I'm trying to figure out how this is better than the Cinema 70S, which can be had for $250 less. It really feels like the 2-channel tax. Edit: The more I look at it, the worse it gets. It doesn't have discrete subwoofer outputs and doesn't even have an active crossover. The Cinema 70S has an active crossover, but sadly not independent sub outs. Why would they not include these features? Massive miss.
The Marantz Cinema 70s is $1,200 and the Stereo is cheaper at $1,000. So you will save $200 with the stereo version. We do wish it had independent sub outs.
@@AudioAdvice The Cinema 70S is available on Accessories4Less for $750 with a 5 year warranty. Missing an active crossover is an instant deal breaker and provides no reason for us to wait for the price to drop on this unit. Heck, even the Cinema 60 is on sale for $900 right now, and the AVR-X3800H is factory refurbished with a 3 year warranty for $1200. It has 4 sub outs with (is it 2 or all 4 of) them being discrete.
Confusing as to why they wouldn’t make the 2 subwoofers in a discreet format for this price. Anyone who is running two subs is a little above a novice and will cause them to pass this unit by where they would have probably bought it.
I disagree. I have 2 subs in stereo myself, and would never look at something of this level anyway. Unless it was for a gift maybe. This is a $1k do it all. It’s a receiver. It’s not high end at all. There’s two types of people who have more than one sub IME. And it’s 2 channel guys like myself that are really into it, or it’s bass heads/home theater guys that aren’t really into SQ like myself. And I seriously doubt they’re going to care as this is how almost every type of product in this price/performance category does the sub control. And stereo vs mono subs isn’t a huge difference in SQ anyway. This isn’t designed, priced, nor marketed for high end 2 channel guys. It’s designed for the type of listener that was described in this video, and I doubt most will even care.
@@amb3cog This is where you're wrong. There's a nearly 200-page thread on AudioScienceReview discussing stereo amplifiers with active and adjustable bass management, for $1000 or under. I was so excited to see this video pop up, because I thought I had finally found the perfect product that fits those requirements. Unfortunately, the amplifier has neither discrete subwoofer outputs nor active bass management. It doesn't even have a crossover or high pass filter. Massive miss for Marantz. They could have cornered the market with just those two features. The Cinema 70S has a crossover and three more channels, along with a host of other features that are missing from this device, for only $200 more. And it can be had for $750 already, factory refurbished. There's no reason to get this amplifier over the Cinema 70S, in my opinion. People that want a two-channel setup will likely want an active crossover, and a good chunk of them will also want discrete subwoofer outputs. I have two subs in my living room, two subs at my desk, and wanted to add a second sub to the bedroom setup. This would have been perfect, but guess I'll have to wait until they improve.
@@amb3cogDismissing a product simply on price says a lot! I also am running 2 subs thru a Denon 800H. More than I wanted to spend, certainly not high end, but the dual sub output with crossover control sold me on it. BTW, in your opinion, can any receiver be high end?
Be no good for movies as its only PCM sound 2ch with no Digital Decoders like Dts, Dolby Digital, so you won't get LFE channel, Bass effects in movie soundtracks from Subwoofer
Blah looking main faceplate and knobs! Overpriced for a stereo unit! Too bad they couldn't have incorporated the original flywheel somehow, for a retro look!😮
I don't care for the faceplates and aesthetics of the Marantzes, either, and I used to buy their CD changers - in fact, I'm still using a CC4001. The matte faceplates and knobs of the new models just don't do it for me; I prefer shiny brushed aluminum faces and volume knobs. I'll probably be looking at a Denon AVR to replace my old Onkyo that's giving me issues now.

While I may not have the Gold Marantz badge I do have Silver ones matching my AVR and Amps silver feet, which also goes along nicely with the Paradigm Prestige's silver drivers.
Yea yea, I do still have upgradeitis but I like my little 5.1 set-up ✌
Nice setup! Thanks for watching and sharing 😁
SR7011 still going strong. 💪 I'll wait.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Hi, any opinions on how this compares to the Cambridge Audio AXR100, purely in terms of sound quality?
Chat or call with our experts at audioadvice.com and they can help you out!
Is this 3D compatible?
It should, but we have not tested it, however anything with HDMI 1.4 and higher is supposed to support 3D.
@@AudioAdviceThank you for the answer.
This new range have been available for many months in the UK.
There is no doubt that the sound is excellent but for me the lack of component input
and that tiny display and knobs are a bit of a turn off.
I will stick with my NR1711.
Thanks for sharing!
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST!!!
1000 usd
$1,000
@@AudioAdvice and when do you think this will be available to purchase? I’m ready now
Now! www.audioadvice.com/marantz-stereo-70s-75-watt-slim-stereo-receiver
11 months later… you can pick a re-certified unit from Marantz for $599. Denon & Marantz both have a 25% off sale right now.
For music lover… A low pass filter without a high pass filter is an unfortunate technical omission in an otherwise great looking and sounding piece of hifi equipment. Lack of Roon readiness is minus too.
It is a true subwoofer filter. Yes, Roon would be nice, but a few years of Roon costs as much as this guy. Thanks for watching
My personal opinion is that the NR1200 looks better.
Thanks for sharing, it is personal opinion
Oh come on, no high pass filter? 😢
It does have that, we called out how nice it is to see this in a two channel unit. Its in 10Hz steps over most of the range. Thanks for watching
@@AudioAdvice No, that’s the low pass filter? :)
It does both, it rolls the bass out of the mains, no data on the slope but likely 4th order@@o0divinity0o
@@AudioAdvice are you sure? It says low pass filter in the menu?
Yes, that is typical home theater receiver nomenclature, they all roll off the mains at the same frequency, some home theater receivers allow you to change the LFE in relation @@o0divinity0o
They missed a trick by not adding a Digital Tuner. AM/FM only tuner is getting a groan in my opinion...
Thanks for sharing. We would have liked to see that too.
@@AudioAdviceNo digital tuner but it has HEOS!
In a nutshell. Marantz cut the surrounds channels, changed the faceplate and doubled the price
The stereo has 75 watts instead of the 50 watts from the cinema
It also utilizes the HDAM chip that is found in the Cinema 40.
I can't get beyond the number of complaints about this model as seen on Amazon. ☹
Are you looking at the STEREO 70s or CINEMA 70s?
@@AudioAdvice What is the model identifier from Marantz, rather than marketing name?
The reviews are tied to NR1200 for some reason. This model only came out in September
Confusing as to why they wouldn’t make the 2 subwoofers in a discreet format for this price. Anyone who is running two subs is a little above a novice and will cause them to pass this unit by where they would have probably bought it.
That's a good question. We would have liked to see that feature too.
BTW, in your opinion, can any receiver be high end?
not silver face with incandescent bulb and not vu meter= non 70s
Fair enough!

I personally have never liked the sound of Marantz nor Yamaha for that matter.
It isn't for everyone!
Be no good for movies as its only PCM sound 2ch with no Digital Decoders like Dts, Dolby Digital, so you won't get LFE channel, Bass effects in movie soundtracks from Subwoofer
If your setup is only two channel then it'll be fine for movies. But yes, it will not be for surround sound.
Blah looking main faceplate and knobs! Overpriced for a stereo unit! Too bad they couldn't have incorporated the original flywheel somehow, for a retro look!😮
It seems they are transitioning to this look for all their new products. Thanks for watching!
Maranz, the most disappointing piece of audio equipment ever purchased. Did not live up to ratings nor did it last long, a door stop in a garage.
Sorry you had trouble with yours. We have found their service to be good. If you purchased yours from Audio Advice, we would be happy to help you resolve your issue.
Every merican review starts with Sol Morantz and his humble bla! Bla! I just stop, leave a thumbs down, and move on..🤦🏾♂️
