Great info, but I just want to point out that the zhukovs aren’t BAD. Depending on what kind of role you want to fulfill it also has its own use cases. Although I agree that it leans towards deleting swarms rather than picking off hvt’s it can synergize well with other weapons that are already good at taking down stationaries and ranged bugs. Here are my suggestions: - Gas recycling zhukovs pair well with AISE for taking down shellbacks and praetorians - embedded detonators and base m1000 for a more flexible role (crowd control and good single target dps) - Cryo Minelets and Bullets of Mercy gk2 for an elemental build
Embedded detonators is a must have for industrial sabotage. It deal tons of damage to Caretaker's eye while zhukovs's speed boost mod help you dodge its attack.
One thing I think you should've mentioned is that Scout is easily the class that cares the least about ammo economy, not because of the way he fights, or because of "muh DPS", but because of the Flare Gun. Flares are important. They let you see minerals, bugs, and the surrounding terrain, and is *_THE_* most important tool a dwarf can have, and I'll argue that "wasting" a resupply by taking it while your ammo's above 50% is worth it if it means getting Flares to shoot again. And trying to maximize resupply efficiency without the lighting from the Flare will likely get you killed. So while specing into ammo isn't bad if you're aim is bad or trigger happy, it's a lot more wasted on Scout since your resupplies are likely tied to your flare gun more than your weapons. I certainly felt it since I'm that guy, that can't aim and dumps my ammo into the nearest group of bugs, and I've found myself on many occations where I can really do with some Flares but I still have an overabundance of weapon ammo. I certainly don't feel this wanting from Engi and Gunner, and while I haven't really touch Driller yet(partly because I find it funny not to), I can tell that Drill Fuel isn't really that big of an issue for them. tl;dr Scout don't care about ammo mods as much as other classes due to their nature of not really being a fighting class, and resupplies are more based around your Flare gun than your weapons. This isn't to say "Ammo=bad" on Scout, moreso you need to consider how quickly you go through Flares alongside your normal considerations of "Ammo vs Damage vs Everything else".
Also one more thing, balance animation canceling with the risk of Carpal Tunnel. If your wrist starts to hurt, stop animation canceling. Heck, stop gaming so hard. A few wins now isn't worth the risk of pain and medical bills down the line. I certainly did, after a particaully serious month of DRG Gaming, I felt pain on my wrist and decided to chill out a bit. You don't have to listen to me, of course, but you'll only have yourself to blame if you get Carpal Tunnel.
it does depend on what type of driller playstyle you are using and what mission it is but typically yes, drill fuel is normally a low worry in the drillers ammo economy, and im going to add this because i still find it shocking how it isnt talked about much but drillers drills are really good for shields, they can stop spitballer and septic balls from damaging you and the stun they can apply can be really useful if you find yourself surrounded, also they one the quickest ways to kill a Rockpox infected enemy because they can hit multiple of the weak points on the bug even if its on the other side of em
Honestly the flare gun is what makes me feel so spoiled and hesitant to try out the other three classes. I can't imagine NOT being a Scout ever because the flare gun feels so necessary to complete a mission
For me it’s the mobility. Every other class feels so slow in comparison. You can benefit even if someone else is using the flare gun. You can’t move fast just because the scout does
i am an engi main but trying scout for hundreds of hours now and i cant seem to let it go because of its mobility like its grappling hook, that shotgun movement overclock, etc.
lot's of valueble knowledge was contributed here. However, what i realy waited for the whole video long was to sensetive players about the importance of learning when NOT to shoot. During a swarm there are lots of times when just watching and keeping the eyes open for HVT to take them out asap is a lot more valueable to the team, then scout distracting himself by shooting at grunts or swarmers, which all other classes can take out more ammo efficient anyway.
This is one of the few good guides I have found regarding DRG content. So many times I stumbled upon superficial guides that lack in depth strategies and tips that are highly valuable for newer players to learn. You on the other hand do not shy away from these things at all. Keep up the good work mate! Rock and Stone!
i saw a comment saying scout was the most useless class in the game and that just dont make sense because no class is useless but other classes can do their roles, for example a driller and a gunner can do the same job: taking aggro, clearing swarms etc, every class can do the same stuff, however they all can do different stuff that isnt needed but is always useful, engis platforms, drillers drills and scouts light for example, and going by that comment, i would say its the complete opposite, a good scout is the most useful class in the game because he is faster, which means hes more efficient, which means he is literally better then the other classes, furthermore scouts grapple is the only thing in the whole game which doesnt need ammo, which means that when shit really hits the fan, he has the best chance of survival and for the record i dont like playing scout because he doesnt have a flamethrower or other weapons which could cause a new Geneva Convention to be organised.
One thing I would like to add, remember guys, a scout can't AND shouldn't be doing everything. I get that they have the highest mobility in the game, but that doesn't mean that they are the ONLY dwarf with a pickaxe and a traversal tool- granted gunner's tool sucks. Do not ping EVERY ore vein to mine, the scout is not Bosco...

Really enjoyed this with all the strategic oversight for WHY one does these things, along with specific instruction, good practices, and ways to do the next thing that has to be done. It's surprisingly simple to dodge trijaws if you simply walk towards them. They fire in an arc which creates a very safe area under the projectile path. This guy though, he decided to yeet that easy method out the window and play bullet hell instead. 😂
If you press sprint after swinging a pickaxe you can sprint as long as you hold m2, also pickaxe canceling for regular mining is literally useless, animation canceling is only useful for pickaxing ebonuts, enemies, the mentioned powerswings and then speeding up reloads by like 20%.
Animation cancel for regular mining appears to be just very slightly faster than regular swings. Its not that much so I guess you might as well not bother with it. When there is a slowdown effect from hitting an enemy or an ebonut, the difference is massive. Dont know what youre trying to say about maintaining full sprint velocity while swinging your pickaxe? I tried it in sandbox and it slowed me down to walk speed. Maybe you have a mod installed that increases the base sprint speed for pickaxe swings.
@@Spurrrg I also didn't quite get what there leads to avoiding the slowdown effect when hitting smth with health, in your footage you can see it's 150 speed either way with or without animation cancel, the only diff is that you kill swarmers fast enough to take almost no hits. STE gets activated no matter what you press afterwards and it lasts for 1 full second. Thanks for the guide, love watching some precise moves/shots and overall you really did a good job avoiding technical mistakes.
@@Spurrrg maybe it has something to do with not being host and hitting pickaxe and sprint at the same time that allows you to sprint while holding m2. Or is it faster than walking but slower than normal sprint? The movement slow from hitting enemies and ebonuts is unavoidable tho. But I've definetly sprinted while holding m2 before, but when running past and hitting nitra or something you always have to jump anyway because you can't run sideways.
@@splitsentro I meant the slowed pickaxe animation. Should have clarified that. Animation cancel is IMO good to practice for regular mining too because it builds up a good habit so you dont end up missing cancels when hitting swarmers, since you are already familiar with the timing.

I play scout as more of a dps/support multiclass. I use my high mobility to grab minerals/objectives outside of other classes reach, pull the bugs away from my team, and keep myself alive to revive teammates (I run field medic on all my scout loadouts). I have almost a cycle checklist that I run through when I try to figure out what to do next: 1.) Is the cave lit up for teammates? 2.) Is there HVT's that need to be eliminated? 3.) Is there a swarm that needs to be kited away from teammates/objectives? 4.) Is there Nitra to build up resupplies? 5.) Is there objectives I can be collecting/helping with? 6.) (Last but most importantly) Is there Mushrooms/Gold Chunks/Bittergems/Goo Sacs to ping? These aren't specifically placed in order of importance, and they ultimately depend on the situation. There are other things that I think of as scout but most of them apply to all the classes so I wont list them all off. I also like to save one or two of my grenades to secure revives for teammates (pheromone grenades are my personal favorite but cryo and stunsweeper are good too if swarms aren't too big). In my opinion, special powder is one of, if not the best overclock in the game due to how much utility you can get out of it. I am a scout main through and through and I WILL take C4 to the face if it means I can zip around the caves and be the best supportive powerhouse I can for my fellow dwarves. R&S Brothers!
Huh... as someone who only just started playing about a week or two ago, who absolutely adores scout to be a support/medic, turns out i really wasn't doing too bad. There's a lot of this that i kind of just figured out and was already doing. Honestly my main problem is just playing too close to my team when i should be keeping more distance. Noted, now off to the mines again.
I think Scout has great ammo economy. Then again I use electrified reload and am a railgunner main on RoR2 so I'm accustomed to not missing my shots, a reload being all I need for that single bullet on every bug to kill them. Paired with reload speed, speed on kill, and less sandwiches to eat, I will almost never run out of ammo, even in H5+.
Hey that's a great guide! There were some little tricks most good players use but nobody talks about. Also nice to see you play modded, you definitely squeezed out almost every bit from vanilla haha.
Even more than long range gravity/grabber deaths, the lack of flare gun usage is the most annoying thing a bad Scout can do, IMO. I'm usually a leader (organizer) in team games so I like to have the info ready, and Scout lets me assess the situation immediately due to their high mobility and flares. Getting ahead of problems is the best way to ensure there aren't any, so it's really aggravating whenever I'm playing another role and the Scout(s) are all off bumbling around doing meme-jumps with Special Powder or trying to out-kill the gunner so often they neglect keeping the room lit until it becomes too inconvenient for THEM.
1750h greybeard here. I can confirm this guy knows what he is talking about. I also like to add following priority list on things to do while spelunking, for those Scouts and pretty much every class that joins a Haz 4 or higher games. Priority #1 Nitra up to 160 #2 Main objective/clearing a wave #3 Nitra again #4 Gold Chunks/Fungus/Goo sack/ Gurken shuck and Maggot pinging #5 Secondary objective, minerals and Events (if everyone is on bord) #6 Looking for every last Crumb of Nitra #7 Spamm calling Molly or when she is not on the mission, complaining that she isn't here. #8 mining Gold or hitting useless crystals
Most likely because it really falls off the more bugs there are and just higher difficulty. I do like it and it is a nice and comftable auto-aim stun, but as you can see in the video, the boomerang won't do much when 20 trijaws appear, it is relatively slow in affecting enemies compared to the Cryo Nade and yeah it does damage, however, the Cryo Insta kills flyers and, if you can aim (not me), big groups of swarmers, but also amplifying a Gunner or Engi's damage with the IFG will end up with much more damage over all, maybe even to more enemies, and pheromones are... well, pheromones. I still occasionally use the boomerangs on lower difficulties (haz 4-5 for me, never run them on hax 5+) but anything above that needs more oomph
GK is not bad. It's pretty much a jack-of-all-trades situation when the base stats are good enough, but it's potential is far behind the other two main weapons. Can't say anything about Zhukovs though. I just haven't really used them that much, lol
Thanks so much for making this video! A lot of really good information here that I'll be working to use in my gameplay. My only question would be what M1k build you recommend, as I've been experimenting a lot with different builds and I can't quite find one that gels with me. im not specially good as scout, and i dont play in high dificulties is ok for me to take the grav boots for dont take fall damage and make my way to grab minerals? or should i learn to dont use it
It’s too slow when compared to the grenades. You have to wait for the boomerang to hit and electrocute every single enemy. And why do that when you can electrocute a whole swarm instantly with slow grenades?
i have the flare smoke mod on to help me know if im doing a good job as scout lighting things up. if i see some flare smoke, its an immidiate sign that i forgor and need to light up again
depends, with boo stick, you could take Siri reload in tier 5, but unless your running jumbo shells as it slows down reload, you can remove both ready. same can be said for the crossbow the triple bolt oc. i personally always have it on for the boom stick, zukove, m1000, gk2. its removed when I'm using both drak and crossbow

Scout: "Aw damn, I dropped my keys somewhere on the floor and now I've gotta look for em."
Also Scout: 9:27
I think Scout has great ammo economy. Then again I use electrified reload and am a railgunner main on RoR2 so I'm accustomed to not missing my shots, a reload being all I need for that single bullet on every bug to kill them. Paired with reload speed, speed on kill, and less sandwiches to eat, I will almost never run out of ammo, even in H5+.
Hey that's a great guide! There were some little tricks most good players use but nobody talks about. Also nice to see you play modded, you definitely squeezed out almost every bit from vanilla haha.
Also, hitting enemies with the pick has a lot more animation lag, so canceling for those is much more valuable.
16:27 EXACTLY why I like the boomstick
Holy shit this was so usefull to watch, thx for sharing mate! Cool to see dark syph as well in your games, he joined me last week as well :) haha
flare gun does damage meaning it can break gunk seeds
19:05 yer just gonna casually matrix tf out of those trijaws, huh
So interested to look your mod list (Low Quality mobs and etc.)
I feel as though watching this video made me want to wear all blue and grow a beard
ahhh yes. advanced tips on how to get as far away from my team as possible (they give me the ick)
1750h greybeard here. I can confirm this guy knows what he is talking about. I also like to add following priority list on things to do while spelunking, for those Scouts and pretty much every class that joins a Haz 4 or higher games.
Priority
#1 Nitra up to 160
#2 Main objective/clearing a wave
#3 Nitra again
#4 Gold Chunks/Fungus/Goo sack/ Gurken shuck and Maggot pinging
#5 Secondary objective, minerals and Events (if everyone is on bord)
#6 Looking for every last Crumb of Nitra
#7 Spamm calling Molly or when she is not on the mission, complaining that she isn't here.
#8 mining Gold or hitting useless crystals
Looks like poop smells like poop
Practical drg showed me who I really am.
nice video !
why didn't you talk about the boomerang?
Taking notes
You are a beautiful man
Me as an engi main watching So I know scout better to help better
Funny as hell to be told that the two weapons I use on scout are the worst. Oops! No wonder my firepower feels nonexistent.
GK is not bad. It's pretty much a jack-of-all-trades situation when the base stats are good enough, but it's potential is far behind the other two main weapons.
Can't say anything about Zhukovs though. I just haven't really used them that much, lol
Hell yeah!
Untelated, but I kinda enjoy how your accent intensifies later in the video lmao
I made a scout build that has practically infinite wave clear, I'm currently attempting to get over 25k kills on Haz5+ on PS5.
I cannot get enough of CT + double barrel
Thanks so much for making this video! A lot of really good information here that I'll be working to use in my gameplay. My only question would be what M1k build you recommend, as I've been experimenting a lot with different builds and I can't quite find one that gels with me.
Amazing guide and looking forward to more spowder highlights!
Did this guy get more Finnish as the video went on?
could you show us what kind of mods you are using? thank you, great video!!
Noooo, the Finns got him :(
How to master scout?
Easy
You throw C4 at him and press the funny red button as driller
Can you pls make guide about driller?
what too much special powder does to a mf
jk great video
how do you get your caves to look like that? also good guide man, well made
How did you do the fast pickup with the aquarq on 0:47?
Hey, would you mind sharing your graphic preset?
Yo! Can you show your mod list pls? Thanks in advance
Do you have any tips for newer scouts who arent as experienced besides just play the game
I don't do animation cancelling purely because I hate how it looks.
Nah, im too old for speedy scout gameplay, better stay with max promoted gunner, digger and nenginer 😂 only got 1 bronze promo for scunt to play DD and EDD
@@SK-cn1in Scunt is now in my vocalbulary. Thank you.
I swear most DRG players are disgruntled tf2 players who quit the game after meet your match.
Scunt is my middle name when I play Scout because I go quite far ahead of my team during missions ( And die from time to time )
I love nenginers!
based af
im not specially good as scout, and i dont play in high dificulties
is ok for me to take the grav boots for dont take fall damage and make my way to grab minerals? or should i learn to dont use it
Whats the mod that gives you your velocity? thanks
bro just completely skipped over boomerang. good vid anyway
Cause it sucks
It’s too slow when compared to the grenades. You have to wait for the boomerang to hit and electrocute every single enemy. And why do that when you can electrocute a whole swarm instantly with slow grenades?
What do you think about hipster. Also where are you from you have strange accent i dont mean anything bad im just curious
i have the flare smoke mod on to help me know if im doing a good job as scout lighting things up. if i see some flare smoke, its an immidiate sign that i forgor and need to light up again
What is this overheat meter around your sight?
Content for modded players! Woo!
Hey man what settings are you using to get so many fps?
Its mods that boost fps
"the flare gun is probably the most powerful support tool in the game" boy i know you didn't just put flares over satchels
good video by the way
what âbout hoverclock as part of the build, instead of something useful like drak or sctual damage on m1k
Yo vro what's your settings like mods and shi
How do i get the hud element where i can how close i am to overheating
is it good option "born ready" while having a drak? it doesnt reload, and the bomstick and croswbow reload almost after every shot, is it worth it?
depends, with boo stick, you could take Siri reload in tier 5, but unless your running jumbo shells as it slows down reload, you can remove both ready. same can be said for the crossbow the triple bolt oc.
i personally always have it on for the boom stick, zukove, m1000, gk2. its removed when I'm using both drak and crossbow
