the "click" when powering on or off the unit. I like it very much, the loud click gives it a sort of tactile charm that I find satisfying. To each their own!
I have the PM6007 and it does the same. Pushing the on button makes a satisfying metallic click and then there's a thud when the speakers get powered and the blue indicator light(s) come on. I agree that it's incredibly satisfying and feels like a quality product rather than a cheap plasticky sound. 👍
To be honest I have an Denon 800H, in conjunction with Polk s60e towers and a SVS PB1000 sub for my perfect 2.1 system. I have had the full 5.1 speaker with the S35 center and S10 Bookshelf's as well. Had them connected in 5.1 for a while then switched over to the DRA800 h and 2.1 and I actually prefer it like this. The Towers look way cleaner without the center and I don't miss it. Voices and clear and powerful with only the S60e Polk towers and the SVS PB 1000 delivers more than enough room shaking bass in any movie. Its a simple yet very effective setup with way less speakers but I would not say less of an event if watching movies.
The Marantz NR1200 has been my amp for a year. It's been fantastic in connections and sound, at least for me. Actually thought it was 100w per channel until watching this video. And Andrew is spot-on when he described the 'dark' sound. I've compensated by turning the high up 1db (or whatever the UOM is).
I’m currently looking for an NR1200 and your review was relevant for me. I felt that your presentation and personal comments were honest and refreshing
The first 3 minutes of this video really explains what has become "Home Theater". Being a home theater company owner, I can tell you the type of systems I install are 80 percent stereo or soundbar configurations. My business had drastically died off compared to the mid 2000s. Everyone is keeping things simple and cleaner for most homes that have open concepts design. I've installed 0 Atmos setups the past year. Unfortunately, smaller setups don't pay the bills. 😣
Thank you so much for weighing in. I am sorry to hear of the change in your business, but it is nice to get a perspective from the field that I feel a lot of manufacturers are either ignorant of, or choosing to ignore in hopes the things go back to the way they were (they won't). Thank you for sharing and for watching!
How are you changing your business's focus? I would think smart home integration and multi-zone audio with a slant towards supporting "lifestyle" audio could fill gaps. Sonos is so easy, but shocked how friends still need help with theirs, heh. And yeah, Atmos is still hype for all bit a narrow slice of content mixed properly. Our 5.1 with Atmos virtualization in the living room does fine emulating the extra channels and the sound bar in the bedroom (Beam) is all we need. Home theater has got to be tough if you are not in a market where home builders are pushing theater rooms.
@@photobriangray you are correct, but, the area I live is a smaller retirement area in the North Georgia mountains. Wood cabins are almost the norm and that makes it more challenging too....if I lived in Atlanta, that may be a different story. I'll take mountain living. Thank goodness I have everything paid for and no major bills.
I have been running the NR1200 for about 6 months now and am super happy with it. Up until a week ago I was temporarily using it to power two Power Sound Audio MTM210 speakers and a huge dual 18" Power Sound Audio Sub which had been borrowed from my home theatre for a while. It sounded great. However I moved those speakers back to the theatre when my brand new Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2 anniversary editions arrived this week and I couldn't be happier honestly. Even though the B&W's are a full 10dB less efficient, the 75watts per channel from the NR1200 still seems to be more than enough to drive them with plenty of grunt. The NR1200 has done exactly what it was designed for - a living room hybrid music and TV/Movies controller. Music in our living room is via an AppleTV, with the TV running. We didn't want to overload the living room with subs and 5+ speakers. We wanted a room that looked beautiful and sounded great, while allowing the family to utilise the TV for shows, movies and gaming. The NR1200 controls it all with aplomb. Highly recommended. PS - as for the 'coloured' sound Andrew speaks of. It's certainly got that 'Marantz' smoothness to it, in a similar way to how my Marantz 8805 process does in the theatre. But I wouldn't say it's over pronounced. I believe this is the tonal character people refer to when they say 'Marantz is better for music than Yamaha' - there's just a slight smoothness, airiness and weight to the sound that every so gently removes any potential harshness that could lead to fatigue. I'm not sure whether Marantz actively use DSP to notch certain frequencies, or whether it's purely a side-affect of the components they use - either way it sounds nice to the ear.
Hello, I own the Bowers & Wilkins 603 S2, and you said that is a perfect match. I am considering to buy the Marantz NR1200, but my music is blues and rock. Would it be ok? Thanks
@@danbasic I am always of the belief that audio is audio, and the genre of music probably doesn't matter too much as long as there's adequate power to drive the speakers with headroom for the volume level you like to listen at. I think you would be very happy.
Excellent video Andrew! I have an NR1200 for three weeks now. It should be noted I am used to the "Denon" sound - including a test system with 1-AVR-3700H which I had connected to a 2-Emotiva Amp A3 then 3-Definitive Technology 9060 speakers. With this 1-2-3 combination I really enjoyed the sound, depth, clarity and presence of all types of music and movies. For a new room I am building, I was looking for a 2-channel Pre-Amp and the NR1200 checked all the boxes on paper. So I switched the Denon AVR-X3700H in this trio with the 1-Marantz NR1200 connected to the 2-Emotiva Amp and 3-BP9060 speakers in the distance and angles in open air to match the original setup...The sound after changing the Denon with NR1200 Amp, the sound was clearly transformed from a medley of beautiful sound into "oily, heavy buttery" sound. In my opinion, this NR1200 is a great entry-level Marantz-sounding Amp. When I say Marantz-sounding it appears as though there is a specific "flavor" to the sound that is really up to the listener. IMO it's not for me. My first impressions were that most of the liveliness of the sound (i.e. feels like around 1K and several areas in the higher frequencies are missing. For example the high-frequencies of the hi-hat on drums, certain vocal ranges and fine higher-frequencies are simply missing from the source). I know the speakers produce so much more range and depth of sound but even with the amp boosting the power at low volumes, I have a hard time listening to music I am familiar with without accepting there is so much sound removed from the source. The NR1200 can produce allot of volume but it is just loud and muddy. Even pushing the volume up doesn't present the sounds that are missing at lower volumes (and yes I played with the D-MAX settings, base and treble (STEREO mode), switching to PURE and PURE DIRECT also had those same mid-high frequencies missing (Dance, Techno, Rock, Smooth Jazz, R&B and meditation music). This NR1200 does sound pretty sweet to symphony music though... My testing of sound with the NR1200 was using Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay2 and Google Chromecast (via HDMI source "Media Player" position 4) . I listened to a variety of musing streaming using Spotify, Amazon Music and Pandora from an iPhone 12 and Samsung S10e. The sound using the Chromecast was much clearer with way superior buffering - even from the iPhone 12! But even with the Chromecast bringing clearer source sound, the NR1200 has been tuned to have that smooth, buttery sound kind of ruining the experience for my ears. Maybe with smaller speakers it would be more balanced but for my BP9060 speakers it sounds too rich, flat and buttery-base. I am returning the NR1200 to Best Buy simply because I want more features and get that Denon "sound" I have learned to love. I will be upgrading the AVR-3700H with the AVR-X4700H (Best Buy sold out so buying from Denon direct), and replacing the NR1200 with the AVR-3700H for my new room. I will be so fun! Great video - very concise. It's not easy to describe sound coming from different components. This video helped me so much thank you!!
Just bought one based a lot on Andrew's review. I couldn't be more pleased. Easy to configure and set up. Worked like it should from the get go. And it sounds great through my Klipsch RP-500 speakers. After figuring out how to do the video pass-through on a Samsung TV, I did a "test" by watching Saving Private Ryan (DVD) and was impressed with the overall dynamics and presence. Will likely get a subwoofer down the road to 'enhance those low frequencies and make them more pronounced than can be reasonably expected from the RP-500s. But that's a personal thing and doesn't degrade from the overall sound spectrum put out by the NR-1200. And playing music via CDs, I sometimes will up the treble by a dB or two to make the cymbals and vocals shine a little more. But again, that's a personal thing ... your mileage may differ. All in all, very pleased with the NR-1200. As for the initial 'click-pop' Andrew mentioned when turning on the unit, it doesn't sound any worse than my 1970s Pioneer SX-737 and I'm not bothered by it. Whatever. Cheers!
Thanks Andrew! Picked one of these up last week and have been thoroughly enjoying it driving some vintage Spica TC-50's (4ohm!) and a Definitive Technology SuperCube 4000 sub. Your review of the sound was spot on. Loving it. Thank you!
I'd love to know the opinions of others when comparing this marantz to the Denon DRA-800H Stereo Network Receiver? I believe I would go with the Denon DRA-800H, if I had to choose.
Hi Andrew :) Thank you so much for your very high quality reviews - I really enjoy watching them and they have been very helpful. I need a little help here with a few amps that you reviewed - Marantz NR1200, Rotel A11 Tribute and AudioLab A6000. I would like to ask you - in terms of sheer audio quality, which one would you choose? I myself have a very old Rotel ra-01 amp and I love it's lively, spacious, dynamic, detailed and enjoyable sound. I bought a pair of Elac DFR 52 Reference speakers and I am searching for a relatively budget or mid range (price wise) amplifier that would give me the best neutral and detailed, but still lively and exciting sound for the money. Out of those three (or if you have experience with the Rotel A12 or A14), which one would you prefer to listen to? Thank you very much for your help in advance! Best wishes, Petar
D'oh! Seems great! I was looking for this exact product about a year ago, and it didn't exist (lower quality alternatives may have)...and I have a far less elegant solution, and though I'm not ready to sell my stuff and buy this, it's ideal for what I was wanting to do. Getting a new turntable triggered the search. I was going to use an integrated and an HDMI switcher with an optical audio output, but it wouldn't have reduced the number of boxes or the complexity.... Wanted quality 2-channel, plus video switching. I envy those who get this!
Sorry, can you then explain why receivers need to be 4K ready? there is no image? I don't get why you cannot just get optical/coaxial from the TV and play music. Why does the receiver need to sync with the resolution with the TV?
@@oscarjung5405looking devices to the TV and then the TV to the surround sound system will not use the work because it will not pass the digital surround sound audio through the TV you have to hook the devices up to the surround sound system if you would like to hook the video cables to the TV and then the audio cables to surround sound you can do that but they must be digital if it's a digital source a lot of people do this and realize they're listening to analog surround sound because their devices are not connected properly The only type of TV that should be connected to this is a smart TV and it still may not even pass through other sources other than its own apps
I’m considering this unit or the Marantz NR1510 in my system, which is currently powered by a Denon AVR-888, which is about 10 years old. I only do 3.1 (no surround speakers) but could easily live with stereo plus the sub. I recently bought the new Apple TV 4K and I cannot the sound from apps processed through the receiver. I’ve tried several configurations, and I simply may not have hit the right combination. But I think just swapping the receiver for the Marantz 1200 might save time, frustration and space, plus be a sonic upgrade. My only concern is whether eARC, which the NR1200 does not have but the 1510 does have would be helpful or even required with a 4K UHD TV.
Recently got a DRA 800H, in conjunction with Polk s60e towers and a SVS PB1000 sub for my perfect 2.1 system. I have been blown away with the DRA 800H. Its so user friendly and the 4k works great with LG 4k Smart TV especially using just the TV remote. Not and Audiophile but appreciate functionality and music and all round watching movies and series with great involving sound. From this view point its been perfect for my needs.
I have had this 1200 about a month , and you are exactly right about the sound . It is somewhere, but not there where i would it like be . Behind the wall yes ! Well, it is smooth .
Excellent review Andrew!Well this is a surprise,a marantz amp that it is not bright sounding.I have audit in 2018 the PM 6006 with 3 set of speakers (for 2 hours),paradigm titan monitor v6 and Dali zensor 3 and 5 and the sound was bright and totally fatiguing for my taste.Marantz PM series house sound is lively/ bright upper mids and highs and very light bass. That's why i bought the Yamaha A-S 701.I love "dark" sounding amps (normal sounding for me) and speakers because you can listen to music for hours with no fatigue. What about Yamaha r-n803d vs Marantz nr1200 (same price in my country).I also prefer 2.1 home theater set up.
Regarding the discussion of the NR1200's richer darker signature and system matching. I kept looking over Andrew's shoulder at the JBL L100's and their 12" woofers. On speakers with 5" - 6" woofers more typical of 2019 almost 2020 my guess is that sonic signature will be less of an issue and actually a plus.
I assembled a simple living room system for casual music and movies. I needed HDMI switching but no need for surround channels. The 1200 fit the bill and is even doing a good job driving my KEF LS-50 Metas. Got a REL T-5x to round things out and a Bluesound Node for music duties
Thank you so much for your helpful review. I purchased this model after seeing your review and everything you said is spot on, the amp took the sharp brightness away I was experiencing with my B&W speakers and made for a richer warmer sound and still kept all the details & having Phono input fantastic for the Turntable. Also, so true about when you turn it off - the clunk? So glad you mentioned that (good to know that is normal)
@@RainbowCharade Nice, well the 707 S2 work nice with this Amp. They were too bright with the first Amp I brought but this NR1200 toned them down lovely. Good luck with your purchase :-)
For a unit making claims about streaming and wireless it came as a shock, after purchasing one, to find the bluetooth format is only A2DP and not Apt-X and also that there is quite a lot of lag. Watching streaming videos with the sound coming through the system I have not been able to solve this. There is an audio delay control - to add further lag. But not to take it away.
Hi Andrew. Thank you for this review! What speakers would pair well with this receiver? Can you provide a few examples in the $500-$1000 and $1000-$2000 ranges?
The Denon DRA 800H is a similar product with I guess 100WPC @8 ohms. I'd be very grateful if you could do a review on that one two. Maybe a comparison review if you could. Thanks.
I’m using my NR1200 as a 2.1 preamp in the same manner I am using a Parasound P6. The Marantz gives up nothing. Sony PS-4750/Shure V15V-MR connected to NR1200 sounds nuanced and full bodied. Airplay sounds spectacular. Overall, very nice. The sub out low pass filter is sufficient to get smooth bass integration.
Hi Andrew great videos- my uncle & aunt have a marantz stereo receiver with an RCA output lead going to anSpeakercraft BB1235 12 channel amp serving passive wired speakers in Conservatory, Swimming Pool, Dining Room, Kitchen, Study etc. About a month ago whilst they were away the Speakercraft system stopped working or rather as I discovered is very low audible output despite the channels being up full. Meanwhile the home theatre Marantz receiver is serving the Sitting Room speakers just fine. All the individual channel levels are up on the Speakercraft. How do I increase the signal volume going to the Speakercraft amp from the Marantz but keep the overall volume the same in the sitting room coming directly from the Marantz Amp/receiver? Also it be great to understand how the Marantz can have a signal source ( CD say) separated from the TV audio in the sitting room. Many thanks in advance Jonnie
Damn it, you sold me. I have had the SR4023 for forever and have loved it for going on what, 10 years now? I never considered myself a 2-channel enthusiast until hearing you say it but I'm definitely in line with that and you're right, the NR1200 checks all the boxes for my next home theater upgrade. I have some floor Cerwin Vegas that I've loved and will not replace and I do like the physical tone controls on the front whereas the 4023 didn't. That was an 80 watt per channel unit and only losing 5 watts per channel I don't think I'm going to miss much since it's already too loud as it is for my needs, tiny home theater.
Just in the process of looking for a receiver and was so happy to see this review. I am having difficult time to decide between the Marantz NR1200 and the Denon DRA-800H. I am more on the Marantz side for now as it has all the functions that I need and the size is a factor here too. For the speakers i have decided to go for the Q Acoustics 3020i also based on the Andrew's reviews on YT. What got me thinking is that Andrew mentioned in this video that Marantz is on the darker side and could be too much if the speakers are at the same side. I have read somewhere that the 3020i could be slightly on the darker side too. Not sure now if I should go with the Marantz or Denon if it comes to paring with the Q Acoustics 3020i. I have no chance to test this in the shop anywhere so was hoping that someone heard the setup and can help me to decide.
Hi Andrew. I have a question for you. Will this be a good match if not perfect to drive KEF LS50s? Im looking at putting together a system. Please advice.
I'm considering this Marantz unit here or the Denon DRA-800H Stereo Network Receiver. Based on everything I'm looking for, I'm definitely leading toward the Denon. One thing that may make me reconsider is that I'm driving some Klipsch towers that are very forward and bright sounding. Driving those with this Marantz May actually produce a more desired sound quality as opposed to this Denon I'm looking at which from what I understand tends to be a more bright punching forward sounding unit of its coloration. If I drive my Klipsch floor standers with the Denon product I'm leaning towards, that may result in a less desirable sound quality as compared to the Marantz? Granted, both respective models have their own ways about adjusting tone controls and that may be something that can offset the undesirable sound quality of the speaker/preamp & amp synergy and adjust it to where you like and would make this a moot point, but my experience with trying to do that is only something that can go but so far and it's natural coloring still has an overall presence and still has an overall synergy with the speakers it's driving. Unless I actually hear both with the same setup I have I'm never going to really know.
How does this fair against the CXA81 and I saw your review on the 81 but you only mentioned versatility, I would like to now how’s the sound quality comparison? Thank you, great review.
Question. Because the NR1200 has 4K HDMI connections (with having to ‘reduce’ surround to 2 channel), does this receiver has to have licensing in order to have these? I was told that the full blown home theater receivers have to have licensing to use the surround modes and visual modes, connections, etc.
I just set up a new Onkyo receiver, it has a button right above the power button that says “pure sound”. After going through the complete set up I put on some music and pushed that button I was blown away by the pure soundstage in front of me. I haven’t had a home theater in over two years. We just now moved into our new house from our old one being destroyed by hurricane Harvey. It was almost like a whole new experience.
Please take it as genuine. I am very happy to hear that you are happy with your Onkyo, but am sorry to hear of your loss stemming from Harvey. Hope all is well!
I wish Marantz made a stereo slimline AV preamp, until then any slimline marantz NR1xxx receiver will do, although i found out that two of my favorite Marantz features - MDAX2 for low quality audio and Audyssey are missing on this NR1200 device, but are available on NR15xx, NR16xx, NR17xx
I have also more/less gone MC back to stereo. I had been using an Oppo 105D as the processor, but started having problems with it. So I picked up the Marantz sr6013. But I do have a Parasound P7 pre-amp/A21 combo for stereo. And the majority of the time, I'm only using the Parasound gear for TV sound or movies...the stereo system images so well, the surround not playing is never a negative thing.
Hi Andrew Ik have a Marantz sr5005 for some years. I've connected a Project phonoboxS and a AT120 turntable. 2 wharfedale coleridge I bought 25 year ago. I also connected the TV and play the sound on the speakers. So I don't use much of the possibilities of the sr5005. Would the NR1200 give a better result? Question2 Should I upgrade the cartridge AT95E for a ortogon 2M Red of Blue for improved sound?
I’m running a McIntosh Mac 4300V with an external HDMI switch with analog audio out. This NR1200 is basically a modern version of my current setup and it’s very tempting since it costs about half of what my McIntosh is worth currently. But will I miss the McIntosh? 🤔
Great to see you man! I am 2 channel home theater also. Man this is a great looking unit. I have a smaller viewing room, so 2 channel works well for me. I use my system for music more anyway. I am also somewhat of a Marantz freak! Love the subwoofer , and L/R pre-outs. Love that it has HDMI! I love the price tag also.
It’s a really nice piece. It may not be the sexiest out there in many respects, but it’s also NOT full of things you don’t need. I honestly think it’s the “perfect” component for 95% of enthusiasts -if they’re honest with themselves. Thank you for watching.
Even many soundbars around this price have auto-calibration. This is on some great sales right now while stocks last, and rewatching this now is giving me some ideas for matching with the Polk XT60s. Two channel seems neat. But isn't there any virtual enhancements? And how does it perform being on for most of the day every day?
How about changing the Cartridge? Turn tables are only passive type pieces of equipment, wire and a motor. Belt or direct drive. That power pop is maybe a electrolyte cap going bad or is bad from the factory.
So does this decode multichannel audio to 2.1? If it does then it's what I've been looking for. I Don't need 5.1 or above, for me it's just waste of money and space to fill the room with speakers. I just want great sounding left and right speakers which produce good enough pfantom center and a sub which handles LFE track. That will give enough home theater experience for the price for my taste.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews thank you so much for the response. I think I will still go with the Marantz and 2 Jamo bookshelf n Jamo sub. Small living room space, and good price. I appreciate your insight and you’ve been a great resource!
I cannot decide between marantz nr1200 and rotel a14 which i both can geht for the same price, but not ne able to hear them before bying. Getting some sonus faber venere s in 2 weeks. For rotel i would look IP to get bluesound 2i which makes to package double as expensive as The marantz... Any thought for me, helping making a decision?
I cannot comment on the Rotel as I have not heard it (or another Rotel product in years). Sorry. The Marantz is good, though Sonus Faber speakers do like a fair amount of power, so the more amp you can likely afford the better.
Is this unit actually any good regarding phono or Bluetooth/Spotify streaming? Not really bothered about the video elements.. I'm thinking this for its overall features, or the Cambridge axr100 or Rotel a11 tribute? Would you say the sound on this is good enough or is there a definite sonic difference compared to the Cambridge or rotel, my only concern with the Cambridge being the BT is only sbc.... advice would be much appreciated
Hi, a bit of advice if I could? I've seen this on offer for £300, how would this compare to Cambridge Axr100 (refurb £250), and Rotel A11 tribute (refurb £300)? I'll be using mainly BT, cd and occasionally phono. I was thinking the Cambridge as I'll use BT, but see that's only sbc. Any advice appreciated. Ooh, I'll be running Paradigm monitor 5 floorstanders.. they're 15-100w so assume all 3 would run them comfortably? Thanks
Hi, Andrew! Hoping you'd do a review of the NR1200's successor, the Stereo 70s, and maybe compare it head-to-head with its cheaper twin, the new Denon DRA-900H. Mostly curious about how different they sound thanks to differences in the amp sections. Thanks! Love the channel!
Rather, he can compare it with Fosi Audio class D cheap amp to compare if there is any material difference in paying 6 times for this amp compared to Fosi Audio BT pro. No?
I have a question. As I'm a 2.1 system enthusiast. Will that sistem be enough for movies? So shall i get integrated amplifier(denon pma-800ne) or an av receiver?
Hi Andrew, How does the marantz NR1200 compare with Cambridge Audio Axr100. I am thinking to buy one of the above with denon drh800 thrown into the mix!! My speakers mostly is going to be Bose 301V . I prefer music like dire straits, enya, ... but listen to a wide variety.
You have my choices,so which one you ending get for your listening? I have the Cambridge #1, Denon #2 and marantz #3 ,please let me know if you have any of these
Thanks for putting your review out there. I've been considering purchasing this item since August or so. Kept waiting for reviews to show up. Seems like in just the past two weeks, the reviews have started coming in, most are favorable. I have an older SR5009 in the living room and am connected up, but still prefer to listen mostly to music in 2 channel. Would be purchasing this for setup in a separate listening area. Not quite ready to pull the trigger yet on this, but soon. Thanks again
The bass is good, but at about 80, i get distortion and have to turn it down and it resets or something. Maybe I need an amp? I have Amazon hd music and it is better than a cd.
My pioneer stereo amplifier A-110 recently failed is the Sony STR-DH190 as good as my pioneer amp also would my tannoy E11 speakers run well with the Sony STR-DH190
With you on the two channel setup. I don't want a room full of speakers thanks. I have listened to several multi-speaker systems and, for me the extra cost, space requirements, setup , and visual impact of these systems is too much. Thanks for the review. Great vidoe.
Hi. I just bought this. How do you use Alexa? Do I need HEOS speakers? I have Alexa app and HEOS app on my phone. Before buying it, I just assumed you'd speak to the amp itself. Thanks.
Hi Andrew, a pleasant hello. I’m interested getting a marantz NR1200 and hooking it up to my Sony UBP-X800M2. I have Outlaw 5 channel amplifier too. How to set up this Marantz 1200 to both zones so I can play music in both rooms simultaneously? Thank you for your feedback and hoping you’ll get the chance to give me advice. Thanks
I feel the same regarding my needs. Loved the review, as usual!!! I only want to go with a two channel set up with a sub. I think the NR1200 is the way to go for me, but it seems you both liked the NR1711 better? I thought the two channel implementation and the higher power rating of the NR1200, for me, would be the winner. Your thoughts please and thank you!
Would four Polk RM1300 satellite speakers and a subwoofer work well with this receiver? My 5.1 Onkyo died and I want to go back to a two channel stereo, but I want to use the same speakers. I appreciate your feedback.
So I'm just looking for a stereo receiver that I can run my Marantz MM 7025 2 channel power amp through..... is this the only option..... can't seem to find a lot of options...... I'm running 4 speakers...... I want to run the klipsch 280 f through the amp and I have 2 bose 901...... what are the other options...... I like this receiver just not sure if there where better options
Hello, question about the pre-out. Will all the Marantz sound colorations and character be there if I connect the XTZ edge a2-300 to the pre-out? Will there also stay the individual settings for inputs (like tone, balance and initial volume) if pre-out is used? Thanks, Petr
Does the surround sound function help to focus center dialog for use with TV/Movies. This was always an annoyance in 2 channel set ups unless you were right in the sweet spot.
Thats a good detailed review , I bought the Marantz NR 1409 awhile back simply because it was basic cheap and i can turn off as many channels as i want and its not loaded with wifi/bt streamer the more audio you have in one box the more that gets robbed from one power supply and this adds rf inteference causing lower quality sound but for a budgef AVR that you can get for 100.00 bucks US its hard to beat and matches well with Sonys SSCS3 towers warm meets cool basically thanks again
Andrew - thinking of picking up some B&W 805 D3 speakers, and the dealers push me towards the Rotel 1592, but it retails for $2,500. I love the idea of getting the HEOS capability for streaming music, and feel like I could upgrade to an EMOTIVA Bass X-300 if I need more power, and still be WELL under the cost of the Rotel. The dealer said it would sound horrible but didn't have one to demo. What are your thoughts on the Marantz NR1200 for a 2-channel audio setup with the 805s? Would it work great, or should I stick with the recommendation and stick to Rotel? Thanks!
As a 2.1 system enthusiast. What are your thoughts on 2.2 system? Are the benefits worth the upgrade? I debated between Marantz nr1200 and chose Yamaha as2100. Thanks for the thought provoking videos.
I have a project espirit turntable and jbl speakers which are punchy. Looking to upgrade my receiver from a Sony dh190. Think that a richer receiver/amp might make everything richer and balanced? Also phono stage is the most is what I’ll be using in this setup. Any thoughts on a different integrated or receiver that might help me? Thank you loved the video.
Doan Trinh How did you connect both of the Crown XLS 1002s ? What is the purpose of two external amplifiers? I purchased the NR1200 after watching this review and am very very happy with this purchase. It does everything that I need to do like phono, HEOS, CD, cassette. I am looking at an external power amplifier and have watched Andrews review on the Crown XLS amplifiers. Should I go with one 1002 or an 1502? I am driving two subwoofers and a set of Paradigm Monitor 3 speakers. I appreciate any advice.
Can this receiver power 4ohm speakers well? I'm moving on from an NAD T747 surround receiver and would like to maintain that level of quality, but in a 2 channel configuration.
Hi Andrew, is Marantz NR1200 good to pair with Klipsch RP-600M? How’s the sound for the music? And how’s the ‘speeches’ on the movies? I am a beginner and I am planning to pair these both. Music source & movie source mainly Apple Music & Netflix/Disney+ through Apple TV 4K. Thanks.

★ *CORRECTION: I mistakenly wrote bi-amp, it should read, bi-wire.
Thx for clearing this up. Biwire i know what it is. Bi amp is not a term at all right?
No need to aplologize everyone makes mistakes.

Absolutely. Appreciate you watching and weighing in!
I have the PM6007 and it does the same. Pushing the on button makes a satisfying metallic click and then there's a thud when the speakers get powered and the blue indicator light(s) come on. I agree that it's incredibly satisfying and feels like a quality product rather than a cheap plasticky sound. 👍
Most Marantz receivers have that series "click" sound
Even back with 2002's SRR5300
I got my NR1200 to be stationed inside a cabin so the “click” tells me the receiver is on. So I like it
Why aren’t there any 3.1 channel receivers on the market? (Center, L, R, sub.)
You are so right. That is the sweet spot!
That’s exactly what I’m looking for.
C Adam I can do that with my Yamaha; not only does it have a sub out for L&R stereo, it has a separate sub out for the surround setup.
@@dam4274 I have an old Kenwood that can do 3 channel with or without a sub, it sounded awful that way, of course that may not apply to your set up
To be honest I have an Denon 800H, in conjunction with Polk s60e towers and a SVS PB1000 sub for my perfect 2.1 system. I have had the full 5.1 speaker with the S35 center and S10 Bookshelf's as well. Had them connected in 5.1 for a while then switched over to the DRA800 h and 2.1 and I actually prefer it like this. The Towers look way cleaner
without the center and I don't miss it.
How much was this amp when it came out?
Can you connect a graphic equalizer to the marantz nr1200 along with a subwoofer?
Can I use this first then send the signal to my amp then to my speakers?
I did the home theater thing in the 90s felt it was to complicated went back to two channel.
I can relate.
Sorry, can you then explain why receivers need to be 4K ready? there is no image? I don't get why you cannot just get optical/coaxial from the TV and play music. Why does the receiver need to sync with the resolution with the TV?

As close to the wall as those JBL's are I'm surprised they're even listenable.
I assembled a simple living room system for casual music and movies. I needed HDMI switching but no need for surround channels. The 1200 fit the bill and is even doing a good job driving my KEF LS-50 Metas. Got a REL T-5x to round things out and a Bluesound Node for music duties
Does the sub out permit selection of mains crossover or will they continue to get full frequency?
Thank you so much for your helpful review. I purchased this model after seeing your review and everything you said is spot on, the amp took the sharp brightness away I was experiencing with my B&W speakers and made for a richer warmer sound and still kept all the details & having Phono input fantastic for the Turntable. Also, so true about when you turn it off - the clunk? So glad you mentioned that (good to know that is normal)

Would this pair well and drive Monitor Audio Silver 300 / 500 7G ? or would it be underpowered ?
So if I had to soften up the character of a Cambridge Audio TT Alva turntable this would work best than Denon DRA-800H?
How does this fair against the CXA81 and I saw your review on the 81 but you only mentioned versatility, I would like to now how’s the sound quality comparison? Thank you, great review.
Question. Because the NR1200 has 4K HDMI connections (with having to ‘reduce’ surround to 2 channel), does this receiver has to have licensing in order to have these? I was told that the full blown home theater receivers have to have licensing to use the surround modes and visual modes, connections, etc.

Hi Andrew
Ik have a Marantz sr5005 for some years. I've connected a Project phonoboxS and a AT120 turntable. 2 wharfedale coleridge I bought 25 year ago. I also connected the TV and play the sound on the speakers.
So I don't use much of the possibilities of the sr5005.
Would the NR1200 give a better result?
Question2
Should I upgrade the cartridge AT95E for a ortogon 2M Red of Blue for improved sound?
Get it, you won't regret it - I adore mine I got today !! (I prefer 2 channel as I listen mostly to music too)
Is is possible to use notebook as a source for movie? How to connect notebook, marantz and external monitor together?
Even many soundbars around this price have auto-calibration. This is on some great sales right now while stocks last, and rewatching this now is giving me some ideas for matching with the Polk XT60s. Two channel seems neat. But isn't there any virtual enhancements?
And how does it perform being on for most of the day every day?
Thanks for the review, looking to grab one of these. Would the 75W per channel be enough to drive a pair of Heresy IVs?
Hersey speakers high sensitivity, over 95db should be able to make your ears bleed with 75 watts
How about changing the Cartridge? Turn tables are only passive type pieces of equipment, wire and a motor. Belt or direct drive.
That power pop is maybe a electrolyte cap going bad or is bad from the factory.
Who has the best DAC this or Denon DRA-800H
So does this decode multichannel audio to 2.1?
If it does then it's what I've been looking for.
I Don't need 5.1 or above, for me it's just waste of money and space to fill the room with speakers. I just want great sounding left and right speakers which produce good enough pfantom center and a sub which handles LFE track. That will give enough home theater experience for the price for my taste.
Pardon the ignorance, but can the Jamo center also be connected ( w/ 803s n sub)?
Not to the NR1200, which is stereo only.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews thank you so much for the response. I think I will still go with the Marantz and 2 Jamo bookshelf n Jamo sub. Small living room space, and good price. I appreciate your insight and you’ve been a great resource!
How Can add Zone 2 speakers ? Do i need external Amp to power them up? please help Thanks.
Great question
Rather, he can compare it with Fosi Audio class D cheap amp to compare if there is any material difference in paying 6 times for this amp compared to Fosi Audio BT pro. No?
Does this single unit Marntz NR1200 makes great audio experience or need additional DAC or powe amp. Pl reply
Can i pair these nr1200 with a monitor audio bronze 1 wired and 2 speakers heos 1 with the heos app?
I just ordered this and matching them up to cerwin Vega sl15. My first system in 15 years. Can’t wait.
I like those Cerwins 15’s! How’s the Marantz holding up pushing those big 15’s? Worth it? How’s the bass?!
Thank you for watching!!!
Thanks
Can it work with my dali iberon 3 and B&W subfoower for nusica and tv?
I've been eyeing this receiver for awhile. Got about half way through this video and orderded one today. I will using a Schitt Mani for my turntable.
Hi Andrew, if I have a Technics turntable and the Technics SUG-700 amplifier, do I still need the Marantz NR1200 Receiver? Thanks for your advice.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!
Would four Polk RM1300 satellite speakers and a subwoofer work well with this receiver? My 5.1 Onkyo died and I want to go back to a two channel stereo, but I want to use the same speakers. I appreciate your feedback.
Hi. What it is your opinion to combine me 1200 with pair of Focal Chora 806?
Great review !!
This system checks a lot of boxes for me, seriously considering one.
Any recommendations for a good turntable match?
Hi..what is the best choice and better speaker for this av receiver... thank you
Any thought on this for a first generation Klipsch Fortes? Enough power?
Does the surround sound function help to focus center dialog for use with TV/Movies. This was always an annoyance in 2 channel set ups unless you were right in the sweet spot.
Hello Andrew, your microphone sounds incredible ! May i ask which mic you are using ?
Thats a good detailed review , I bought the Marantz NR 1409 awhile back simply because it was basic cheap and i can turn off as many channels as i want and its not loaded with wifi/bt streamer the more audio you have in one box the more that gets robbed from one power supply and this adds rf inteference causing lower quality sound but for a budgef AVR that you can get for 100.00 bucks US its hard to beat and matches well with Sonys SSCS3 towers warm meets cool basically thanks again
Can I use thenr1200 as a preamp only to drive additional amps? If so, does the nr1200 require any speaker connections or loading?
Thanks!
Marantz PM7000N is a better pairing with the B & W speakers. It's a much more beefy amplifier. You won't need more power unless you want to go deaf.
Is it better then Marantz pm6006?
How does it compare in terms of sound with your vintage pioneer receiver?
As a 2.1 system enthusiast. What are your thoughts on 2.2 system? Are the benefits worth the upgrade? I debated between Marantz nr1200 and chose Yamaha as2100. Thanks for the thought provoking videos.
The option for a 2nd sub is good, but make sure the first one is set up properly first.
Does the display show track-title, playtime etc. when playing a mp3 flac or something from my NAS?
I have a project espirit turntable and jbl speakers which are punchy. Looking to upgrade my receiver from a Sony dh190. Think that a richer receiver/amp might make everything richer and balanced? Also phono stage is the most is what I’ll be using in this setup. Any thoughts on a different integrated or receiver that might help me? Thank you loved the video.
Can an analog tape recorder be hooked up to the Marantz?
My NR1200 doesn't have a thump-crack on startup; only a single sound of a relay engaging - not through the speakers, but on the unit itself.
Yep perfect description, I like it.
Three: thump, click, and click for Airplay function from a standby power condition.
Marantz NR1200 plus two Crown XLS 1002 amps... pretty killer.
I own the Arcam AVR2500 two channel but I'm wondering if I'm missing something. I just bought a small subwoofer which might help.
Thanks.
